B172: How to stop feeling like you're not enough all (guided visualization)

The Simplifiers Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 4, 2026 29:11

Time for a guided visualization exercise: how to stop feeling like you're not enough. Maybe you've felt it before. You finish one big project… Only to immediately start thinking about the next one. You reach the goal… But somehow, it still doesn't feel like enough.  Maybe you've spent years being the dependable one. The one everyone counts on. The one who quietly carries more than anyone realizes. Maybe you've even worn the label proudly... High Performer. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with ambition. There is nothing wrong with wanting to build meaningful things. To make a difference. To create. To leave the world a little better than you found it. Ambition is a beautiful thing. It helps us grow. It helps us serve others. It helps us become who we're capable of being. But somewhere along the way... Ambition quietly accepted a job it was never meant to have. Instead of simply helping you create… it began deciding whether you were worthy. Whether you'd done enough. Whether you'd become enough. And that's an impossible job. Because there will always be another goal. Another mountain to climb. Another finish line waiting just beyond the horizon. So today... I don't want to invite you to become less ambitious. I want to invite you into a new relationship with ambition. One where your work reflects your values... Instead of determining your value. One where you still create extraordinary things... But you no longer ask today's accomplishments to tell you who you are. Let's explore that together. And so… to kick off the month, today is another guided visualization episode, which we release on the first Tuesday of every month this season. So, how does it work? Simple! Let my voice be a guide for you as you focus inward to help you tap into your inner wisdom and Intuition for answers. Listen and participate in this guided visualization exercise: How to stop feeling like you're not enough. You can do this, I believe in you. It's time to SIMPLIFY. Legacy
A performance psychologist on confidence, resilience, and the identity work that outlasts the medal

Legacy

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 3, 2026 27:48

Paul sits down with Dr. Jim Taylor — performance psychologist, former U.S. Ski Team competitor, and founder of Prime Mind for a conversation that traces a career built on a single insight. The mind is the final frontier, and almost none of us know how to work it. Jim's origin story is disarmingly honest. He was a good ski racer with a bad head, the kind coaches used to call a head case. One summer psychology course in high school changed the trajectory of his athletic career, and eventually his entire life. He walks Paul through what actually changed that season (not the strength, not the technique, the internal architecture) and why he decided somewhere around age nineteen that psychology hadn't been a choice so much as a calling. The heart of the conversation is the mental work Jim now teaches. Confidence isn't a skill, it's a muscle. Visualization isn't a nice-to-have — the primitive mind can't tell the difference between an imagined rep and a real one, and Jim used that mechanism to rewire his own belief system on the way to an international-level career. Resilience is fundamentally a perception problem. And the "good road / bad road" fork, he says, is often not a conscious choice at all — which is why most people stay on the bad road even when they know exactly where it ends. The episode's emotional center is the weight vest metaphor. Jim describes what happens when an athlete steps into competition carrying twenty pounds of expectation, identity, and self-worth on their shoulders. He walks through Alyssa Liu's Olympic story as an example of what the release actually looks like, opens up about his recent decision to walk away from a startup he'd invested two years into, and unveils the app-based extension of his practice Prime Mind that he built in the two-and-a-half months since he left. It closes on a legacy answer that quietly matches Paul's own help people see themselves before they know how to see themselves.   Timestamps 00:00 — Welcome and introduction 00:30 — The head case origin story 02:00 — The summer course that changed everything 03:30 — The breakthrough season on the U.S. Ski Team 05:00 — Middlebury, Psych 101, and the calling 06:30 — Purpose and passion as a fill-in-the-blank question 08:00 — Why startup building feels riskier than skiing 09:30 — Network, credibility, and the ski racing runway 11:00 — Performance psychology beyond sport 12:30 — Confidence, self-talk, and mental imagery 14:00 — The primitive mind and positive reps 15:30 — Rewiring belief through visualization 17:00 — Resilience as a mental muscle 18:30 — The good road and the bad road 20:00 — Post-medal letdown and identity loss 21:30 — Athlete to performer identity shift 23:00 — Alyssa Liu and the weight vest release 25:00 — Toxic sports cultures 26:00 — Walking away from a two-year startup 28:00 — Building Prime Mind solo in ten weeks 30:00 — The B2C and B2B model 31:30 — Favorite client stories and the mind as final frontier 33:00 — Legacy as long game 34:00 — Where to find Dr. Jim and Prime Mind Episode Resources Discover how Dr. Jim Taylor helps athletes, executives, performers, and high-achievers of every kind take the weight vest off and access the mental muscles that make peak performance sustainable — through one-on-one work, keynote and workshop content, and his new app Prime Mind: www.drjimtaylor.com Legacy Podcast: For more information about the Legacy Podcast and its co-hosts, visit https://businesslegacypodcast.com Leave a Review: If you enjoyed the episode, leave a review and rating on your preferred podcast platform. 