It's Friday, November 21st, and Norm Hitzges is just wondering if this might actually be the perfect time for the Cowboys to catch the Eagles. With All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson sidelined and the Philly offensive line suddenly mortal, Norm digs into just how much one lineman has meant to a franchise that's gone 96–41 with him and 12–23 without him. He walks through the Eagles' strange season: a defense that grew up faster than expected, an offense stuck in the mud, whispers about Jalen Hurts, and yet a ridiculous 51–14 record with Hurts under center since 2022. Then Norm turns his attention back home: the Cowboys sitting at 4-5-1, a brutal three-game gauntlet of Eagles, Chiefs, and Lions on deck, and Vegas setting the over/under for Dallas wins at just 6.5. Is there really a playoff run in there, or is this just another year of “maybe next time”? Along the way, you'll hear from show partners Fluent Financial, Bob's Steak & Chop House, and Full Moon Healing Balm, and get the full Norm treatment: perspective, numbers, and just enough optimism to keep you watching on Sunday. The 94 WIP Midday Show are previewing the matchup between the Eagles and the Cowboys this Sunday. Joe Giglio is nervous that the Eagles may be in for a trap game. The Eagles are notoriously bad without Lane Johnson, who will not play with a foot injury. Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has a strong record at home against NFC East opponents. Divisional games are never an easy task, and this one will be no different for the Eagles.
In hour 1, the 94 WIP Midday Show debate whether or not the Eagles are in for a trap game against the Cowboys on Sunday. Joe Giglio thinks it is, pointing to Lane Johnson's absence and Dak Prescott's impressive home NFC East record as reason. Hugh Douglas does not think that it is a trap game, but admits that the team has been very dysfunctional this season. He says that winning is the bottom line, but the team still has to be better. The Cowboys are a much different team from when they last played the Eagles in week 1, and their offense has been extremely strong this season. It will be a big test for an Eagles defense that has dominated teams in recent games.
The Eagles continue to win football games no matter how it looks, akin to the McNabb teams that just got it done. The difference is, this group has a Lombardi already. At 8-2, holding tiebreakers over every legitimate NFC contender, they head to Dallas for a divisional showdown on Sunday with a Cowboys team clinging to their proverbial Playoff life. After two weeks playing tough football in the elements at Lambeau and Lincoln Financial Field, the Eagles will suit up in a controlled environment at Jerry World, with their defense playing the best ball of the season, and an offense which has been battered and verbally assualted all week long, by the media, fans, and former players. The Jalen Hurts degradation persists despite him holding the highest passer rating among NFL Starting QBs on 3rd down, against the blitz, and subsequently posting the best TD/INT ratio in the NFL. Hurts does not make many mistakes that cost the team possessions and in his tenure, the team is 32-0 when they win the turnover battle in games he starts and finishes. Undefeated. The Sixers have promise and some depth, but they are not Championship contenders. The team is clearly Tyrese Maxey's team now, fresh off the heels of a 54-point performance in Milwaukee. A.J. Brown might have been wrong. The Eagles' offense isn't just a "s--- show;" it's looking way worse. But enough about that side of the field, at least for now . The reason why the Eagles' path to the playoffs remains promising is because their defense has been lights out, increasingly so since the team returned from the bye two games ago. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane and Jeff Neiburg take stock of the Eagles' successes and failures at the 10-game mark, and also react to the breaking news about right tackle Lane Johnson's foot injury. unCovering the Birds is a production of The Philadelphia Inquirer and KYW Newsradio Original Podcasts. Look for new episodes throughout the season, including day-after-game reactions.

The main event this week was the NFL, starting with a passionate take on the league's international push into places like Madrid, Brazil, and Australia. The crew agrees that while it's a win for the NFL brand, it's a "raw deal" for players due to the travel disrupting their prep and rhythm, leading to a call for increased player compensation and a complete end to Thursday Night Football (unless both teams are coming off a bye week). The discussion then turned to the Eagles, where defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is single-handedly "saving their season" with a masterful scheme, drawing comparisons to legendary DC Jim Johnson. However, the offense is a different story; while talented, the play-calling is critiqued as "ridiculous," and the team is dealing with the "massive loss" of Lane Johnson on the offensive line. Elsewhere, the AFC playoff picture is described as "boring," with teams like the Steelers and Jaguars, and the Kansas City Chiefs' 5-5 record is raising eyebrows about whether they can even secure the 10 wins needed to make the postseason. In the NFC, the West is shaping up to be the most terrifying division, with the Rams, Seahawks, and 49ers all looking like teams you "would not want to get anywhere near" in the playoffs. Ultimately, the consensus prediction for this year is that defense will win the championship, favoring teams like the Broncos, Rams, and Eagles. The episode wraps up the NFL segment with a breakdown of the Plaxico betting picks, where House is leading at 9-21. An intriguing discussion about the Group of Five team getting the 12th playoff seed pits the American Conference (AAC) against the Sun Belt, specifically setting up a potential winner-take-all matchup between Tulane and North Texas for that coveted spot, although James Madison is also in the running. Before diving into the gridiron, the episode also touches on the NBA, celebrating Cade Cunningham becoming the sixth active NBA player with a Nike shoe deal.
The Midday Show Team gets an update on Lane Johnson, who left last night's game with a foot injury. Johnson will be out for some time with a Lisfranc injury. It is not expected to be season ending, but the team reacts to the news.

The Eagles offense or defense?

Seth Joyner joins the show to discuss the Tush Push and why the Eagles are not being called for false starts. He shares strong opinions about the referees. Tek & Prem discuss the return of BG to the Eagles locker room and what it means for the energy around the team. We look ahead to the rematch with Jaxson Dart and the upstart Giants, this Sunday, 1PM, at the Linc. Jalen Hurts put on a show in Minnesota with a perfect passer rating, and facing the human implosion known as Carson Wentz did not hurt one bit. The red zone defense has been near the top of the NFL and is why this team stands at 5-2, despite being yet to play a complete football game in all phases. With the meat of the season coming, the stretch run into winter, November through January, the evolution of the offense will continue to take shape as we approach the return of Playoff Jalen. Heading into the bye at 6-2 is crucial. The Sixers have a new star among them named VJ Edgecombe, who broke Allen Iverson's franchise record for points scored in a debut. The backcourt is now among the NBA's top duos. A quality win to start the season in Boston should do wonders for the trajectory of this Sixers season.
