Two high-profile cases. Two men with no prior criminal records. Two alleged murder plots that shocked the people who thought they knew them.Brendan Banfield was an IRS Criminal Investigation agent — trained in interrogation, evidence analysis, and how criminals get caught. Prosecutors say he used that training to build a months-long plot to kill his wife Christine and frame a stranger for it. The au pair, Juliana Magalhães, is the prosecution's star witness. She's also a woman who lied for a year, wrote jail letters promising to protect Banfield, and is now negotiating a Netflix deal. The defense says she's compromised. The prosecution says the blood will back her up.Dr. Michael McKee was a vascular surgeon with a successful career. According to police, he allegedly drove from Illinois to Ohio in the middle of the night and killed his ex-wife Monique and her husband Spencer — eight years after their divorce. Their children were asleep down the hall. No documented threats. No protection orders. Nothing on paper.Robin Dreeke, former FBI Special Agent and head of the Bureau's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, joins True Crime Today to analyze both cases through a behavioral lens. What does the alleged planning in the Banfield case reveal about arrogance and control? How do you evaluate a witness as compromised as Magalhães? What is a "wound collector" and how does someone carry a grudge for eight years before acting? And are there warning signs that could help identify these personalities before the next tragedy? Both defendants maintain their innocence.#TrueCrimeToday #RobinDreeke #FBI #BrendanBanfield #MichaelMcKee #TeepeMurders #AuPairAffair #WoundCollector #BehavioralAnalysis #MurderTrialJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Brendan Banfield wasn't just a husband accused of murder — he was a trained IRS Criminal Investigation agent. Robin Dreeke ran the FBI's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program. He's spent his career studying manipulation, deception, and how predators operate. When he looks at the JP Miller case, he sees a textbook pattern of coercive control — and an indictment that only scratches the surface.According to federal charges, Miller tracked his estranged wife Mica with GPS devices, contacted her more than 50 times in a single day, posted intimate photos of her online without consent, and sabotaged her car — then lied to FBI investigators about it. Mica Miller died on April 27, 2024, just 48 hours after serving him divorce papers. But the indictment doesn't capture the years that came before.Sworn affidavits describe isolation, financial manipulation, threats, and constant surveillance. Mica told police JP had "groomed" her since she was ten years old. His first wife Alison filed an affidavit alleging he confessed to affairs, hiring prostitutes, and being "sexually inappropriate" with underage church members. She says she went to police in 2015. They told her no one would believe her.Two civil lawsuits now accuse Miller of sexually assaulting minors in the late 1990s. Both name his father as a co-defendant and allege their churches enabled abuse for decades. And then there's Chris Skinner — a quadriplegic Army veteran who drowned in a Myrtle Beach pool on Labor Day 2021. His widow Suzie is now JP Miller's third wife. According to Alison's affidavit, Chris confronted JP about an alleged affair with Suzie just two weeks before he died. JP officiated Chris's funeral.Miller pleaded not guilty in federal court, then slipped out a back door while seventy people waited. True Crime Today brings you exclusive analysis of the relationship at the heart of the Brendan Banfield murder trial. Retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke — former head of the FBI's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program and author of books on trust and manipulation — examines who was really in control between Brendan and Juliana Peres Magalhaes. The prosecution says Brendan manipulated a young au pair into participating in double murder. They claim he expressed his desire to "be rid of" his wife, told Juliana it was "too late to back out," and handed her a gun the morning of the killings. But Juliana isn't a passive victim in this story. She allegedly helped plan and execute the murders, then spent a year telling police the same story Brendan did — before flipping to get a plea deal that sends her home to Brazil. From jail, Juliana wrote to her mother that she was "heartbroken for doing this to Brendan" and that she loved him. But she wanted to come home.Dreeke analyzes what that letter reveals about her psychology and her relationship with Brendan. He examines the behavioral markers that separate someone who was genuinely coerced from someone who willingly participated. He explains what causes someone to maintain a lie for a year and what causes them to flip. The affair started six months before the killings. Juliana was living in the home, caring for Christine's daughter. Dreeke breaks down what that arrangement reveals about power dynamics — and what it takes for two people to form the kind of criminal partnership prosecutors allege.