“The energy is no longer there,” said the Methodist minister in Reeth in 2016, as another Dales chapel closed.  As journalist Mike Amos reported, a way of life was quietly disappearing. Chapels were at the heart of village life in Wensleydale and Swaledale for around 150 years, but decline set in during the second half of the last century.  And yet in half a dozen places such as Gayle and Gunnerside the Methodists are ‘still alive', as they like to say.  In this episode hear Walden preacher Rowland Dent, as well as Jean Cockburn from Aysgarth, Joan Fawcett from Hawes and the late Richard Dinsdale of Gayle.  It is presented by Andrew Fagg from outside West Burton Methodist Church and was recorded on 4 March 2021.

In this edition you can expect the usual driving house music consisting of tracks that have been destroying many a dancefloor for me in recent months & a couple tracks that simply never grow old! The last half an hour is fronted by global mega-stars; Plump DJs. Being early pioneers of the breakbeat genre, the Plump DJs have diversified in recent years to incorporate new styles such as electro, house & bass music. Their sound is still widely thought to maintain a breakbeat aesthetic, but their productions and DJ sets have become stylistically broader. Their live guest mix pretty much epitomizes this notion! Burgeoning Leeds label LS City Records has made an already solid start to its life with a number of solid releases, some top support and good sales behind them, but the ambition of imprint boss Jamie Fisher has not yet been quelled. As a result, he is to release the first in a new series of compilations entitled Rising Stars. The name says it all really but, to be sure, here’s Jamie to explain the idea behind the album... “’Rising Stars: Volume’ 1 will feature break through artists who we really expect to see big things from in the not too distant future. However, it will also feature new tracks from established big hitters like Richard Dinsdale [who has released many a club smash on labels such as Toolroom, Nervous, Global Underground, Juicy Music, CR2 and Sunday Best] and Lissat & Voltaxx [responsible for remixing Roger Sanchez and for releasing on Alex Kenji’s label already this year, as well as on MOS previously]. We believe in giving people who have got genuine talent a real opportunity and by pitting them alongside more well known acts we are happy to expose them to a wider audience.
