Redistribution of Legends of the PanelWelcome to Season 5 episode 3 of Legends of the Panel Podcast, Hosted by Mr. Chulak, KJ The Comic Guy and The Lady Archer. On this episode we are missing a Chulak as he prepares for an out of state wedding, so KJ and the Lady Archer are back at it again! After talking about the many movie trailers that were part of that major sporting event where New England and Los Angeles didn't decide to do anything until the last 15 minutes (Yup that's right KJ who writes these notes just blasted the NFL), there was no real consensus on movies that anyone really must see based on the trailers. Everyone knows that Captain Marvel is only a few weeks away, that followed pretty closely by Avengers Endgame. These are both highly anticipated comic book movies, and KJ is still excited about Captain Marvel. Unfortunately not so much for DC's Shazam! What does look good is DC Unlimited and their new Doom Patrol series. This is a resurgence of Brenden Frasier in a pivotal role as Steel. Veteran action star and fan favorite Timothy Dalton as Chief is a great separation for Dalton from recent more "Baddy" roles. Even Cyborg gets a pass in this serial adaptation of the DC Comic series.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. Redistribution of Warp My TardisWelcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode your hosts talk about the hiatus of the last month, and then break right into the new seasons of Seth MacFarlane's The Orville, and the CBS Series, Star Trek: Discovery. At the end of the show, Mr Chulak gives his first impressions of the new Roswell Show on the CW Network. After the usual catch up and banter between your hosts, KJ and Chulak got right into their very enthusiastic reviews of The Orville. So far this season does not disappoint, with episodes that are mildly reminiscent of The Next Generation. We have also seen the first departure of one main character from the show as Lt. Alara Katan played by Halston Sage returns to her home planet Xelayah. This episode ending reminds KJ very much of the loss of Tasha Yar on Next Gen, or Wesley Crusher going off to Starfleet Academy. Both hosts give The Orville ratings in the mid to high 8's There is much to look forward to with this series.CBS All Access brought back the mid-season Star Trek Discovery in January, and the new Captain doesn't disappoint, nor does the existing cast and level of drama and action. Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike is a welcome addition to the shows cast, and we see a great deal of new development for a number of the cast including Doug Jones and Saru, Mary Wiseman as Lt. Tilly, and Sonequa Martin-Green as Micheal Burnham. The show is dealing with the Prime Directive, General Order 1 and Spock in a psychiatric ward, just to name the goings on in the first episode.Definite 9 ratings for this one.In an interesting comparison KJ and Chulak discuss the differences between these two series and why the two of them work so well for viewing audiences, from technology, grit and charisma, to story writing and our interpretation of what each of these series should be. Orville bringing an episodic story with each one being self-contained, versus Discovery with the overarching idea that there is a major story that we will get through, its just going to take the whole season.Mr. Chulak closed the show with a brief overview of the CW's Roswell New Mexico, a time-jump story of the original characters from the Roswell TV series back in the 90's. And sometimes the 90's should just be left alone. The show has moments of brilliant Sci-Fi ideas, but is just too dramatic and Soap-Opera like.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting WarpMyTardis here on the Geek Culturecast network. Welcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode your hosts talk about their two favorite Sci-Fi Series as they come up on their finales. StarTrek Discovery and The Orville. The Orville: Chulak and KJ both agreed that The Orville has really turned a corner this year as it went from a space comedy to a serious space drama series. The stability of the ensemble cast has been key to this success. The early season change from Halston Sage (Lt. Alara Katan) to Jessica Szohr (Lt Talla Ketali) went so smoothly that many of us (us included) have almost completely forgotten Alara’s name. Good story telling and consistent direction have really made The Orville a great fit in season 2 and we are glad that they are already in production for season 3. The season has not disappointed and gets a strong 8.3 rating.Star Trek Discovery: Where the Orville has consistency, Disco does not. The over arc of this season, while a compelling story, has