This week, Ira spoke with writer, photographer, artist and philanthropist Michael Shulman. In this episode of “Talk About Las Vegas With Ira,” Michael talks about writing a compre-hensive history of Las Vegas entertainment residency for his website -https://www.shulmansays.com - (a version of this article was published in Business Traveler, August 2023); who the first residency headliner was (and this is going back to 1944); how it was originally an amenity to bring in the high roller; how the Rat Pack played a part; Elvis and his residency; why he (Michael) almost got kicked out of the Liberace Museum; the importance of the resident artist; how Celine Dion changed everything in the world of residencies; why Las Vegas is the residency capital of the world; how a residency is a win-win for both the casino and the entertainer; the audience comes to the entertainer rather than the other way around; what performer might have had “the most wonderful” connection with an audience; the most surprising thing he found in his research (and it has to do with Elvis); how strong country has become; the importance of production designers; the criteria for a residency; and the future of residencies.

BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOUR SINS, WAS BURIED, AND THAT GOD RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD. Believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and that God raised Jesus from the dead. This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was.C. CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD. This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was. Every single person who ever lived since Adam will bend their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings.
There's no question that Las Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world, and all through the city's history, it's played host to some of the most legendary acts of all time. Some names come to mind instantly, like The Rat Pack...Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Sammy Davis Jr. There's Mr. Las Vegas, Wayne Newton who's been headlining in Vegas since the mid-1960's. And of course, there's the King Of Rock N' Roll, Elvis Presley who sold out a record 636 shows at the International Hotel (later, the Las Vegas Hilton). But one performer made his mark on Las Vegas before any of those people. In fact, some would say he paved the way for not only past legends but the massive residencies that would come decades later. That performer is the one and only Liberace... My guest for this episode of the podcast is Claire White, the Director of Education at The Mob Museum in Downtown Las Vegas. Before she joined the Mob Museum, Claire spent several years working at the now-closed Liberace Museum, also in Las Vegas, where she learned all about the long & storied career of "Mr. Showmanship". It all began with a fourth grade field trip. Traveling to Jones Hall in Houston, TX, Myron Martin was exposed to the world of performing arts, and his world changed. Moving to Las Vegas to work with the Liberace Museum, Myron's journey would wend through a number of Las Vegas institutions, ending up with his being part of the team spearheading the effort to build a world-class, state-of-the-art performing arts center in downtown Las Vegas. In 2012, The Smith Center opened and over the first years of its existence changed the face of entertainment in the Entertainment Capital of the World. Then, the pandemic hit and like every other live performance space in the world, The Smith Center went dark. With the re-opening on the horizon, Myron shares what it's been like to lead a performing arts organization in one of the darkest time in history and how adding a dog to his life changed everything. What motivates people? Why do they do what they do? What does leadership actually mean in today's world? Good questions, right? That's what Cathy Brooks, thought. And it's why she created Talk, Unleashed – a new podcast of entirely candid conversations with fascinating people doing remarkable things. This weekly podcast will feature guests from arts and entertainment to business to technology to food to activism to politics (well, we'll see on that last one). Talk Unleashed invites these influencers to consider the things that have led to them to where they are, the lessons they've learned and how all those things can come together to create a better world. #UnleashedLeadership #TalkUnleashed #MyronMartin #TheSmithCenter #TheHydrantClub #DogTraining #CommunicationsCoaching #LeadershipCoaching #Las_Vegas

