Check out Broadswords magazine at http://dmdave.com/broadsword-magazine-1-pre-order/After a stumbled start where KJ mis-read if we were recording, we have take-2 and hilarity ensues as Lady Archer opens a beverage across her computer. KJ and Chulak talk about Joaquin Phoenix and The Joker, which gets big thumbs up (9/10) from Mr Chulak. He does say however this is not a family friendly filmDC has started the fall TV line up with strong starts for Batwoman, which is unfortunately getting panned, Supergirl (meowerr Katie McGrath!!) and this week launches of Flash and Arrow. Next week we get the first episode for Legends of Tomorrow (or the Legends of misfit Toys) and then there are the multitude of announcements this week for Crisis, including a lot of set shots including Burt Ward (Batman ’66) wearing the trademark Red shirt with green black and gold trim walking… Ace the Batdog! Add in a Terry McGuiness appearance and my day will be complete! So much good content coming from DC right now is to counterbalance the summer movie blockbuster of Marvel’s Endgame followed so closely by Sony with Spiderman Far from Home. Its being a great year for comic book fans. But speaking of Comic Books, we want to congratulate friend of the show Chris Campana on the two new book gigs picked up at NYCC. Welcome to Warp My Tardis Podcast on the Geek Culturecast network. Check out Broadswords magazine at http://dmdave.com/broadsword-magazine-preorder-1/KJ and Chulak are back after a quick missed episode/break and there is a ton of news to share about the D23 Conference, especially about Star Wars as two series were announced: The Mandalorian and KenobiThe Mandalorian is about Bounty Hunters, and takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. In the teaser, we see IG-88 and Lando Calrissian among other known figures like storm troopers and rebel fighters. Not a lot is given away in the trailer other than lots of fighting, shooting up Imperials and possibly meeting up with new crime lords. There is a lot of circumstantial footage here. Who is the one under the armor, and why do they want to look like Bobba Fett? The Kenobi series is a greater concern. Taking place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, this series goes through the hidden life of a Jedi on the run. The show looks good, and with Ewan McGregor back in the Obi-Wan role it has the opportunity to be something good. We just hope that they don’t take the story down a path that can’t be recovered from in the world of Star Wars CanonWe didn’t go deeply into the extended teaser trailer for Episode IX, but there is a ton of speculations there too related to the last scene with Rey and her double red sabres. Is this a force dream? A dark path like Luke travelled facing his own Dark Side? Or is this truly Rey’s turn toward a path that she cannot come back from? We will have to wait until December 20 to find out.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Warp My Tardis here on the Geek Culturecast network. Welcome to Warp My Tardis Podcast on the Geek Culturecast network. KJ raised the upcoming preparations for the next Mars Lander. JPL has had a ton of streaming coverage. Watch live as it is happening and that is a great thing as part of our modern world.Chulak introduced a documentary created by one man and his telescope, about how he went out and recorded the reactions of average people rediscovering the moon by telescope. A New Way to look at the moon is 3 minutes and change and is available on YouTube (Link at the end of the show notes) and has already begun to receive awards in the short film and documentary categories. This week in Dublin Ireland is WorldCon, the World Science Fiction Convention. The increasing world of robotics, integrated AI’s and the possibility of robots with empathy being your perfect partner… in every way. This lead into a conversation about the differences between the World’s Fair and todays massive glut of conventions. There are so many conventions that it isn’t a unique experience anymore. On another topic, Mattel and their Barbie brand are now embracing the world of Cosplay through a new series of dolls. This first set are iconic Star Wars characters reimagined in the world of cosplay, like R2-D2 dress, and a very interesting take on Darth Vader. These are definitely not your little sister’s Barbies!Onto video and series being watched, KJ and Chulak also waxed on about Netflix and how they now spend much more time on Amazon Prime and other streaming services rather than on Netflix. The big mentions to watch are:•Amazon Prime : Good Omens – Neil Gaimon and Terry Pratchett’s book on good and evil•Amazon Prime: Quiet Earth – When an experiment goes wrong, a scientist is the last man on earth and we journey with him as his mind breaks down•Amazon Prime: Eureka – Sheriff takes a job in a bubble world where everyone deals with the secret world of Science Fiction•Netflix: Another Life – Katie Sackoff leads a CW all-star team in a deep space missionAlso on the show we talked about several KickStarter Projects. Broadsword is a monthly digital and printed magazine that provides DMs with ideas, tidbits and even complete side quests that can be fit into almost any campaign. Check out Broadswords magazine at http://dmdave.com/broadsword-magazine-preorder-1/On Legends of the Panel last week (Season 5, episode 14) we talked about the Comic Book announcements from San Diego ComicCon 2019. This week we address the SciFi announcements.Let’s start with Fox and the announcement that The Orville, the Seth Macfarlane Sci-Fi