Musicoterapia. This is not an episode of Spinning My Dad's Vinyl. It was the only place I could share this music mix for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024. Music to watch an eclipse by We've been looking forward to the April 8, 2024 Total Solar Eclipse that is hitting parts of North America for a long time. I bought a special camera filter to take photos of the phenomenon. We bought really nice Eclipse glasses a couple of months prior. We'll be smoking ribs and chicken while enjoying the spectacular with high school friends in from D.C. IF THE WEATHER HOLDS! It is northeast Ohio. But, of course, I needed to create a special music mix for the occasion. Most people think you should just play Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to time the song Eclipse's last words to end at the start of totality: "...and the sun is eclipsed by the moon." While my playlist starts with the beginning of that classic album and brings in totality with those lyrics from that song, the list will showcase more eclipse/moon-themed songs from many different music genres. After totality, you'll get to enjoy more sun-based music to bring you to the end of the eclipse, which will be capped by Satchmo's What A Wonderful World. By the way...I chose Disturbed's version of Sound of Silence for totality. No matter where you are along the path, if you start this 2024 Eclipse Music Mix EXACTLY 1 hour and 15 minutes before totality starts in your vicinity, the transition I just described should line up properly. You can see the playlist below the audio player. Enjoy the show that nature is providing us backed by some great music. Were there other great tunes to use? You bet. But I had time constraints and needed to back time exactly to totality and then to the end.

Tony-winning Broadway star James Monroe Iglehart (Disney's Aladdin) sits down with The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul podcast to discuss how kindness has led to opportunities as a performer, his new shows What A Wonderful World and Spamalot, plus much more. James Monroe Iglehart is a multi-award-winning actor of stage and screen. You may have seen him light up Broadway in shows like Hamilton, where he played the dual roles of Lafayette and Jefferson, Chicago as Billy Flynn, and the Broadway hit Freestyle Love Supreme. Of course, James is perhaps best known for his Tony Award-winning performance as the Genie in Disney's Aladdin on Broadway. The California native has been booked and busy this season, starring as Louis Armstrong in the new musical A Wonderful World and then going straight into the Broadway revival of Spamalot. James plays King Arthur in the musical comedy lovingly ripped off from the film classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail. We, of course, dive into both of these shows! On screen, you may have seen James in series like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, “Maniac”, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” or "Sesame Street", and films like “Disenchanted.” He has also voiced many animated characters in shows like Disney's “Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures” and “DuckTales”, as well as “Blues Clues.” Fun fact: James is a self proclaimed comic book nerd who has written three comic book stories for Marvel Comics and co-hosts the Marvel Comic podcast “This Week in Marvel” on SiriusXM. When he's not on stage, he's usually watching pro wrestling or Disney+ while chilling out with his wife of over 20 years, Dawn. After the September 11 attacks, several songs were banned from being played on the radio by Clear Channel, now iHeart Radio, due to their lyrical content or perceived association with the terrorist attacks. One of the most notable songs that was banned was "Imagine" by John Lennon. The song was banned because it was seen as too pacifist and too critical of the United States government's response to the attacks.Over time, most of these bans were lifted, and the songs were once again played on the radio and TV. No one seemed to know what to do, but in retrospect, many of the excluded songs were done so brashly. Of 164 songs banned songs, we chose to talk about these:AC/DC, "Safe in New York City"Louis Armstrong, "What A Wonderful World"Bush, "Speed Kills"Blue Oyster Cult, "Burnin' For You"Slipknot, "Wait and Bleed"Billy Joel, "Only the Good Die Young"Korn, "Falling Away From Me"U2, "Sunday Bloody Sunday"Savage Garden, "Crash and Burn" all of Rage Against the Machine

