Recorded: June 9th 2026 | Welcome back to another episode of Racin’ With The Boys. We are joined this week by two buddies who have long history together, Noah Gragson and Chase Briscoe. The guys start off the show talking about pre-race superstitions, which one of them, is pretty out there. Noah and Chase get into how their friendship started and what it was like racing together at Stewart-Haas Racing. For Chase, Tony Stewart was his favorite driver growing up. He talks about how cool it was being able to race for his idol and they both get into what it was like searching for a new ride when the team shut down. Each of the guys talk about how they got into racing and Chase’s story of how he got a ride is a crazy story. Noah and Chase also say how they think NASCAR should allow fighting again back in the sport and how it brings more viewership. Chase and Noah get into what their pre-race anxiety is like and what the pressure is like week in and week out. Chase drives for Joe Gibbs Racing and when he first joined the team he thought if he didn’t win, he would lose his job. Both of the guys stared in NASCAR’s mini movie “NASCAR vs. Navy: The San Diego Mini Movie”. They talk about how cool of an experience that was and who is the better actor between the two of them. The boys end the show talking about having to go to the bathroom during the race and each have crazy stories about what it’s like. All in all, this is a fun listen and really shows the guys personalities throughout. Recorded: May 27th 2026 | Welcome to the first episode of Racin' With The Boys. For the first episode, we thought we'd give you guys two of the top drivers in NASCAR, Ryan Blaney and Bubba Wallace. The guys start off the show about asking Bubba what it is like driving for one of the GOAT's in all of sports, Michael Jordan. Bubba and Blaney get into what is like driving for two of the premier teams in the sport in 23XI and Team Penske. Bubba gets into how cool it is to be driving the 23 car for Michael Jordan and how it can be difficult at times racing against the other owner of the team, Denny Hamlin. Bubba and Ryan are really good friends and talk what it was like coming up through the ranks of NASCAR together and racing each other when they were kids. The guys get into what race preparation looks like each week and how much actually goes into getting ready for every week. Ryan gives his thought on how the new NASCAR playoff, "The Chase", is better than the previous playoff format as it rewards consistency rather luck. Will and Taylor then have some fun with the guys asking what they get their crew members each year for Christmas, let's just say, the boys need to get better at gift giving. Bubba has a wild take by saying "Talladega Nights" is a terrible movie and thinks it paints all the drivers as dumb rednecks. The boys then end the pod talking about how tough it was losing Kyle Busch suddenly. Each of them pay their respects and say how much he meant to them and how it still doesn't feel real. Movie of the Year: 2006A New Season Begins The Movies of 2006 Podcast Begins: 128 Films Enter the BracketThe movies of 2006 podcast is officially underway, and the Taste Buds are ready to take on one of the richest film years of the 21st century. Ryan, Mike, and Greg kick off the 2006 season on PopFilter by introducing the year, explaining the bracket structure, and beginning the first round of eliminations. Furthermore, Part 1 of the intro sets the tone for a season packed with genuine heavyweights, unlikely contenders, and some of the most debated films of the decade.2006 delivered a field that refuses to cooperate with easy rankings. The Departed sits alongside Pan's Labyrinth, Children of Men, and Little Miss Sunshine in the same calendar year. Additionally, Casino Royale, The Prestige, Babel, Borat, and Idiocracy all arrived in 2006, representing wildly different visions of what cinema can accomplish. The Taste Buds have their work cut out for them.About the 2006 Film Year2006 stands as one of the most celebrated film years of the decade. Martin Scorsese's The Departed swept the Academy Awards, winning Best Picture and earning Scorsese his first Oscar for Best Director. Meanwhile, Guillermo del Toro delivered Pan's Labyrinth, a Spanish-language dark fantasy that works equally as a fairy tale and a historical horror. Alfonso Cuarón's Children of Men earned near-universal acclaim for its singular, one-take-heavy vision of a dying civilization. The box office reflected 2006's breadth. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest topped the global charts. Casino Royale relaunched the Bond franchise with Daniel Craig in his debut as 007. Cars kept Pixar's winning streak intact. Moreover, the comedies were just as crowded: Borat, Talladega Nights, Idiocracy, and Clerks II each built devoted audiences. Consequently, building a bracket from this year means making choices that will draw genuine disagreement from all directions.International cinema contributed heavily to 2006's depth. Alejandro González Iñárritu's Babel earned seven Academy Award nominations after competing at Cannes. Pedro Almodóvar's Volver brought Penélope Cruz one of her most celebrated screen performances. The year also produced major releases from Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain), Sofia Coppola (Marie Antoinette), Christopher Nolan (The Prestige), and Mel Gibson (Apocalypto). In practice, few years in recent memory offer this density of debate-worthy titles across this many genres. The movies of 2006 represent a year when every