show paying homage to classic Star Trek: The Next Generation, will be moving from Fox Television to Hulu for season 3. Macfarlane made the announcement that due to other commitments, that to provide the show with the integrity that he wants, that Hulu makes more sense as a delivery method. No mention was made for international audiences on how the move to Hulu will affect them. KJ hopes that CRAVE TV will continue to host HULU content in Canada.CBS All Access hosted several events including two specific Star Trek announcements. One being the launch of Season 3 for STD… I mean Star Trek; Discovery. Now having followed the Red Angel 700 years into the future, we really don’t know what we are going to get with STD. New characters are coming onto the cast, but we are really left with the unknown a as the antique Discovery needs to find its place in what may be a dystopian future… or maybe not. What we do know is that they are indeed in the PICARD timeline.Speaking of Picard, the full trailer for the new Star Trek: Picard series looked fantastic. A combination of shows like Dark matter, Deep Six and FarScape as well as the traditional Star trek universe, and we now know at least 4 characters we love from the original TNG. Ryker and Troi are still matrimonius (is that a real word?) as well we now know that Commander Data and Seven of Nine have made their way to the new future. We can’t wait until late 2020 for this one. Also on the show we talked about several KickStarter Projects. Redistribution of Warp My TardisWelcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode your hosts talk about the hiatus of the last month, and then break right into the new seasons of Seth MacFarlane's The Orville, and the CBS Series, Star Trek: Discovery. At the end of the show, Mr Chulak gives his first impressions of the new Roswell Show on the CW Network. After the usual catch up and banter between your hosts, KJ and Chulak got right into their very enthusiastic reviews of The Orville. So far this season does not disappoint, with episodes that are mildly reminiscent of The Next Generation. We have also seen the first departure of one main character from the show as Lt. Alara Katan played by Halston Sage returns to her home planet Xelayah. This episode ending reminds KJ very much of the loss of Tasha Yar on Next Gen, or Wesley Crusher going off to Starfleet Academy. Both hosts give The Orville ratings in the mid to high 8's There is much to look forward to with this series.CBS All Access brought back the mid-season Star Trek Discovery in January, and the new Captain doesn't disappoint, nor does the existing cast and level of drama and action. Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike is a welcome addition to the shows cast, and we see a great deal of new development for a number of the cast including Doug Jones and Saru, Mary Wiseman as Lt. Tilly, and Sonequa Martin-Green as Micheal Burnham. The show is dealing with the Prime Directive, General Order 1 and Spock in a psychiatric ward, just to name the goings on in the first episode.Definite 9 ratings for this one.In an interesting comparison KJ and Chulak discuss the differences between these two series and why the two of them work so well for viewing audiences, from technology, grit and charisma, to story writing and our interpretation of what each of these series should be. Orville bringing an episodic story with each one being self-contained, versus Discovery with the overarching idea that there is a major story that we will get through, its just going to take the whole season.Mr. Chulak closed the show with a brief overview of the CW's Roswell New Mexico, a time-jump story of the original characters from the Roswell TV series back in the 90's. And sometimes the 90's should just be left alone. The show has moments of brilliant Sci-Fi ideas, but is just too dramatic and Soap-Opera like.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting WarpMyTardis here on the Geek Culturecast network. Redistribution of Legends of the PanelWelcome to Season 5 episode 3 of Legends of the Panel Podcast, Hosted by Mr. Chulak, KJ The Comic Guy and The Lady Archer. On this episode we are missing a Chulak as he prepares for an out of state wedding, so KJ and the Lady Archer are back at it again! After talking about the many movie trailers that were part of that major sporting event where New England and Los Angeles didn't decide to do anything until the last 15 minutes (Yup that's right KJ who writes these notes just blasted the NFL), there was no real consensus on movies that anyone really must see based on the trailers. Everyone knows that Captain Marvel is only a few weeks away, that followed pretty closely by Avengers Endgame. These are both highly anticipated comic book movies, and KJ is still excited about Captain Marvel. Unfortunately not so much for DC's Shazam! What does look good is DC Unlimited and their new Doom Patrol series. This is a resurgence of Brenden Frasier in a pivotal role as Steel. Veteran action star and fan favorite Timothy Dalton as Chief is a great separation for Dalton from recent more "Baddy" roles. Even Cyborg gets a pass in this serial adaptation of the DC Comic series.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. This week on Legends of the Panel, The long weekend is over and Mr. Chulak has carpet!.Everyone is back! It’s the week after the fourth of July, and with the long weekend past, that means new movies came out for the summer, including the long awaited and highly anticipated Spider-Man Far from Home.Okay lets be serious for a moment, until we saw Tom Holland as Spider-Man, the thought of another Spider-man Franchise was incredibly un-exhilarating. Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield both left us with wanting better from the web-slinger, and for most of us we were disenchanted.Tom Holland makes Spider-Man work. With just the right level of snarky mixed with a bit of the bumbling teen, Tom Holland brings a more believable version of the wall-crawler. This along with the last cameo appearance by Stan Lee, and you have a film that really closes the door on the marvel Phase 3 universe.Another big topic on the show is the upcoming season of shows from CW Network, specifically the last season of Arrow (Stephen Amell has begun the string of twitter posts for the filming of the last season), More Flash, with or without re-casting and departures of characters, and Legends of Tomorrow continuing to knock it out of the park! Concerns over the resent purchase of Time Warner Entertainment by telecom conglomerate AT&T leads us to worry about the future of CW series though. At the end of the show KJ talked very briefly about our new sponsor Broadsword Magazine. Right now DM Dave is bringing Broadsword magazine to the masses. If you are a D&D player or GM and looking for side adventures for your campaign, this is the place to go! DM Dave continues to produce a ton of new 5e and OGL material that you can get every month by subscribing to Broadsword, or just buy one issue. Available in both physical and digital copy, just go to https://dmdave.com/broadsword-magazine-preorder-1/Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. This week on Legends of the Panel, Everyone is back! Chulak is still in boxes and had to hold his mic for the whole show. The main topic of this episode was bringing Chulak up to speed on all the things he’s missed in the world. The DC world exploding, and the end of Vertigo. This week DC announced that they were absorbing the Vertigo label back into the main DC label along with two other imprints being Zoom and Ink, this is part of a restructuring to create DC, DC Kids and DC Black Label. This also coincided with DC executive decision to withdraw completely from Sand Diego ComicCon this year, leaving the major marketing efforts for new WB/CW shows like Batwoman, and the DCU movies WonderWoman 1984 and Aquaman2 hanging. Taking up their space in Hall H though as a last minute change of heart, Marvel Studios will have a huge presence. Disney/Marvel seem to be ready to fully rollout Phase 4, and we’ve already seen lots of leaked footage from the Black Widow solo film. Yay Scarlet Johansen! We also talked about the re-release of Avenger’s Endgame with additional footage to take a knock at James Cameron’s ego… sorry box office record for Avatar. We ended the show by talking about what Netflix, CW and other streaming properties that are coming in the fall. Big winners are more Legends of Tomorrow, Season 2 of Domo Patrol and Titans as well as new series Batwoman.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. This week on Legends of the Panel, Lady Archer and KJ meet and discuss Pride month and the impact of LGBTQ+ characters and creators on the comics world. From Batwoman to Catman. From Harley Quinn to Wonder Woman, and from Iceman to Painkiller Jane there are a number of characters in both the Marvel and DC universes who provide sexual diversity to today’s comic book roster. But it was not always this way. As KJ and the Lady Archer discuss, it was taboo to even bring the topic forward as late as 1981 under conservative editors and organizations like the Comics Code Authority. There may have been ambiguity in the past, but it was never explicitly stated… until the late 80’s and early 90’s.Characters like X-Men’s Northstar, and more recently Iceman, Silver Surfer, Deadpool, Apollo and even Hercules all have presented different aspects of the LGBTQ community in Comics, just to name a few.An even larger influence is that of creators who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and who represent an amazing talent of writers, artists and other creators. Phil Jimenez (Wonder Woman), Noel Stevenson (LumberJanes), Kieron Gillen (Wicked + Divine) just to name a few.We can’t thank them enough for bringing new perspectives to comic books, and wish them all continued success.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. This week on the show Mr Chulak is away to celebrate his Birthday! Welcome to Season 5 Episode 9 of Warp my Tardis Podcast. Tonight KJ and the Lady Archer get right to it. It’s been more than 2 weeks so prepare yourselves and Assemble!!! Its time for Avengers Endgame: The spoiler cast.We jumped right into things tonight. We talked about the scenes that made us cheer, and the ones that made us cry. We talked about great loss in the form of Black Widow and Tony Stark, and in the joy of gaining a new and bright future full of speculation for Marvel as Phase 4 begins. Both KJ and the Lady Archer gave the movie 9’s for effects, costuming and overall beauty, but the story falls shorter at 8.3.We then talked for some time about Dark Phoenix which if the movie reflects the trailer, is far different than what we saw in the first trailer. Something worth watching now. Also we reviewed the Spider-man Far From Home trailer. This is possibly the first Spider-man movie that Lady Archer and KJ want to go see in theatres. KJ Also shared upcoming convention news in that Gail Simone is making an appearance in Toronto for FanExpo this summer along with Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, and from Blade Runner/Ladyhawke – Rutger Hauer. More creators and special guests are being added weekly to the Fan Expo lineup.