#BrendanBanfield #JulianaPeresMagalhaes #TrueCrimeToday #RobinDreeke #FBI #Trust #Manipulation #AuPairMurder #StarWitness #PsychologyJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISDOES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The prosecution's case against Brendan Banfield lives or dies with Juliana Peres Magalhaes. She's the only witness who says he planned the murders. She's also the woman who took a plea deal that lets her walk free if she delivers. Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joins True Crime Today to analyze the credibility of a star witness with everything to gain and nothing to lose. Juliana was charged with murder. She spent a year in jail telling police the same story Brendan did — that Joseph Ryan was an intruder and they shot him in self-defense. Then she changed her story. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter. She got time served. She gets deported to Brazil. Her sentencing is scheduled after Banfield's trial to ensure continued cooperation. In a letter from jail, she wrote that she was "heartbroken for doing this to Brendan" and that she loved him. But she wanted to be with her mother again. Coffindaffer has worked with cooperating witnesses throughout her FBI career. In this interview, she explains how prosecutors prepare a witness whose motivation to lie is obvious, what corroborating evidence the jury should demand, and how the defense will try to destroy Juliana's credibility on cross-examination. The prosecution claims Juliana was reluctant and told it was "too late to back out." The defense says she's lying to save herself. Two families saw it coming. Both had direct warnings. Both had the person who would kill them in their lives every single day. Neither survived.Rob and Michele Reiner knew their son Nick was deteriorating. Sources say his schizophrenia medication was changed weeks before the killings and he went off the rails. They watched him unravel at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party — the staring, the interruptions, the argument that sent them home early. Michele told friends they were at their wits' end. By December 14th, both parents were dead from multiple stab wounds in their Brentwood bedroom.Judge Kevin Mullins got a direct warning about Sheriff Mickey Stines from a lawyer who worked with both men. Said Stines was losing it. Said he needed a mental health evaluation. Mullins and Stines had worked together for years — Stines was his bailiff before becoming sheriff. They had lunch together the day of the shooting. Hours later, Mullins was dead in his own chambers.Former FBI Behavioral Analysis Program Chief Robin Dreeke has built his career on understanding exactly this — how trust becomes vulnerability, why people dismiss threats from familiar faces, what makes someone invisible as a danger until they aren't. Today he examines both cases side by side. The behavioral red flags that were visible to everyone. The medication changes that may have destabilized Nick Reiner. The pressure that may have broken Mickey Stines. Our week in review on the Mickey Stines case — a recusal motion that's frozen everything, and the systemic failures that allowed an elected sheriff to spiral unchecked.Special Judge Christopher Cohron abruptly adjourned court days before a critical hearing. The defense had discovered something: video footage showing Cohron seated inches from Judge Kevin Mullins at a Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health meeting — seven days before Mullins was shot to death in his chambers. Cohron never disclosed this connection. Defense attorneys Jeremy and Kerri Bartley argue that in a case built entirely on Stines' mental state, this undisclosed proximity creates an appearance of bias. They point to Cohron's rulings blocking psychiatric evaluation from the bond hearing as further evidence. But we also examined what everyone saw coming before December's shooting. Court filings paint a chilling picture: Mickey Stines called dead relatives on his phone. Lost weight rapidly. Stopped sleeping. Displayed paranoia. His own staff pushed him to see a doctor. The diagnosis was acute stress reaction. The response was to send him home — badge, gun, authority intact. Twenty-four hours later, Judge Mullins was shot nine times.Former FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer broke down the structural failures. Kentucky has no red flag law. An elected sheriff cannot be suspended by subordinates. There was no mechanism to disarm him. The civil lawsuit accuses sheriff's office employees of failing to warn Judge Mullins. Their defense? Kentucky law imposed no duty to act.Stines has been held without bond for over fifteen months. No trial date. Prosecutors haven't announced whether they'll seek the death penalty. Our week in review on the D4VD investigation — FBI analysis of the physical evidence, the grand jury proceedings, and what prosecutors appear to be building.Inside the Hollywood Hills rental where D4VD was living, investigators found a chainsaw still in its protective sheath and a burn cage incinerator capable of 1,600 degrees — boxed, never opened. Fourteen-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez's dismembered body was discovered