Beach House 2024 has everything for House Music lovers, including straight-up House, Disco House, Latin House, Tech House, and Afro House, all seamlessly blended into a smoothie mix perfect for pool and beach parties. From the fabulous opening piano chords on the David Penn remix of "Our Love (80s)" by Yours to the sweat-inducing "Body Next To Mine" by Alex Adair and Bottom Up, this summer Funky House set hits all the right notes. A personal favorite is "Post That (Shit)" by Deon Cole and Terry Hunter. This track exudes a vogue vibe, beckoning listeners to post their poses to social media while enjoying a very Salsoul Records feel. The Chicago callout reminds us that the city is the birthplace of House Music. Mark Lower and Alexandra Prince give us a summery cocktail spin on "Paradise," a remake of the Sade classic. Tyshawn Colquitt remakes the disco classic "Spank" with DJ Spen adding a faithful garage mix, complete with horns. Armand Van Helden updates his early Millennium classic "My My My" with the uncredited Tara McDonald on vocals, creating another personal favorite. Meanwhile, Simon Fava, Yvvan Back & Cumbiafrica bring "The Heat" with their Latin Tech House track, which is currently topping many playlists. Another standout is "Move On Up" by Curtis Mayfield, with the incomparable Mark Knight performing remix duties. I didn't realize that the "Superfly" guy originally sang this song. Destination took it to #1 on the Disco charts in 1979, and Knight gives the original Soul/Funk version the Disco treatment, using Mayfield's original vocals. It's absolutely uplifting! DJ Ritmo Latino's "Ritmo Latino" is one of several Latin House songs included here that lend a salsa vibe laid over a house beat. Yvvan Back and Afterman deliver the Tech House track "Who's That Girl," which, with its Latin House delivery, belongs here more than on any Tech House set, where it's currently riding high. Finally, two other favorites are "Ain't Got No" by KPD and David Penn. The upbeat bounce of the song contrasts with the singer's declaration that she "ain't got nobody," a weird pairing that just works. Equally, Serge Funk's "Please Don't Leave" delivers a satisfying early 70s vibe laid over a Disco House beat that, contrary to the singer's plea, makes you elated and eager to dance. Believe it or not, I knocked out Beach House 2024 in one sitting, aiming for a carefree, open vibe to accompany the music, and it just melted together like butter! Beach House 2024 is your summer soundtrack to plain ole fun.

Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of Salsoul Records, perhaps the most recogniseably sampled catalogue in the history of disco. The label name came from the US urban latino community who were listening to a mash-up of salsa and soul, and it was established by brothers Joseph, Kenneth and Stan Cayre. They created a disco genre which was influenced by Philadelphia International, in fact they hired some of Philadelphia's musicians to help develop their own signature uplifting orchestral strings and brass sound. That sound is perhaps best exemplified by the many tracks recorded by The Salsoul Orchestra, who also backed many of their other artists. And in this special mix you'll hear many of the Salsoul Orchestra's best performances. Enjoy over an hour of my Salsoul favourites, given nu disco makeovers by some great DJs and producers including Dr Packer, Dmitri from Paris, The Reflex, Dave Lee, and Loshmi. ENJOY. The Ladies of SKYY have the distinction of being the last sister-trio still performing together in classic entertainment. Denise, Dolores and Bonné Dunning are the original female vocalists who provided the sensual signature sound of the R&B band SKYY. The sisters joined forces with Solomon Roberts, Jr. (producer, songwriter, drummer, guitarist), Anibal “Booche” Sierra (lead guitarist), and Gerald Lebon (bassist) in 1979. SKYY set themselves apart from other bands of that time with their space-age inspired costumes and a Brooklyn inspired sound. SKYY recorded ten albums and performed on several tours with A-list artists between 1979 and 1993 under Salsoul, Capitol and Atlantic Records. They appeared on numerous television shows, including Soul Train, American Bandstand, Showtime at the Apollo, Solid Gold and BET'S Video Soul with Donny Simpson. They also appear in a commercial for Schlitz Malt Liquor with the Drifters. Their music can be heard in the soundtracks of two movies, “Action Jackson” and “Beauty Shop.” Their biggest chart position was achieved in 1982 when the Salsoul Records album “SKYYLINE” was certified gold and reached #1 album status on the R&B charts and #18 on the Pop charts. SKYY's legacy was chronicled in their TVOne Unsung episode which aired on March 15, 2020, the day the world stood still. The show highlighted the group's top hits, Call Me, Start of a Romance, Let's Celebrate, Here's To You and Real Love, and was a sentimental reminder of the impact their career had on their fans during that magical musical era of the 