Save & Invest In Your Future Today, visit: https://www.acorns.com/rejects Join Greg Alba and Andrew Gordon as they dive into the outrageous world of the 2015 comedy Get Hard! When wealthy hedge fund manager James King (Will Ferrell, famed for Anchorman and Talladega Nights) is wrongfully sentenced to a decade behind bars for financial fraud, he turns to Darnell Lewis (Kevin Hart, celebrated for Jumanji and Ride Along) – a small‑town car wash owner with a rough‑and‑tumble exterior – to “train” him for prison life. The film also features Alison Brie as Angie King (Community, GLOW), Craig T. Nelson (Parenthood, Poltergeist, Coach) as Judge Martin Barrow, and Tip “T.I.” Harris (Ant-Man, chart‑topping musician) as Ramon, each bringing their own brand of humor and heart to the mix. Greg & Andrew break down every unforgettable scene—from the hilariously misguided “prison training” montages (eye exams, treadmill escapes, and improvised wrestling moves) to the iconic poolside pep talks and rooftop cardio drills. We'll also dissect the film's sharp social commentary, outrageous one‑liners, and the dynamic chemistry between Ferrell and Hart that made Get Hard a laugh‑out‑loud hit. We start out the bonus show this week with a topic about floor generals, with a question centered on Chris Paul and other standout players like Rajon Rondo, Kyle Lowry, and Tony Parker. Despite Chris Paul frequently dominating such lists, Rob made a surprising nod to Rondo, highlighting his exceptional court vision and ability to facilitate plays, likening Rondo's significant impact during his Boston Celtics days as part of a "big four."   We then turn the focus to contemporary stars, sparked by Jeff Teague’s rankings on the Club 250 Podcast. His top picks included Nikola Jokic, Jason Tatum, Luka Dončić, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. This assembly fostered a debate, particularly about Luka's defense, with Rob pointing out the importance of two-way play—a relentless topic in basketball circles about offensive and defensive proficiency. Plus we get into others deserving mention, like Donovan Mitchell and the ageless LeBron James, who continues to impress with his performance at nearly 40 years old. Rob reserved particular praise for Mitchell, noting his all-around game and contributions to his team’s success.   We close it out with frequently quoted favorite films. Blending humor with nostalgia, the co-hosts shared lines from “Tommy Boy,” “Friday,” and “Talladega Nights,” underscoring how these movies remain entrenched in cultural memory. Such discussions illustrate how sports and popular culture often intertwine, offering listeners both laughter and a break from intense sports debates.   00:00 Introduction and Episode Overview 00:35 Debating the Best Floor Generals 03:08 Rondo vs. Ben Simmons: A Shooting Comparison 04:51 Jeff Teague's Top Four NBA Players 05:51 Discussing the Term 'Two-Way Player' 07:44 Top Four NBA Players: Personal Picks 12:05 The Tush Push Controversy in the NFL 14:09 The Controversial Tush Push Play 14:36 Defending Against Running Quarterbacks 15:27 LeBron and Brian Windhorst Relationship 16:24 Annoying TV Personalities 17:43 The Mindset of Athletes 20:32 Favorite Sports Reporters and Announcers 21:50 Most Quoted Movies 23:32 Friday Movie Quotes 25:26 Remembering John Witherspoon

Storytelling is a powerful way to create relationships with your audience. Your stories allow you audience to get to know you. STORYTELLING BY THE BEST The best speakers in the world use powerful storytelling. Zig Ziglar always used great stories in every point he made. He was a master at storytelling. If you've listened to Zig, you've heard the story of the old water pump or the selling pans door to door. He made his stories come to life. When Simon Sinek speaks, he is always telling stories. Watch his TedTalk on starting with why and you will see a talk filled with stories. Brene' Brown is one of my favorites. Her stories of struggle and success make you fall in love with everything she does. Storytelling allows your audience to get to know you. By the stories you tell, your listeners know what you value, what you believe and how you operate. Friendships are formed through storytelling. Watch these three and others to learn from the best. TRANSPORT YOUR LISTENER One reason storytelling is so powerful is that stories transport your listener to other places. They forget about their problems and struggles for a bit. To take your listeners somewhere else, use visual words. Bring your story to life in the theater of the mind. Use words they can see. Active language helps your story come to life. It is easier to see walking than walked. "He walked into the diner" is harder to envision than "He came walking into the diner." Use all five senses. What did it look like? Describe the smells. What were the sounds? How did you feel? The more descriptive your story, the more it will come to life in your listener's mind. DO I LIKE YOU? Stories will help people decide if they like you. Your listeners need to like you in order to listen to