Young Leaders in Biblical Higher Education can feel pressured to advance their institution's goals as swiftly as possible. Our guest, David Dockery, President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, is here to share wisdom gained from over forty years in the industry. His advice is to slow down, learn more about the history of your institution, create enactable plans on multi-year timeframes, and ensure that your actions align with your institution's mission. Carrying out this mission is more difficult than ever, with growing economic and cultural challenges threatening campuses, but Dockery has suggestions for how faith-based nonprofit schools should move forward into the future.Join us as we discuss: [2:08] The importance of recognizing one's own leadership gaps[14:35] The pitfalls of rushing change in a new leadership position[20:37] How the business model of biblical higher education must adaptCheck out these resources we mentioned during the podcast:IACETo hear this interview and many more like it, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or our website, or search for Biblical Higher Ed Talk in your favorite podcast player.Hosted by Ausha. Our guest today is writer  Ralph Dartford who works for the National Literacy Trust and is the poetry editor of literary journal Northern Gravy.   Ralph kindly made the journey from Bradford to the Lockwood residence in Sheffield, and we settled down in my living room with mugs of tea and a plate of biscuits, surrounded by books and looked down upon by at least three pictures of Larkin. Ralph also co-organises the fantastic Louder Than Words festival that takes place in Manchester every autumn, and is a celebration of writing about music. They gather together amazing writers, broadcasters and musicians to discuss, explore and debate all things music and music industry related.  I hope we will continue to see Ralph at more PLS events.Larkin poems mentioned:The Whitsun Weddings, Dockery and Son, Mr Bleaney, For Sidney Bechet, High Windows, Cut Grass, To The Sea, MCMXIV, Here, BroadcastAll What Jazz: A Record Diary 1961-1971 (1985) by Philip LarkinThe Oxford Book of Twentieth Century English Verse - ed.  Philip Larkin (1973) I am happy to see Mr. Larkin's taste in poetry and my own are in agreement ... On this episode we have the pleasure to chat to Anne Dockery. Truly inspirational story that Anne shares after listening to several of our other podcasts and being inspired herself to get in touch and share her journey.Anne Says "I started running when I was 55 as I had been a heavy smoker and I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Had just married an American who suggested I run to strengthen my lungs. So I did and that was the start of an amazing adventure. I ran many local races and did quite well. Runners in Florida turn to triathlons in the hot summer months and I was persuaded to tackle my first triathlon when  I was 63. On my husbands huge bike and being terrified of the swim in the lagoon. But I survived and even won my age group. My coach was a lady of 70+ and she is still doing triathlons. It was wonderful in the warmth of Florida and I tackled quite a few fun events but I dreamt of representing GB. Whilst visiting my mum in Yorkshire I decided to find a triathlon and the only one I found was a British championship race at ST Neots. I bought a wetsuit that week and tried it in an indoor swim pool and thought I would die! At st Neaots I had a lot of issues but I got into the water and I managed to get out of the water having felt like a minnow amongst the tarpon when the 40 year old men came by!! I could hardly haul myself out of the river and wondered how on earth I would get on my bike. I had an audience cheering me on as I tried to extricate myself from the wetsuit…took 7 1/2 minutes!  I was frozen solid on the bike ride and the bike I hired was far from ideal. I was needless to say, next to last! But I would not have missed this race for anything. So thrilled to have finished. It was my 65th birthday the next day,.My next attempt was a little more successful. I wanted to qualify for the Worlds sprint triathlon in Mexico 2017 as it was a quick flight from Florida so I headed to the Dorney Sprint Triathlon May 2016 qualifier . This time I had friends to support me. What a difference. I was last out of the swim: again the hired bike left a lot to be desired but I ran well and came second in my age group .  So I qualified!!!Back in Florida I went to masters swimming twice a week  in hopes of improving. 10/10 for trying! However was forced out of the swim in Mexico 2017 . I knew I was going slowly but was perfectly capable of keeping on to the end so was spitting mad when they told me I had to come out. I was allowed to finish the course which brought other benefits and ,later, I learnt the currents had changed and were becomingb dangerous. Hence my removal, along with a few others. I would not have missed this wonderful experience for anything. Back in UK in 2018 I discovered Duathlons. I qualified at Oulton Park duathlon in april 2018 and found my self heading to Worlds in FYn …I had bought a new bike and booked with Nirvana and off I went in July. I did not know anyone! But in short time I had a whole new family of friends. The joy of being with lots of wonderful like minded people. I had no expectations . Long story short…no one was more amazed than me when I WON!! WOW!! What an amazing moment . Still get shivers down my spine. From  there I went on to come 4th in the Sprint duathlon in Targu Mures in 2022 because I ran an extra lap! The winner lapped me on the bike although we were neck and neck on the first run.  My next task was to get better on the bike and I am still working on that.I then turned to Standard Duathlons and came 3rd in 70-74 in Bilbao behind two amazing athletes, Elspeth Knott and Yvonne Twelvetree .In 2023 I hit the big time again in Standard duathlon age group 75 -79 winning the Europeans and once again winning Worlds. Hard to believe. 2024. I have qualified for the European Standard in Portugal but best of all I am goingb to Malaga to have a shot at actually finishing a sprint

Steel Magnolias - Holding on to the good of The South

Dockery Farms was established by Will Dockery in 1895 to produce cotton, America's most important export of the 19th and early 20th century. African Americans who came to Dockery to cultivate cotton created a culture that inspired the music we know as the Blues. In the words of B.B. King “You might say it all started right here.” We took a trip to see the farm for ourselves on the Mississippi Blues Trail so meet as at the table for more adventures from the Delta….   If you follow this show closely you know that at the end of March we visited Mississippi for the 2nd time since having this podcast… that's the only 2 times we've ever been and there is SO much to learn about the history and culture there that we have divided up episodes from our recent trip to share with you. Today is the final episode from our Delta travels and we are excited to talk about Dockery Farms, located in Cleveland, MS… in the northern part of the state… 2 hours north of Jackson, MS… 2 hours south of Memphis, TN   We got to speak with William Lester, executive director of the Dockery Farm Foundation - he's a historian, taught at Delta State for 38 years and he's also an artist. We don't normally talk about Bruno but this week Paul Bruno Jr is being framed for the death of the judge that put his father Paul Sr. into prison.  Turns out that Paul Jr is being framed for a crime he actually didn't commit.   Support the Show! Be sure to #FillTheFedora on Patreon. Case Profile for The Dockery Affair   Judge Dockery has a knack for falling into the wrong cases across her bench.  First she took a case that put the dastardly criminal Paul Bruno Sr. into prison and then she took on a case for the death of a missing girl, Emma Moody, but the perpertrator Anton Johnston was released.  Normally these two cases would have nothing to do with each other, that is until Judge Dockery turns up dead.      All signs point to Paul Burno Jr. as being the one behind the murder thanks to a note left behind on Dockery's Computer screen but Herbie one of Red's Associates discovers that this is not an open and shut case.  Turns out that The Judge could not have left the note as she was paralyzed before her death, and the person behind that paralyization was one Anton Johnston.  See the Judge and Anton were having an affair after the trial, and during one romantic evening Dockery discovers Emma's neckalace in Johnston's nightstand drawer.     But what does this have to do with The Blacklist, well absolutely nothing so whiles Red has everyone running around he deals with this own problems as Wujing has informed Robert Vesco of Red's partnership with the FBI.  Vesco confronts Red about it, and Vesco returns to Wujing to being the plans to take down Reddington once and for all, or is Vesco a mole?