corner of the industry produced something worth arguing about. How the Movie of the Year Bracket WorksMovie of the Year uses a bracket format borrowed from sports tournaments. The Taste Buds seed 128 films from a given year and match them head-to-head across multiple rounds until one earns the title of best of the year. The movies of 2006 provide an especially deep pool to draw from. Each round cuts the field in half: 128 to 64, 64 to 32, 32 to the Sweet 16, and on through the Elite Eight, Final Four, and championship. Notably, the bracket covers the full range of the year — prestige titles, genre pictures, comedies, blockbusters, and deep cuts all compete on equal footing. The seeding and matchups drive the conversation. A high-seeded favorite facing a scrappy underdog often produces the most spirited debates, because the Taste Buds evaluate every film on its own terms. No film earns an automatic pass based on reputation alone. A beloved blockbuster can fall in round one. A smaller film can advance much further than anyone expects. Therefore, the bracket functions as a pressure test for every assumption the hosts carry into the season. The format also distinguishes Movie of the Year from a standard best-of list. The hosts cannot simply rank their favorites and close the debate. Instead, they defend each pick against a direct opponent, round after round. Above all, the bracket produces arguments that a list never could, because every vote carries immediate consequences. To see what this process looks like across a full season, the Movie of the Year archive includes complete coverage of every year the Taste Buds have tackled, including the recently completed 1971 season. The 2006 First Round: Inside the Movies of 2006 Podcast BracketThe first round of the 2006 season pits 64 matchups against one another and cuts the field in half. Part 1 of the intro covers the opening set of battles, with Part 2 completing the round. Even the quickest first-round decisions carry weight, because an early upset can remove a major contender long before the serious rounds begin.2006 gives the hosts no shortage of compelling first-round scenarios. High-profile releases like Superman Returns, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Blood Diamond arrive as recognizable titles but face real scrutiny on merit. Films like Half Nelson, Brick, and Thank You for Smoking represent the indie side of the year with strong critical backing. Moreover, the international titles — Pan's Labyrinth, Volver, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer — introduce a different set of criteria into the matchups entirely. The documentary field adds another dimension. An Inconvenient Truth became one of 2006's most discussed releases and earned Al Gore an Academy Award. Jesus Camp generated controversy and critical notice in equal measure. Additionally, the horror entries, the prestige dramas like United 93 and The Good Shepherd, and the awards-season crowding all create pressure across the bracket from the opening round. Roger Ebert's four-star review of The Departed captures the critical consensus around 2006's most decorated film. Nevertheless, the first round is only the beginning. Why 2006 Still Matters2006 represents a pivotal moment in 21st-century cinema. The year demonstrated that prestige filmmaking and mass entertainment could share a single calendar without one displacing the other. The Departed and Pan's Labyrinth both belong to 2006. Borat and Children of Men arrived the same year. That range matters because the best film years do not produce one kind of great film — they produce many kinds simultaneously. Moreover, 2006 produced titles that have only grown in cultural stature since their release. Idiocracy arrived with little fanfare and now functions as a widely cited cultural reference point. Children of Men drew modest theatrical audiences and currently ranks among the most admired films of the decade in retrospective criticism. The Prestige built a devoted following that continues to generate debate about its structure and its final image. Additionally, Casino Royale remains the gold standard for modern Bond films nearly two decades later. The movies of 2006 podcast gives these films a structured arena to compete. That structure reveals something a ranked list cannot: which films hold up under sustained comparison, which reputations survive direct opposition, and which consensus picks turn out to be more fragile than they appear. 2006 deserves this treatment. The Taste Buds are the right crew to find out which film earns the crown.Related Episodes from Movie of the YearMovie of the Year — Full Episode ArchiveThe Last Picture Show — Movie of the Year: 1971A Clockwork Orange — Movie of the Year: 1971More 2006 episode pages will be linked here as the season progresses.FAQ: Movies of 2006 Podcast and Film YearWhat is the movies of 2006 podcast intro episode about? Tom Cruise arrives in NASCAR with a middle tooth, another motorcycle, and starts rubbing.  