POPULARITY
I try not to play favourites, but this week's guest may be the most extraordinary human I've ever interviewed. Diane Dupuy is the founder of Famous PEOPLE Players, a Black Light theatre company where the performers are individuals with physical and developmental disabilities. On stage, they become invisible, allowing life-sized puppets to dance, dazzle, and delight the audience. Offstage, they find purpose, dignity, and a chance to be part of something magical. In this profoundly moving episode, Diane shares how she turned her childhood trauma, learning challenges, and rejection by society into a purpose-driven life. Famous PEOPLE Players is her ever-burning flame of inclusion, artistry, and belief in human potential. From being discovered by Liberace—who invited the troupe to open for him in Las Vegas—to receiving support from Paul Newman, Senator Ted Kennedy, and even a standing ovation from Phil Collins, Diane's journey is one of sheer will and unstoppable passion. No funding? She finds a way. Border blocks? She calls the White House. Criticism? She answers with applause. But today, this company which has changed so many lives is fighting to keep its lights on. With no government funding, they rely solely on ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships. If this episode moves you—and it will—share it. And if you can, support the show that refuses to stop, because for Diane Dupuy and her PLAYERS, the show must go on. And please stay to hear what Andrea Barrack, from RBC, has to say about the role that organizations can play in creating a better world. Visit famouspeopleplayers.com. Help keep the curtain up. “I'm in the Jailhouse Now” was the biggest hit for one of the most iconic honky-tonk singers of all time, Webb Pierce. This man wore more rhinestones than Liberace's coffee table and had a voice smoother than Tennessee whiskey. Webb didn't just play country music, he lived it. Music expert Joel Whitburn joins me in this interview. So, pour yourself a glass and get ready for a ride through the golden age of country with the man who brought the twang to town.
Matthew Lesko, the OG Question Mark Suit Guy, crashes into the podcast with more energy than a double espresso. He rants, raves, and revolutionizes your idea of money—turns out the real flex isn't making millions, it's knowing where the free millions are hiding. From teaching you how to scam the system (legally) to exposing Google as a capitalist swamp, Matthew drops truth bombs, charts, and dad jokes like it's his cardio. Somewhere between flaming capitalism and hugging community help desks, he makes you laugh, think, and maybe—just maybe—finally apply for that free rent grant you never knew existed. Oh, and his fashion sense? Liberace meets Mr. Rogers on acid. You're welcome.Matthew Lesko's Info:YouTubeMy Info: Instagram OR YouTubeReview Me on AppleShare a Link to My Podcast

Maino is out recovering from a bit of surgery, so long-time Northeast Wisconsin native and broadcast journalist Connie Fellman joins Jim for this morning's show. Connie is from Shawano, lives in Green Bay and has been part of the media for many years. She started at channel 26, moved to WLUK 11, and was most recently at WFRV 5. We found out that she loves Melissa Etheridge and that Jim doesn't know who that is. (He's a huge fan of Liberace and Bobby Vinton, so we guess that makes sense.) Maino and the Mayor is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs Monday through Friday from 6-9 am on WGBW in Green Bay and on WISS in Appleton/Oshkosh.