80's and 90's. After SKYY recorded its final album in 1992, the sister-trio emerged as Ladies of SKYY. For over four decades, their dynamic vocals and captivating stage shows have upheld the legacy of the band's funky and infectious sound, keeping their music alive in the hearts and souls of their fans. These ladies have bridged the gap between generations of music lovers and their longevity has earned them their rightful place among the founding females of the disco, dance, soul, funk, hip hop and R&B musical genres. Salsoul Records will Re-Release of SKYY's Classic Album SkyyLine on January 20th 2023. Salsoul Records recently launched the Disco Essentials vinyl series, re-introducing the classic hits from its catalogue of soul, disco, and funk artists that listeners grew to love from the 70s and 80s. Originally released in 1981, SkyyLine was the Brooklyn- based group's fourth album. Hit singles include ‘Let's Celebrate,' ‘When You Touch Me,' and the mainstream success, ‘Call Me' (which came in at number one on the US Billboard Black Singles and number three on the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts). The Ladies of SKYY believe that the re-release of the album, SkyyLine, will introduce a new audience to the Funk/ R & B sounds that have heavily influenced both club and hip-hop, bridging the gap between generations of music lovers. In celebration of this momentous occasion, the remaining original members of SKYY are set to unite for a reunion concert for one night only, produced by AKW Enterprises in New York City. SkyyLine will be available January 20,2023 on a limited-edition purple fog vinyl with Salsoul Records obi-strip! Pre-orders will be available on Amazon and at Indie Stores across the USA. “It is an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to re-introduce SKYY to the world and introduce SKYY and The Ladies of SKYY to a new generation.”- Austin Kwame Wilkinson, AKW Enterprises. The band recently announce the SKYY Reunion Concert in New York City at the Cutting Room on February 25th 2023. ¹ First Choice is an American girl group vocal music trio from Philadelphia. The group produced the Soul/disco hits "Armed and Extremely Dangerous", "Smarty Pants", "The Player", "Love Thang", "Let No Man Put Asunder" and "Doctor Love". They were signed to soul label Philly Groove Records and to disco label Gold Mind in addition to Warner Bros. Records and Salsoul. Though the group went through various lineups, Rochelle Flemming and Annette Guest were the two consistent member up until they disbanded in 1980. Other members included Wardell Piper, Joyce Jones, Ursula Herring and Debbie Martin. Though they never had a major Top 40 hit, they did generate two big Soul hits "Armed and Extremely Dangerous" (#11) and "The Player" (#7). Salsoul Records who had acquired their back catalog released "Let No Man Put Asunder" from their 1977 album Delusions, which was highly regarded and considered their best. That song was later sampled by Mary J. Blige sparking renewed interest in the group who had a massive influence on 90's House Music from renowned DJs Todd Terry, Danny Tenaglia and David Morales. Soon the majority of their hits were remixed by other well-known DJs including the more recent faithful renderings by Dr. Packer (a personal Party Favorz favorite). After listening to this set multiple times, it became clear to me that these songs are better-suited for House Music and now Disco House no matter how simple some of them may be. There's no denying the infectiousness of tracks like "Doctor Love," "Love Thang," and "Ain't He Bad." The songs included in this tribute set are timeless classics no matter how they were received at the time of their release. After all, good music is simply just that and these ladies deserve all the accolades they've received. It is with great pleasure and immense respect that Party Favorz inducts First Choice into the Diva Hall of Fame. ¹ Wikipedia Album : First Choice | The Diva Series Genre : Disco House Year : 2021 Total Time : 1:54:45 1. Disco Yeah represents the finest Disco House tunes of the moment that are bound to sizzle your gizzle with deep-fried juicy beats. Michael Gray kicks off this set with "Take Me Back" (as in Studio 54) with Ian Ossia doing the remix honors. This song is also remixed by 84bit and frankly both remixes are outstanding so it was nothing more than a preference for inclusion. Salsoul Records had commissioned the very talented Dr. Packer to remix several classic tracks from their vast collection and here we get not one but two Loleatta Holloway classics that have been updated for today's new disco scene, while remaining true to the originals. "Runaway" and "Hit and Run" are two of the finest from her repertoire as he's already remixed "Love Sensation." The big one we're still waiting for is "Dreaming," but hopefully soon. Gangs Of Naples & Raffaele Ciavolino sample Loleatta's foray into 80's Dance with "Crash Goes Love" on their "What I Want" — an often overlooked classic