This week on a brand new episode of Let's Review, Brian reviews the staggering importance of salt, yes the little white mineral that we use to season food and also his grandmothers pies that she refused to teach him how to make resulting in arguing, almost getting fired, twice, and hundreds of dollars wasted while he tried to match the recipe as a chef. This episode does contain language that some may find offensive. This week on Let's Talk About Chef host Brian Clarke is back with another Let's Review episode. First up we review the concept and restaurants of Momofuku and second Brian tells the story of how a lost directionless teenager figured his life out in Italy thanks to a stranger who made him pizza.Just a warning, there is some language people may find offensive (swearing) and for that we apologize. Saluton! Ne estas kulero…Welcome to Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. I am your host Tyson Saner. I've got a show for you that's bursting with content for your ears. Earlier today I was thinking about how strange it is that many of us refer to soundcasts as "shows"…because, aside from those with a visual component such as video or something like it…mostly soundcasts are…well, SOUND…You can't really see sound…just that which it effects. So podcasts, like radio shows before them, would more accurately be referred to as "tells"…but it's silly to think about re-naming everything simply because of logic. I mean, I'd have to re-brand my other soundcast "Anti Social Show" to "Anti Social Tell"…and that's just weird…the acronym sucks too…it's "AST"…I don't think that's a thing. I Googled it and it's not a word…it's not an English word at any rate. Let's see. If I put it through Google Translate, I see it means "branch" in…German. So, mystery solved. Anyway, in this edition of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, I've got clips from The TryPod, The One In Twenty Show, You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes, Let's Write An Episode, Dr. Drew After Dark, and Thick Skin with Jeff Ross. We've also got a TRIPLE dose of Raging Moderate Will Durst's "Burst O Durst" segments. That's right, THREE! There's the latest edition of "Let's Review" from Succotash executive producer Marc Hershon, And, of course, a reading from TrumPoetry.com, our Fake Sponsor with a real website with real poetry. It's a lot of content so let's get to it CLIPS The TryPodThe Try Guys have swam with sharks, survived in the wild, shocked themselves with birthing simulators, and risked their lives for their videos. In this weekly podcast they dissect their experiences as internet creators and best friends who have made a living failing upwards. Our clips is from their first epi which dropped back in May of this year, entitled "Sex Tapes & First Dates". Let's Write an EpisodeComedian Tommy Oler and friends get together to perform and write fake episodes of your favorite shows from the past and present, audio drama style. Listen as some of your most beloved characters go on adventures never before possible. Our clip is from their second-ever episode, featuring Tommy, KC Shorina, and NIck Cox, who get together to write their own episode of the hit 90's TV show "Saved By The Bell. Dr. Drew After DarkDr. Drew Pinsky is a board-certified internist and one of America's most trusted physicians. On Dr. Drew After Dark, he shares his professional opinion about all of the weirdest stuff on the Internet. The clip we're featuring hails from Epi8, which first hit the web back in April of this year. In it is a miniature recreation of "Loveline", a late-night radio advice program that Dr. Drew hosted with radio personality and podcaster Adam Carolla…on which Andy Dick had been a guest multiple times. … You Made It Weird with Pete HolmesA weekly comedy interview podcast, You Made It Weird originated under the premise that Holmes would ask his guest, usually a fellow comedian, about three "weird" things he knew about them, but the show has since evolved into a much more loose conversation about such complex topics as comedy, religion, and sexuality. Everybody has secret weirdness, comedian Pete Holmes gets comedians to share theirs including, in an episode from the end of last year, the unique, weird, and wonderful comedy brain of Paula Poundstone. The One in Twenty Show An interview-based podcast hosted by Evan Rogers, The One in Twenty Show is rooted in finding the next one in twenty individuals who are pursuing their passions with success. Our clip is from Epi38 from this past May, and features guest Jen Matichuk, a multi-faceted creator from Canada — most known for her work with Rhett and Link as a brand coordinator and producer on Good Mythical Morning. Thick Skin with Jeff Ross"Life is hard. Let's get through it together." Join Jeff Ross, The Roastmaster General, as he takes on "Touchy Subjects", interviews people smarter than him and pays tribute to the recently deceased, so they can properly Roast In Peace. The clip we're featuring was from a show just a couple of weeks ago, entitled "Why I Roasted Anne Frank" on what would have been her 90th Birthday. And there's another "tell over and done with." No, that doesn't sound good at all…I don't think it will catch on any time soon. You know what could though? This soundcast. How?