The Philadelphia Eagles 2021-2022 season is now in the books as the Birds lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card game down at Raymond James Stadium by a score of 31-15. It was ugly. It was embarrassing. The season is over. We've learned a lot about this team as some changes will be made for the future. Some players will be staying for years to come as well. We've seen those developmental pieces all season, and it's safe to say the Eagles' future and trajectory is certainly moving upward. Our friend of the pod, David Esser (DavidEsser_) from Sportscasting.com jumped on with Jeff to not only discuss the aftermath of the Wild Card game, but the guys discussed where the organization and team directionally need to move this offseason in terms of talent acquisition. As always, we concluded our Eagles postgame podcast by grading the special teams, defense, and offense as we reflected on this season as well. This week, what we're throwing down on the Table is a fantastic discussion with author Dave Rueter (@wheresbenrivera) who penned the book, "A Phillies Odyssey: Exploring the Forgotten Players of Fighting Yesteryear." We talked about those players who weren't all-stars, but made significant impacts on our lives growing up as Phillies fans. It was a fun discussion! But first, as the Eagles head to the playoffs, we discussed which aspects of this Birds' team developed the best and worst this season. (approx. 4:15)Then we gave our thoughts on how this Philadelphia 76ers team won 7 games in a row, and whether they have the wherewithal to continue winning as tougher games are upon them. Plus, recent reports indicate a Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris trade package is possible before the February 10th trade deadline. (approx. 21:35)From there, we dove into some baseball talk. First, how critical this new collective bargaining agreement will be between MLB and the Players Union as it pertains to the relevance of baseball for years to come. We also discussed Phillies players that meant so much to us growing up as kids, players who weren't big names, but meant a lot to us. (approx. 34:05)What we threw down on the Table was a great discussion with Dave Rueter who wrote "A Phillies Odyssey." They Phillies players he wrote about weren't "big names" but had an impact on the Phillies organization and especially the fan base. We asked Dave what he hopes readers will get out of his book, and what stories of players' really stuck with him. This week, what we're throwing down on the Table is a discussion with Kelly Hinkle (@hinx) from BroadStreetHockey.com and the BSH Radio podcast about this rough season for the Philadelphia Flyers and us fans as we sit back and watch. Will the front office blow up this entire team in the future? We'll get into it for sure. But first, we talked about Ben Roethelisberger's sendoff in Pittsburgh, and how we'd love to see one of our beloved Eagles' players do the same in the future. Which player might we witness giving Philly a sendoff upon his retirement? (approx. 4:25)Then we gave our thoughts on how the college football portal has been making tremendous waves over this past season and over the past couple weeks. It's college football free agency! (approx. 8:40)From there, we dove into this Philadelphia Eagles team and who really deserves the credit for this success of a season? (approx. 17:25)Of course, we then had to talk about this Sixers team. Reflecting on The Process here in 2022, especially where this 76ers team is doing a little better than mediocre, are fans, from an overall picture, justified in their displeasure? (approx. 25:40)What we threw down on the Table was a great discussion with Kelly Hinkle from Broad Street Hockey about the current state of this Flyers' team as there are so many questions that need answers. Why should the front office not just blow this whole thing up after yet another season where they either barely make or barely miss the playoffs? How should we be assessing Mike Yeo at this point as interim head coach? And where does his leash end this season? Based on injuries, is there maybe something with the organization's conditioning program or medical staff that is a concern? The Eagles are now 9-7 on the season, and look to a potential playoff berth. This week, Jeff was joined by Gino Cammilleri (@GC24_Football) from the Locked On Eagles podcast.Like last week, this game was a tale of two halves as the offense and defense couldn't produce much in the first half. However, the adjustments made in-game and stellar situational football from both the offense and defense in the second half helped give this team a needed victory as they look toward the playoffs. While having not thrown a touchdown in this game, Jalen Hurts had himself a very nice game, putting this offense in a good position especially in the red zone in the second half. The Eagles defense was giving up big-time yards in the first half, but made huge plays in the second half thanks to Josh Sweat and Avonte Maddox. The Eagles are now 8-7 on the season, surprising us as the playoffs could very well be in their future. This week, Jeff was joined by Gino Cammilleri (@GC24_Football) from the Locked On Eagles podcast. This game was a tale of two halves as Jalen Hurts and the offense were completely undisciplined and looked like they never played the game of football in their lives during the first two quarters. It wasn't until the third quarter where the offense picked up and ran with momentum scoring 31 unanswered points. Offensively, there were contributions everywhere on the field, including offensive tackle Lane Johnson who caught a touchdown pass. The Eagles defense was dominant throughout the game as they should have been with Jake Fromm and Mike Glennon playing quarterback for the Giants. The Eagles are now 7-7 on this developmental season, and they are truly looking at playoff and wild card push once again during this latter stretch of the season. While Jalen Hurts wasn't perfect by any stretch, this was arguably his best game and performance in an Eagles uniform - after giving up a fumble in the first quarter. He certainly turned things around and ran this Eagles offense extremely efficiently while rushing for two touchdowns. The Eagles defense was dominant holding Washington to just 63 yards on the ground, and made life rough for backup quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who was only signed by Washington a couple days before this game. The Eagles are now 6-7 on this developmental season, and there are likely to now be questions about the quarterback position as backup QB Gardner Minshew played a fantastic game from the pocket.Minshew had an almost perfect game. However, his success should be ess about him, and more about