you. They are going to spend 30 minutes or an hour with you in their earbuds. It better be more than info. Pretend they are asking, "Would I enjoy taking a one-hour car ride with this person every week?" That is really the essence of your show. Develop friendships by telling a story to your best friend. Let your listener learn something about you. REVEAL THINGS THROUGH STORYTELLING When I review shows for my clients, I always ask myself, "What do I know about the host that I didn't know before the show started?" Reveal things about yourself to let your listeners get closer to you. During a show review for a client recently, he referenced his Italian in-laws, mentioned the movie Talladega Nights and talked about the R&B group Boyz II Men. Little things like that let us get to know him. When are building your influence and authority, you need to become a powerful personality that attracts people. Storytelling defines your character. This is how people get to know, like and trust you. The Bible has lasted for thousands of years because of the stories around a powerful character. Comic book heroes have been around for decades due to the stories and characters. Zig Ziglar was influential because of his storytelling and powerful personality. To increase your influence and significance, leverage storytelling. STORYTELLING WITH DR. MICHELE GUNDERSON In this episode, we have a fantastic interview with Dr. Michele Gunderson. She is a former university instructor and Iyengar yoga teacher who has transformed into a successful entrepreneur. Few films define absurdist comedy, as well as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004). Directed by Adam McKay and starring Will Ferrell as the legendary, moustachioed newscaster Ron Burgundy, Anchorman carved a bold path through comedy with an all-star cast, offbeat humour, and unforgettable quotes that have lingered in pop culture. In this Anchorman (2004) Movie Review, we're diving deep into what makes this cult classic not just a film but an icon of comedy—and one of the most quotable movies of all time.Plot and Characters: When News Was KingSet in the 1970s, a time when "men were men" and women "stayed at home," the story centres around the fictional KVWN Channel 4 News Team, led by the famously self-assured and sometimes painfully oblivious Ron Burgundy. Alongside Ron, we meet his team of misfits: the weather-savvy, clueless Brick Tamland (Steve Carell); overconfident field reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd); and sports anchor Champ Kind (David Koechner), who lives for high fives and pep talks. These characters create a backdrop of harmless but hilarious masculinity that clashes sharply when Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) joins the team as the station's first female anchor.Anchorman's setup brilliantly juxtaposes the absurdly sexist mindset of its male leads against Veronica's ambition, highlighting the shifting social norms of the time. The plot might be thin—it's mostly about Ron and Veronica battling it out for the anchor position—but it's rich in comedic material. It's a satire of news culture, masculinity, and the competitive, ego-fueled world of media that remains relevant today.A Perfect Cast: Comedy's All-Stars UniteWhat makes Anchorman shine is its cast, an ensemble of comedy heavyweights who bring McKay and Ferrell's vision to life. Will Ferrell is flawless as Ron Burgundy, balancing his bumbling arrogance with just enough charm to make you root for him even as he gets himself into deeper trouble. Ferrell's embodiment of Ron's obliviousness and blustering bravado became instantly iconic; it's hard to imagine anyone else playing the role.Meanwhile, Steve Carell's Brick Tamland is a masterpiece of deadpan comedy. With lines like “I love lamp,” Carell captures a character so endearing yet clueless that it's impossible not to laugh. Paul Rudd's Brian Fantana is the epitome of 70s coolness gone hilariously wrong, especially during his “Sex Panther” cologne debacle—a bit so absurdly funny it's now a classic in itself. David Koechner, as Champ Kind, rounds out the team with his absurdly aggressive, often over-the-top take on sports reporting. Each character is individually funny, but together, they create an ensemble that works on a level of comedic chemistry that's rarely matched.Christina Applegate's Veronica is the perfect foil to the bumbling news team. Applegate's character is strong-willed, determined, and smart—qualities that make her the film's moral compass but never dull the humour. Veronica's arc gives Anchorman a unique edge, creating a comedy with an unexpectedly solid message about the power of women in the workplace, wrapped in layers of absurdity.Improvised Brilliance: McKay and Ferrell's Signature ComedyMuch of Anchorman's magic comes from its improvisational style. Adam McKay and Will Ferrell wrote a loose script, allowing the cast the freedom to riff and play off each other's quirks. This is a huge part of the film's charm; the lines feel spontaneous, and the cast's reactions are genuine. Some of the most