Party Favorz is back with our latest Funky House set, Funktastical Disco 2025, where future funk meets the dancefloor — and boy, does this one pack a punch! This episode brings pure energy from start to finish. It's a sonic journey through Disco House, Soul Funk, Nu Disco, and Big Room House, with every track shimmering in glitter and groove. Expect a full-on celebration of rhythm, packed with clever lyric samples pulled from iconic songs of the past. You'll probably recognize a few of them, but if you get stumped, drop me an email and I'll fill in the blanks. The Art of Sampling and a Soulful Nod Let's kick it off with the opening track — an absolute gem. Shabi delivers a fierce update of Loleatta Holloway's “I Need Someone,” one of her lesser-known mid-80s songs that leaned more electronic than her classic disco sound. The original was by Live Element and is overflowing with those trademark Holloway ad-libs we all know and love. Shabi doesn't use them all, but the ones he does highlight are unmistakable. The result is a full-bodied Disco House stomper that turns nostalgia into pure, floor-shaking energy. If you haven't heard the original, do yourself a favor and hunt it down — it's a time capsule of mid-80s electronica that still feels ahead of its time. Refining the Groove While Funktastical Disco 2025 was wrapped a week ago, I ended up taking the scalpel to it. The original mix was longer, but it needed serious trimming — some tracks just didn't measure up to the Party Favorz standard. Thankfully, several fresh releases dropped just in time last Friday, and after swapping out about ten filler cuts, the final result hits harder, flows better, and keeps that high-voltage funky pulse alive throughout. The mix does take a few smoother Funky House turns, giving brief moments to catch your breath before diving right back into that fiery groove. It's relentless, bold, and built for anyone who lives for that feeling when the bassline hits just right. A Tribute to Ron Carroll Before closing out, I want to take a moment to honor a true legend of 90s House Music — Ron Carroll, who recently passed away. His influence shaped generations of producers and vocalists, and he was still giving us gold this year through both his remixes and collaborations. To pay tribute, I chose one of his final powerhouse tracks, “What A Wonderful World” by Bob Sinclar & Axwell, featuring Ron's unmistakable vocals, to close out the set. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=579pmr9qpGs The message couldn't be more fitting given everything going on in the world right now. It's a reminder that even through the chaos, there's beauty and unity in music. I'd like to think Ron would have approved of this one. So, lace up those platform boots, grab your drink of choice, and let the glitter rain down — because Funktastical Disco 2025 is everything the name promises and more. Until the next time...ENJOY! Not one of my usual disco routines but in fact a set list I found from 2005 which I have re-created and mixed up all over again. Part 1 was the prime-time set and this second part pushes up the tempo a notch which would have been happening from around 3am onwards. This collection kicks off with Shakedown's classic "At night" and goes on a musical journey including Spiller, Live Element, DJ Sandy vs House Trap, Joey Negro, Praise Cats, Barthezz, York, Safri Duo, and Dario G. If you're listening in the UK I hope you enjoy your holiday weekend, and here and everywhere elsewhere in the world, I'm sending you love, peace, and beautiful music. Enjoy and thanks for listening. If you do enjoy it please leave a review on iTunes. And keep in touch at fmonday@hotmail.com Keep well, stay safe, and see you soon. Mixed with love in London. XX F*
Dominant. Revered. RESPECTED. When you talk about Loleatta Holloway, these are some of the adjectives used when people discuss her legacy. Never duplicated but often imitated and ad nauseum. Considered the Queen of Salsoul in the mid-70s and early 80s, Loleatta has had more DJs sample her music than any other artist in modern history. Well known for her ad-lib prowess during recording sessions, Miss Holloway would get on a roll during the drop and just keep going and going. It was fitting that Gold Mine (a subsidiary of Salsoul Records) included the full eleven-minute version of Hit and Run on her third album, where at the end you hear the producer say “okay, now let's do the album version.” By themselves, Love Sensation and Dreaming are classic songs permanently etched into the annals of disco history. Picked apart, these songs have provided some of the most memorable recreations of entirely new dance floor mayhem from the 90s through today. Love Sensation has gone on to be the most sampled song in the last 30 years, further proving it's singular importance to the genre which propelled it to the top of the charts. In 1991, producer Dan Hartman (Relight My Fire; Love Sensation) and Loleatta sued UK act Black Box for using her vocals without permission on their worldwide hit Ride On Time. They ultimately settled for an undisclosed amount and Loleatta was given full credit on subsequent pressings of the album. Despite considering herself a ballad singer (Cry To Me; Worn Out Broken Heart) there is no doubt the important role Miss Holloway played in the disco genre, which ultimately bled into 90s house music. For a thorough recount of Loleatta Holloway, avoid the rather lame Wikipedia entry about her life and jump on over to the excellent obituary from the UK's Independent. Borrowing from the saying “there is more than one way to skin a cat,” there is no doubt Miss Holloway will continue to pop-up in deliciously new dance floor incarnations from time to time. This is a true testament to her Diva stature. Miss Holloway, we honor your memory. This is the re-boot edition of the original Diva Series honoring Loleatta Holloway I created in 2010 and reissued in 2011 after her death. Apparently, some guy from France on house-mixes.com shamelessly stole my original mix and claimed it as his own dedicating it to her life and memory. Given the issues surrounding her lawsuit with Black Box, I found humor in the analogous nature between the two. Latest release for this month is a high energy mix of vocal house. This is a little different than the normal mixes I do, say a little more devilish but still has the funky vibe on it. We start off with a legend who is probably the number one leading disco vocalist ever - Loleatta Holloway providing us with the classic stand up. Production duo Live Element have reworked the classic vocal scats and song of this dance floor gem into a driving peak hour anthem which you can find on Gossip Records. Other tracks to look out for are Grade A Bitch by Jacques Bauer with Chris Kaeser providing the remix and my favourite of the lot Need To Feel Loved by Reflekt with eSQUIRE providing us with this remix. Please feel free to get in touch or leave comments its much appreciated.