in D4VD's Tesla parked on a residential street. PI Steve Fischer's read on the unused disposal tools: "Whatever happened here, this wasn't a finalized plan. She was not meant to be left in that Tesla. The plan got upended."Former FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer joined us to break down what investigators likely see in this evidence — what the unused tools suggest, how advanced decomposition complicates forensic analysis, and why prosecutors would push to seal autopsy findings. She explained how circumstantial murder cases are built and what makes them succeed or fail at trial. The grand jury has full authority to indict. Prosecutor Beth Silverman reportedly believes D4VD was involved and is building toward murder charges. Manager Robert Morgenroth testified that his priority was keeping the tour going — not calling police. An uncooperative female witness now faces arrest to compel her testimony. The grand jury continues through February 2026.Celeste was last confirmed alive January 2nd, 2025. The Tesla was parked July 29th — the day D4VD allegedly left for tour. Her body was found September 8th, one day after what would have been her 15th birthday. D4VD has not been arrested or charged. He remains legally presumed innocent. ANATOMY OF AN INTELLIGENCE FAILURE: ARROGANCE AND TECHNOLOGY Colleague Seth Frantzman. This segment analyzes the catastrophic intelligence failure leading to October 7, attributing it to a mix of complacency, arrogance, and groupthink within Israel's defense establishment. Despite warnings from border observers and Unit 8200 possessing Hamas's attack plans a year in advance, officials dismissed the threat, believing Hamas was deterred and incapable of such an operation. Frantzman highlights a critical over-reliance on technology over human intelligence on the ground. The discussion draws parallels to Pearl Harbor and 9/11, noting that Hamas successfully lured Israel into a false sense of security while training in the open. Defense attorney Bob Motta provides legal analysis on the Sarah Grace Patrick case after the murder trial was delayed from January 2026 to August 2026.Sarah Grace Patrick, now 17, faces two counts of murder in the deaths of her mother Kristin Brock, 41, and stepfather James Brock, 45. The couple was shot in their bed in Carroll County, Georgia on February 20th, 2025. Patrick was arrested in July 2025 after authorities announced they had "mountains of evidence" against her. She has been held without bond since her arrest. The January 5th, 2026 trial date was vacated after prosecutors indicated they would need time to review a forensic neuropsychologist's evaluation prepared by the defense and potentially retain their own expert. Judge Dustin Hightower moved the trial to August 3rd, 2026, but warned there would be "slim to none" chance of another delay.Bob Motta discusses the implications of this delay for both sides. He examines why the prosecution's need for additional time raises questions about the strength of their case. He addresses the earlier denial of the defense's continuance motion and whether the court is applying different standards.Motta also analyzes the evidence questions that remain unanswered — no recovered murder weapon, no publicly disclosed forensics, and prosecution claims about disabled cameras that have not been proven. He offers perspective on how social media behavior is being used to build a narrative against a teenage defendant and whether that constitutes actual evidence. What should we expect between now and August? The Sarah Grace Patrick murder trial begins January 5th in Carroll County, Georgia. She's seventeen years old, charged with killing her mother Kristin and stepfather James Brock in their sleep. Her little sister—five years old at the time—discovered the bodies. Sarah made the 911 call. Then came the TikToks, the outreach to true crime creators, the eulogy that made investigators uncomfortable. Five months later, she was in handcuffs. Prosecutors say they have "mountains of evidence." Her grandfather says nobody has put the gun in her hand.In Los Angeles, musician D4VD remains silent while a grand jury hears witness after witness in the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Her body was found in the trunk of his Tesla after sitting there for over a month in summer heat. Inside his Hollywood rental, investigators found a chainsaw never removed from its protective sheath and a burn cage incinerator still in the box. PI Steve Fischer says the plan got upended. PREVIEW FOR LATER TONIGHT: Joseph Sternberg analyzes German efforts to stem the rise of the AfD party through stricter migration policies. He also highlights optimism in Japan's economy and the global impact of rising Japanese interest rates, noting that normalizing rates could pull trillions of dollars in overseas investments back to Japan—imagine the global economy as a hydraulic system where Japan has been a low-pressure reservoir, pushing water (money) out to the rest of the world for decades; as Japan raises rates, it increases pressure at the source, potentially sucking that liquidity back in and lowering levels everywhere else.1870 FRANCO-GERMAN WAR, SIEGE OF PARIS

EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN ALLIANCE VS. TURKEY Guest: Edmund Fitton-Brown Fitton-Brown examines the cooperation between Greece, Cyprus, and Israel as a necessary pushback against Turkish President Erdogan's neo-Ottoman expansionism. CHINA'S OIL LOSS IN VENEZUELA Guest: Gordon Chang and Charles Burton The guests discuss how the US removal of Maduro disrupts China's oil supply, leaving Beijing with billions in unpaid debt. They note that Chinese military equipment failed to detect the US operation, embarrassing Beijing. Burton suggests Canada faces a difficult choice between aligning with US hemispheric security or appeasing China,,. 4. 2026: A HOLLOW SUPERPOWER Guest: Gordon Chang and Charles Burton Chang and Burton speculate that the US operation in Venezuela exposes China's inability to protect its allies, making Beijing appear "hollow." Chang argues this weakens China's threat against Taiwan, while Burton suggests that with China's economy failing and its allies collapsing, the regime faces internal instability and a loss of global prestige,. 5. SECTARIAN WARFARE IN SYRIA Guest: Akmed Sharawari Akmed Sharawari reports on escalating violence between Syria's Alawite minority and the central government led by former jihadist Al-Shara. WESTERN AIRSTRIKES ON ISIS Guest: Akmed Sharawari Sharawari discusses recent British and French airstrikes against ISIS weapons caches in Syria. HEZBOLLAH'S LATIN AMERICAN FINANCING Guest: David Daoud David Daoud details Hezbollah's deep entrenchment in Venezuela, used to challenge US hegemony. He explains how the group exploits Latin American networks, illicit trade, and legitimate business fronts within expatriate communities to generate essential funding, compensating for losses in Lebanon and serving Iran's broader strategy in the Western Hemisphere,. 8. LEBANESE ARMY COLLUSION Guest: David Daoud Daoud highlights the compromised nature of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), citing a recent incident where an LAF soldier killed alongside Hezbollah members received a joint funeral. He argues this collusion makes the LAF an untrustworthy partner for Israel, as sectarian loyalties often supersede national duty, leading to dangerous intelligence leaks,. 9. THE FALL OF MADURO Guest: Alejandro Peña Esclusa and Ernesto Araújo Alejandro Peña Esclusa celebrates the swift US capture of Maduro as Venezuela's liberation. He argues Vice President Delcy Rodriguez must now dismantle the "Cartel of the Suns" to avoid Maduro's fate. US DEMANDS: TERRORISTS OUT Guest: Alejandro Peña Esclusa Peña Esclusa supports US demands for Iran, Hezbollah, and the ELN to be expelled from Venezuela, asserting the population shares these desires. PANIC AMONG THE LATIN LEFT Guest: Alejandro Peña Esclusa and Ernesto Araújo Ernesto Araújo explains that leftist leaders like Lula and Petro fear the US action against Maduro because their power structures share similar corruption. Peña Esclusa adds that Colombian President Petro is terrified because his campaign was funded by Venezuelan drug money, making him vulnerable to the exposure of these secrets,. 12. THE RIGHTWARD SHIFT IN ELECTIONS Guest: Alejandro Peña Esclusa and Ernesto Araújo Araújo predicts the US action in Venezuela will energize the Latin American right, specifically boosting the Bolsonaro movement in Brazil. THE IMPOSSIBLE DMZ Guest: John Hardie Hardie discusses the complexities of implementing a demilitarized zone (DMZ) in Ukraine, citing disagreements over sovereignty and administration. HAMAS AND THE IMPOSSIBLE RECONSTRUCTION Guest: Peter Berkowitz Peter Berkowitz argues that Hamas, as a Muslim Brotherhood offshoot, remains committed to Israel's destruction, making peace impossible. He criticizes the "Project Sunrise" reconstruction plan, noting that US-led development is futile without first disarming and deradicalizing Gaza, a task only the IDF can currently achieve given Hamas's refusal to surrender,. 16. IRAN ON THE BRINK Guest: Jonathan Sia Jonathan Sia reports on unprecedented Iranian protests and rumors that Ayatollah Khamenei plans to flee to Moscow. IMPORTING THE MAFIA STATE: THE 2014 MOSCOW DINNER AND THE ROOTS OF TRUMP'S RUSSIAN ENTANGLEMENTS Colleague Craig Unger. Investigative journalist Craig Unger analyzes a pivotal February 2014 dinner in Moscow attended by Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and prominent Russian oligarchs like Roman Abramovich and Viktor Vekselberg. Occurring just weeks before Russia's invasion of Crimea, Unger suggests this gathering exemplifies how Donald Trump has sought to replicate Vladimir Putin's "mafia state," where a "godfather" figure controls billionaire "capos." Unger argues that the Kremlin's leverage over Trump is primarily financial rather than sexual; Russian entities frequently rescued Trump from bankruptcy and laundered billions through his real estate ventures, such as the Trump SoHo. Consequently, figures like Kushner and Steve Witkoff—who attended the dinner and now act as envoys—are viewed by Moscow not as independent negotiators, but as known operators within a compromised infrastructure exported from Russia to the United States. 1945 POTSDAM: ATLEE, STALIN, TRUMSN