See, once upon a time Tom Cruise and Paul Newman apparently drove a race car and immediately decided America needed two hours of sweaty pit crews, beer-soaked grandstands, and Michael Rooker looking like he's about to stuff somebody into a locker. Oh yeah, and: Robert Duvall farming wisdom, Randy Quaid before the full unraveling, and an endless parade of "wait, THEY'RE in this too?" character actors flying past at 180 mph. Nick, Elise, and Anthony spend an alarming amount of time discussing NASCAR science, accidental homoeroticism, and the absolute menace of early-career Tom Cruise teeth. There's appreciation for Tony Scott's ability to make race cars look like fighter jets, disbelief that this thing got an Oscar nomination for sound, and growing realization that Talladega Nights may actually be the more grounded movie. Somewhere in there we also talk about Days of Thunder. And as we wave the checkered flag for Robert Duvall, we're glad we got one more ride with Harry Hogge before he disappeared into the great infield garage in the sky. On this episode, the Cold War Cinema crew is joined by director, writer, and producer Adam McKay to discuss John Frankenheimer's paranoid, psychological thriller Seconds (1966). McKay has written and directed many celebrated feature films such as Anchorman (2004), Talladega Nights (2006), Step Brothers (2008), The Big Short (2015), Vice (2018), Don't Look Up (2021), and numerous others. Prior to this, McKay was a founding member of the Upright Citizens Brigade in the early 1990s, and head writer for Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2001. In 2019, McKay founded Hyperobject Industries, and has served as the executive producer of HBO's Succession (2019–2023), Game Theory with Bomani Jones (2022–2023), and, most recently, The Chair Company (2025) starring Tim Robinson.  Synopsis of the film: Middle-aged banker Arthur Hamilton (John Randolph) feels trapped in a life that has calcified into routine and regret. When he receives a phone call from an old friend who he thought was long dead, and a shadowy organization known simply as "the Company" offers him the ultimate second chance, he fakes his death, and undergoes radical surgery to assume a new identity. Reborn as artist Tony Wilson (Rock Hudson), he's given youth, wealth, and access to a new bohemian lifestyle on a seaside in Malibu. While his transformation at first feels intoxicating, the promise of freedom begins to fray and ultimately fracture. As Tony struggles to inhabit his new self, paranoia creeps in and the illusion of choice gives way to something far more unsettling. Shot in stark black-and-white with disorienting lenses and claustrophobic compositions, Seconds is less a sci-fi fantasy than an existential nightmare—an unsettling meditation on identity, conformity, and the seductive lie that starting over can save us from who we are. On this episode we discuss: McKay's work as a comedian, comedy writer, and filmmaker, his political and cinematic influences, the paranoid style of filmmaking in the 1960s, satire, the looming specter of climate apocalypse, why the world needs a Ho Chi Minh biopic, and much more. _____________________ We love to give book or film recommendations on the podcast, so here are ours for this episode:  Adam: Jafar Panahi's It Was Just an Accident (2025) and Andrey Zvyagintsev's Leviathan (2014)  Paul: A Little Solitaire: John Frankenheimer and American Film by Murray Pomerance and R. Are we back or are we back?? The answer is WE ARE BACK!!! Again with "The Other Guys". Nick Jones pick of the week. It was mid but you know we let him throw his movies around here and there. He didn't start start the podcast like Trent and I- we brought him on after we already had nothing to lose you know? Still gonna keep him around though- every once in a while he throws a pretty good pick. Regardless still a good episode cause Stephen brings the heat with the comedy. Even though the movie was ass. Mostly because of Mark W being annoying the entire time. I would have personally cast Will F counterpart in Talladega Nights. I always forget his name but their dynamic is so much better. If you read this far you don't even need to listen to the episode you got the gist of it. Official Hypocritic podcast review (3.0)

Comedian David Koechner talks about growing up in a big family in a small Missouri town, and developing the need to be heard and seen by taking the attention, the importance of SNL and Monty Python. Deciding to be a performer. Making the move to Chicago, the influence of being Catholic, the fall of old show business, trying to carve out a career in the aftermath. Becoming a stand-up, how we don't own our kids, improv vs drama, feuds, apologies, Adam McCay, Del Close, and the maturity to not spill a milkshake over yourself even if you will get a laugh. Bio:David Michael Koechner on August 24, 1962, in Tipton, Missouri, his parents ran a business manufacturing turkey coops. He has two brothers and three sisters. He studied political science before moving to Chicago to pursue improvisational comedy at ImprovOlympic and Second City.  Koechner was a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1995–1996, performing in sketches like "Bill Brasky" and "The British Fops". His breakout film role was as Champ Kind in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), a character he returned to in the 2013 sequel. He also played Todd Packer in 15 episodes of The Office (2005–2013), a role for which Steve Carell recommended him. Koechner has appeared in numerous other films, including Talladega Nights, Thank You for Smoking, Extract, and Waiting..., and received praise for his dramatic role in Cheap Thrills (2014). His television work includes voice roles in American Dad! and recurring parts in shows like Another Period and The Goldbergs. He continues to perform stand-up comedy and tours with "The Office Trivia with 'Todd Packer'".  David performs stand-up around the country and is available for dinner if the food's good. Editing Notes: David does a LOT of shitting on priests and churches and show biz.  I think it gets boring.

