Permit to Think — Episode 33Cosmoledo | Blue Safari Fly FishingHost: Mike Dawes, Westbank Anglers Guests: Colin (Operations Manager, Westbank Anglers) | Keith Rose-Innes (Managing Director, Blue Safari / Alphonse Fishing Company)Episode DescriptionWhat happens when the GT capital of the world lives up to every bit of the hype? In Episode 33 of Permit to Think, host Mike Dawes sits down with Westbank Anglers Operations Manager Colin and Blue Safari Managing Director Keith Rose-Innes to break down one of the most remote, raw, and unforgettable fly fishing destinations on the planet — Cosmoledo Atoll in the Seychelles.Keith brings nearly 30 years of Seychelles experience to the table, including a firsthand account of witnessing GTs eat birds off the water — the original discovery that sparked the now-famous footage seen on Blue Planet 2. Colin brings the wide-eyed perspective of a first-time Cosmo angler, fresh off a trip that left him, in Mike's words, "glowing like he'd just met his first girlfriend."Together, they map out the full Blue Safari operation — from permit-junky flats to the bumphead parrotfish of Farquhar, the iconic milkfish fishery at Alphonse, and the wild, barely-explored Astove — before zeroing in on what makes Cosmoledo something else entirely.About the GuestsKeith Rose-Innes is the Managing Director of Blue Safari and the Alphonse Fishing Company. With nearly 30 years in the Seychelles, Keith has guided, explored, built lodges, and pioneered fisheries across the Indian Ocean. He is widely credited as the first person to document GTs eating birds at Farquhar — footage that later became part of Blue Planet 2. He is also a co-designer of the Schulten reel.Colin is the Operations Manager at Westbank Anglers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. A former guest on the Mexico episode of Permit to Think, Colin made his first trip to Cosmoledo as part of a Westbank-hosted group and came back a changed man.About Permit to ThinkPermit to Think is a fly fishing podcast hosted by Mike Dawes of Westbank Anglers. Thank You to the Kimchi Crew Before we get into it, a genuine thank you to everyone who listens, supports the show, and keeps this community alive. You know who you are. We do this because we love it, and you make it worth doing. Now let's get into it. Detroit IMSA: BOP'd Into Irrelevance The Porsche GT3R at Detroit was so heavily Balance of Performance'd that it was barely a factor, and the prototype entries qualified so far back in such a short enduro format that catching up was a near-impossible ask before the green flag even dropped. But let's be honest with ourselves here: IMSA was on GM's side from the jump. The race is in Detroit, GM's backyard, and anyone paying attention could feel the gravitational pull toward keeping the home team looking good. This isn't new. The frustration with series organizers placating to manufacturers based on geography or politics is real, and it's a recurring stain on what should be a pure competition. When the racing result feels predetermined by the city it's held in, that's a problem worth calling out. The 911 Market Is Not Coming Back Down We touched the surface of this last episode when we talked about Mezger-engine GT3s drying up and the 993 price surge, but it's time to go deeper because the numbers are getting genuinely hard to rationalize. 997 Carrera S's: a green manual with 35k miles is asking $108k. Midnight blue, 55k miles, manual, asking $90k. For a Carrera S. Let that sit. 996 Turbos, which we've covered before, are now seeing 95k-mile manual cars asking $90k. The market logic here is that against the backdrop of new Porsche prices, these feel like deals to people entering the hobby. And look, we get it, but that doesn't make the numbers any less wild. The broader picture is this: if you are chasing a manual 911 of any generation, any configuration, the era of stumbling into a good deal is over. Base 991.1s with 50 to 80k miles are moving at $65k to $80k. Base Carrera, not an S, not a GTS. And before anyone says you can still find a reasonable 996 base 911 for $35k to $40k with 90k miles -- we'd push back hard on that. That is not a bargain. That is a lot of money for a car that will demand attention and investment. The "affordable 911" narrative needs to be retired. Here's the thing we want to be transparent about: there is zero financial incentive for us to tell you to go buy a car. We don't get a cut. But if you want a manual 911 and you're sitting on the fence, today is genuinely the better bet than tomorrow, because every data point we're seeing says the floor keeps rising regardless of generation. This is not a bubble in the traditional sense. These are driver's cars with a finite supply of desirable manual configurations in a world that stopped producing them. Why do you think this keeps going up? We'd love to hear from the community on that. What makes this genuinely upsetting, not just analytically frustrating, is that the price appreciation is pricing out exactly the people who should be owning these cars. The passionate ones. The ones who would drive them, maintain them right, and actually care. Instead they end up with people for whom it's a flex or a garage sculpture. That's a gut punch for anyone who's been in this community long enough to remember when that wasn't the case. JC9 Carrera GT: A Solution Looking for a Problem The JC9 is essentially a reimagined Carrera GT body with visual cues borrowed from the 917. On paper that sounds compelling, but sitting with it longer brings up some real questions. The Carrera GT doesn't