POPULARITY
John MosesJohn Moses has been delightfully offending audiences throughout the United States, Canada and the U.K. for more than 15 years. In 2017 John was a finalist at the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival in Atlanta and is a favorite at festivals all over including; The Boston Comedy Festival; The Asheville Comedy Festival; The Cottage Country Comedy Festival; and the Dark Comedy Festival in Toronto where he roasted Porn Legend Ron Jeremy. John released his debut album On The Edge with Uproar Entertainment in 2012. It was voted one of Laughspin.com's “10 Best Comedy Albums of 2012,” and given their dubious distinction as “The One Album From 2012 You Should Get By A Comedian You Probably Never Heard Of.” It is still in regular rotation on Sirius XM RawDog, The Foxxhole and Canada Laughs. In 2013, he became an immediate favorite on AXS.TV's Gotham Comedy Live and was featured in their special “Best of Season One.” In 2015 he made his second appearance on Gotham Comedy Live and received high praise from the show's host, the iconic Dom Irrera. In 2016 he made his third appearance on the show, it was one of the shows most popular segments in the shows three year run. He released his second album Upper Middle Trash in May of 2016. Raw Dog on SiriusXM named that album one of the best albums of 2016. An equal-opportunity offender, John's comedy transcends racial and cultural barriers—appealing to black, white, and brown audiences, the young and old, upstanding citizens and the morally bankrupt. John's style is shrewd, raw and uncompromisingly funny.
The English textile artist Alison Holt uses her imagination to capture landscapes and nature and then weave them into colorful canvases that are often taken for paintings. Alison says: 'Each piece is a combination of silk painting and freehand machine stitching. The painting creates depth, perspective and richness to the work and combines effectively with stitch to give detail and texture.' Her work can be found in private collections around the world and in galleries from London to Sydney. Alison was born in Oswestry, Shropshire in 1956, the youngest of two girls, to Cyril and Brenda Holt who were garage proprietors. Her father died of a brain tumor when she was just 13 and her mother was left to raise her daughters. Her parents always supported her artistic interests and by the time Alison graduated from Oswestry Girls High School she had only one ambition which was to get into art college. From Shrewsbury Art School she was accepted into the prestigious Goldsmith College in London from where she graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art Textiles, specializing in Embroidery. By now her talent had already been recognized and she was immediately offered an exhibition and given commissions. She returned to Shropshire and began what was to become a parallel vocation in teaching at Wexham Art College. Alison married in 1993 and worked part time in her studio while raising her two boys Tom and Jonathan. For 40 years now Alison has built her business as a textile artist, which includes writing books about her practice and teaching courses at her home studio throughout the year. On this episode of Our American Stories, few people are aware that John Moses Browning—a tall, modest man born in 1855 and raised as a Mormon in the American West-- invented the mechanism used in virtually all modern pistols, created the most popular hunting rifles and shotguns, and conceived the machine guns introduced in World War I which dominated air and land battles in World War II. Nathan Gorenstein (author of The Guns of John Moses Browning: The Remarkable Story of the Inventor Whose Firearms Changed the World) is here to tell the story of this little-known American legend whose impact on history ranks with that of the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford. November is when we don our red poppies and remember our veterans, those who fought for Canada in war time. While November 11th is Remembrance Day across our country, November 8th is National Indigenous Veterans Day. Sargent Tommy Prince is one of Canada's most decorated Indigenous soldiers. We visited Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, Manitoba to learn more about the hero and the man. Students Kash Thompson, Micah Sinclair and Kendrick Bear give us an enthusiastic tour around and show us the humble monuments that bear this local hero's story. Gertrude and Bill Ballantyne regale us with stories about Sargent Prince's generosity and humour and his son Tommy Prince Junior shares his fondest memories of his dad. Even though Indigenous people across Canada were being denied rights as citizens during the great wars, many still chose to stand with the Crown. John Moses knows the minds and hearts of Indigenous soldiers on a personal and historical level. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces for five years and co-authored a Commemorative History of Aboriginal People in the Canadian Military. He discusses Indigenous soldiers' many motivations for enlisting and the impact their service had on their home communities. After decades lying in unmarked graves – the names of eight Indigenous veterans are now etched in stone. Earlier this year, The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte found and marked their resting places. Chief Donald Maracle of Tyendinaga Mohawk Council says they are taking action to make sure the soldiers are never forgotten again. Francis Pegahmagabow was one of the most highly decorated Indigenous soldiers. “Peggy,” as many called him, was from Wasauksing First Nation near Parry Sound, Ontario. He served as a marksman in the First World War and had over 300 enemy kills and captured 300 more. But back home, the Canadian government and its Indian agents made life difficult for Peggy. Decades after Pegahmagabow made history, a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people decided to tell his story through music. That group included Armand Garnet Ruffo, an Ojibway poet and professor at Queen's University and Brian McInnes, the war hero's great-grandson and the author of a book about his great-grandfather's life. Together they created Sounding Thunder: The Song of Francis Pegahmagabow, which debuted at Parry Sound's Festival of the Sound in 2018.
AFN National Chief RoseAnne Archibald says Indigenous Veterans Day is something all Canadians should recognize. Military historian John Moses talks about the complicated relationship Indigenous people have had with Canada's forces. That's on Nation to Nation.
Comedian Rich Vos joins ken and guest co-host John Moses to talk about the dumpster fire that was Woodstock '99. Rich, who was an MC for the festival on the west stage, compares how the performers were treated versus how the attendees, which included Ken and John, were treated. Why were bottles of water but not drugs confiscated? Why were the promoters, twenty years on, still trying to blame the performers for their mistakes? What do Rich and James Brown have in common? It's a fun one! Listen in!