loaded with one-liners that have been frequently lifted. Speaking of classics, Angelo Ferreri takes a deep dive into the Joe T. Vannelli and Eartha Kitt dance floor smash "Where Is My Man" and DJ Aiblo delivers a faithful rework of Kool & the Gang's "Too Hot." There's no doubt that Billy Porter has had a massive resurgence the past couple of years and he returns with the UK's Shapeshifters on the glorious House track "Finally Ready." Overall, Disco Yeah raises the temperature with a solid mix of styles that blend together to create a seamless end of summer pool party (even if for only one). We'll be back on Saturday with the final Chill Out session to close the summer out. Until then...ENJOY! Vaughan Mason, eighties funk master is Crazy Dee's guest interview on this episode of The Film Review: On The Road. In 1979 Vaughan Mason had an idea to write, produce and engineer a song about roller skating entitled 'Bounce, Rock, Skate, Roll. Vaughan Mason called down to John Freeman a fellow recording engineer in Washington, D.C. to request that he supply a bongo player, guitar player, lead vocalist and John to play the keyboards for the song, and the rest is his legacy. Later, the song is released on Brunswick Records. (Note to all music makers: Vaughan Mason gives he mathematical formula to make a hit record. Learn from what Mason's experiences, and apply the formula to your work.) With more hits following, 'Jammin' Big Guitar', 'You Can Do It' on Salsoul Records along with 'Party On The Corner', and 'Feel My Love', these coming on a collaborative EP record with Butch Dayo. So, sit back as Vaughan Mason drops gems from starting out learning guitar to becoming a top studio engineer, who works on some of your favorite hits, still today. Learn about his new artists Dimitri Reeves.

Vincent Montana Jr was an American composer, arranger, and percussionist, most known as a member of MFSB and as the founder of the Salsoul Orchestra. He is the spiritual father of the Salsoul Orchestra, the backing band for the many acts on Salsoul Records. The personnel of MFSB and the Salsoul orchestra overlapped substantially, and both groups were recorded at Philadelphia's Sigma Sound Studios. In recent years, Montana worked with house music duo Masters at Work, which rekindled interest in his work. Ken Cayre, founder of Salsoul Records, praised Montana's skill at scoring strings, brass, and diverse percussion in such way that it all worked within a dance recording. Montana passed away on April 13, at the age of 85. On this weeks podcast, I pay tribute to the man, with a selection of tunes from his massive discography. Tunes that he either wrote, arranged, produced, or played on.. DOWNLOAD: https://www.mixcloud.com/Frenzie/tribute-to-vincent-montana-jr/

From session work with some of the most iconic artists and labels (Cerrone, Bette Midler, Martha Wash, Salsoul Records, Artista, and Warner Brothers) in the 70's, 80's, and 90's to her own solo work Miss Jocelyn Brown has been a force within the music industry for over 50 years now. Many may recognize the sampling of her vocals (which even I just now found out about) in the massive early 90's hit by Snap! called "The Power." That sample was taken by her late 80's number one club hit "Love's Gonna Get You" which not unlike Loleatta Holloway's "Love Sensation" has been sampled a multitude of times. That song was also the basis for the early 90's #1 club hit "I'm Gonna Get You" by Bizzare inc. featuring Angie Brown. From Disco and House Music to Soulful and NRG Miss Brown is well represented in this 2+ hour tribute set. I would love to do a more fitting tribute but I've been down with the flu for a week now and no signs of it abating. All I want to do is just sleep. Thankfully this set was finished last week along with the upcoming Winter Edition pt. 2 on Sunday when I wasn't feeling so bad. For now, please give a standing ovation to the one and only Miss Jocelyn Brown! Hello dance disciples and welcome to a very special happy birthday tribute episode dedicated to the dance music legend, Larry Levan. Larry Levan was an American DJ best known for his decade long residency at the NYC night club Paradise Garage between 1977 and 1987. Levan was revered for his musical journeys, and an overwhelming message of love and positivity that broke down barriers in the dance music scene and beyond, gaining a cult following in the gay and straight communities, who referred to his sets as "Saturday Mass". Levan was a true pioneer in the dance music industry, and continues to be an inspiration today. It is because of his legacy, that the section of King Street between Varick and Hudson in NYC, where the Paradise Garage used to live, be renamed Larry Levan Way. The initiative was passed and on May 11, 2014 - 20,000 people, including myself, gathered to 84 King Street / Larry Levan Way - to celebrate his life, his music, and his legacy. This sermon is dedicated to him on his birthday, as well as all that revolutionary post-disco music that