In this episode of The Jess Larsen Show on Innovation & Leadership, Jess sits down with JP Newman, CEO of Thrive FP and founder of Fulfillionaire, for a powerful conversation about success, money, meaning, and what happens after you finally achieve the life you thought would make you happy. JP shares his unconventional path from Sony Pictures and family entertainment to building a real estate platform with more than $2 billion in transactions, and how his early struggles shaped the way he thinks about leadership, risk, and responsibility. But the heart of this conversation goes far beyond real estate. JP opens up about what he calls “the net worth trap,” the shift from chasing money to fearing the loss of it, and why so many successful people still feel anxious, unfulfilled, or stuck after reaching major financial milestones. He explains the five dimensions of wealth behind Fulfillionaire, including prosperity, purpose, people, presence, and play, and why true wealth must support a life of meaning, connection, joy, and service. Jess and JP also explore philanthropy, faith, giving, and the responsibility that comes with managing other people's money. JP shares the story behind Veritas Impact Partners, his nonprofit created to support residents in workforce housing communities with services like telemedicine, mental health support, financial education, and tutoring. This is a deeply human episode about redefining success, using money as a tool instead of a scoreboard, and building a life where wealth leads to freedom, generosity, and fulfillment. In 2014, Sony Pictures Entertainment sparked an international diplomatic crisis when it announced its latest comedy, which they called “The Interview.” Starring Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Randall Park as a parodied version of North Korea's Supreme Leader, Kim Jong-Un, the film features a slapstick plotline where a couple of bumbling journalists are recruited by the CIA to assassinate the reclusive dictator. But when the teaser for the flick hit the internet, the real life hostile foreign power was not amused. North Korea spent the ensuing months issuing threats of violence and terrorist attacks. And then, just a month before the film's scheduled release, the hermit kingdom successfully hacked Sony's computer servers, publishing damaging information for anyone to access on the internet. So in this episode of Lead Balloon, we speak with Michael Lynton, who was the CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment at the time, and ultimately gave the film the green light for production. We discuss the public relations fallout from the hack, how he set about rebuilding the company's reputation, and WHY he even chose to launch that project--a mistake he still feels is the biggest he's made in a long entertainment industry career. In this episode of the Film Ireland podcast, Gemma Creagh catches up with writer/director David Gleeson ahead of the release of his semi-autobiographical feature Once Upon a Time in a Cinema. Growing up in a family-run cinema, he was immersed in the magic of the big screen...an influence that continues to shape his work today. He talks about his unusual start in the industry (including working in oil exploration in the Arctic Circle) and how he made the transition to selling scripts in the US.Listen now on SoundCloud, Apple, Spotify, Acast and Amazon, or subscribe to Film Ireland wherever you get your podcasts. You can listen on SoundCloud, Apple, Spotify, Acast and Amazon, or watch the original video recording here: https://www.filmireland.net/podcast-director-writer-david-gleeson-once-upon-a-time-in-a-cinemaA dramatic night at the movies meets a powerful love letter to the cinema experience in Once Upon a Time in a Cinema, the new feature from acclaimed filmmaker David Gleeson (Tolkien, Don't Go, The Front Line, Cowboys & Angels). Set over the course of one eventful evening in a cinema in 1980s Ireland, a cinema owner wrestles with the legacy of the past and the challenges of the future in a drama that is funny, wise and rings of authenticity. Featuring a blend of some of Ireland's most-respected actors and exciting new talent, Once Upon a Time in a Cinema, is set over one night at the movies - where the plot twists offscreen are as surprising as any of those onscreen. Renowned Irish actor Colin Morgan (Belfast, Merlin) plays Earl Clancy, the manager of a small-town cinema who is firefighting the Friday night from hell while mulling over the sale of his cinema to a shady politician. Like James Stewart in It's a Wonderful Life, his journey leads him to realise his value to the community. Once Upon a Time in a Cinema is in cinemas 1st May 2026.David GleesonBorn to a family of Irish cinema-owners who opened their first theater in 1942, David grew up steeped in all things celluloid. Following a colourful and varied path, including a 5-year stint in oil exploration deep inside the Arctic Circle, Gleeson made his feature film debut as a writer/director with 2003's Cowboys & Angels. A youth comedy/drama set in his native Limerick, Cowboys & Angels was released in cinemas by Buena Vista International (Disney). The film won eight international film awards including Best Screenplay at Newport Beach (U.S.) and two Gold Medal Awards at Giffoni (Italy). The New York Times commented, [the film] 'offers a fresh mix of open-minded intelligence and a heartfelt point of view,' while The Chicago Tribune commented, 'Stack "Cowboys" against most of the fare American studios offer young adults and it's meatier by far'. Gleeson's next film which he also wrote and directed, the crime drama The Front Line, was released in cinemas in 2006 also through Buena Vista Intl. In 2008, Gleeson sold his time travel sci-fi spec screenplay The End of History to Sony Pictures. He followed this up over the next decade with several more spec sales and commissions to studios including Walt Disney Pictures, Fox Searchlight, Focus Features, 20th Century Fox, Mattel Studios and Paramount Pictures. In July 2017, Gleeson wrote and directed Don't Go starring Stephen Dorff and Melissa George. In May 2019, Fox Searchlight Pictures released Tolkien, a Chernin Entertainment production based on Gleeson's original screenplay about the legendary author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien. Now, the