882 He Told Me Everything I Did, A Guided Christian Meditation on John 4:27-30 with the Recenter With Christ app The purpose of this podcast is to help you find more peace in  and connect with the true source of peace, Jesus Christ.  Outline: Relaxation, Reading, Meditation, Prayer, Contemplation and Visualization.  You can sit comfortably and uninterrupted for about 20 minutes. You should hopefully not be driving or anything tense or unrelaxing.  If you feel comfortable doing so, I invite you to close your eyes.   Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation:   Breathe and direct your thoughts to connecting with God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate,  deflate. Scripture for Meditation John 4 NIV 27 Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, "What do you want?" or "Why are you talking with her?" 28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 "Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?" 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him. NLT 27 Just then his disciples came back. They were shocked to find him talking to a woman, but none of them had the nerve to ask, "What do you want with her?" or "Why are you talking to her?" 28 The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, 29 "Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?" 30 So the people came streaming from the village to see him. Reflection on Scripture: This woman did not know about the cross or resurrection. She had an almost nonexistent Christology. She did not know exactly what the Messiah would do. It is pretty clear she didn't know Jesus was even the Savior, as that wasn't a common Jewish understanding of Messiah. The thing that makes this story so meaningful to me is what she does with the information she has. In John 9 Jesus tells the Pharisees would not be guilty if they were truly blind but they claimed to see. This woman was still blind in very important ways of understanding what Jesus would do for her, yet her approach to the truth, to Jesus as the way, was phenomenal. She believed and trusted Jesus. It can be valuable to look for the lessons in the scriptures that are for us also. Each one of us has more information than this woman. We have the advantage of having the full account of Jesus and his saving effort. We get to see stories of him in so many situations teaching. We hear his full message of love to many different situations. We have the stories of His miracles. We see the impact of the cross and the resurrection. And what do we do with that information? This woman had such limited information about Jesus, yet she invested herself in that message. The believed Jesus and attempted to share that. How blessed we are that we get to live in a time where Jesus is known across the globe. Certainly not be every person, but to billions of people. Sometimes I have thought that it would be amazing to live in the time of Jesus to get to see him, yet I think we are so blessed now to have a much deeper understanding of Jesus. The question that remains, what do we do with that knowledge? The most important knowledge of all? Many times we see  Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling patient for your own faults and trials. Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation and meditate and visualize positive change in your life: This is a listener funded podcast at patreon.com/christianmeditationpodcast Final Question: If you consider the invitation and command to persevere in the faith, what change in your life does that bring to your mind?  FIND ME ON: Download my free app: Recenter with Christ Website - ChristianMeditationPodcast.com Voicemail - (602) 888-3795 Email: jared@christianmeditationpodcast.com Apple Podcasts - Christian Meditation Podcast Facebook.com/christianmeditationpodcast Youtube.com/christianmeditaitonpodcast Twitter - @ChristianMedPod