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. This week on the show Mr Chulak has gone off to watch Avengers: Endgame before the rest of us so instead of sulking, Lady Archer and KJ bash the heck out of him and then discuss DC Unlimited’s Doom Patrol (or as KJ calls it the resurrection of Brendan Frasier’s career) and how although there are likeable characters in the show, it just doesn’t seem to have the power it needs, or a cohesive story to get to season 2.Outside of this we make a comparison of most ensemble casts to D&D parties, and spend a large amount of time talking about what we hope Disney will do and be with their new streaming service, rather than what they will likely be.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. Welcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode your hosts talk about their two favorite Sci-Fi Series as they come up on their finales. StarTrek Discovery and The Orville. The Orville: Chulak and KJ both agreed that The Orville has really turned a corner this year as it went from a space comedy to a serious space drama series. The stability of the ensemble cast has been key to this success. The early season change from Halston Sage (Lt. Alara Katan) to Jessica Szohr (Lt Talla Ketali) went so smoothly that many of us (us included) have almost completely forgotten Alara’s name. Good story telling and consistent direction have really made The Orville a great fit in season 2 and we are glad that they are already in production for season 3. The season has not disappointed and gets a strong 8.3 rating.Star Trek Discovery: Where the Orville has consistency, Disco does not. The over arc of this season, while a compelling story, has suffered from too many directors (too many cooks spoil the broth) and a lack of continuity, as demonstrated in the first part of the season finale where if you didn’t watch the Star Trek Discovery shorts, you have no idea why Ensign Tilly is so excited when they arrive at the planet Xahea. Looking at the series across the whole season 2, it suffers from a bout of chaos mixed with apathy. Some of the characters are just not essential to the over arc, but seem to have been given stories as homage to TNG or TOS storylines. Even with all of this, and it being a show that when it comes to DVR, it’s okay to wait a day... It still gets a solid 8 or even 8.3Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting WarpMyTardis here on the Geek Culturecast network. This week on the show, it’s another week with all hands on deck! Chulak and Lady Archer talk about seeing Shazam! And that DC may have got it right this time. They are demonstrating that their new single character titles may have what it takes to go up against marvel, or at least hold their own. We then talked about Dynamite Entertainment HellBoy reboot, and a respectable but problematic first weekend. After talking about our excitement (or KJ’s lack thereof) for Game of Thrones, we all watched the Star Wars trailer which dropped on Friday, including the maniacal laughter of Sir Iain McDermid as Lord Palpetine.KJ ended the show talking about “The Girl with No Name” a 1-shot comic kickstarter that is nearing completion.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting Legends of the Panel here on the Geek Culturecast network. Welcome to Season 4 of WarpMyTardis Podcast, Hosted by KJ The Comic Guy and Mr Chulak. On this episode your hosts talk about the BBC original series Merlin, broadcast in the US and Canada by SyFy Network (US) and Space Channel (CAN) from 2008-2012 Special guest on this episode we are joined by KJ the Comic Girl (also known as Kate-monster)KJ, Kate and Chulak all spoke about their passion for the series, and what they all really liked about it (including KJ’s predisposition for Katie McGrath). In this version of the Arthurian Legend, merlin and Arthur are contemporaries, thrown together where Merlin is coming to grips with his magic, while keeping is hidden in Uther Pendragon’s magicless Camelot. Initially becoming the apprentice to Galius the Court Physician, he saves Arthur from a murder plot by a witch and becomes Arthur’s man-servant.In this first episode we already build strong mentor/student relationships between Galius and Merlin, we also see the brother relationship building between Arthur and merlin. The beginnings of potential love interests of Morgana/Arthur and Gwen/Merlin, which if you have read the legends, we know is doomed to Gwen becoming Arthur’s queen, and Morgana as Merlin’s antithesis. The first two episodes of the first season demonstrate how the series will deal with magic, the beginnings of the political system of the time, as well as the feudal relationships of the serf and the land owners.Reviewing casting, direction, videography, writing and overall production/re-watch value, Chulak, KJ and Kate all give high marks for Merlin with overall ratings in the 8 to 8.5 range. At the end of the show KJ and Mr Chulak talked about recent events at SpaceX and Virgin Galactic as well as developments in the Tesla car market. This lead them back to pure Sci-Fi and an agreement that it is time to revisit both The Orville (returning from Hiatus) and Star trek Discovery both shows having released 12 episodes. Time to compare and contrast our favorite new properties.Thank you for downloading, subscribing, listening and supporting WarpMyTardis here on the Geek Culturecast network.