suffered from too many directors (too many cooks spoil the broth) and a lack of continuity, as demonstrated in the first part of the season finale where if you didn’t watch the Star Trek Discovery shorts, you have no idea why Ensign Tilly is so excited when they arrive at the planet Xahea. Looking at the series across the whole season 2, it suffers from a bout of chaos mixed with apathy. Some of the characters are just not essential to the over arc, but seem to have been given stories as homage to TNG or TOS storylines. Even with all of this, and it being a show that when it comes to DVR, it’s okay to wait a day... It still gets a solid 8 or even 8.3Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting WarpMyTardis here on the Geek Culturecast network. Welcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode your hosts talk about the BBC original series Merlin, broadcast in the US and Canada by SyFy Network (US) and Space Channel (CAN) from 2008-2012 Special guest on this episode we are joined by KJ the Comic Girl (also known as Kate-monster)KJ, Kate and Chulak all spoke about their passion for the series, and what they all really liked about it (including KJ’s predisposition for Katie McGrath). In this version of the Arthurian Legend, merlin and Arthur are contemporaries, thrown together where Merlin is coming to grips with his magic, while keeping is hidden in Uther Pendragon’s magicless Camelot. Initially becoming the apprentice to Galius the Court Physician, he saves Arthur from a murder plot by a witch and becomes Arthur’s man-servant.In this first episode we already build strong mentor/student relationships between Galius and Merlin, we also see the brother relationship building between Arthur and merlin. The beginnings of potential love interests of Morgana/Arthur and Gwen/Merlin, which if you have read the legends, we know is doomed to Gwen becoming Arthur’s queen, and Morgana as Merlin’s antithesis. The first two episodes of the first season demonstrate how the series will deal with magic, the beginnings of the political system of the time, as well as the feudal relationships of the serf and the land owners.Reviewing casting, direction, videography, writing and overall production/re-watch value, Chulak, KJ and Kate all give high marks for Merlin with overall ratings in the 8 to 8.5 range. At the end of the show KJ and Mr Chulak talked about recent events at SpaceX and Virgin Galactic as well as developments in the Tesla car market. This lead them back to pure Sci-Fi and an agreement that it is time to revisit both The Orville (returning from Hiatus) and Star trek Discovery both shows having released 12 episodes. Welcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode The Lady Archer joins KJ The Comic Guy to talk about Shadowhunters: The Immortal Instruments which are a book series, a motion picture and a TV series.KJ and the Lady Archer getting together is like a whole lot of encyclopedias and librarians having a tea party. A whole lot of information sharing and sometimes more than you need.Shadowhunters: The Immortal Instruments was written by Cassandra Clare and is the story of Clary Fray’s search for her missing mother leads her into an alternate New York called Downworld, filled with mysterious faeries, hard-partying warlocks, not-what-they-seem vampires, an army of werewolves, and the demons who want to destroy it all. She also finds herself torn between two boys—her best friend, Simon, for whom she’s developing new feelings, and the mysterious Shadowhunter, Jace. She becomes a part of the secret world of the Shadowhunters and as she does, she discovers that rescuing her mother might mean jeopardizing everything the Shadowhunters work for.The Television Series based on this first book primarily as well as portions of the next several books, as Clary and the other Shadowhunters deal with deception, intrigue, espionage, deamons and of course supernatural relations.Unfortunately the original movie which is based only on the first book of the series, while on its own is a stellar example of book to screenplay, does not have the same deapth of character relationships that you get from the Canadian filmed series.Overall ratings for the TV show from KJ an 8.2 and Lady Archer a nice 8.5, and for the movie a 7.0 from KJ and 7.5 from the Lady ArcherThank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting WarpMyTardis here on the Geek Culturecast network. Welcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode your hosts talk about the SyFy Network (US) and Space Channel (CAN) series from 2015-2017 Dark Matter.Right from the beginning KJ and Chulak are completely enthralled with Dark Matter, there was talk