Today is Palm Sunday, the day the church celebrates Jesus' triumphant entry into the city of Jerusalem, only to be crucified by the end of the week. There's one character in the story of Jesus' ride into town that has just captured my imagination. This character shares the spotlight with Jesus, but I don't think we give him or her enough time. Can you guess who I'm talking about?… The donkey! I was reading a book for my Doctorate of

Taped during Passion Week, this message digs into Jesus' Triumphal Entry, specifically evaluating the depth of the ride itself and the stones Jesus referred to when the Pharisees got upset at the Messianic cry of the people welcoming Him as Zechariah's prophesied King.

How was what John wrote in chapter 12-1-19 designed to cause an unbelieving Jew to believe in Jesus---1. This chapter reveals the evil that existed in the heart of Judas long before he betrayed Jesus -he stole from the common purse-.--2. This chapter shows the murderous intent of the leaders despite overwhelming evidence of Jesus' true identity through miracles -they plotted to kill Lazarus, too-.--3. His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey fulfilled Hebrew prophecy -Zechariah 9-9- and shows Jesus as a spiritual Messiah, not a political one.

Palm Sunday we traditionally celebrate the triumphal entry into Jerusalem. As described in the gospel, Jesus's entry into Jerusalem was noted by the crowds present who shouted praises and waived palm branches. Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem inaugurates Holy Week, the week leading to Jesus' crucifixion. We celebrate with joy this Palm Sunday as we prepare our hearts for the agony of his Passion and the joy of his Resurrection. This royal occasion demonstrates the type of King our Messiah is: righteous, humble and riding on a lowly animal of peace. Jesus is establishing a Universal Kingdom of Peace, in direct contrast to the Roman invasion and war that is threatening Jerusalem. The peace Jesus brings will be born of great suffering and tremendous cost. Believers remember the cost by establishing peace wherever they find themselves and sharing it with those around them.
The story of Jesus entering Jerusalem is filled with many contrasts. He was celebrated, but many had different reasons to celebrated and different expectations of Jesus. Pastor Doug encouraged us in the Word to celebrate Christ as our Savior and Lord.

Episode 1 of 1: Jerry explores Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and what the Jews at that time thought it meant. It brings three questions to us now: Do we recognize Jesus as King? Do we follow Him as King? Do we understand the Kingdom He is building?

This Palm Sunday, join us as Teaching Pastor Chad Sparks honors this important day in Jesus' life. The Israelites that honored Jesus' Triumphal Entry were looking for Messiah that would come and save them from the Romans. They had it all wrong! What kind of Messiah are you looking for? Have you missed the point altogether?

Also, a lot of churches are shifting emphasis on the traditional Palm Sunday from the triumphal entry to Jesus' Passion. Good or bad?