What made Louis Armstrong's music so groundbreaking? And after he broke that ground, why were later generations of Black people reluctant to embrace him? From his renditions of “On The Sunny Side Of The Street” to “What A Wonderful World,” trumpeter and vocalist Louis Armstrong is cemented in history as a jazz icon. But for many Black people – especially those in the mid-twentieth century – his presentation was degrading and received as minstrelsy for white audiences. Filmmaker Sacha Jenkins traces Amstrong's complicated history as a Black artist in his most recent project and documentary, “Louis Armstrong's Black & Blues.” He joins host Kai Wright to discuss Armstrong's relationship with music and the fans that struggled to embrace him. Companion listening for this episode: What Does Black Ambition Sound Like? (12/27/2021) James Reese Europe was already famous when he enlisted to fight in World War I. But the band he took to the frontlines – as part of the famous 369th Infantry Regiment – thrust him and Black American music onto the global stage. Jazz pianist Jason Moran sits down at the piano to show Kai how Europe's band changed music, and how jazz carries the resilient sound of Black history and ambition in America. “Notes from America” airs live on Sunday evenings at 6pm ET. Joining us at the table this week is Sarah Kroger, Christian recording artist Sarah's work is some of my favorite and her new album, Light, transforms hearts and invites souls to the love of Christ. Don't miss the single, Belovedness, if you need a reminder of how lovable you are. Sarah and I chat openly about our shared love for all-things-healing. Don't miss our conversation around the courage it takes to heal and truly own what we push deep inside and avoid at all costs. It is throughout the healing journey that Sarah and I come to understand that recovering our true self is exactly what God wants us to do. By accepting who we are, including the things we are healing from, we allow ourselves to exist as the Lord truly made us to be. Here's what we connect on: Staying present in the moment, both big and small, even when it feels like distractions are ever-increasing How Sarah's new release, What a Wonderful World, celebrates life's most beautiful and magical moments How our Heavenly Father encourages us to own our belovedness, even when we feel most unlovable and lost How we must walk a truly vulnerable path to healing and self-love by giving our “stuff” to God and facing our pain head-on Keeping hope, feeling fulfilled, and showing up for ourselves for ourselves even when it's hardest Thank you so much for saving a seat for us this week! Please rate this podcast and subscribe so you don't miss the next episode! We continue with an amazing episode of our series “3 Chord Truths”, where we have been talking to songwriters and musicians, and have been able to sit down with some very interesting personalities, with cool backstories that reveal what it takes to follow the dream of being a success in the music business. Tonight's guest is Jack Williams. He has an amazing story that spans many years, and shows that tenacity, talent, and some luck can help create some amazing opportunities. Jack's list of friends and acquaintances, people he has worked for and with reads as a who's who from different types of music genres. The Who, Ritchie Havens, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Uriah Heap, the Allman Brothers, Kevin Costner, and many many more are part of Jack's incredible story. He recounts many of the meetings, and fun he had, as well as some of the sacrifice and pain in the choices he had to make. Jack continues to be involved in writing music and works with a variety of artists, as well as putting out a new album of his own, titled “Halfway to Hell”. We found Jack to be very down to earth, and thoroughly enjoyed our conversation with him very much. We know you will find Jacks story as interesting and inspiring as we do. Halfway To Hell BIO: “When I was a kid, I thought I was the only one going through what I went through,” H. Jack Williams says. “Music always helped me connect emotionally. But there's still a lot of abused kids turned damaged adults in the world today, and I hope this album let's them know they're not alone.” For Williams (his friends know him as Jack), it's a characteristically candid statement from the veteran-songwriter-turned-recording-artist who's experiencing one of the most surprising second acts in music. And with his debut album Halfway To Hell, Jack Williams now delivers a sonically startling testament to trauma and survival that sounds – and stings – like no other. The 10-songs on Halfway To Hell are all co-written by Williams – with the exception of his haunting take on the standard ‘What A Wonderful World' – including two co-written with Kevin Costner and directly address Jack's broken past and road to recovery. “I'm not afraid to say how horrific my childhood was,” Jack says. “I've had huge anger issues, drug issues, everything issues, and I'm not afraid to confront any of that darkness in these songs.” With producer Adam Box shaping Jack's graveled vocals into an American Recordings-meets-Nine Inch Nails soundscape, Halfway To Hell simmers with menace, growls in defiance and shimmers with strength. “I've been in the music business since '71,” Williams explains. “So many people still in this game at my age are jaded and bitter, but my heart is still intact. This album is who I am.” To truly understand Williams' personal journey is to also recognize an unprecedented 50+-year odyssey through Folk, Rock, Southern Rock, Country and beyond. A