Click here to send us a message! This week we're taking a look at two very different queer icons. Musical geniuses Freddie Mercury and Liberace each got the biopic treatment in the 2010's, and each got very different treatment. Behind the Candelabra starred Oscar winners Michael Douglas and Matt Damon and was directed by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh. Despite the pedigree, only HBO would release it. Bohemian Rhapsody, by contrast, despite a troubled production and a problematic filmmaker, somehow won four Academy Awards in 2019.
A chronicle of the tempestuous six-year romance between megastar singer Liberace and his young lover Scott Thorson. Steven Soderbergh. 2013.
¿Farsa o supervivencia? ¿Autoengaño o genialidad? Vosotres decidís.
Pig in a blanket? Jack and Corey are joined by writer/comedian/podcaster Mark Rennie (Gay of Thrones, Eat Pray Dunk, 2 Old Queens) to talk Steven Soderbergh's wild and underseen bio-oic, BEHIND THE CANDELABRA (2013)! The three talk Liberace, gift shop purchases, ants on a log (frogs on a log), 4k Blurays, HBO erotica, Michael Douglas' floating head, Matt Damon's boney legs, Scott Bacula's gay roles, Betwixt The Flix, palatial kitsch, Rob Lowe's taped up face, The California Diet, Nosferatu, good double features, book clubs, The Palm Dog Award, Bio Check, Magic Mike Live, directors retiring, and bio-pics that Jack likes.Support the pod by joining our Patreon at patreon.com/cinemapossessedpod and unlock the Cinema Possessed Bonus Materials, our bi-monthly bonus episodes where we talk about more than just what's in our collection!Instagram: instagram.com/cinemapossessedpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@cinemapossessedpodEmail: cinemapossessedpod@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. If you grew up in or around the bizarro state of Rhode Island, you might remember the Warwick Musical Theatre. For decades, this tent-style venue (with a rotating circular stage in the middle) hosted concerts, comedy, musicals, and even wrestling. (Guess how many times Liberace performed there. No, you're low. Guess again.) And back in the 80s, this is where some of us first saw Weird Al, the Monkees, and oh yeah, Air Supply. So let's take a look at the whole wild history of the Warwick tent, which alas, has been gone for about a quarter century. (These days a giant hardware store is there, in case you need 8,000 hammers.) But in our hearts, Laura Branigan and Billy Ocean are playing there RIGHT NOW. The Flopcast website! The ESO Network! The night before the very first Wrestlemania, Mr. T and Hulk Hogan drop by to host the show together...except they mostly don't. It was supposed to be Steve Landesberg but he had to drop out for reasons. I guess? He's still a special guest though, as well as Liberace, Bob Orton Jr. and Rowdy Roddy Piper. I know I say this a lot, but this is an ODD one. It's basically a host-less episode, one of the rare episodes with no Update and the best moments of the show coming from places you would least expect them. And you get The Commodores post Lionel Richie, which is sadly, not great.
Crazy winds and rain start the day, and snow is expected. We guess winter isn't over yet! It's Cheese Doodle Day, Absinthe Day, and Ash Wednesday. This week is also Veterans' Week and Chocolate Chip Cookie Week. More talk about Lent, and Pączkis somehow rolls into whether or not anyone likes prunes. That turns into a Quick Poll and we find out that 75% of Maino & The Mayor listeners do NOT like prunes. Then, another poll was conducted on the type of tattoo Jim should get. The winner: Liberace on his buttocks! Nick Slupski from The Dog House also joins the show to shoot the bull! That Show Hasn't Been Funny In Years: an SNL podcast on Radio Misfits
Nick welcomes fellow film critic Peter Sobczynski to the podcast for a deep dive into his Saturday Night Live memories, from his childhood introduction to the show to his favorite cast members and standout moments. They also count down Peter's five favorite SNL sketches of all time—many of which share a horror-inspired, darkly comedic streak. Highlights include Dan Aykroyd's hilariously gruesome Julia Child, Gilda Radner as a terrified child facing a closet-dwelling fiend, and Bill Hader's Vincent Price struggling to wrangle Jon Hamm's James Mason and Fred Armisen's Liberace. Peter also reveals his favorite SNL line of all time and reflects on how his freshman year of high school coincided with one of the show's strangest seasons. A fun and insightful conversation with a talented colleague, packed with great SNL nostalgia! [Ep109]

In the movie Deadpool and Wolverine they say that their Wolverine is the worst Wolverine because he got drunk once at the wrong time. The Plumbing Boys find that unsatisfactory. Surely there's a worse Wolverine than that, gotta be. Zammit imagines a Wolvie who kept his chauffer license and loves his job, Jackson creates the greatest Plumbing riff of all time, and Duscher performs many incredible one man plays to the delight and frustration of his two friends.
