Trumpet virtuoso Wayne Bergeron, one of the most respected and sought-after musicians in the world, joins Ira for an engaging conversation ahead of his appearance with the Jazz Vegas Orchestra in Myron's at The Smith Center on June 17. In this fascinating episode, Wayne reveals the unexpected path that led him to the trumpet—even though it wasn't his first instrument—and how a surprising act of vandalism helped shape his future. He discusses why he wasn't a natural musician, his early desire to play in a rock band, and the influential band directors who helped guide his career. Wayne also shares how his admiration for legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson eventually led to joining Ferguson's band, what he learned from the iconic performer, and why he immediately slipped into “fanboy mode” when they first met. He offers behind-the-scenes stories about recording at Capitol Records, explains why Michael Bublé is a seasoned veteran despite his age, and discusses the unique pressures of performing—revealing why he feels completely calm as a studio sideman but still gets nervous when stepping into the spotlight as a featured artist. In this engaging conversation, Jon reflects on a lifelong relationship with music that began at the piano as a child. Coming from a musical family—his father and grandfather were musicians—weekly lessons were simply part of growing up. Now a father himself, Jon shares why he won't push music on his daughters, even though they already love the pi-ano. Jon also talks about the professor (Jonathan Brooks) who profoundly influenced his musical thinking while he attended Anderson University, helping him realize that music could be both simple and deeply personal. That realization helped shape the songwriting style that has become his signature. In the conversation, Jon discusses why lyrics matter so much to him, how he finds creative inspiration by forcing himself to listen to new music, and what he calls finding “the office”—that focused place where songwriting happens. He also shares stories about the first time he knew his career path was the right one, the thrill of his first sold-out show in Denver, and the powerful moments when fans tell him how much his music means to them. Plus, Jon talks about the song from his current album, "Scenarios" that resonates most with listeners—“Acting”—and what it's like preparing for his first performance in Las Vegas. This week on “Talk About Las Vegas With Ira,” Ira welcomes Nashville-based singer-songwriter Phillip-Michael Scales, performing at Myron's at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts on February 27 at 7 p.m. In this engaging conversation, Phillip-Michael opens up about the work ethic he describes as “born out of impatience”—a relentless inner drive that pushes him to keep creating, evolving, and refining his craft. Part methodical, part soulful storyteller, he shares how that balance shapes both his music and his career. From his blues-infused debut album Sinner-Songwriter to the vibrant bounce and soul of Good to Be Here, Phillip-Michael explains his artistic progression and why moving to Nashville was the next natural step in his creative journey. “I respect the old and love the feeling of the old,” he says, “but bringing something new to it is the artist's desire.” He also talks candidly about wanting to perform original material rather than relying on cover songs, why mentorship requires real investment, and his belief that “competence breeds confidence.” Grounded by the unwavering support of his parents, Phillip-Michael is carving his own lane—honoring tradition while boldly shaping the future of his music. This episode is about ambition, artistry, and building something authentic—note by note. (Also Watch Full Podcast Video)

Inside Carolina's Rob Harrington joins Tommy Ashley to break down the bad performance put on by North Carolina down in Miami on Tuesday night. Carolina lost 75-66 to an inspired Hurricanes team that dominated the Tar Heels on the boards and in the paint and erased any good momentum Hubert Davis's team had after being rival Duke on Saturday. Harrington and Ashley discuss the poor start and the brutally bad shooting performances by UNC's guards - Derek Dixon and Seth Trimble. Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar could not carry the load against the Miami bigs, combining for just 23 points and 12 rebounds on the game. How can the Heels find consistency? Will Hubert Davis alter his approach in an effort to find that consistency that has been evasive over his tenure in Chapel Hill?
