Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
What is up? Ben here. Another Drum Panel this week powered by Big Fat Snare Drum. This one's with Eric Urrea and E-MAN. We got into studio vs live drumming, why some players obsess over the grid, and whether modern editing has actually made people more musical…or just safer. E-Man had a great point about how at a certain level, everybody can already play close to the click. What actually separates people is sound. The way the drums feel in the room. The way the snare reacts in the verse versus the chorus. The weird little details that actually make a performance feel human. We also talked about: Why a little ugliness in drumming can actually make things feel better Punching in takes vs forcing full performances The reality that basically everybody is getting “fixed” in modern recordings The one cymbal E-MAN would steal from jazz history if he could Goosebumps moments from Nicole Scherzinger, Blink-182, and Dagny Whether any of us ever really stop trying to sound like our heroes Kenny Aronoff's weird tom setup and the chaos of panning it in the studio --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!
Olivia Wilde is all over the internet and Chef Stu and Zack Peter cannot stop talking about it — the weight loss, the buggy eyes, and the Adderall vs. Ozempic debate that has everyone spiraling. Plus, Erika Jayne keeps making headlines and both hosts agree she needs to take the Anne Hathaway approach and disappear for a while before the memes consume her entirely. The guys also break down the Pussycat Dolls' reportedly struggling 53-date reunion tour (only three members, no urgency, and Nicole Scherzinger is the only one who ever mattered anyway), weigh in on Barry Keoghan finally breaking his silence about the Sabrina Carpenter cheating rumors, and recap the latest from The Valley — including Kristen and Luke's crumbling relationship and whether Janet is finally, maybe, starting to take accountability. All that plus Chef Stu's very controversial new Coach bag, a Chanel barefoot heel-cap situation nobody asked for, and early planning for a Chef Stu x Zack Peter group trip to Europe. Pop fans, it's time to loosen up them buttons for a big fun nostalgic trip back to The Pussycat Dolls' world! We are revisiting the iconic 2005 debut album "PCD", which gave us a string of iconic hits, music videos and live performances that remain on high rotation 20+ years on! 'Don't Cha', 'Buttons', 'Beep', 'Stickwitu', 'I Don't Need A Man', 'Wait A Minute' - and more including the soundtrack gems like 'Sway'. We're getting into all of that!Plus, Joel and David take you into through the birth and evolution of The Pussycat Dolls - from a modern burlesque show conceptualised by Robin Antin in 1995, through to the celebrity guest performers in the early days (Carmen Electra, Christina Applegate, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani etc) and how they became a full-fledged world dominating pop group.Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt, Carmit Bachar, Jessica Sutta and Melody Thornton were introduced to us as a fun, confident girl gang we all wanted to be part of and aspired to be. From the sexy-meets-street fashion through to the powerful choreography and vocals; they inspired a whole generation of girl groups like KATSEYE and Little Mix. "PCD" featured collaborations with some of the pop R&B world's biggest hitmakers including Timbaland, will.i.am, Cee-Lo Green, Keri Hilson, Diane Warren, Kara Dioguardi, Rich Harrison and more. The Pussycat Dolls are back on tour this summer across North America before coming to the UK and Europe in Autumn for the "PCD Forever" tour! The Pussycat Dolls are back, but a lot has happened since we last covered them. In Part 2 of our PCD POP 101, we pick up right where we left off: the lawsuit between Nicole Scherzinger and founder Robin Antin, what all six members got up to during the legal fallout, and how Nicole quietly became a Tony Award-winning Broadway star in the middle of it all. Then in March 2026, the Pussycat Dolls announced their return as a trio with Nicole, Ashley and Kimberly, new single "Club Song" and a 53-date global PCD Forever Tour. But Carmit Bachar, Jessica Sutta and Melody Thornton weren't invited. And not all of them found out before the public did.We break down the full story: the court filings, the pay disparity, the blindsided members, the viral Today Show moment, and what it all means for one of the biggest girl groups of the 2000s.Join us on