…I haven't worked that part out much beyond a semi-aggressive word-of-mouth campaign…For example, I have a show on my YouTube channel called Tyson Saner: Gamer where I play video games and give commentary of my experiences. At the end of every episode I mention Succotash The Comedy Souncast Soundcast and how you can find its website at www.succotashshow.com if one was so inclined to do so. I also mention Anti Social Show a podcast I co-host that, assuming you have heard this episode from the beginning, you may well remember me mentioning it…and finally I mention a little show called Gaming Outside My Comfort Zone which is a gaming show that my wife hosts on her YouTube channel which is called "SexxyLaura27Games". That's my attempt at giving word-of-mouth about this and other ongoing projects…and THIS is my attempt to do that very thing in your ears if you are listening…or hearing that little voice in your head that you hear while reading things - If and/or when you are reading things in your head. And if you were so inclined to tell anyone about Succotash the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast you would be performing an intense act of kindness toward us…and we would appreciate that a great deal…for that is what we mean when we ask you to Please Pass The Succotash… — Tyson Saner
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner welcoming you to Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. It's been a while but what can I say? Life happens. I'm still listening to soundcasts and looking for other soundcasts to listen to so I already have some listened to for the next show. What that means, of course, is that you have a greater chance of listening to a new show two weeks from the release of this episode than you did before I made sure to get extra listening done. I'm really trying to keep making these for those of you who are nice enough to listen to us and really, most sincerely, thank YOU for listening. This Epi193 features clips from: Dylan Brody's Neighbor's Couch Revisited, Confidently Insecure with Kelsey Darragh, Nothin Burger Podcast, Giamatti! Giamatti! Giamatti!, The Life Beyond Our Mildest Dreams, and All Things Comedy Live. I've also got a double dose of political comedian and social commentator Will Durst's Burst O' Durst segment, a reading from our 100% FAKE SPONSOR (but Very Real Website) "TrumPoetry.com", and Executive Producer Marc Hershon has been gracious enough to send along another Let's Review segment for this program, featuring content from the soundcast Minor Adventures with Topher Grace. It's a healthily portioned show and I can't wait to serve it to you. CLIPS Giamatti! Giamatti! Giamatti! (with Sam and Dan)Dedicated to the academic discussion of the acclaimed actor, Paul Giamatti. Every week hosts Dan Brenneman & Sam Calderon move through a new piece in the Paul canon. ("Blessed be the Giamatti, praise be.") Our clips is from their second epi, "His Earliest Cameos", and it scrapes the surface of their bigger discussion on the experience that was attempting to watch a film called She'll Take Romance, whose cast included none other than…Paul Giamatti. Nothin Burger Podcast This very new soundcast features hosts Daniel Kaufman and Eric Ohlsen talking comedy, science, politics, or whatever else is on their minds. We've gotten a clip from the premiere episode from this past April, with guest Tony Martin — a former writer on The Simpsons — and it's from a segment of the show where they were talking about, strangely enough, The Simpsons. Mildest DreamsThe Life Beyond Our Mildest Dreams soundcast offers an unfiltered, funny, insider's look at sobriety and its fringe culture. With hosts Owen Bowness and John Moses, our featured clip comes from a show that dropped in September of last year, and had guest Joe List along for the chat. The clip covers part of the trio's discussion about Buddhism. All Things Comedy Live (with Bill Burr and Al Madrigal)All Things Comedy soundcast network founders Bill Burr and Al Madrigal are joined by fellow comics for an unconventional hour-long show, featuring Bobby Lee, Rory Scovel, and Gareth Reynolds. The epi originally posted April 14th, 2016, our clip includes the beginning of the interview segment with Rory. Confidently Insecure Touted as "the podcast where we're absolutely sure we don't know everything," host Kelsey Darragh is joined by guest Eugene Lee Yang of The Try Guys crew. Taken from the first episode, which only just dropped in April of this year, the clip we have features Kelsey and Eugene discussing self-esteem, among other things… Dylan Brody's Neighbor's Couch Revisited Friend of Succotash Darren Staley sent in this clip, featuring Paul Provenza chatting it up about his TV show The Green Room with Darren and the titular Dylan Brody. (If YOU are a comedy soundcaster, you can do what Darren did and upload a 3-5 minute clip of your show directly to us, at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash, and we'll feature it on the show!) Whew! That was a whole lotta show. I hope you found some of it entertaining. If you enjoyed any of the content in any of those clips and you're looking to say something nice to someone, you may have noticed that a great many soundcasters and Podcasters are on Twitter, which makes it very easy and convenient to reach out to them. Many of them are actually pretty receptive to positive feedback although I imagine many would also be fairly surprised. Not because they don't deserve the praise but because — I don't know if you noticed this — people can be pretty darn negative with their comments to each other on Twitter. Who knows, maybe we can get kindness trending… One last thing: if you do reach out to any of the folks featured here on Twitter, why not tell them you heard them on Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast? If you'd like to include our show's Twitter handle so we know that you've tweeted at them it's @succotashshow ... and please be sure to us the hashtag #PassTheSuccotash because hashtags are fun to use. So, for Succotash the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast, I'm signing off while once again gently imploring you to please pass the Succotash! — Tyson Saner
