If you missed a number of recent films in theaters then this is really the Blu-ray week for you. Beyond those, Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski still have some titles for you to consider if you can't get enough of Nicholas Hoult in vampire films or you really like those new digital shorts on SNL. There's also the tale of graverobbers that took their work a little too far, an obscure relationship melodrama from the 1940s and an influential ghost story set against the backdrop of the Japanese Civil Wars. 0:00 - Intro 1:50 - Criterion (Ugetsu 4K) 8:22 - Film Masters (Lighthouse) 16:38 - Kino (Burke and Hare (1972)) 22:07 - Shout (Renfield 4K, Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain) 33:54 - TV (Superman and Lois: The Complete Series) 34:26 - NEW (Companion, A Complete Unknown, Mufasa: The Lion King, Dog Man, Flight Risk, Into the Deep, Love Me, Love Hurts, One of Them Days,) 49:36 – New Blu-ray Announcements CLICK ON THE FILMS TO RENT OR PURCHASE AND HELP OUT THE MOVIE MADNESS PODCAST

In 2001, Chris Elliott signed up for a banjo class at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, which happened to be taught by legendary banjo player Alan Munde, and he hasn't looked back since. After playing in various string bands over the years, such as Spring Creek, Chain Station, and Ragged Union, he had an idea to put the banjo in a specific configuration – a trio that included banjo, percussion, and electric bass. Elliott now has a trio including a banjo, played by himself; a banjo bass, played by Kyle Ussery; and a banjo drum kit, played by Chris Sheldon.Stay tuned to the end of the episode to hear host Jamie Lammers announce the winner of the 2024 Poetry Contest! Movie Meltdown - Episode 618 This episode we discuss Enzo G. Castellari's 1983 post-apocalyptic “classic” Warriors of the Wasteland aka The New Barbarians. And as we strap on our bubble armor, we also mention… As Above so Below, Skinamarink, Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain, Once Upon a Deadpool, bad smoke effects, George Eastman, the unnecessary dome, George Miller, extra tubes n' stuff, A Fistful of Dollars, VHS, there's secretly a Matt Damon hiding somewhere in your movie, questionable theme music, the Starscream of the group, three different cameras shooting at three different film speeds, a weird creepy kid, the most awkward shadow sex, floppy shoulders, no backstory, a very hilly area outside of Rome, if Indiana Jones was a horror movie, Fred Savage, wearing camouflage in the 80s and the golf carts from hell. Spoiler Alert: Full spoilers for Warriors of the Wasteland, I mean if you can actually ruin this movie? “Again that's what I love about these movies. Like, half the time none of this shit makes sense… but you just kind of just keep going with it.”
If you've watched any recent episodes of Saturday Night Live over the past couple seasons, you might have seen these guys. And they got a movie, while Lonely Island never (officially) did. The Film School Janitors watched PLEASE DON'T DESTROY: THE TREASURE OF FOGGY MOUNTAIN because they thought it might be like THE GOONIES. It is not. This is their review.

Ever wonder what goes into creating a comedy film? Or why some jokes land while others falter? Strap in folks, as we dissect the world of comedy films in our latest podcast episode, where no movie is safe from our critique! We kick off the conversation with the comedy movie "Please Don't Destroy: The Legend of Foggy Mountain". From discussing the movie's lack of focus to appreciating its clever writing and funny moments, we analyze it all. We then shift gears to "Game Over, Man!" and critique its missed opportunities in terms of humor and character development. But it's not all doom and gloom; we express our admiration for Andy Samberg's comedic genius in "Hot Rod". Of course, no comedy discussion is complete without a thorough analysis of the joke mechanics and audience engagement. We question the execution of product placement in films and discuss the handling of sensitive topics in films like "Scary Movie 2". We share our thoughts on the new Albert Brooks documentary, and Keanu Reeves' movie "Replicas". And it goes without saying - we love our listeners! A big shoutout to our YouTube new subscriber, Tim Lasowski, for his support. So, join us on this rollicking ride through movie critiques, comedy analysis, and lots, lots more!Be our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT
This wee Andrew and Ted take a break from their Christmas movie block to bring you what they're calling "Breaking News" with their review of "Please Don't Destroy - The Treasure of Foggy Mountain". This Peacock TV original movie stars SNL writer alum Martin Herlihy, Ben Marshall, and John Higgins. Having said that if you're assuming that this a comedy then you would be absolutely correct and if you defined it as a sophomoric comedy move the front of the line. Now because it is defined as such don't hastily dismiss it ... that is until you've had a chance to listen to Andrew and Ted.