U.S. Marines Force Recon veteran and trained Escoffier chef, Jack's one-of-a-kind career includes being mentored by Richie Havens; a ‘70s publishing deal with The Who; as the first in-house songwriter for UK rockers Uriah Heep; landing ‘80s cuts with Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and Gregg Allman, for whom he co-wrote the hit ‘Just Before The Bullets Fly'; numerous ‘90s tracks for The Oak Ridge Boys; running kitchen teams on research vessels in the Aleutian Islands and Azores as well as supply ships during the Gulf War, for which he earned a Medal of Bravery from President Bush; ‘00s Nashville cuts on the Miracles From Heaven soundtrack and with artists that include Montgomery Gentry, Black Stone Cherry and a Top Ten hit for Canadian artist Aaron Pritchett. Eventually, Jack's patience for the current scene came to an end. “Three years ago, I was done,” he says. “I didn't want to write any more ‘back of my pickup truck' bullshit. I figured I've had a pretty good career; it's time to go fishing. But when I started to write and sing what was in my heart, everything began to change.” In more ways than one, Williams had finally found his voice. Always self-conscious of his ragged vocals, Jack started performing new material at Nashville singer/songwriter nights to widespread industry acclaim. He soon got a call from Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, whose band Kevin Costner & Modern West would record two of Jack's songs – including the Top 20 hit ‘Love Shine' – and cut four more Jack tracks for 2019's top-selling Tales From Yellowstone album. Williams was also approached by producer and longtime Brothers Osborne drummer Adam Box to capture Jack's new direction on record, with the resulting 2020 EP Already Dead leading Film Daily to declare, “Jack Williams is a musical legend.” “People are starving for genuine delivery, and Jack is the real deal,” says producer/programmer/engineer/co-writer Box, who compares William's unconventional vocal quality to that of Leonard Cohen and Dylan. “His voice is so unique, and anything he sings is sung with conviction. We started this album with lyrics and a blank slate, then approached each track visually. Sometimes the beauty of the song is in the contrast, like with ‘Wonderful World', but it all comes back to tone. I see this album as a montage of shapes and textures, like cutting up construction paper to make collages. Ultimately, it's an authentic expression of Jack.”

In part one, we heard about Sandy's upbringing, her musical roots, her early family life and her work and friendship with Johnny cash, a friendship borne out of him hearing her on the radio one night when he was in Ireland on tour.In part two, we hear about Sandy's reluctance to record some of her biggest hits such as her highly successful version of "Crazy". The song was originally written by Willie Nelson and she would have the chance to record it with him as a duet. The guys, along with Sandy, discuss the importance of being ready to take opportunities to present themselves.Sandy and Kieran discuss a song that they collaborated on which was featured on Kieran's "Our Place" EP. The song, titled "Ordinary Boy", was written by Kieran and was inspired by his own son who was two years old at the time. Kieran asked Sandy if she would like to sing the song as he thought she might relate to it as she has a grandson of the same age. Sandy was delighted to lend her voice to the song and we get a listen to the result on the show.Sandy chats about life in the present, the positives that the pandemic has brought to her life, if she has any regrets about a life lived on the road and about her contentment with where she is at now. She also reveals that she is writing a book about her life which will explore her origins as a travelling performer with her family and detail many of the ups, downs, struggles and triumphs that she has encountered throughout her stellar career. The chat with Sandy finishes with a listen to her performing a beautiful version of the old standard "What A Wonderful World".In the post-interview chat, the lads reveal their guest for next week as Kieran and Rory confront Luke with a question about the theme music for Órla Sweeney's episode.

Gosh, what a year this week has been! Don’t know about you, but we’re ready to Inception ourselves into wonderland, and live out our days in an idyllic ancient dreamworld That’s why today, somewhat hilariously, we bring you What A Wonderful World.Tune in to hear about ancient mythological places, and how the ancients used utopian worlds (anachronism, we know - apologies) to imagine their best lives and scrutinise their real ones. We take you on a whistlestop tour - thanks to a request from one of our listeners - of Atlantis, Cloudcuckooland and Arcadia before joining some surprising dots between the old and new. Who knew that Atlantis, Hobbiton, Stranger Things and Harry Styles all had something common? Same - we can’t tell you how often we’ve thought about that exact group of completely unrelated miscellaneous things!