how poorly Jalen Hurts has performed as a passer this season for this Eagles offense. Week 12 of the Philadelphia Eagles 2021 season is now in the books as the Eagles lost on the road up at MetLife Stadium to the New York Giants by a score of 13-7. The Eagles are now 5-7 on this developmental season, and there are questions, as there should be, on whether or not the Eagles can actually make a playoff push after this disaster of a performance. This week we were joined on the postgame podcast show by Emily Iannaconi (@EmilyIannaconi) from BigBlueView.com.Jalen Hurts had his first ever 3 interception game and only threw for 129 yards on 31 attempts. He was inconsistent, hesitant and is still not getting through all of his reads. While Nick Sirianni didn't start the game rushing the ball effectively, he came around to it as the Birds rushed for 208 total yards on the ground. Jalen Reagor could have caught two balls to potentially win the game for the Eagles, but both were dropped. There is no way the Eagles defense should be blamed for this loss. They held Saquon Barkley and the Giants rushing attack to 70 yards and tried to help the Eagles offense as much as possible. Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon was allowing the Eagles cornerbacks to battle it out in man coverage against the Giants receivers, which was working nicely throughout the game.As always, we gave our takeaways, dove into the stats, and graded coaches.Head over to our website for more podcasts and more: https://www.philadelphiasportstable.com.Follow the guys on Twitter:Jeff Warren: @Jeffrey_WarrenErik Leonard: @BrickPolittLen Hunsicker: @LenHunsickerFollow the show on Instagram: @philadelphiasportstable"Like" our Facebook Page: facebook.com/PhiladelphiaSportsTable

Third down efficiency continues to look more and more impressive week after week, as does Nick Sirianni's play calling, understanding the strengths of his offensive players. It was a tale of two halves for the defense as they dominated via man coverage and stopped the Saints offense from doing much in the first half. The Eagles are now 3-6 on this developmental season. This week we were joined on the postgame podcast show by Gino Cammilleri (@GC24_Football) from the Locked on Eagles podcast. As we saw in week 8, Nick Sirianni decided that running the ball was still the best way forward with this Eagles offense as they faced one of the worst rushing defenses in the league. 176 yards rushing this week along with two rushing touchdowns is showing us where the strengths and weaknesses of the offense are. Jalen Hurts went 11/17 for 162 yards and 1 TD.The Eagles defense and coordinator Jonathan Gannon held the Chargers to under 100 yards rushing - 89 yards to be exact. However, the soft zone coverage time and time again allowed the Chargers to consistently drive down the field. The Chargers didn't punt once in this game. Justin Herbert threw 38 times for 356 yards and 2 TDs. (approx. 7:35)We then dove into how the Flyers preseason has been interesting to follow and some of the storylines we'll be watching as the season starts this week! (approx. 14:25)This week, our Phillies talk focused on what the biggest need for the team to address during the offseason. Yes, there's much that needs to be addressed, but what's that biggest need? (approx. 23:30)What we threw down on the Table was a fantastic discussion with Jeff Kerr from Yahoo Sports about the perseverance of this Eagles team. Persevering through finding the next franchise quarterback, persevering through the trials and tribulations of the offensive line, and persevering with this linebacker corps and how it's not getting better anytime soon. All of this and much more during our discussion with Jeff! Week 5 of the Philadelphia Eagles 2021 season is now in the books as the Birds somehow picked up a win on the road against the Carolina Panthers by a score of 21-18. The Eagles are now 2-3 on the season. After watching this game, we still don't know what kind of quarterback Jalen Hurts is on the field. Awful play during most of the game turned into some kind of productivity as he rushed for two touchdowns in the second half. The running game still remains a mystery and the offensive line had a rough week. The defense had three interceptions in this game and the defensive line was disruptive. They did not give up as many rushing yards as they have in the past, which was a positive on the day for this team.David Esser from Sportscasting.com joined Jeff this week to dive into the postgame banter. We got into it with Liz!But first, we discussed wether the Eagles offensive line is seeing any development, as well as how truly bad the Eagles defense is. Plus, we gave our scoring predictions for this coming week's Eagles vs. Panthers game. (approx. 6:20)We then dove into the Urban Meyer scandal and controversy as it pertains to him as a person, and how he doesn't appear to grasp the differences between college football and pro football. Struggles and challenges are on the horizon. (approx. 35:30)We then talked about what we're looking forward to during the MLB postseason as the Phillies season is now over. Week 4 of the Philadelphia Eagles 2021 season is now in the books. The Birds lost to the Kansas City Chiefs at The Linc by a score of 42-30. The Eagles are now 1-3 on the season that we know is a developmental year. While Jalen Hurts, Nick Sirianni and the offense, overall, bounced back after a horrible game last week against the Cowboys, it still wasn't enough to quell the firepower and connection of Patrick Mahomes and Tyrek Hill.Jonathan Gannon and his defense have now given up two back-to-back games of over 40 points. The run defense this week was absolutely putrid.David Esser from Sportscasting.com joined Jeff this week to dive into the postgame banter. (approx. 7:10)We then talked about how this Philadelphia Eagles team isn't instilling much confidence in the fan base as Miles Sanders carried the ball twice this past week and there's no apparent chemistry between the quarterback and wide receivers. Week 3 of the Eagles 2021 season is now in the books. The Birds lost to the Dallas down at AT&T Stadium in Texas by a score of 41-21. And don't let the "close score" fool you. The Eagles are now 1-2 on the season.Somehow the running backs only carried the ball 3 times in this game. Miles Sanders, a weapon on offense, carried the ball twice during the course of a 60 minute game. The receivers were once again uninspiring, and Jalen Hurts threw two interceptions and two touchdowns - one touchdown came in garbage time.Nick Sirianni isn't instilling much confidence in the Eagles fan base as we're continuing to witness bizarre play calling and lack of discipline as the Eagles are now the most penalized team in the NFL.