about what made the series memorable, as well as KJ expanded on how Television Production works in Canada, and why most Canadian TV only gets 3 seasons. The original story is that the six-person crew of a derelict spaceship awakens from stasis in the farthest reaches of space. Their memories wiped clean, they have no recollection of who they are or how they got on board. The only clue to their identities is a cargo bay full of weaponry and a destination: a remote mining colony that is about to become a war zone. With no idea whose side they are on, they face a deadly decision. Will these amnesiacs turn their backs on history, or will their pasts catch up with them? One of the nice things about Dark matter was that the costuming, and off-ship scenic were all done in a time frame that allowed for modern materials and styles. No need for over the top creation of costumes and uniforms. Even the uniforms that are part of the show can be found at most police and paramedic tactical supply shops. This allowed the money to be spent on a believable interstellar ship and interior. This is possibly the thing that KJ appreciated most.Overall ratings from KJ an 8.4 and Mr Chulak a flat 8.0On another note, KJ talked about the Tana-Reef Foundation and the work of founder Chris Campana. Chris is an independent comic creator, cover artist, and also very good friend of the show. As part of Chris’ efforts with the not-for-profit organization created in memory of his new born son and fiancé who were both lost due to complications, Chris has commissioned a statue of “Gi-Gantic” Parker’s protector in the afterlife. This limited edition statue is available for pre-order at Chris’ website campanaart.org. We encourage everyone to check out the Foundation and show your support. At the end of the show KJ and Mr Chulak re-visited several shows to identify what next episode will be, and decided on the BBC Series Merlin to get back to our Fantasy roots. After the show ended KJ and Mr Chulak remembered that Mr Chulak will be on hiatus for the next two weeks as he hikes the Appalachian Trail, so KJ will be asking The lady Archer to join him on our next episode of WarpMyTardis to review ShadowHunters: The Mortal instruments, the paranormal series based on the books by Cassandra Clare (titled "The Mortal Instruments")Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting WarpMyTardis here on the Geek Culturecast network. Welcome to Season 5 episode 3 of Legends of the Panel Podcast, Hosted by Mr. Welcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode your hosts talk about the recently released MIB International Trailer, and of course the nostalga of the 1997 Men in Black with Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith.Mr. Chulak started us off with a bit of embarrassing memories of his fifth grade talent show and performing the MIB dance on stage (followed by the first 20 seconds of the original Will Smith Men in Black youtube video). The two hosts then jump into how MIB did as a film, what other films MIB went up against (like Dante’s Peak, Austin Powers, and Jurassic Park Lost World). It was no wonder that Rotten Tomatoes has a 92 for the tomatometer, and only 79% for the audience scoreThe original story is that an intergalactic assassin infiltrates earth in order to kill the embassador of a competing planet and destroy the universe that can be found on Orion’s belt…. The collar of the Ambassador’s cat. An elite, highly funded government organization recruits Will Smith (Agent J) and opens his eyes to an entire world that interacts within our own.The special effects were stellar and, not only the effects, but the props, costumes and prosthetics were amazing. Knowing that the comic license belongs to Marvel long before the Disney/Marvel universe, and that Sony Pictures owns the movie rights, it is no wonder that this movie did so well, .and that there is the potential for this new re-boot to do just as well. After viewing the new trailer, KJ and Mr Chulak reviewed the potential of Tessa Thompson (Thor Ragnarok), Chris Hemsworth (Avengers, Thor), Liam Nieson (Star Wars, Batman Begins) and Emma Thompson (Nanny McFee, Harry Potter) as the main and supporting cast of this film. It is going to be an epic summer film releasing June 14At the end of the show KJ and Mr Chulak re-visited several shows to identify what next episode will be, and decided on Lost Giel, a Showtime Canada/Netflx series. The show ran for 5 seasons from 2010 through 2015. The crew will be focusing on Season one episode one..Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting WarpMyTardis here on the Geek Culturecast network. Welcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak.