memorable scenes, such as the Channel 4 news team's infamous back alley brawl with rival news stations, are the result of this improvisational approach. The “news fight” scene, which features cameos from Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, and even Tim Robbins, is so outlandish it has become legendary. It encapsulates what makes Anchorman special—a wild mix of unpredictability and commitment to the bit.McKay's direction leans heavily on satire, poking fun at the masculinity and trivial self-importance of the news business, especially in an era where anchors were often worshipped as local celebrities. McKay and Ferrell's collaboration laid the groundwork for a style of humour that would define future hits like Step Brothers and Talladega Nights, blending absurdity with a hint of social commentary.Cultural Impact: Ron Burgundy's Lasting LegacyAnchorman isn't just a comedy; it's a cultural phenomenon that has transcended the screen. Lines like “Stay classy, San Diego,” “I'm kind of a big deal,” and “Great Odin's raven!” have made their way into everyday conversation, solidifying Ron Burgundy's place in pop culture. The film even spawned a sequel, 2013's Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, although many fans argue the original remains untouchable. This lasting impact speaks to the film's perfect combination of hilarious writing, iconic characters, and the kind of humour that feels fresh every time you watch it.The film's legacy also includes its influence on subsequent comedies. After Anchorman, comedies began more openly embracing improvisational styles, and the genre saw an increase in surreal, character-driven humour. The success of Anchorman gave McKay and Ferrell the leverage to create other offbeat comedies that pushed boundaries and expanded the genre's potential. Why Anchorman Still WorksRe-watching Anchorman almost 20 years later, it still holds up remarkably well. While some of the humour is undeniably ridiculous, the film has an underlying cleverness that gives it staying power. Its satire of the media is still relevant in the age of social media and 24-hour news, and its take on gender dynamics in the workplace remains poignant. For a film filled with absurdist humour, Anchorman has surprising depth and remains one of the most quotable films in the comedy genre.Final Verdict: A Comedy Classic Worth RevisitingIn the Anchorman (2004) Movie Review episode of Born to Watch, we celebrate this comedy classic for its perfect blend of absurdity and satire, brought to life by a dream team cast. From Ron Burgundy's unflinching vanity to Brick Tamland's lovable cluelessness, each character leaves a lasting impression. Anchorman continues to entertain audiences with its unique humour, endlessly quotable lines, and moments of genuine satire that speak to an era obsessed with image and celebrity. So, if you haven't watched Anchorman recently, it's worth revisiting. With every rewatch, you'll find yourself laughing at the same ridiculous lines—and discovering new ones that maybe you didn't catch the first time. This is comedy at its best: brash, bold, and utterly unforgettable. Stay classy, listeners, and join us on Born to Watch as we break down why Anchorman remains one of the greatest comedies of all time. Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcasthttps://www.borntowatch.com.au/

This week, we're chasing Jack The Ripper through time from 19th century London to 1970s San Francisco and falling in love along the way as SepTIMEber continues with one of the goofier movies we've ever watched for the show. It's 1979's Time After Time, written and directed by Nicholas Meyer and starring Malcolm McDowell, David Warner and Mary Steenburgen. It's a film J Mo torrented more than 15 years ago while searching for an MP3 of the Cyndi Lauper song of the same, it's a tenuous application of our podcast criteria but we'll allow it when the film is this fun. The debut picture from a man who would go on to direct Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan -- with writing and directing credits on several other notable Trek films as well -- it is a great showcase for the energy he can bring to a movie, and the film's clumsier moments lend it a boyish charm befitting of McDowell's portrayal H.G. Wells. It's not a great movie but there's something about it that is worth tracking down. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along this week, you may have a difficult time doing so because Time After Time is not available anywhere on streaming, but is currently rentable on YouTube at the time of publication. Other works discussed on this episode include The Leftovers, Devs, Lost, Evil, The Fall Guy, Speak No Evil, The Fabelmans, Licorice Pizza, Jurassic Park III, Step-Brothers, Will & Harper, Talladega Nights, Anchorman, Backspot, Timeline, The Time Machine, A Clockwork Orange, Star Trek Generations, Wayne's World, Primer, Zodiac, Back to the Future Part III, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Bones and In Time. We'll be back next week to wrap up SepTIMEber, as Hayley's got the keys to the vault yet again and has put forth the Rachel McAdams 2012 time-travel romance About Time as our monthly consideration for induction into the pod-canon. Similar to the last few movies we've covered, About Time is unfortunately not available to stream at the moment in Canada, though maybe in time that will change. Once again it is rentable on YouTube and via the Cineplex app. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

