In this episode of the Lead On podcast, Jeff Iorg, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Executive Committee, addresses the challenges of ministry leadership, particularly the tendency for Christian leaders to become isolated within Christian circles. Inspired by Chuck Lawless's article, Iorg reflects on questions that probe whether leaders are too cocooned among believers, have made evangelism purely a corporate effort, or lack intentional personal engagement with non-Christians. He emphasizes the importance of breaking out of this Christian subculture to share the gospel personally. Iorg identifies personal and theological barriers, such as fear of failure, fear of cultural engagement, concerns about compromise, and misconceptions about church and discipleship. He advocates for intentionality in changing one's thinking, schedule, and involvement in activities that connect with non-Christians, urging leaders to model gospel-sharing in their daily lives.

In this episode of the Lead On podcast, Jeff Iorg, president of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, discusses the importance and implications of church autonomy in his podcast. He explains that autonomy, meaning self-governing and self-determining, is a core Baptist principle allowing churches to independently manage their leaders, finances, doctrine, and practices. This extends to associations and conventions, which are also autonomous. While autonomy fosters church strength, innovation, and doctrinal consistency, it can also lead to challenges like lack of intervention in struggling churches and limited accountability. Despite these downsides, Iorg emphasizes the positives, advocating for the autonomy of churches to maintain their unique approaches and responsibilities in ministry.

Checkmate is Glassnode's Lead On-chain Analyst and creator of checkonchain. In this interview, we discuss Bitcoin investing and market analysis, Bitcoin as a hedge against inflation and housing market bubbles, the current economic situation, the potential future role of Bitcoin as a settlement currency for nation-states, and the power and unstoppable nature of Bitcoin. - - - - Checkmate is one of the best on-chain analysts, leading Glassnode's on-chain research and data analysis, and also creating checkonchain to provide a suite of Bitcoin on-chain charts. This show's discussion therefore focused on the Bitcoin market and trends, including the impacts of Luna and FTX on market sentiment. We also delved into the concept of profit and how it can be measured, and the importance of understanding market indicators and making informed decisions. Our conversation also took in the macroeconomic situation. We discussed the housing market and the potential risks involved in buying a house. We discussed the high ratio of median house prices to median income in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, referring to it as a "Ponzi scheme." We also considered the current economic situation: its challenges and the need for individuals to be aware of how the system works. Specifically, people need to be aware of the impact of inflation and taxes on their finances. Whilst Bitcoin is a hedge for some, others feel the need to speculate and gamble on markets in the fiat system. Argentina is a valuable example in this context, as Argentinians need to manage their money in the face of triple-digit inflation. As people's wealth can rapidly evaporate in such circumstances, it brings into sharp relief the concept of money as a proxy for time. Towards the end of our conversation, we talked about the power and unstoppable nature of Bitcoin: Bitcoin's design assumes human greed and self-interest, which makes it a powerful and unstoppable organism. Checkmate also provided his opinion on the potential future role of Bitcoin as a settlement currency for nation-states, speculating that nation-states may start testing Bitcoin as a liquid layer on top of their gold reserves, driven by the involvement of oil producers. On September 9th What Bitcoin Did hosted a live show in Sydney. In this first of two podcasts, the guests were the Co-Founder & Co-CEO of Iris Energy Daniel Roberts, Glassnode's Lead On-chain Analyst Checkmate, & the Open Software & Lightning Network developer Rusty Russell. Across these interviews, we discussed various topics related to Bitcoin, including its meaning, its impact on people's thinking, and its potential to reshape the financial system. - - - - What Bitcoin Did's live events are a growing part of our work. We've been incredibly fortunate to host shows across the US and in the UK. Now, we've had the huge honour of hosting a show in Sydney Australia. It is important to extend our reach into new geographies, as the number of talented people working in Bitcoin obviously extends to all corners of the world. But importantly, each geography has invaluable perspectives. This show, as with all the live shows, covered a huge amount of ground. The conversation commenced with Checkmate providing his views on the meaning of Bitcoin. He described money as time and saw Bitcoin as a source of hope and an opportunity to think differently. Further, Checkmate believes that Bitcoin can reshape our understanding of money and its role in society. Rusty Russell, a civil engineer turned Bitcoin advocate, shared his journey from scepticism about finance to working in the field. He explained that as an engineer, he views the world from a problem-solving perspective, which differs from the traditional economic viewpoint. He believes that Bitcoin defies logic for traditional economists because it is too simple and elegant for them to understand. Daniel Roberts and I talked about Iris Energy, a Bitcoin mining company that supports What Bitcoin Did. Daniel explained Bitcoin mining's opportunity in the context of the energy market, and how Bitcoin mining acts as a demand-side battery allowing miners to adjust their energy consumption based on market pricing. We addressed the misconception that Bitcoin miners are exploiting the energy grid, emphasising that they are part of a functioning market and contribute to grid stability. The show also covered many other important topics, including the value of data to trading Bitcoin, patterns of behaviour in the Bitcoin market, the Potential of next-generation computing and AI for Bitcoin mining, the different stages of Bitcoin's development, and the potential risks and uncertainties associated with stablecoins. Watch out for the second show which has the discussion with the equally awesome pairing of Nik Bhatia and Willy Woo. For many guitarists, he is known as one of the earliest exponents of the B-Bender, a mechanical device that allows the "B" string to be raised a whole step via a system of cranks and levers. His work on "Peaceful Easy Feeling" is an excellent example of the sound the device allows and is by far the most accessible and most often heard example of a guitarist using it.  Today we take a look at Leadon's work through the years, spotlight some of his session work, and discuss his original Pull-String equipped Telecaster. We also cover how he ended up on the History of the Eagles tour, and the spartan setup that he used for the 170 dates back out on the road with his old band.Buddy Emmons book - Amazon Affiliate link  https://amzn.to/3zHaqfyBernie Leadon Playlisthttps://open.spotify.com/playlist/72M...Gear Used:Crook Paisley with Glaser B-Bender1959 Harvard ampBoss CS3 comp, MXR Reverb, MXR LooperBass - Danelectro Bass 6Rhythm - Baxendale Kay Mandocello#askzac #bernieleadon #eaglesbandSupport the show