Comedian John Moses, host of "Fight Stories" stops by to talk about the time Johnny Cash fought an eight foot ostrich and barely lived to tell about it. You gotta listen in to find out.
Originating as a USO activity created by Canadian Don Reid for World War II soldiers, The College Quiz Bowl was developed into a radio show by Reid and John Moses. It debuted on NBC in the fall of 1953. Two teams of All-American Varsity students from different universities competed for prizes and recognition. On Sunday, February 21st, 1954 at 6PM eastern time, the ladies of Smith College defended their title against the men of Washington and Lee University. Washington and Lee would win this evening and defend their title for five consecutive weeks until losing to Syracuse on March 28th. The College Quiz Bowl moved to CBS TV in 1955. In 1963 it moved to NBC where it remained on the air until 1970. Various non-televised versions of this competition continued to air into the 21st Century. In November of 2020 NBC announced a revival of the show. It premiered on June 22nd, 2021.
Comedian and actor Jimmy Shubert joins Ken and guest co-host John Moses to discuss what it was like working with and being mentored by comedy legend Sam Kinison. What was it about Sam that drew rock stars to him? How could you expect to get sober with Ozzy Osborne and Steven Tyler as your sponsors? What was touring with comedy's "Wild Thing" really like? Listen up and find out!

Yet few in America knew his name until he was into his sixties. Now, author Nathan Gorenstein brings firearms inventor John Moses Browning to vivid life in this riveting and revealing biography. Embodying the tradition of self-made, self-educated geniuses (like Lincoln and Edison), Browning was able to think in three dimensions (he never used blueprints) and his gifted mind produced everything from the famous Winchester "30-30" hunting rifle to the awesomely effective machine guns used by every American aircraft and infantry unit in World War II. The British credited Browning's guns with helping to win the Battle of Britain. His inventions illustrate both the good and bad of weapons.Sweeping, lively, and brilliantly told, this fascinating book introduces a little-known American legend whose impact on history ranks with that of the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford.HOST: Rob MellonFEATURED BREW: Hop Gun IPA, The Funky Buddha Brewery, Oakland Park, FloridaBOOK: The Guns of John Moses Browning: The Remarkable Story of the Inventor Whose Firearms Changed the Worldhttps://www.amazon.com/Guns-John-Moses-Browning-Remarkable/dp/1982129212/ref=sr_1_1?crid=N7U6KEH3A7FH&keywords=gorenstein&qid=1642394882&sprefix=gorenstein%2Caps%2C823&sr=8-1MUSIC: Bones Forkhttps://bonesfork.com/

When he was eight years old, Russell Moses had to leave his home on the Six Nations reserve and live at a residential school. It was 1942, and he and other children there were put to work as part of the civilian war effort. He eventually served in the Canadian military and saw active duty in the Korean War. Today, his son, Canadian Armed Forces veteran John Moses, would like more recognition for his father and other Indigenous people who were part of the war effort. He reflects on his father's legacy.