Coy Jandreau & Roxy Striar dive into the tense 2009 action thriller Law Abiding Citizen, directed by F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job, Straight Outta Compton). The film stars Gerard Butler (300, Olympus Has Fallen) as Clyde Shelton, a man seeking brutal justice after his wife and daughter are murdered, and Jamie Foxx (Ray, Collateral) as Nick Rice, an ambitious Philadelphia prosecutor who struck a plea deal with the killers. What begins as a quest for vengeance quickly escalates into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse as Shelton orchestrates a series of calculated, shocking attacks on the justice system itself. The cast also features Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Layer Cake) as Detective Dunnigan, Bruce McGill (Animal House, Collateral) as District Attorney Jonas Cantrell, Viola Davis (Fences, The Woman King) as Mayor April Henry, Regina Hall (Scary Movie, Girls Trip) as Kelly Rice, and Leslie Bibb (Iron Man, Talladega Nights) as Sarah Lowell. Some of the most infamous and highly searched moments include the gruesome retribution scene with one of the killers, Shelton's shocking ability to commit crimes while incarcerated, the explosive citywide attacks, and the chilling finale that pits Rice against Shelton's master plan. A mix of moral dilemma, intense action, and psychological thrills, Law Abiding Citizen remains one of the most talked-about thrillers of the late 2000s. Send us a textRacing isn't just a weekend hobby for 17-year-old Dominique Champlin—it's a family legacy that's "wedged its way into her life routine." From the moment she climbed into an alcohol-powered go-kart at age six, motorsports has been her driving passion, leading to her first championship at just seven years old. What makes Dominique's story remarkable goes beyond her three championships or her current late model racing career. It's her unwavering commitment despite a schedule that would exhaust most adults. She rises at 4:30 AM for a 10-hour workday at a livestock farm, then heads straight to prepare her race car before making the hour drive to Mid-Michigan Raceway Park in Fenwick. When asked how she manages this punishing schedule, her answer is refreshingly honest: "I'm not too sure how I do it, but I do."The young racer's journey reflects the heart of grassroots motorsports—family support, financial challenges, and the pure joy of competition. Her #87 late model showcases the colors of IBEW, a union that provides her with a rare 10-year sponsorship contract. This financial backing came with an emotional moment when she and her grandfather "had to go out and cry a little bit" after receiving their first check. While her mother might prefer she sell all the race cars and take up dancing, Dominique finds purpose in inspiring younger girls at the track. She races alongside her 14-year-old brother in what she describes as a "Talladega Nights" dynamic, complete with "shake and bake" moments on the dirt track. Despite blown engines, wrecks, and a currently bent frame, she sits fourth in points—proof of her skill and determination.Subscribe to hear more stories like Dominique's, where passion meets perseverance and where every woman's racing journey deserves celebration. On the one hand, the IMAX-driven spectacle of F1 is undeniably satisfying to watch on the big screen; on the other hand, we all walked out of Joseph Kosinski's second teamup with producer Jerry Bruckheimer unsure whether it qualifies as a movie and not just a sophisticated simulation thereof. Despite the star power of Brad Pitt and a plethora of familiar sports-movie tropes, there's a human element missing from F1 that left us all slightly perplexed, and which is thrown into even sharper relief when placed against the character-driven comedy of the other film in this pairing, TALLADEGA NIGHTS. But despite their drastically different points of view, the two share some uncanny similarities that we get into during Connections, from their shared narrative tension between team loyalty and individual glory, to a crash-and-burn approach to trauma, to a wallpaper-like view of corporate sponsorship. Then we take an extra lap on this racing pairing with a Your Next Picture show recommendation for the long-running Netflix docuseries F1: DRIVE TO SURVIVE. The new F1 brings even more attention to a sport/brand that's becoming as popular in the U.S. as it is internationally, but its application of sports-movie tropes to the world of racing, in particular its focus on an intersquad rivalry, has big, booming echoes in the defiantly American world of NASCAR as depicted in TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY. The 2006 Adam McKay/Will Ferrell comedy isn't even two decades old, but as discussed in this week's revisitation, its loose, improv-driven approach already feels like a relic of the past, and to what degree it all holds up today is a matter of some debate — though we can at least all agree that Baby Jesus is the best Jesus. We start out the bonus show this week with a topic about floor generals, with a question centered on Chris Paul and other standout players like Rajon Rondo, Kyle Lowry, and Tony Parker. Despite Chris Paul frequently dominating such lists, Rob made a surprising nod to Rondo, highlighting his exceptional court vision and ability to facilitate plays, likening Rondo's significant impact during his Boston Celtics days as part of a "big four."   