Welcome! We come to you ready to chat after only 4 hours of fantasy suites on the Bachelorette this week. Question: Where are you unwilling to sleep? Two minute recap: We are reminded, frequently, over the course of Monday and Tuesday night that Rachel and Gabby were hurt by Clayton during the fantasy suite episodes. First up, Erich and Gabby. They both declare love for each other. Not-a-metaphor of a date, they take a jump into the water. Gabby is scared then eventually jumps. They have a meaningful conversation while the television screen blacks out Gabby's butt and then they go to the fantasy suite. Rachel chooses to start fantasy suites with Aven. Half of her date with Aven is actually an interview between Jesse and Tino about how much Tino can't handle the idea of Rachel with anyone else. And I guess he should be worried because after the fantasy suite rachel says Aven is the “full package” Twice.Next we watch Tino and Rachel. They basically avoid talking about the whole his parents situation until dinner. Then he's like, nah they like you and if we get engaged they will come around. Somehow Rachel's like that'll do. Then Tino says I love you and Rachel says I love you too (WHAT!) and they go to their hotel room. Gabby and Jonny's day is short. They have fun then Jonny's like yeah, I'm not really ready to settle down. Gabby walks away to think. Then they break up. Then we see glimpses of Jason saying about the same thing as Jonny. Hold on Gabby…Then Erich comes in and not knowing that this whole thing is totally unrolling in his favor, he has to go and say i dont know how I feel about you sleeping with other people. Then they pause the episdoe for TuesdayNight two starts with Gabby and Erich on the bridge. Their conversation ends awkwardly.Jason and Gabby. They go on a date and it seems to be going well. But Gabby feels like she's grasping for something that isn't there and Jason– like what is he doing. Finally he comes clean and explains that he's not ready for an engagement. Gabby tries hard to make it about the show and him being quiet. They go to the fantasy suite and then wake up in separate rooms. Eventually I guess he realized that he just doesn't want to relationship with Gabby. Rachel and Zach. They are super nerdy together and boring. So boring. They go to fantasy suites. It is awkward. Like what happened there. Zach says that she grilled him about being ready and then kept questioning his age. We see Rachel and her guys getting ready for the rose ceremony. Zach is mad. He pulls her aside. WHAT WILL HAPPEN! Gabby tells Erich he's the only one and they say I love you. Then the weirdest most annoying ending. They just stop the episode and Jesse is all like you need to prepare yourself. Good god. Just shorten the episodes. Get this done in one hour and spare us all.Concept 1: Was Erich testing Gabby? He knew what he signed up for, are his concerns justified?Concept 2: Jesse Palmer: Let's talk about his listening and advice giving skills.Concept 3: Leading people on. Did Jason lead on Gabby? Did Rachel lead on Zach?Host 2 wildcard topic: I want one of the guys to decide they want to marry the other principle (so Gabby's guy decides he wants Rachel/Nicole or vice versa). Would he be in the wrong? In the real world, when has a significant other of a friend crossed from “I could date them” to “I am crossing a friend line?” Lessons learnedCity Shoutout: Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna - Piacenza - WikipediaSign off

Welcome to LEAD Now!, a spinoff to LEAD On! where we talk to student leaders at University at Buffalo. This week we talk to the Student Engagement Alternative Break Team Leaders. Alternative Break programs let you volunteer, perform community service and have unique learning opportunities during your spring break. By spending time immersed in a community, you'll learn about your role as a global citizen, make new friends and connections, and discover how you can become an agent of change. After your trip, you'll be able to share the lessons you learned with your local community, and continue to lead a life of active citizenship. Interested in learning more? Contact leadub@buffalo.edu. Although the application is closed for Spring 2022, look out for the opportunity to apply in October 2022. Interested in being an Alternative Break Leader? Applications will open at the end of March/early April.