在这期节目中,你还会听到 The Bad Seeds 队友,Mick Harvey 和巡演吉他手 Ed Kuepper 对 Nick Cave 歌曲的演绎;乐队伙伴的翻玩,与 Japandroids, My Morning Jacket 等晚辈带着致敬色彩的演绎相比,气质并不相同;乡谣音乐人同样钟爱 Nick Cave 那些温和、朴素的作品,Cat Power, The Walkabouts, Shelby Lynne 等人的翻唱,仿佛给原作换上了亲切、松软的外衣。 曲目单: Nick Cave - Red Right Hand (00:29) Primal Scream - Worm Tamer (04:52) Fever Ray - Stranger Than Kindness (09:26) Nick Cave - Stranger Than Kindness (11:37) Japandroids - Jack the Ripper (14:16) Arctic Monkeys - Red Right Hand (17:12) Nick Cave - All Tomorrow's Parties (20:16) Ed Kuepper - Do You Love Me (24:21) Cat Power - Breathless (28:05) Grant-Lee Phillips - City of Refuge (30:43) Johnny Cash - The Mercy Seat (33:20) Giant Sand - Red Right Hand (37:50) The Lemonheads - Straight to You (41:32) Mick Harvey - Come Into My Sleep (45:16) Nick Cave - I'm Your Man (47:49) Camille O'Sullivan - Jubilee Street (52:36) Mark Lanegan - Brompton Oratory (57:58) PJ Harvey - Red Right Hand (01:01:08) The Walkabouts - Loom of the Land (01:03:58) Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer - Into My Arms (01:07:19) Nick Cave - Here Comes the Sun (01:10:23) My Morning Jacket - New Morning (01:13:19) Nick Cave & Shane MacGowan - What a Wonderful World (01:16:47) *题图设计:YOFAK *《周末变奏》WX听友群敲门群主:aharddaysnight *写邮件给主播:soulwedger@163.com *微博/网易云/小宇宙 @线性方舟
Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Kat Edmonson over Zoom video! Edmonson’s new album Dreamers Do is out now via Spinnerette Records.Dreamers Do reached the #1 spot on Billboard’s Traditional Jazz chart, and the album debuted #1 at iTunes Jazz, #2 Most Added at Jazzweek and was named Deezer’s Album of the Week upon release. The album combines mid-20th century Disney songs (from Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Bedknobs on Broomsticks, Mary Poppins, Babes in Toyland), with familiar classics (“What A Wonderful World” as well as “All I Do is Dream of You” from Singin in the Rain), and features two new original songs from Edmonson (“Too Late to Dream” and “Someone’s In The House.”)“Dreamers Do takes place in a single night, from bedtime till morning. It's about our concepts around dreaming- all of the wonderful things and the fearful things, the things that keep us awake in the middle of the night,” Edmonson explains of the new album, “It's also about the quiet power of merely having a dream. There are interludes between the songs indicating different points in this nocturnal journey and if someone wants to listen to the entire record as an experience, it's available to them.”The LP follows the release of 2018’s Old Fashioned Gal, which Billboard calls “an intimate journey from doubt to resolve and implied triumph.” NPR Music raves the album is “a handsome showcase for her songwriting, which has grown ever more confident over the last decade,” while the Associated Press says the record “sounds like an alternate soundtrack to an Audrey Hepburn film.”In 2014 Edmonson released The Big Picture, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers, #1 on Contemporary Jazz Chart, and #2 on Total Jazz Chart. Her 2015 performance on “CBS This Morning: Saturday” garnered the program’s highest rated viewership since 2006. Her 2012 LP Way Down Low was described by The New York Times as “fresh as a spring bouquet,” and her performances at WNYC’s Soundcheck and Daytrotter were included in “Best Live Performances” and “Best Sessions of 2012,” respectively. The Texas native began crafting her signature sound while performing in Austin’s local club circuit for years before releasing her debut LP Take To The Sky in 2009. She went on to tour worldwide with high profile acts including Lyle Lovett, Chris Isaak, Gary Clark Jr., Shawn Colvin, Willie Nelson, Smokey Robinson, Nick Lowe and more.We want to hear from you! The most popular Nursery rhymes has no known author -it is anonymous, but in 1695, a French author Charles Perrault created many stories and fairy tales. He put together all popular nursery rhymes, and fairy tales, under the name of the Tales of Mother Goose. Mother Goose stories was first translated into English by Robert Samber in 1729. Thanks to Mr. Perrault for giving us Mother Goose and creating fairy tales in the 1690's, so we may continue to enjoy them until today Mary had a little lamb by Mother Goose Mary had a little lamb Its fleece was white as snow And everywhere that Mary went The lamb was sure to go He followed, her to school one day That was against the rule It made the children laugh and play To see a lamb at school And so, the teacher turned him out But still he lingered near And wait patiently about until Mary did appear What makes the lamb love Mary so? In this episode, I speak with Clare Farrell, co-founder and spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion (XR) — "an international social movement that aims to drive radical change, through nonviolent resistance in order to minimise species extinction and avert climate breakdown.”