On both National and Local levels in America, we see truly disturbing and disheartening images of violence and death of our fellow citizens. And if one has cultivated empathy for the state of our country, then we mourn that death, whether they are a civilian or a police officer. When faced with the growing issues in this country, we immediately think not of how we can fuel the fire and add to the division but WHAT are the solutions, the innovations, re-structuring and re-learning we can all do to move forward together and make this world a better place for ALL of us? We are interested in presenting stories that allow us to walk a mile in each others shoes not choosing sides or dividing us further. Today we will speak with JOHN MOSES, the director of the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy, where they train new police officers. We discuss the issue of policing our communities, as we believe the future of our communities development rides on it.
Nathan Gorenstein joined The Protectors to talk about his new book THE GUNS OF JOHN MOSES BROWNING and his background in reporting. Can you believe the Browning M2 .50 cal is still in action! From the author: His biography chronicles the achievements of some of the most popular firearms in American history. With the current controversy surrounding gun ownership and usage, Gorenstein takes a refreshingly philosophical stance on Browning's work pointing out that “firearms indisputably occupy both ends of a moral spectrum starting at good and evil. A gun can save a life, or take a life, and can do either or both with a single shot at a single instant”.About the Author: Nathan Gorenstein is a former reporter and editor for The Philadelphia Inquirer, where he covered city and state politics and produced a wealth of groundbreaking work. He is also the author of Tommy Gun Winter, the story of a Boston gang from the 1930s that included an MIT graduate, a minister's daughter, and two of Gorenstein's own relatives. He competes in handgun sports, sometimes with a Browning 1911 pistol.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theprotectors)

On this episode of the Resistance Library Podcast, Sam and Dave talk about John Moses and the forgotten history and legacy of the father of modern firearms. John Moses Browning is known to firearms and Second Amendment enthusiasts primarily as a gunsmith, but he was more than that: He was also an inventor, an innovator, and perhaps one of the most successful firearm designers the world has ever seen. It's without question that he is the father of modern firearms as we know them. John Browning is arguably the man most responsible for modern firearms, including lever-action, pump-action, and auto-loading weapons. Browning was born into a Mormon settler family in Ogden, Utah, on January 23, 1855. His parents, Jonathan Browning and Elizabeth Clark, were Mormons who settled in Utah after the Mormon Exodus of 1847. A gunsmith himself, Jonathan often had young John in the shop alongside him, where the child learned concepts of manufacturing and engineering. The elder Browning also encouraged experimentation. By the age of 11, John had created his first firearm from castaway pieces and took it hunting, providing his family with three prairie chickens for the family's dinner. By the time he was 18, John Browning had taken over his father's business. In the spring of 1879, John married Rachel Teresa Child, who would eventually bear John 10 children, eight of whom survived infancy. On October 7th of that same year, John received the first of his 128 firearm patents, this one for the Browning Single Shot rifle. In 1880, John recruited his brothers and built what would become known as the Browning Arms Company. Although the business was successful, John was not satisfied. Rather than mass-producing firearms for commercial sale, Browning wanted to revolutionize the entire small arms industry. Comedian John Moses spent a week in Atlantic City gigging with Dean (and Harris), so it's only right that they sat down and tossed it up. They talk HBO vs. Showtime, recovering from addiction and the horrors of rooming with other comics. They also discuss the importance of lotioning and maintaining healthy skin and John teaches Dean what a "BABY BRAIN" is exactly. Say BAHUBALI! We In The Building, son!
