Jay and Kelly talk about what we got from our fathers, both good and bad. We also talk about the genius of George Carlin, living in the shadow of your parents, Crossroads School, Judd Apatow, taking care of you parents, the Emmy Awards, defining yourself, fans, wanting to make people laugh, and how pity sex is just fine. Kelly Carlin-McCall is an author, storyteller, depth psychologist, transformational coach and television producer. Her solo show, A Carlin Home Companion, was expanded and then published as a memoir by St. Martin's Press in 2015. Her television work includes being a producer of the showtime show, The Green Room with Paul Provenza, and in 2023, she won an Emmy as executive producer of the HBO documentary, George Carlin's American Dream. Her 20+ years of study and practice in Zen Buddhism, Co-Active Coaching and Imaginal Psychology are the foundation for her creative work and for her transformational programs through her Humans on the Verge community. She is proudly deeply involved in The National Comedy Center as an Industry Advisory Board member, and proud to be a Chautauquan since 2017 when she helped to launch the first ever comedy week hereEDITING NOTES: KELLY CARLIN I think incorrectly she helped stand ups. We can cut that out. .

In the time since Babs' last appearance on TCB Field Report, she has helped erect a venue in the backyard of the one and only Paul Provenza dubbed "The Green House" (via Paul's brilliant Showtime series The Green Room with Paul Provenza). Unlike the majority of shows that happen at a person's home or "house venues", there's such a plethora of wondrous comedy gatherings that happen at the sane space of The Green House and Babs details all of it as well as the journey it took to get to transforming a patch of gravel by a hot tub into a joyous place for comedy and comedy adjacent things. Follow Babs @babsromen on Twitter and @babsromen1316 on IG. Tickets for the live-stream of the latest Green with Paul Provenza (featuring special guest Doug Stanhope and others) on 6/17 are available at Nowhere Comedy here. I could honesty talk about comedy with Paul Provenza forever. He's not just a student of it he's an architect of the craft itself, and the appreciation of it as well as having an eye for it in the comedians he surrounds himself with and the ones that are drawn to him. There's so much thought and nuance and love that goes into a project he's involved with which is why comics trust that they're in good hands when they're working with Paul. We talk about his early beginnings as a comic, why he doesn't perform live as much as he used to, the trajectory of his career, The Green Room with Paul Provenza, Sataristas, The Aristocrats, his upcoming documentary, how comedy has changed and where it's headed, Richard Mulligan, producing, directing, editing, and the current level of Dystopia we're all trying to thrive in. Enjoy!
On the premiere episode of Stand-Up Memories we meet the hosts, seasoned comedians Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling and Peter Bales “Professor P” and learn a little about their history in the comedy scene throughout the years as well how they were influenced into comedy by family and by watching old comedy shows on TV. Jackie learned to play the guitar and got into music “to meet girls” and started doing comedy in between songs during gigs while Peter knew since the 11th grade that comedy was his calling. Learn about the origins of Jackie's catchphrase, “COME ON!” and how his friendship and correspondence with Gershon Legman, author of Rationale of the Dirty Joke, resulted in a visit by Penn Jillette and Paul Provenza to include Jackie in their documentary, The Aristocrats, about the famous off-color joke. Don't miss out on a lot of funny moments among these two as well as interesting insights and anecdotes of comedy throughout the years. If you have any love for comedy and its history, you can't miss out on watching this podcast!

Jeffrey Gurian is often called a “Renaissance man” and not because that's when he was born! (LOL) Jeffrey was the very first guest featured on the Outer Limits of Inner Truth radio show in 2014. He is a comedy writer, performer, director, author, producer, doctor and Healer. He was a Cosmetic Dentist and lecturer, with a D.D.S. degree from Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, and spent 12 years at the NYU School of Dentistry as a Clinical Prof. in the Oral Medicine/Oro-Facial Pain Department. He is very involved with Alternative Medicine and Energy Healing for most of his adult life. Jeffrey is also on the board of The Assoc. for Spirituality and Psychotherapy since 1999, and has lectured at several energy psychology conferences in this country and Canada. On the comedy side, he's written material for comedy legends such as Rodney Dangerfield, Joan Rivers, George Wallace, Phil Hartman, Richard Belzer, and Andrew “Dice” Clay, among many others. Jeffrey has performed stand-up at most of the big clubs in NY and L.A. and was featured several times on Comedy Central's hit Kroll Show with Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Amy Poehler, Seth Rogen, Laura Dern and Katy Perry. He was in the viral “Too Much Tuna” sketch and is also a regular on-air personality on Sirius XM's Bennington Show, where he also brings on special guests/friends like Russell Peters, Trevor Noah, Colin Quinn, Artie Lange, Susie Essman, D.L. Hughley, and Lisa Lampanelli. He writes a weekly column covering the comedy scene for The Interrobang called “Jumping Around with Jeffrey Gurian”, and has also written for MTV, National Lampoon, Weekly World News and many Friars Roasts. In 1999 he launched Comedy Matters, a celeb-based online entertainment column that has evolved into Comedy Matters TV, an internet TV channel with over 400 A-list celebrity interviews and well over 1.6 million views. He's produced shows starring Kevin Hart and Susie Essman, and according to Paul Provenza is known by everyone in comedy. As a comedian he's performed in all the major clubs in NY and LA and besides Comedy Central has been featured on AXS TV's Gotham Comedy Live. He was honored to have been given his own column in the legendary Weekly World News called “Gurian's World of the Bizarre”. That led to the creation of GNN (Gurian News Network) which brings you the most unusual stories in The Universe, missed by mainstream media. He claims to have not slept in many years in order to bring these stories to light! GNN is definitely your source for “All The News That's Fit To Dance To,”, … hence one of his new books “Man Robs Bank With His Chin!” And now he's thrilled to present his first book on “consciousness” combining his eclectic background and knowledge of Spirituality and Healing with his comedy background, and it's called “Healing Your Heart, By Changing Your Mind – A Spiritual and Humorous Approach to Achieving Happiness.” For more on Jeffrey and all that he does, visit Jeffrey's website at To see his Comedy Matters TV channel go to http://www.youtube.com/guriannewsnetwork
Paul Provenza is a comedian, actor, radio panelist, filmmaker and all around great guy based out of Los Angeles. Marty Younge (The Younge Modern) is comedy journalist/blogger based out of Toronto, Canada.
There are a lot of comedians whose work I'm partial to, but I have a special place in my pantheon for Garry Shandling. He was funny, unsparing, compassionate, psychologically acute and epistemologically astute all at once, an uneasy combination of entertainer and truth-seeker. When I learned of his untimely death on March 24, like many fans I felt bereaved, and I sought out someone to talk to who loved his work as much as I do: Paul Provenza. Paul is a comedian and a sort of comedy curator, chronicler and catalyst, and he was responsible for one of Garry's more memorable public appearances, which I was fortunate enough to attend thanks to Paul. We talked about Garry the person and the performer – and the complicated relationship thereof.
Tony and Gary talk comedy with stand-up great Paul Provenza, host of TV's "The Green Room" and "The Set List", and the director of the great comedy film "The Aristocrats". Paul gives us great, hilarious inside takes on all of those projects, and the guys get downright serious about the business of making people laugh. Plus, live stand-up from one of the guys' favorite comedians, the late, great, Mitch Hedberg. AND.....WHEN does water expire???