Patreon!: https://www.patreon.com/CCTVPOPSFollow us on social media: https://linktr.ee/cctvpops0:00 - Intro0:56 - Robin and Nicole's Lawsuits14:18 - What did everyone get up to?32:55 - The 2026 Reunion & "Club Song"47:57 - Carmit & Jessica speak out52:12 - And meanwhile, Melody...57:27 - What's next for the Pussycat Dolls?References:“Club Song” Lyric Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmXBI1NH07E&pp=ygUNcGNkIGNsdWIgc29uZw%3D%3D“Club Song” Dance https://www.instagram.com/p/DWT1CugkVVP/ “Club Song” Dance 2 https://www.instagram.com/p/DV4GnwTD0JQ/ Jessica on The Maverick Approach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsCE7beVEjc&t=2832s&pp=ygUQamVzc2ljYSBtYXZlcmljaw%3D%3D Today Show Interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNu1dSmZZ7I&pp=ygUOcGNkIHRvZGF5IHNob3c%3D Melody Thornton - “I Will Always Love You” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grtZ6LYEpoM&pp=ygUZbWVsb2R5IHRob3JudG9uIGJvZHlndWFyZA%3D%3D

We all face rejection, no matter who we are. In this episode we revisit conversations with two extraordinary women who have faced rejection and overcome it: Spice Girl Mel B opens up about her unsuccessful audition for The Sound of Music and the pain of feeling like she didn't fit the mould because of how she looked while Nicole shares what life was like before the Pussycat Dolls - the endless auditions, doors slammed-shut and the struggle to land her big break. Hearing these stories from women who have gone on to achieve so much is a powerful reminder that feelings of doubt and fears around not being ‘enough' are universal. But as Mel and Nicole remind us, the true test of character is in how we respond to them. On either side of the Atlantic, from Keanu Reeves and George Clooney to Bryan Cranston and Nicole Scherzinger, the theatre industry has been no stranger to celebrity casting. It perhaps isn't a surprise, then, that The Stage newspaper ran two opposing opinion pieces about whether or not this type of stunt casting was in fact damaging the industry on a fundamental level.Through these differing perspectives, Mickey-Jo is at long last unpacking the conversation around celebrities on stage and discussing the positive and negative implications of their casting...•00:00 | introduction02:51 | the problem12:29 | industry challenges20:49 | the rebuttal29:51 | the conclusionAbout Mickey-Jo:As one of the leading voices in theatre criticism on a social platform, Mickey-Jo is pioneering a new medium for a dwindling field. Pop fans, get those lip liners and leather trousers ready because this girl group special is taking us to the 90s *and* early 2000s! We are celebrating Fergie and Nicole Scherzinger's original girl groups - Wild Orchid and Eden's Crush - in the first US edition of our 'Lost Girl Bands' series. Prepare for wall-to-wall diva vocals, killer harmonies and zesty tunes! Before Fergie and Scherzy became pop icons as part of the biggest selling groups of the 2000s - The Black Eyed Peas and Pussycat Dolls - they had quite a rollercoaster ride with their respective girl groups. 90s pop R&B trio Wild Orchid was made up of Stacey Ferguson, Stefanie Ridel and Renee Sandstrom. Think big diva vocals, 90s supermodel glam and fun hun energy. In 1997, their soulful pop banger 'Talk To Me' made them a force to be reckoned with in the US and abroad. The trio launched two albums "Wild Orchid" (with the singles 'At Night I Pray' and 'Supernatural') and "Oxygen" in the 90s, and also toured with Cher and N*Sync! In 2000, "Popstars" the reality TV sensation hit America and spawned the quintet Eden's Crush - produced by legendary hitmaker David Foster. Meet Ana Maria Lombo, Ivette Sosa, Maile Misajon, Nicole Scherzinger and Rosanna Tavarez. The 2001 debut album "Popstars" sold half a million in America and made No.6 on the Billboard 200, featuring the spicy Top 10 hit single 'Get Over Yourself'.If you love girl groups and hidden pop gems - check out Episode 85 [Lost Girl Bands Vol.1 - Mini Viva, Dolly Rockers and Girls Can't Catch] and Episode 96 [Lost Girl Bands Vol. 2 - Neon Jungle, Parade and SoundGirl]!Follow Right Back At Ya!https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/https://twitter.com/rightbackpodhttps://www.facebook.com/rightbackpodFollow Joelhttps://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/https://twitter.com/DR_JoelBFollow Davidhttps://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/https://twitter.com/lovelimmyEmail us rightbackpod@gmail.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
