Judd Apatow is one of the busiest and most notable behind the scenes guys alive today. Name 10 huge critically acclaimed comedy hits off the top your head - Judd's probably worked on half of them: The Larry Sanders Show, Knocked Up, Bridesmaids, Funny People, The Big Sick, Train Wreck, Girls - it just goes on and on. But now, for the first time in over 25 years, he's back on stage. He's been performing live for the last couple years and now he's got his first ever hour long special. It's called Judd Apatow: The Return and it debuts on Netflix this week. Then, Romesh Ranganathan. He's a British stand up and TV host. And while he might not be a household name stateside, he's looking to change that. Romesh just rented a giant amphitheater in Los Angeles for his big debut - it seats nearly 6,000 people. When we first heard about this in November, he'd sold only 74 tickets. Jesse talks with him about why he's doing it, how his family's past informed his comedy, and what it's like going from crying in a corporate bathroom stall to selling out concert halls in London... and hopefully LA.
Singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III talks life, love and Roman numerals. The prolific musician tells Marc about the heyday of the folk music scene, the late-in-life acting career he didn't expect, and the burden of having talented singer-songwriter children who turn his transgressions into songs. Plus, writer-director-producer (and Loudon Wainwright fan) Judd Apatow stops by to talk about getting back on the standup stage for his Netflix special, Judd Apatow: The Return. Writer/Producer/Director Judd Apatow is one of my favorite filmmakers, with "Knocked Up", "This is 40", "40 Year Old Virgin" and "Funny People" being my personal loves. As the ultimate Hollywood hyphenate, he's produced dozens of Brady family classics such as "Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy", the recent "The Big Sick" and the comedic tour-de-force "Talladego Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby". So why after 22 years would Judd Apatow return to his roots of stand up comedy? Find out here. Judd also shares his method of extracting the most from his entire filmmaking team actors, writers, directors and editors, never stopping until the film is it's funniest. I've always admired how he's encouraged his actors to write his or her own stories, and his support has brought us HBO's "Girls", "Crashing" and all things Franco. Judd Apatow: The Return" debuts December 12th on Netflix. See the trailer here. Enjoy! Jordan This chat is one hour and 40 plus minutes. And hey, "I Am Battle Comic" digital downloads make great stocking stuffers.