* This discussion includes an overview of the principles and the proposed demands of this movement, the realities of the global implications of climate change and environmental disintegration and how it informs the activism of those involved in the movement, and the ground-level organizing Extinction Rebellion is engaged with in communities across the United Kingdom, and internationally as well. In this discussion with Clare, we examine her role within this movement, as well as look at some of the recent high-profile acts of direct action and civil disobedience organized by XR in the United Kingdom this last year, and how these actions highlight the broadening awareness more and more people now have of the implications of global climate change and environmental disintegration into the near and distant future. I ask Clare to elaborate on the principles and proposed demands of this movement, and how this rebellion against extinction (of both human and non-human life) is a step toward publicly and politically addressing the likely near-term extinction of human life due to anthropogenic climate change and ecological collapse. In spite of this reality, XR means to generate action against, as well as directly confront, the political and economic forces of our global society head on, in spite of our dire prospects. Extinction Rebellion has hit a nerve in the UK and abroad, as can be seen in much of the media coverage XR has been getting, and the awareness and action XR has generated has created a means (one of many) for people to grieve and act meaningfully in light of the reality we are implicitly a part of — a reality that deeply informs the nature of XR’s origin, activism, principles, and demands. We discuss this and more in this episode. Clare Farrell is a fashion designer and founding member and spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion, a grassroots movement founded in the UK in 2018. The main mission of XR is to address the global ecological and climate crisis through nonviolent direct action and protest. While XR was founded in the UK, its impact and reach is global. *Source: http://bit.ly/XRwikipedia Episode Notes: - Learn more about Extinction Rebellion at their website: https://rebellion.earth - Extinction Rebellion has gone international: https://xrebellion.org - Extinction Rebellion's high-profile actions have been featured in major media publications, including The Guardian: http://bit.ly/2STuWX2 - Follow XR on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ExtinctionRebellion - Follow XR on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ExtinctionR - This episode features the songs “(What A) Wonderful World” and “(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons” by Sam Cooke from the album The Best Of Sam Cooke. - WEBSITE: https://www.lastborninthewilderness.com - PATREON: http://bit.ly/LBWPATREON - DONATE: Paypal: http://bit.ly/LBWPAYPAL Ko-Fi: http://bit.ly/LBWKOFI - DROP ME A LINE: (208) 918-2837 - FOLLOW & LISTEN: SoundCloud: http://bit.ly/LBWSOUNDCLOUD iTunes: http://bit.ly/LBWITUNES Google Play: http://bit.ly/LBWGOOGLE Stitcher: http://bit.ly/LBWSTITCHER RadioPublic: http://bit.ly/LBWRADIOPUB YouTube: http://bit.ly/LBWYOUTUBE - NEWSLETTER: http://bit.ly/LBWnewsletter - SOCIAL MEDIA: Facebook: http://bit.ly/LBWFACEBOOK Twitter: http://bit.ly/LBWTWITTER Instagram: http://bit.ly/LBWINSTA

"What a Wonderful World", a message by Ashley Saunders for Fathers Day
Our co-hosts were back in studio together again, and started off with a homily about fear of the Lord they heard earlier in the day. They also discussed Faith, Hope, and Love, as well as the Gospel from the past Sunday. They also listened to "What A Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, and discussed what they're thankful for, and discuss appreciation and comments from listeners about what they're thankful for. Finally they discussed Kindness, and how it doesn't need to come in random acts.