he developed and nurtured alongside house music at the Paradise Garage, that came to be known as the style: "New York garage." I've included some of Levan's all time favorite tracks, as well as selections from prominent NYC disco + garage labels like Salsoul & West End Records-- of which have been sampled across musical genres time and time again. Happy Birthday Larry Levan July 20, 1954 - November 8, 1992 And thank you for inspiring my Saturday Mass podcast. Love & respect, Miss Sabado @misssabado - - TRACKLIST: Taana Gardner - Heartbeat [1981, US, West End Records] Orlando Johnson & Trance - Turn the Music On [1983, EU, Ariola] Jago - I’m Going to Go (Frankie Knuckles Remix) [1985, Italy, Full Time Records] Gwen Guthrie - It Should Have Been You [1982, US, Island Records] Jimmy Ross - First True Love Affair (Larry Levan Mix) [1981, US & CAN, Quality & RFC Records] Celestial Choir - Stand on the Word (Larry Levan Mix) [2003, US, Bootleg] *Although the above track is listed as an unreleased mix on release, the original version is reportedly featured on the 1982 album "The Choirs Of First Baptist Church Of Crown Heights Inc - Somebody Prayed For This." Around 1970, Gamble Huff Productions became Philadelphia International Records. When Eugene Dozier left the label, Sigler inherited his office. Sigler's songwriting break came when a tune he co-wrote with Phil Hurtt, "(You Are My) Sunshine", was released as a followup single to the O'Jays' million selling 'Back Stabbers'. Other Sigler/Hurtt tunes included on the 'Back Stabbers' album were "When The World Is At Peace" and "Who Am I". The O'Jays' followup album, 'Ship Ahoy', had Sigler's first solo written song, "You Got Your Hooks In Me", and the Sigler/Gamble tune "Don't You Call Me Brother".In 1978, Sigler, bringing along Instant Funk, switched to Goldmind, a label started by MFSB guitarist Norman Harris and distributed by Salsoul Records. With his first release for the label, Sigler scored a Top Ten R&B single with "Let Me Party With You (Party, Party, Party)". The album of the same name was a smash in disco clubs. When Goldmind folded, all of its acts were transferred to Salsoul. About a year after its release and thanks to a Larry Levan remix, "I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl)", went on to be Instant Funk's breakthrough hit (number one R&B). Both that single and the 'Instant Funk' album went gold.He is a four-time Grammy award winner and we are honored to have him back with us to talk about his latest release "Bundino" and his future projects. Dominant. Revered. RESPECTED. When you talk about Loleatta Holloway, these are some of the adjectives used when people discuss her legacy. Never duplicated but often imitated and ad nauseum. Considered the Queen of Salsoul in the mid-70s and early 80s, Loleatta has had more DJs sample her music than any other artist in modern history. Well known for her ad-lib prowess during recording sessions, Miss Holloway would get on a roll during the drop and just keep going and going. It was fitting that Gold Mine (a subsidiary of Salsoul Records) included the full eleven-minute version of Hit and Run on her third album, where at the end you hear the producer say “okay, now let's do the album version.” By themselves, Love Sensation and Dreaming are classic songs permanently etched into the annals of disco history. Picked apart, these songs have provided some of the most memorable recreations of entirely new dance floor mayhem from the 90s through today. Love Sensation has gone on to be the most sampled song in the last 30 years, further proving it's singular importance to the genre which propelled it to the top of the charts. In 1991, producer Dan Hartman (Relight My Fire; Love Sensation) and Loleatta sued UK act Black Box for using her vocals without permission on their worldwide hit Ride On Time. They ultimately settled for an undisclosed amount and Loleatta was given full credit on subsequent pressings of the album. Despite considering herself a ballad singer (Cry To Me; Worn Out Broken Heart) there is no doubt the important role Miss Holloway played in the disco genre, which ultimately bled into 90s house music. For a thorough recount of Loleatta Holloway, avoid the rather lame Wikipedia entry about her life and jump on over to the excellent obituary from the UK's Independent. Borrowing from the saying “there is more than one way to skin a cat,” there is no doubt Miss Holloway will continue to pop-up in deliciously new dance floor incarnations from time to time. This is a true testament to her Diva stature. Miss Holloway, we honor your memory. This is the re-boot edition of the original Diva Series honoring Loleatta Holloway I created in 2010 and reissued in 2011 after her death. Apparently, some guy from France on house-mixes.com shamelessly stole my original mix and claimed it as his own dedicating it to her life and memory. Given the issues surrounding her lawsuit with Black Box, I found humor in the analogous nature between the two.