We then turn the focus to contemporary stars, sparked by Jeff Teague’s rankings on the Club 250 Podcast. His top picks included Nikola Jokic, Jason Tatum, Luka Dončić, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. This assembly fostered a debate, particularly about Luka's defense, with Rob pointing out the importance of two-way play—a relentless topic in basketball circles about offensive and defensive proficiency. Plus we get into others deserving mention, like Donovan Mitchell and the ageless LeBron James, who continues to impress with his performance at nearly 40 years old. Rob reserved particular praise for Mitchell, noting his all-around game and contributions to his team’s success.   We close it out with frequently quoted favorite films. Blending humor with nostalgia, the co-hosts shared lines from “Tommy Boy,” “Friday,” and “Talladega Nights,” underscoring how these movies remain entrenched in cultural memory. Such discussions illustrate how sports and popular culture often intertwine, offering listeners both laughter and a break from intense sports debates.   00:00 Introduction and Episode Overview 00:35 Debating the Best Floor Generals 03:08 Rondo vs. Ben Simmons: A Shooting Comparison 04:51 Jeff Teague's Top Four NBA Players 05:51 Discussing the Term 'Two-Way Player' 07:44 Top Four NBA Players: Personal Picks 12:05 The Tush Push Controversy in the NFL 14:09 The Controversial Tush Push Play 14:36 Defending Against Running Quarterbacks 15:27 LeBron and Brian Windhorst Relationship 16:24 Annoying TV Personalities 17:43 The Mindset of Athletes 20:32 Favorite Sports Reporters and Announcers 21:50 Most Quoted Movies 23:32 Friday Movie Quotes 25:26 Remembering John Witherspoon

Storytelling is a powerful way to create relationships with your audience. Your stories allow you audience to get to know you. STORYTELLING BY THE BEST The best speakers in the world use powerful storytelling. Zig Ziglar always used great stories in every point he made. He was a master at storytelling. If you've listened to Zig, you've heard the story of the old water pump or the selling pans door to door. He made his stories come to life. When Simon Sinek speaks, he is always telling stories. Watch his TedTalk on starting with why and you will see a talk filled with stories. Brene' Brown is one of my favorites. Her stories of struggle and success make you fall in love with everything she does. Storytelling allows your audience to get to know you. By the stories you tell, your listeners know what you value, what you believe and how you operate. Friendships are formed through storytelling. Watch these three and others to learn from the best. TRANSPORT YOUR LISTENER One reason storytelling is so powerful is that stories transport your listener to other places. They forget about their problems and struggles for a bit. To take your listeners somewhere else, use visual words. Bring your story to life in the theater of the mind. Use words they can see. Active language helps your story come to life. It is easier to see walking than walked. "He walked into the diner" is harder to envision than "He came walking into the diner." Use all five senses. What did it look like? Describe the smells. What were the sounds? How did you feel? The more descriptive your story, the more it will come to life in your listener's mind. DO I LIKE YOU? Stories will help people decide if they like you. Your listeners need to like you in order to listen to you. They are going to spend 30 minutes or an hour with you in their earbuds. It better be more than info. Pretend they are asking, "Would I enjoy taking a one-hour car ride with this person every week?" That is really the essence of your show. Develop friendships by telling a story to your best friend. Let your listener learn something about you. REVEAL THINGS THROUGH STORYTELLING When I review shows for my clients, I always ask myself, "What do I know about the host that I didn't know before the show started?" Reveal things about yourself to let your listeners get closer to you. During a show review for a client recently, he referenced his Italian in-laws, mentioned the movie Talladega Nights and talked about the R&B group Boyz II Men. Little things like that let us get to know him. When are building your influence and authority, you need to become a powerful personality that attracts people. Storytelling defines your character. This is how people get to know, like and trust you. The Bible has lasted for thousands of years because of the stories around a powerful character. Comic book heroes have been around for decades due to the stories and characters. Zig Ziglar was influential because of his storytelling and powerful personality. To increase your influence and significance, leverage storytelling. STORYTELLING WITH DR. MICHELE GUNDERSON In this episode, we have a fantastic interview with Dr. Michele Gunderson.