Visualization gets sold in the fertility world wrapped in language about manifesting and the universe, which can turn a lot of women off and skips over what is actually happening in the body. In this episode, Michelle resets the conversation and grounds it in the research. She walks through a Cleveland Clinic study where mental training of a finger muscle alone produced a 35 percent strength increase, the 2006 Israeli study showing that hypnosis during embryo transfer doubled IVF pregnancy rates, and the Fanchin research linking uterine contraction frequency to implantation outcomes. The episode then teaches the distinction between external and internal imagery, the piece almost no fertility content explains, and offers a clearer, gentler way to use this tool that does not put the responsibility for conception on a woman's mental discipline. The Chinese medicine view of the heart, the shen, and the Bao Mai is woven throughout. KEY TAKEAWAYS In a 2004 Cleveland Clinic study, twelve weeks of mental finger training (no physical movement) increased finger strength by 35 percent, demonstrating that vivid imagery alone produces measurable change in the body through stronger cortical signaling to the muscle. A 2006 case-control study at Soroka Medical Center in Israel found that women who received clinical hypnosis during their IVF embryo transfer had a 53.1 percent clinical pregnancy rate compared to 30.2 percent in the control group, with implantation rates doubling from 14.4 to 28 percent. The likely mechanism behind the IVF hypnosis finding is uterine receptivity. Fanchin et al. (1998) showed that high-frequency uterine contractions at the time of embryo transfer reduce implantation by displacing the embryo. Imagery from a relaxed state quiets that activity. There are two kinds of visualization, and they are not equally effective. External imagery (seeing yourself from outside) produces weaker physiological response than internal imagery (feeling the experience from inside the body). Almost all fertility scripts teach the weaker version. Effective fertility visualization is short, frequent, done from a regulated state, and led by the felt sense rather than the picture. Two to five minutes a day, daily, will do more than thirty minutes done sporadically. To learn more about the Kairo app, visit their website here: https://kairoapp.co/ In this episode, Jon and Adam are joined by sports psychologist Jim Doorley to explore how visualization can improve both the mental and physical sides of golf. Jim explains why effective visualization is really a form of multisensory mental rehearsal, how it can help golfers prepare for pressure, refine movement patterns, and manage anxiety, and why it works best alongside physical practice rather than replacing it. Jon also shares how a structured visualization routine with the Kairo app helped him feel more prepared for a wedge shot that had caused significant anxiety in tournament play—and ultimately helped him execute it under pressure. They also discuss the research behind visualization, common misconceptions, and practical ways golfers can build it into their weekly routine. 880 Worship God In Spirit and Truth, A Guided Christian Meditation on John 4:24-26 with the Recenter With Christ app The purpose of this podcast is to help you find more peace in  and connect with the true source of peace, Jesus Christ. Scripture for Meditation John 4 NET 24 God is spirit, and the people who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." 25 The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (the one called Christ); "whenever he comes, he will tell us everything." 26 Jesus said to her, "I, the one speaking to you, am he." ESV 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." 25 The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things." 26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am he." Reflection on Scripture: God wants us to worship him in spirit. Not just in spirit but in truth. The truth of Jesus, and that he is the Christ, the anointed chosen one who delivers us. In true worship our heart is turned toward God. Turned toward the true glory of God. The woman at the well expected a Messiah. Based on prophecy and cultural tradition. She had an awareness about the most important prophecy of the old testament. The one pointing to Jesus, who she did not know. She had no way of knowing the full impact of that prophecy.  You do. You have an awareness of the truth that Jesus was talking about here. When he finally revealed himself to the woman, she believed. In this meditation your primary focus should be to worship God in spirit and truth. Yes, calming breathing feels good. Brain training to learn to be more relaxed is helpful. Ultimately though the thing that will change, not only your life, but your eternal future, is an awareness of the salvation of God. Not only that but this fact is the most profound form of mental health I could imagine.  You live in a universe where there is a Messiah, a Christ, the God of heaven, capable of creation of the universe and unending destruction. He did not create you, to damn you. He created you to offer you eternal life. God knows your flaws and weaknesses. He knows the worst parts of you and still has chosen to love you. Is there anything to fear or worry about when the God of heaven has chosen to love you with the most profound love. Jesus who is revealed in this scripture is He. Now worship him in spirit and truth. Pour our a heart of gratitude to the one who loves you with a perfect love as only a heavenly father can .  Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit.

Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Howard Hewett. Rushion McDonald invited legendary R&B vocalist Howard Hewett to share the lessons behind his four-decade music career, focusing on perseverance, preparation, personal vision, integrity, and long-term success. The conversation was designed not only for music fans, but also for entrepreneurs, creatives, and professionals seeking insight into how sustained success is built over time. The interview blends Howard's personal journey—from Akron, Ohio, to becoming the lead voice of Shalamar—with practical life and business principles that helped him remain relevant and respected throughout his career. Executive Summary Howard Hewett reflected on his early years as a performer, the unexpected opportunity that led to his joining Shalamar, and the mindset that enabled him to capitalize on life-changing opportunities. He emphasized that success is rarely accidental; it comes from preparation, visualization, discipline, and maintaining integrity. A major theme throughout the interview was that individuals must prepare for opportunities long before they arrive. Hewett explained how years of practice and dedication allowed him to seize the moment when an audition unexpectedly presented itself, eventually launching him into one of R&B's most successful groups. Key Takeaways 1. Preparation Creates Opportunity Howard stressed that talent alone is not enough. Success occurs when preparation meets opportunity. He spent years singing and performing before receiving his breakthrough. When the opportunity to audition for Shalamar arrived, he was ready because he had already done the work. Being "ready" often matters more than being lucky. Business Lesson: Continuous preparation allows people to act decisively when opportunities appear. 2. Visualization Is Powerful Howard discussed the importance of mentally seeing success before it happens. After moving to California, he regularly visualized performing in front of thousands of people. He imagined achieving professional goals long before they became reality. Visualization strengthened his confidence and focus. Business Lesson: Successful people often create a clear vision of their future and work consistently toward it. 3. Your Reputation Matters Throughout the conversation, Howard highlighted the value of character and professionalism. Relationships in the entertainment industry were built on trust. Integrity helped sustain a career that has lasted more than 40 years. Success without character is difficult to maintain. Business Lesson: Reputation is one of the most valuable assets a person can possess. 4. Stay Ready for Unexpected Opportunities One of the most compelling stories involved how Howard joined Shalamar. He received an unexpected phone call while at the Motown building. He auditioned shortly afterward. Within days, he had joined the group and was performing on television. The rapid sequence of events showed how quickly life can change when preparation meets opportunity. Business Lesson: Major breakthroughs often arrive with little warning. 5. Longevity Requires Adaptability Howard's career has spanned multiple generations of music fans. He discussed evolving with the industry while maintaining authenticity. He recognized the importance of growth without losing his artistic identity. Longevity comes from balancing innovation with consistency. Business Lesson: The ability to adapt is essential for sustained success. 6. Believe in Yourself Before Others Do Howard spoke about having confidence in his abilities long before widespread recognition. Self-belief helped him persevere through challenges and uncertainty. Confidence strengthened his willingness to pursue ambitious goals. External success followed an internal commitment to excellence. Business Lesson: Confidence and vision often precede achievement. Notable Quotes & Memorable Messages The interview centered around several recurring themes that Howard expressed throughout the conversation: "Preparation turns opportunity into success." "You have to be ready when the door opens." "Visualization helps create the life you want to live." "Integrity is something nobody can take away from you." "Don't wait for opportunity—prepare for it." "Success starts with believing in yourself." "Always be ready because your opportunity can come when you least expect it." Overall Message The interview was ultimately a masterclass on preparation, vision, self-belief, and longevity. Howard Hewett's story demonstrates that sustained success is not built on luck alone. It comes from years of disciplined preparation, maintaining strong values, visualizing success, and being ready when opportunity arrives. For