Don't worry. Nobody dies in this episode. They just get really big boo-boos.

It's Die Hard in a ghost town! This time week, Phil and Liam throw a bottle in the air and follow it into the desert, as they try to make sense of the dark and brooding action/thriller/western/gangster picture LAST MAN STANDING.During the prohibition era, mysterious gunslinger John Smith (Bruce Willis) rolls into the small, remote border town of Jericho, Texas, where two rival bootlegging gangs have an uneasy and fragile truce. As Smith gets the lay of the land, he works both sides against the other in search of quick profit…until the conscience that he claims he doesn't have, forces him to pick a side.  After comparing the film to the original 1988 classic in the ‘Die Hard DNA' section, the boys discuss their feelings about writer-director-producer Walter Hill and his robust filmography, citing their favorite Hill movies. As this particular film is a credited remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1961 classic YOJIMBO, Liam is in his element waxing lyrical about the Japanese maestro. Phil also espouses his theory that Hill's remake is less of an action movie, and more of an existential exploration of purgatory. The guys also talk about this film's remarkable ensemble cast, that features stellar performances from Walter Hill staples John Patrick Kelly and Bruce Dern, as well as the likes of William Sanderson, Leslie Mann, Ken Jenkins, Michael Imperioli, Karina Lombard and of course Christopher Walken as the Tommy Gun-toting mob enforcer Hickey. Finally, the guys bust into the ‘Die Hard Oscars' to fire off some action movie awards, and Phil slings Liam some tough questions in the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz!LAST MAN STANDING trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=763cIT4IXoQAt the time of release, LAST MAN STANDING is streaming on Tubi in the US and is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple/iTunes, YouTube, Fandango and all the usual platforms! Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/die-hard-on-a-blank/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The term "underrated" get thrown out a lot.  But this film truly encompasses that term.  In "The Cable Guy," a dark comedy directed by Ben Stiller, a lonely and socially awkward cable installer named Chip Douglas, played by Jim Carrey, develops an unhealthy obsession with one of his customers, Steven Kovacs, portrayed by Matthew Broderick. Steven just wants a simple cable installation, but Chip sees an opportunity to fill the void in his life by befriending Steven, despite Steven's reluctance. As Chip's behavior becomes increasingly intrusive and erratic, Steven tries to distance himself, but Chip's relentless pursuit only escalates. Chip inserts himself into Steven's life, disrupting his relationships and manipulating situations to keep Steven dependent on him. Along the way, Chip's troubled past and psychological instability come to light, revealing a deeply disturbed individual beneath his affable facade. The film explores themes of loneliness, obsession, and the blurred boundaries between friendship and manipulation. Carrey's performance as the unhinged Cable Guy is both hilarious and chilling, showcasing his versatility as an actor. "The Cable Guy" serves as a satirical commentary on the pervasiveness of media culture and the dangers of unchecked obsession in a digital age.Friends of the Show1 Man Mafia (twitch.tv/1man_mafia)Jayke The Gamer God (twitch.tv/JaykeTheGamerGod)IB Best Gaming (https://www.tiktok.com/@ibbestgaming)Intro for the shopSupport the show'Beavis and Butt-head' Cover art created by Joe Crawford

