PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND.We also discuss how Jake turned his childhood cable access show (shot in his bedroom!) into a full-fledged MTV show, getting his hair cut on TV by Kim Gordon, the day Cypress Hill showed up to his bedroom, the difficulties of the MTV show getting cancelled and his struggle with addiction, how the Beatles were less protective of their legacy than we thought, the military aspects of Sgt. Pepper's, how we never noticed the military aspects of Sgt. Pepper's, the legacy of Robert Stigwood's powerhouse career, Grease, Robin Gibb's grandiose delusion that this film's music was going to replace the legacy of The Beatles' original, how this was Steve Martin's film debut, how it felt watching the film as kids, the movie Car Wash, the PG-13 version of Saturday Night Fever, the cult musical film The Apple, the fight scene between Peter Frampton & Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, the incredible Alice Cooper cult leader scene, Sandy Farina as Strawberry Fields, speculating if anyone ever cried watching the film, Xanadu, Billy Preston saving the day, our alternate endings of Sgt. This week, Tommy is joined by actor Luke Macfarlane! Luke has tackled scripted TV, film, Broadway, and now the unscripted world. He is currently hosting and starring in Hallmark+’s home renovation series, HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS, where he is using his impressive wood-working skills to make dreams come true. He recently completed production on the second season of Apple’s PLATONIC, returning in the fan favorite, third-wheel role of Charlie. You also know and love Luke from his breakout role in BROTHERS & SISTERS, starring opposite Billy Eichner in Universal’s romcom BROS, and from 15 beloved Hallmark movies… just to name a few of his credits. Today, Luke opens up about his career highs, why working in television holds a special place in his heart, how he’s now showing the world his passion for wood work, why he wants to keep growing in all different aspects of his career, which superhero he would want to play in a movie, a role he auditioned for that led him to an incredible opportunity he never could have imagined, a franchise that he would jump at the chance to be in, what his relationship with rejection is like, one of the best pieces of advice Seth Rogen ever gave him, why the 40s have given him a new wave of confidence and peace, his journey being an out actor in Hollywood, why he doesn’t mind being asked about being gay, why he is allowing for surprises in life rather than trying to plan everything out, the one thing he hopes his daughter learns at an early age, and so much more. For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Nadia Dalimonte, Josh Parham & Tom O'Brien to review and discuss the latest film from director Barry Jenkins, "Mufasa: The Lion King," starring Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Tiffany Boone, Donald Glover, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, Blue Ivy Carter & Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. We say it's the latest film from Barry Jenkins, but it doesn't look or feel like any of his previous works, as he decided to undertake the sequel to the poorly received but financially successful 2019 remake of "The Lion King." What did we think of Jenkins's direction? Was he able to elevate this material? How did we feel about the visuals, music, and voice performances? The King has returned! Barry Jenkins' Lion King prequel - Mufasa: The Lion King - has released in theaters and I had the chance to check it out just recently. The Lion King is my favorite animated film of all-time but beyond further reflection and pondering, the remake was quite a big letdown that lacked much of the soul and creativity of that original animated film. That's why I was very skeptical about Barry Jenkins' prequel and I wanted nothing more than to be excited about more movies set in the continuity of The Lion King. Barry Jenkins' involvement certainly had my curiosity piqued though. Did the movie win me over, or is this yet another soulless live-action Disney film? Find out in this review! Mufasa: The Lion King: Directed by: Barry Jenkins Screenplay by: Jeff Nathanson Based off the characters created by: Linda Woolverton and Irene Mecchi and Jonathan Roberts Produced by: Mark Ceryak, Adele Romanski, Genevieve Hofmeyr Executive Producer: Peter Tobyansen Music by: Dave Metzger Cinematography by: James Laxton Editing by: Joi McMillon Casting by: Francine Maisler, Molly Rose Production Design by: Mark Friedberg Cast: Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, John Kani, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé Synopsis: Told in flashbacks, Mufasa is an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion a journey of misfits searching for their destiny and working together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.

Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, the film is photorealistically animated, and both a prequel and sequel to the 2019 remake of the 1994 film The Lion King. Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, John Kani, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter reprise their roles from the remake; new cast members include Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, Anika Noni Rose, and Blue Ivy Carter in her feature film debut. Development on a prequel to The Lion King was confirmed in September 2020, with Jenkins attached to direct and Nathanson finishing a draft of the script. Pierre and Harrison Jr. were announced as the voice cast in August 2021, followed by further casting between September 2022 and April 2024. The film was officially announced when its official title was revealed in September 2022 at the 2022 D23 Expo announcement. Production on the film slowed down in July 2023 due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

TO RECAP: As Leslie and the gang face their last day together in Pawnee before everyone goes their own ways, one final little job crosses their path ... fixing a broken swing. Mundane though it may seem, Leslie throws herself into it with her typical level of gusto, convincing the rest of the gang to band together to do this one last task. In the process of going through the necessary motions to get the swing fixed, we do deep dives into every single person, including time jumps into their futures, so we can see how things turned out for them. As always, we tackle the tough questions, such as ... Will they get the swing fixed?  Will everyone get the story they want?  Can Mark and Allen make it through this last episode review?  How many times will Mark break down?  What will the boys do with Robonstantine?  Will we ever hear from Constantine and Harvey again?  What is WITH that stupid f**king Stargate portal and the post-it notes? Everyone ... hold hands, smile, laugh, and be grateful for the good things in life ... of which this series was certainly one.

Congrats, we snagged Billy Eichner for the show! The original King-Of-Chatting-With-People-On-The-Street shows us a thing or two about chatting with people on the street. We zip around Austin on a PBO branded pedicab and meet lots of interesting strangers, including a Dominican musician who uses his music to get lucky, a boss-employee duo from England, and a Scottish patron of the arts who lets random musicians sleep at his house in Scotland. A huge thank you to Patreon for making this special episode possible! Recorded on 3/14/24 at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Support us on Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/podcastbutoutside !