Comedy, as we all know, evokes personal reactions. Some people laugh at the stand-up goofiness of Brian Regan, while others laugh at the dead baby jokes of Anthony Jeselnik—and some yawn at both. On this week's show, Dan Webster, Nathan Weinbender, and Mary Pat Treuthart discuss a pair of movies that take widely diverse views of comedy. One, titled “Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain,” is clear farce. The other, “Dream Scenario,” may not strike some viewers as comic at all.
Simon sits down with director and screenwriter Paul King and screenwriter Simon Farnaby to discuss their new Timothée Chalamet-starring Christmas blockbuster, ‘Wonka', which is a prequel to the Roald Dahl children's classic ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Mark gives his take on the film, along with reviewing ‘Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain', the Saturday Night Live trio's first comedy feature about a three childhood friends who realise they don't like their life trajectory and so set off to find the treasure that is rumoured to be buried in a nearby mountain; and ‘Leave the World Behind', Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail's star-studded psychological thriller – and adaptation of the novel of the same – which sees a family's Long Island vacation interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout. We close out Dante's In Fer November with a movie that could not be better suited to Black Friday, an anti-capital, anti-consumerist screed with a sharp sense of humour that lands perfectly in that liminal space between Halloween and Christmas. It's 1984's Gremlins, directed by Joe Dante, written by Chris Columbus, and starring Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Hoyt Axton, Frances Lee McCain, Corey Feldman, Dick Miller, Judge Reinhold, Jonathan Banks, and featuring the voices of Howie Mandel and Frank Welker. Like Die Hard, it is perfect Christmas Eve alternative programming, but the movie is such a blast that you can watch it any time of year. It released in fact on June 8th, 1984 -- the very same day as Ghostbusters, as horror comedy was having a moment on that particular Friday. It's a J Mo favourite that Hayley had never seen, and was an easy nomination to be this month's entry into the podcast canon of classic films. Other works discussed in this episode include Fantastic Voyage, Small Soldiers, the concept of comfort movies, Hot Rod, Black Dynamite, Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain, Dark Blue, Run This Town, Nightbreed, Hellraiser, Band of Brothers, Homeland, Dreamcatcher, Plants & Animals, Super Mario RPG, road rage, It's A Wonderful Life, Furby, Back to the Future, Goonies, Super 8, Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, secret nanomachines, and the rom-zom-com trifecta of Life After Beth, Warm Bodies, and Burying The Ex. If you'd like to watch Gremlins along with us before listening to the episode, it's currently streaming in Canada on Crave, Starz and Hollywood Suite at the time of publication. We'll be back next week to kick off A DePalmber to ReMalmber, a three-week series on the films of Brian DePalma, with 1983's Scarface, a film that can currently be found streaming on Netflix, Starz and Amazon Prime in Canada. Find us on Twitter @ADHDDVDpod for the full December release schedule!

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of November 17, 2023. The Trolls are back together as Justin Timberlake leads an N*Sync reunion in digital animated form in “Trolls Band Together.” But fighting for box office dominance is also the “Hunger Games” prequel movie, "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." Also on the big screen is "Next Goal Wins," where Taika Waititi hilariously tells the story of the 2011 American Samoa national soccer team who just wanted to score a goal in a World Cup qualifier. And Horror fans have "Thanksgiving" from director Eli Roth, featuring some over-the-top gore from a guy dressed in a pilgrim costume as he terrorizes Plymouth, MA. Steaming has lots of choices this weekend, including an animated series on Netflix that is the sequel/reboot/continuation of the story started in "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" called "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off," which brings back the entire voice cast from the 2010 movie. SNL fans may get a kick out of the Please Don't Destroy guys in their movie on Peacock TV, "The Treasure of Foggy Mountain." Disney Plus’s "Dashing Through The Snow" sees Ludacris and his 8-year-old daughter trying to help Lil Rel Howrey's Nick recover a lost iPad on Christmas Eve. And Netflix’s "Best. Christmas. EVER!" has Heather Graham and hubby Jason Biggs take their two children to college friend Brandy's house, partly to prove that Brandy's life can't be nearly as great as her yearly Christmas letter makes it seem. Extra fun: It was filmed and set here in Utah! Beyond Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming, and Tech, the brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing the nerdy. Brilliant opinions and commentary on all things geek, but surprising knowledge and witty arguments over pop culture, Star Trek, MARVEL vs. DC, and a wide range of movies, TV shows, and more. Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah’s unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME. Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy have nine new reviews on this episode. They include documentaries about the tragedy of a Harry Potter stunt double (David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived) and another about a forgotten woman's sexuality activist (The Disappearance of Shere Hite). There's a feature about the unsung architect of the March on Washington (Rustin) and another from Taika Waititi about the World Cup team that lost 31-0 (Next Goal Wins). The comedy trio from Saturday Night Live craft their first feature (Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain), Eli Roth crafts a feature out of his Grindhouse trailer (Thanksgiving) and The fuzzy-haired musical creatures are back for their third film (Trolls Band Together). Todd Haynes, Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore team up for a squirmy tale ripped from the tabloids (May December) and may the odds be ever in your favor for a new franchise prequel (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). 0:00 - Intro David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived 11:42 – The Disappearance of Shere Hite 23:42 - Rustin 36:46 - Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain 47:18 - Next Goal Wins 55:27 - May December 1:10:22 - Trolls Band Together 1:18:27 - Thanksgiving 1:34:29 – The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes 1:51:32 – Preview of Next Week / Outro

Jyl Johnson is hanging out this week, as she prepares for a big move overseas! Jyl is selling fantastic pieces of art and memorabilia at her Facebook group “Pieces of Me.” Check it out! We talk about the trailer for Inside Out 2, and the weird experience of being Gen X and Millennials learning to process emotions (and how to raise more emotionally intelligent kids!) In her new song "1988," Kelsey Waldon tells the story of the year she was born in Western Kentucky and what happened after that. What music fans know is that she brought her songs to Nashville and found community among the top emerging figure in East Nashville, including Margo Price and Erin Rae. She's just released her third album and it's special because White Noise/White Lines is a debut for John Prine's Oh Boy Records, part of a renewal of that decades old indie label. He's her songwriting hero, and their relationship is at the core of this conversation. Also in the hour, Raleigh NC writer Tommy Goldsmith talks about his new book, the definitive account of Earl Scruggs and his famous bluegrass instrumental "Foggy Mountain Breakdown."