[audio mp3=“https://media.talkaboutlasvegas.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/22155303/Karan_Feder_122319.mp3”][/audio] This week, Ira spoke with Karan Feder, Guest Curator of Costume & Textiles at the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas, who’s been responsible for organizing and presenting showgirl exhibits featuring the original costumes from Les Folies Bergere and Jubilee. In this 30-minute episode of Talk About Las Vegas, Feder talks about her first encounter with Las Vegas costumes at the Liberace Museum; her decision to pursue her passion to curate the costumes from classic Las Vegas productions; the reason why there are so few costumes around from the original production of Les Folies Bergere; the historical contributions of Debbie Reynolds and Nancy Williams; and the most interesting character she has met in her search for Las Vegas show artifacts.
In this week's episode Braydon discusses the Bhangarh Fort in Rajasthan, India that backed onto a tiger sanctuary. Braydon talks about the legends and reported hauntings surrounding the fort. Was it all caused by a black magicians curse because of his obsessive love for Princess Ratnavati? Belinda continues the episode with the ghost of Liberace. There have been reported sightings of his spirit in his mansion/museum and the restaurant he use to own, now named Carluccio's in Las Vegas.EPISODE NOTES:Braydon covers the Bhangarh Fort in Rajasthan, India. While this place is in the top 35 most haunted places in India, an interesting fact is that it backs onto a tiger sanctuary. The fort was constructed in 1573 by the ruler of Amber from Kachwaha, Raja Bhagwant Das. He had built the fort for his son, Madho Singh who he fought alongside in many wars. After his demise, his son Chatr Singh became the next ruler but the kingdom declined following after the violent death of Chatr Singh. The famine of 1783 caused the town to become deserted and fell to ruins. The fort was passed down the Singh line until it came into the hands of another Madho Singh who then passed the ownership to the government. The government has restricted visiting the fort at night, is this due to the reported hauntings or is this due to the tigers just next door? We can't know for sure but the legends surrounding the area definitely raise some questions.According to a legend, a sadhu named Baba Balak Nath lived within the fort area, and it was his command that any houses built inside of the fort couldn't be taller than his house, and if the shadow of any such house fell on his house, it would result in destruction of the fort town. The other legend being, a wizard who practiced black magic fell in love with Ratnavati, a beautiful Bhangarh princess. One day, the wizard followed her to the marketplace and offered her a love potion, however she refused it, throwing it onto a large boulder that consequently rolled onto the wizard and crushed him to death.Visitors and locals claim to have heard women screaming and crying, bangles breaking and strange music coming from the fort. There have been instances of a special perfume also emanating from the Bhangarh Fort along with ghostly shadows and unexplained lights. People have also been slapped and walked alongside apparitions without even noticing.Even the famous stick around after they pass away. Liberace is one of them! At the peak of his career, Liberace was the highest paid entertainer in the world. He even had residencies in Las Vegas as well as an International touring schedule. His life was full of events including the time when an employee of his mansion museum was held hostage when closing for the day. After his death at age 67 due to AIDs in 1987, his presence continued on living. His spirit seems to be attached the his mansion museum and the restaurant he once owned called Liberace's Tivoli Gardens, now named Carlucci's. The restaurant was once located right across from the Liberace Museum but has since been relocated. Many claims have come out of the restaurant of patrons and staff seeing his spirit peering in the banquet room windows. As well as claims of knocking at the back service door, bottles falling down around the bar and even a large tree in a planter falling down after someone said something offensive about Liberace. There was also an instance on Liberace's birthday where the power went out and didn't come back on until the staff sang happy birthday. The following day an electrician came around and checked out everything and found nothing wrong. No one else on the street lost power that night either. The restaurant was soon relocated in 2011.When the Liberace Museum was undergoing some renovations there was a shadowy figure that appeared to watch over all the changes. Many crew members would see it and it was as if the ghost was making sure nothing was damaged or stolen. Others say they saw a man lounging by the pool with big hair and a thin moustache, as well as accounts of music coming from a piano that no one had played in many years. Employees claimed to have seen his sister-in-law's spirit around the museum as well. The museum was closed in 2010 but as of April 7, 2016 Liberace's cars, a piano and several costumes are on display at Liberace's Garage in Las Vegas. If you wanted to follow us on social media, we can be found on: Facebook, and on Instagram You, Me, and a Poltergeist, Braydon, BelindaCHECK OUT ALL THE OTHER PODCAST ON TNC: THATSNOTCANON.COM

Sazzy and I are back and alone…. But not for long. The Chip-N-Dale magnet is coming back!! So we wanted to get a show in quickly before that event hits town. This weekend, as Las Vegas panders to the Al Gore tree hugger's by turning off the lights on the Strip for one hour on Saturday; We at The Vegas Tourist believe this publicity stunt should not be wasted and that all people not buying into the hype should do just the opposite. Turn every light you have on for one hour between 8:30-9:30 pm In other TVT Updates: The classic Mint 400 desert race is coming up. And Sazzy will be out in the desert trying to catch a few racers in action. This race dates back to the late 1960's and was a great example of how Vegas promoted itself by being a little bit different than your ordinary tourist town. Liberace Museum celebrates 30 years of bling. Check out the true King of the Bling and why this is still one of the top tourist attractions in Las Vegas. Ebay founder and Las Vegas resident is one of the top water users in Las Vegas
The girls went to see the sparkle, glitz and glam of a Las Vegas legend at the Liberace Museum. From 200 lb. rhinestone encrusted costumes to rings the size of matchbox cars, there was definitely enough sparkle to go around.