semi-autobiographical Once Upon a Time in a Cinema is about to hit cinemas. Gleeson continues to work in wildly different genres and is currently in preproduction on a musical comedy called Violence, Foul Language and Scenes of a Sexual Nature.Over the years, the podcast has featured acclaimed guests such as Phyllida Lloyd, Lenny Abrahamson, M. Things are quiet recently. It feels like we're waiting for something to pop-off; some new announcements, or tantalizing rumors, or whatever. We have a little of that this week, though -- perhaps as usual -- it's good news mixed-up with a few questionable items. Let's start with PS5 sales, which picked up substantially in the days leading up to the hardware's global price increase. We then move into the surreptitious release of once-hidden Grand Theft Auto Online numbers, which shows a game still making around $10 million a week, with around two-thirds of its playerbase on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Then, we get into first and second party fare: More details about the unannounced (but heavily rumored) Faye-driven God of War spinoff, casting and performance capture details for Hideo Kojima's PHYSINT, word of a Bloodborne animated feature in the works, and a Metal Gear Solid film, too, both being steered by Sony Pictures. And did Insomniac's Spider-Man 3 get leaked, too? Inquiries from the audience help us round things out, as always. Why is PlayStation 2 Colin's least-favorite Sony console? Is there room for the point-and-click adventure genre in modern gaming? Will Xbox really go back down the path of exclusivity? Bloodborne movie with Jacksepticeye producing just dropped -- Sony Pictures announced at CinemaCon 2026 that an R-rated animated feature adaptation of FromSoftware's gothic nightmare is officially in the works from PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation, with the Irish YouTuber who's called it his all-time favorite game jumping in as co-producer to "make this the best Bloodborne adaptation possible." Yeah after 11 years of nothing but PC port teases and radio silence we're finally getting a full horror flick instead of more vague promises -- no director, cast or release date yet but the guy's 30+ million subs and marathon playthroughs mean at least one person in the room actually gets why hunters dream of the hunt. Sony didn't wait long to release the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer we've all been craving and oh, how it delivered! Unsurprisingly, the trailer now holds the record for the most-watched ever, garnering 718.6 million views in a 24-hour period. The new film shows Peter Parker banding together with familiar characters such as Bruce Banner and Frank Castle while he anonymously serves New York City as Spider-Man. Let's not delay - who wants to take a bite out of this big apple first? It's a three-for-one MCU week, with the announcement that a second season of Wonder Man is beginning production, and a title plus release date for the Punisher special presentation. Today, the film studio let us know that the Punisher tv special will be called “One Last Kill,” and is set to drop on May 12 the week after the finale of Daredevil: Born Again season two. So much here to bite off, what are we chewing on the most?Remember how all we can do is rave about Project Hail Mary? Well the box office agrees, as the Ryan Gosling-led film opened to $141 million globally last weekend, with $80.6 of that being domestic. In the era of sequel-verse, Hail Mary rivals only Oppenheimer for being the other film to pass this kind of benchmark that isn't a continuation of a franchise. This move sets up Paramount as the favorite to acquire Netflix with no real competitor left in the field. The Ellison family has made an extended political push, as well as a financial push to raise the offer enough to secure the chance to purchase the studio and all the intellectual property included. Netflix is also expected to walk away with a $2.8 billion dollar termination fee, paid by Paramount. On an investor call on Monday, David Ellison confirmed that eventually, HBOMax and Paramount+ will merge into one streaming platform.‘Twas two weeks before the Oscars and during awards season, Sinners took a surprise award home and we don't care for what reason! JJ Nelson is a Michigan native who, as a kid, made schlocky home movies with his best friend. He then built his comedic chops as an editor of his high school newspaper, writing irreverent Onion-inspired articles mocking the establishment. Somehow, he got away with all of it, diploma in hand. JJ honed his writing skills as an undergrad at the University of Michigan before earning an MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA's renowned School of Theater, Film, and TV, where he also received the prestigious Samuel Goldwyn Award for screenwriting. He interned at Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions, where he met a number of comedy titans he's since gone on to work with.JJ has had projects either set up or in development with Sony Pictures, Paramount Insurge, Di Boneventura Pictures, Broken Road, Green Hat, Virgin, and Jake Paul's Team 10. Ultimately none of them got made, which is, truth be told, exactly like 99% of every other screen project in Hollywood. But one of them did! The film, Bad Man, an action/comedy starring Seann William Scott, Johnny Simmons, Rob Riggle, Lovi Poe, and Chance Perdomo in his final screen performance, was released in the fall of 2025, earning JJ his first produced feature film writing credit.I've seen Bad Man and can tell you it's an offbeat, dark, action-comedy with heart and a clever twist at the end.For the record, JJ and I have known one another for more than 15 years as we attended the UCLA MFA in Screenwriting Program at the same time.

Michael landed the lead role of Tom Robinson in the first Off-Broadway adaptation of To Kill A Mockingbird, starring opposite Tony Award Winner George Grizzard. Shortly after, Michael began landing jobs in commercials and guest starring roles on television shows and films; he eventually left teaching and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career full-time.Before long, Michael would go on to guest star on such hit television shows as Saved by the Bell, Martin, NYPT Bue, and CSI.