Alvaro Rodriguez has been writing since childhood and, in fact, did his best work when he was 11. Without a movie camera in sight, Rodriguez relied on the written word and a Polaroid Button to storyboard the films in his head. A crash course in entertainment writing and editing at the University of Texas student newspaper and seminars in creative writing supplied more tools for the toolbox. When he riffed on a Spanish guitar figure as the hero's musical theme in cousin Robert Rodriguez's debut film, El Mariachi (1992) (Columbia Pictures, 1993), he began a collaboration that has lasted more than two decades.Rodriguez sold his first pitch to Dimension Films, a spaghetti-western prequel to the genre-bending vampire flick From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) called From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (1999) (Miramax/Dimension, 2000), which starred Marco Leonardi, Michael Parks, Sonia Braga, Rebecca Gayheart and Danny Trejo, with Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino producing.Rodriguez co-wrote the wishing-rock children's movie Shorts (2009) (Warner Brothers, 2009), starring James Spader, Jon Cryer, Leslie Mann, and William H. Macy, and followed that confection with the bloodier Machete (2010) (Fox, 2010) starring Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, and Robert De Niro. Both were directed by Robert Rodriguez. As of 2014, he is writing on the television series From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series (2014) for the El Rey Network, now in its second season, and is developing feature and television projects in the United States and Italy.A frequent panelist and presenter at the Austin Film Festival, he has also curated an "Epoca de Oro" Mexican film series at the Museum of South Texas History and has been a speaker at colleges and universities throughout the United States. Co-starring Emma Watson and Leslie Mann, The Bling Ring tells the story of a group of teenagers obsessed with fashion and celebrity that burglarize celebrities' homes in Los Angeles. Tracking their targets' whereabouts online, they break-in and steal their designer clothes and possessions. Reflecting on the naiveté of youth and the mistakes we all make when young, amplified by today's culture of celebrity and luxury brand obsession, we see through the members of the Bling Ring temptations that almost any teenager would feel. What starts out as teenage fun spins out of control and leaves us with a sobering view of our culture today. This conversation was moderated by former Director of the New York Film Festival, Kent Jones. This conversation was sponsored by HBO.

Someone posed us the question "Do they even make good adult comedies anymore?" People think the time of the Ricky Bobbies and the Animal Houses are gone. But that's not true and we recorded a couple episodes to prove that they're still making amazing comedies for adults. So the first one on the block is well....Blockers. Leslie Mann, John Cena, and Ike get together to stop their kids from committing the most horrendous of sins, PRE-MARITAL SEGGS. Will they succeed? Or will they learn a lesson along the way. Gotta watch the movie, then our review to find out. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, mainstream comedies were dominated by just one man: Judd Apatow. As a writer, director, and/or producer, Apatow was behind many of the biggest hits of the era, including classics such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Superbad, Bridesmaids, The Big Sick, and -- as we've previously discussed -- The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Now Kai Yaniz returns to discuss 2007's Knocked Up and its "sort-of sequel," 2012's This Is 40. Apatow wrote and directed both movies, which have a lot to say about parenthood, relationships, and how time affects them. We'll discuss whether these movies still hold up, weigh in on Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd's performances, and reveal our personal connection to them. We'd say we didn't know how badly we needed ParaNorman (2012) on our Spooky Tuesday Pride Month lineup until we saw it, but Sydney definitely did. With everything going on in today's ~*~political climate~*~ (and despite this movie being a decade old), the stop-motion masterpiece feels more timely than ever. It's not just that it was the first animated film to feature a canonically queer character, although it totally was, just FYI. It's also that the whole story challenges viewers to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to the central message that it's OK to be different. If you still need convincing, we'll go ahead and say this: It's cozy horror, babes. Haven't you heard that's all the rage? Both were directed by Robert Rodriguez.]As of 2014, he is writing on the television series From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series (2014) for the El Rey Network, now in its second season, and is developing feature and television projects in the United States and Italy.A frequent panelist and presenter at the Austin Film Festival, he has also curated an "Epoca de Oro" Mexican film series at the Museum of South Texas History and has been a speaker at colleges and universities throughout the United States. His border-influenced short fiction has appeared in multiple publications, both physical and digital, including Mulholland Books/Popcorn Fiction, "Along the River" (2011), and the Bram Stoker Award-winning "After Death" (2013).This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2881148/advertisement

There is surprisingly zero cringe and plenty of actressing from Leslie Mann as his nameless mother, Odeya Rush as his hometown hookup and, of course, the Mother of Tears herself Dakota Johnson, who can do no wrong, ask anyone, ask your producer.