Subject: Chris Hardwick & Mike Phirman @ The Granada Theater (2011) Record Date: June 11, 2011, 10:04 PM Warning: This stand-up performance contains adult language. Note: Recorded on location, at The Granada Theater in Dallas, Texas. The comedy duo, Hard & Phirm performed stand-up and music before a huge crowd of enthusiastic geeks and nerds, myself included. Unfortunately, my seat was situated right in front of a giant, bass-heavy amplifier, beside the stage. As a result, most of the songs had to be cut. However, I was able to salvage Phirman's hilarious cover/impression of "What A Wonderful World", as well as his amazing build-a-song, using a digital looping machine. I've added that to the end of this episode, as a way to go out with a bang. The show was full of surprises, particularly when Chris accidentally spilled his bottled water all over the stage ("He must really like you!"), or when references to Raising Arizona and Black Dynamite would fly out from interesting places. Special thanks goes out to my good friend, Dallas resident Jesse Jackson, and the wonderful crew of The Granada Theater!
In this episode we feature excerpts from the 2011 Young Democrat's of America National Conference held in Kentucky during the last week of July. Puerto Rico made an impact and had presence in the conference. We must also make clear that, while this episode feature Democrats, the Puerto Rico Statehood issue is not a one party issue - neither Democrat nor Republican. Rather, it is an American Democracy and Civil Rights issue where 4 million American citizens remain disenfranchised solely because of geographic and misconceived and faulty judicial interpretations. Since the Puerto Rico Statehood movement is a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independent voters, We wish to reflect that by presenting an episode featuring the Young Republican Federation of Puerto Rico in a future podcast if that organization is willing to submit audio for us to work with. Music: Apollo 440, ''Crazee Horse,'' Empire of the Sun, ''Standing on the Shore (Lifelike Remix),'' Joey Ramone, ''What A Wonderful World,'' Tiger Army, ''Forever Fade Away,'' Ben Harper, ''Fight Outta You,'' and INXS, ''Don't Change.''

Here is a set I did back in August of 2008. I recorded it live at Webster Hall in NYC. Until February of 09 it lived on my computer untouched. A friend came by, heard it and liked it so, I burned her a copy. She told me two days later, she no longer had it cause her friend took it. Now since then I have handed out so many copies because people keep asking. I decided as I handed out 2 more copies today that I should share it with you. Hope you enjoy.... John 1. Sue Lawley's castaway this week is the businessman Karan Bilimoria - who set up production of a beer designed to be drunk with Indian food, imported it to Britain - and is now selling it back to India. As a student at Cambridge, Karan missed Indian food and used to eat at restaurants several times a week. But he disliked the gassy lagers they served – finding he could neither eat nor drink as much as he would have liked. He decided to develop a beer that was smoother and less gassy - especially designed to be drunk with Indian food. He worked with a brewer in Mysore, India, and initially they prepared to market Panther Beer - but a last-minute stint of market research led to them changing the name to Cobra Beer. It has won a string of liquor industry awards, is sold in more than 30 countries and the company is expected to turn over more than £60 million this year. But when Karan first started on his business career, his family were horrified. He had already qualified as a chartered accountant and had just graduated in law from Cambridge, but instead of a stable profession he started to import polo sticks, then began trading in up-market ladies' clothes. His father urged him to find a more solid career, but Karan persisted, delivering crates of Cobra Beer to Indian restaurants from the back of his battered 2CV. It took more than five years for the brand to establish itself, but it is now a familiar site not just in restaurants, but on supermarket and off-licence shelves.[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs]Favourite track: What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong Book: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho Alternative to Bible: The Gathas of Zorathushtra Luxury: Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister videos