Saluton, estas mi Tyson Saner, your host for the duration of this extra-stuffed edition of Succotash, The Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Thank you for deciding to choose us for the next bit of listening entertainment in your life. On the topics of life AND decisions I'd like to point out how the two are inexorably entwined. Life is full of decisions. Sometimes I have to make the agonizing choice of doing anything other than spending time with my newborn son. As a result, most of the work I get done is at night when he is sleeping. That's my decision to make and I happily make it. I've also decided to make an entire episode comprised of clips that were found with the help of our friends at the Laughable app because it helped me find some fantastic shows to clip for you this episode. I've got clips from Gettin' Better with Ron Funches, Oprah's Master Class: The Podcast, CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley, The Mike Lupica Podcast, Congratulations with Chris D'Elia, and The New Yorker Radio Hour. I've also got a double dose of raging moderate Will Durst's Burst O' Durst segment. I will be reading another selection from our sponsor TrumPoetry.com. And in this episode we introduce a special new segment from our very own Executive Producer Marc Hershon called "Let's Review", where he reads recent reviews he's written for "This Week in Comedy Podcasts" on Vulture.com. This episode he's covering Girls Gotta Eat and Inside Conan. THE CLIPS Oprah's Master Class: The Podcast In this episode, Emmy-, Grammy-, Oscar- and Tony-winning actress, TV host and stand-up comic Whoopi Goldberg talks with Oprah Winfrey candidly about her childhood in New York City, her most valuable life lessons and her defining screen roles. Whoopi explains how she landed her two most iconic roles: Celie in "The Color Purple" and Oda Mae Brown in "Ghost." She shares how she learned to accept success and open up doors of opportunity in her life. Whoopi also describes the moment she made peace with her mother's death. In our clip, Whoopi discusses her mother's approach to parenting. Gettin' Better with Ron Funches After listening to Hannah Gadsby's episode of Monsters of Talk (a now-defunct soundcast hosted by Margaret Cho and Jim Short), I really wanted to find a soundcast that featured some more conversation with Margaret Cho. Thanks to the Laughable App I found Gettin' Better, hosted by Ron Funches. In our featured clip Laugh-In is discussed as well as Margaret's early comic role models as well as her current favorite comedy personalities. The New Yorker Radio Hour David Remnick is joined by The New Yorker's award-winning writers, editors and artists to present a weekly mix of profiles, storytelling, and insightful conversations about the issues that matter — plus an occasional blast of comic genius from the magazine's legendary Shouts and Murmurs page. Our clip is from the episode that dropped on November 23rd last year (2018), entitled "Jim Carrey Doesn't Exist (According to Jim Carrey)". The Mike Lupica Podcast Mike Lupica, one of the most prominent columnists in America, brings his experience and insider's knowledge, coupled with a provocative presentation that takes an uncompromising look at the tumultuous worlds of professional sports, and politics to this weekly podcast. Every week join Mike and a special guest as they tackle the topics of today! The clip we're featuring is from Mike's chat with Larry David back in 2017. CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley CBS Sunday Morning with Jane Pauley is the top-rated Sunday morning news program in all the key demos, and features stories on the arts, music, nature, entertainment, sports, history, science, Americana and highlights unique human accomplishments and achievements. From May of last year, Lee Cowan hosts this part of the soundcast. I was specifically looking to clip the segment with two of my all-time favorite funny people, Steve Martin and Martin Short…so I did. Congratulations with Chris D'Elia Comedian and actor Chris D'Elia sits down every week to talk about what's on his mind. THe clip we're featuring comes from Epi116, "Open Up the Limit", where Chris responds to the local Albuquerque news covering his reaction from the week previous. And that's the lineup for this episode. There only remains for me to thank you for making us your destination listening for however long this episode turns out to be. I can't emphasise more the gratitude I feel every time you decide to make the decision to listen. If you could do this show a solid and leave us a review on iTunes it would really help us out. It's another type of word-of-mouth that is apparently very effective in helping us grow our audience and eventually perhaps landing us a real sponsor. When you tell others about us, you show us love in that particular fashion that is what we mean when we gently implore you to Please... Pass The Succotash? — Tyson Saner

In this Let's Review session, Kim and Jenn talk with Dr. Robin Means Coleman and Dr. Darnell Hunt to get at the heart of a listener-friend question about the proliferation of black leads on TV. Are we seeing a new era in black representation on TV? What's happening behind-the-scenes? Is there progress there? Spoiler alert: nope. But that doesn't stop us from having a great, informative conversation.
In this episode of Let's Review, Kim & Jenn ask some important questions about role models, celebrity, and whether African-Americans have a duty to use their platform for bigger causes. You can find show notes on the Let's Review website: medium.com/lets-review