Will Ferrell starts as the titular Ron Burgundy, a popular San Diego news anchor in the mid '70's who sees his world turned upside down when his station eventually hires a woman(!) to be a potential co-anchor on his news program.  Her name is Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), she's excellent at her job, they start dating, they fall in love.....and complications result.  This satirical comedy was directed by Adam McKay (Don't Look Up, Talladega Nights) and features a pretty stacked cast of gifted comedic actors including Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner, Kathryn Hahn, and Fred Willard.  It was released twenty years this month and would end up being one of the more quoted comedies of the 21st Century.  Let's find out if how it still holds up....Stay Classy, San Diego!Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a Text Message.https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Welcome to the Munsons at the Movies podcast. Each episode we delve into the filmography of a randomly selected actor. In this episode, we explore the life & career of Will Ferrell. Best known for his roles as Ron Burgundy in the Anchorman films, Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights (2006), Brennan in Step Brothers (2008), and a legendary run on Saturday Night Live, no one improvises quite like Ferrell in Hollywood. Joined once again by Jay Ledbetter of AwardsWatch, we discuss his unmatched ability to crack his co-stars on SNL, his insanely quotable characters over the years, his off-the-screen antics, and whether Aubrey's distaste for Ferrell changes after this deep dive. How does he rank on the Munson Meter? Listen to find out.

What's the best way to usher in the New Year? On this week's episode, legendary voiceover artist Bill Ratner shares a true story from his early days in Radio: When his green card bride Claudine leaves him, he's alone during the Holidays in an empty double wide and his evening shift duties at KJOI (LA's easy listening music station). So when a fan requests something a bit more intimate than the Percy Faith Orchestra, why not make her happy? And on New Year's Eve, they produce their own live show together over the air waves, using the station's 50,000 watts of power to make the world a bit less lonely.  And Dixie ends the year with the story you've been asking her for. #HappyNewYear   Song: ‘Love's A Stranger' (Warhaus)   New Year l Radio DJ l Drive by Fucking l Anonymous Sex | Music Request Line l Radio Antenna l 1970's l Lubrication l Harlequin Romance Novel l Top of Topanga Mobile Home Park l Double Wide l Vaseline l Instrumental Radio l Muzak l Muumuu | Terrycloth Bathtub Animals l FM Transmitter l Top of the Hour l Station ID l Honda Civic l Radio Console l Blinking LEDs I Percy Faith Orchestra l Middle Age l Smog l Order Up a Man l Microphone l Los Angeles l Happy New Year l Divorce l Radio Tower l Lawrence Welk l Green Card l Quell l Radio Station l Marriage l Swiss l London l LA l Radio Announcer l Chief Engineer l Sales Manager l   About our Storyteller:   Bill Ratner is one of Hollywood's premier voiceover artists and a published poet, essayist, and fiction writer. Recorded: November 29th 2023 | On this weeks episode the boys recap the wild weekend that was in the College Football and NFL landscape. Michigan jumped up to the #1 ranking and are now matched up with Alabama in the semi finals for the College Football Playoff. Will and Taylor give their honest thoughts on whether or not they agree with the committee's decision to leave out an undefeated Florida State from the playoff. Plus Taylor is still on the boat of Michigan vs. Everybody and how Michigan should embrace this underdog attitude going up against Alabama. The boys also get into the good, bad and the ugly from the NFL week. So notable things that made the list, Chargers beating the Patriots by only scoring 6 points, the ref got his leg broken by Alvin Kamara and Packers beating the Chiefs. You can take a guess as to which events fall in what category. Following the intro, the boys are joined by 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Champion, Ryan Blaney. We didn't have Ryan for very long but the boys made the most of the time that we did have. Will and Taylor aren't the biggest of NASCAR fans so some of the questions that are asked make no sense but are hilarious. Including when Will asked if the drivers "Shake and Bake" and use the "Slingshot" method from one of the best sports movies of all time, Talladega Nights. This interview allows Ryan to show his true self and he fit in perfect with the boys.