entrepreneurs, artists, and professionals alike, his message was clear: Stay prepared, protect your integrity, believe in your vision, and be ready when opportunity knocks. #STRAW #BEST #SHMSSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Howard Hewett. He shared the journey that took him from Akron, Ohio, to becoming the lead singer of Shalamar and a successful solo artist. Beyond music, the discussion highlighted lessons that apply to entrepreneurship, business ownership, and personal success. The interview demonstrates that success is rarely accidental; it is usually the result of years of preparation, visualization, discipline, and honoring one's commitments. Key Takeaways 1. Success Begins with Vision Howard began visualizing his future long before he became famous. As a teenager, he practiced signing autographs and imagined himself performing for large audiences. Lesson: Create a clear vision of the future you want before opportunities arrive. Quote: "I always said, I'm going to live in California." Quote: "I would sit there literally and say, 'Love, Howard Hewett.'" 2. Visualization and Meditation Matter After moving to California, Howard developed a routine of sitting by a pool each day, visualizing successful performances and a thriving music career. Lesson: Mental preparation and visualization help build confidence and clarity. Quote: "Every day about 12, 12:30, I would go down to the pool and just visualize what I wanted to do." Quote: "I'd visualize singing in front of thousands of people." 3. Preparation Creates Opportunity One of the interview's central themes was that opportunity alone is not enough. Howard stressed that years of singing, touring, and developing his talent prepared him for the moment Shalamar called. Lesson: Preparation is what allows you to capitalize on opportunity. Quote: "You've got to be in the right place at the right time and be prepared." Quote: "You can be in the right place at the right time, but if you haven't taken the time to prepare yourself, that opportunity can slip away." 4. Every Experience Serves a Purpose Howard spent years performing in show groups and touring internationally before joining Shalamar. At the time, those experiences may not have seemed connected to his ultimate breakthrough. Lesson: What feels like a detour may actually be preparation for a bigger opportunity. Quote: "All those things... were preparing me for that moment." 5. Integrity Is More Valuable Than Contracts When Shalamar offered him a position, Howard still gave the Motown producers he was working with an opportunity to correct their payment issues because he valued his word. Lesson: Reputation and integrity often determine long-term success. Quote: "Your word is worth more than any piece of paper you could ever sign." Quote: "What you say you're going to do is what people look at." 6. Be Ready When Opportunity Knocks Howard received the Shalamar opportunity unexpectedly while sitting in a Motown office discussing unpaid money. Within three days he had auditioned, joined the group, learned choreography, and performed on television. Lesson: Major life changes can happen quickly if you're prepared. Quote: "Friday I got the offer. Saturday I did the audition. Saturday night I was on that plane." 7. Longevity Comes from Consistency Howard discussed having spent virtually his entire life singing professionally, beginning at age ten. Lesson: Sustained success comes from continually developing your craft over decades. Quote: "This is all I've been doing." 8. Sometimes You Must Ignore Skeptics When Howard was offered the lead singer position in Shalamar, people advised him against taking it, believing the group and its record label would not succeed. Lesson: Not everyone sees your opportunity the way you do. Quote: "Shalamar is nothing but a fly-by-night disco group. They won't amount to anything." Yet Howard trusted his instincts and accepted the opportunity that changed his life. Most Memorable Quotes On Vision "I always said, I'm going to live in California." On Visualization "I would go down to the pool and just visualize what I wanted to do." On Preparation "You've got to be in the right place at the right time and be prepared." On Integrity "Your word is worth more than any piece of paper you could ever sign." On Experience "All those things were preparing me for that moment." On Readiness "Because I was prepared, that's how that opportunity came about." Bottom Line Howard Hewett's story is not just about music—it is a masterclass on vision, preparation, persistence, and integrity. His journey shows that breakthroughs often arrive unexpectedly, but only those who have invested years in developing themselves are truly ready to seize them.