need to be fixed. It is one of the most celebrated analog driver's cars ever made. Slapping a new body on the concept and marketing it to ultra-wealthy buyers who want something exclusive feels like the automotive equivalent of a solution looking for a problem. KISS. Keep it simple. The military drilled that into some of us for good reason, and it applies here. The original formula was right. The more the car world chases bespoke reinventions of icons for nine-figure clientele, the further it drifts from what made those icons matter in the first place. Thoughts on this one? We have mixed feelings and we're not hiding it. Indecent 911 Hatchback Wagon: Cool Idea or Vaporware? The renders coming out of Indecent for a custom 911 hatchback/wagon are genuinely striking. They look cool. Full stop. But the question that always follows something like this is whether this is another "put your money where your mouth is" moment, where the concept gets traction on the internet and then quietly disappears when build deposits don't materialize. The 911 community has seen this cycle before. People love the idea of something unconventional until they have to actually commit to it. Is there a real market for a coachbuilt 911 wagon? Maybe. Is the execution going to live up to renders that were made to generate buzz? That's always the harder question. What do you think -- cool and you'd want one, or a stunt? Outro That's a wrap on this one. Catch us at pcartalk.com for upcoming events, support the show over at Patreon.com/pcartalk, and find us on social at @pcartalk. Host: Annik Sobing Guests: Christine Tully and Robert Wieczorek Published: June 2026 Length: ~45 minutes Episode is Sponsored by: CBS (Corporate Business Solutions) CBS provides global business process solutions for international industrial companies.  THIS PODCAST IS PRESENTED BY GLOBAL TRAINING CENTER SAP GTS 11 to E4H: How to Convert Without Surprises Annik Sobing welcomes Christine Tully and Robert Wieczorek to the Simply Trade Roundup for a conversation about one of the biggest transitions facing global trade teams right now: moving from SAP GTS 11 to SAP GTS Edition for S/4HANA (E4H). Sponsored by CBS (Corporate Business Solutions), this episode explores why the move is much more than a technical upgrade and what companies need to think about if they want to avoid surprises along the way. Christine and Robert break down the real-world challenges of a GTS conversion, including conversion approaches, system landscape design, downtime planning, testing, governance, and compliance stability. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why SAP GTS 11 needs to be replaced Christine and Robert explain why SAP GTS 11 is no longer the long-term answer and what changes with GTS E4H. They discuss how SAP's roadmap, support timelines, and the shift to S/4HANA are pushing companies to act now rather than later. Why this is a conversion, not just an upgrade The episode makes clear that GTS E4H is not a simple version jump. It involves functional, structural, and process changes that affect how teams work day to day, from user experience in Fiori to redesigning authorizations and reviewing custom developments. What conversion approaches companies can take Christine and Robert walk through the main conversion options, including brownfield, parallel landscape, sandbox, greenfield, and selective approaches. They explain the trade-offs of each path and why choosing the right one depends heavily on system complexity and business needs. How to reduce risk during the transition One of the key themes is preparation. The conversation highlights the importance of clean master data, realistic timelines, end-to-end testing, cutover planning, and strong governance to reduce the chance of issues during go-live. Why the ecosystem matters The episode also looks beyond the core SAP system to the broader landscape, including customs brokers, logistics providers, screening content providers, and middleware. Christine and Robert explain why a successful conversion depends on every connected part being ready, not just the internal system. What day-to-day compliance users need to know The discussion covers how the move to E4H affects trade compliance teams in practical ways, including new workflows, dashboard-driven monitoring, training needs, and changes to processes like preference management and blocked document handling. Who this episode is for This episode is especially valuable for IT leaders, global trade and compliance professionals, SAP users, and anyone responsible for planning or executing a move from GTS 11 to E4H. It is also a helpful listen for companies that want a realistic view of what a successful conversion actually takes. Has Porsche lost the magic, or is the future faster and more focused than ever? This week, from an MOT station at VAS Works, Lee and Andy sit down to dissect a month of intensive driving across six of the most important models in the Porsche back catalogue and current lineup. We start with the "Holy Grail" of the 90s: the 964 Carrera RS. How does its seam-welded chassis and manual rack compare to the technological powerhouse that is the new 992.2 GTS T-Hybrid? We also dive deep into the GT3 lineage, revisiting the 996.2 GT3 — the car that many believe represents the peak of the water-cooled Mezger era. Then, we turn our attention to the mid-engine masters. With the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and the 718 GT4 both in the mix, we ask if the newer cars have finally eclipsed the legendary 987.2 Cayman R. Is the R's hydraulic steering still the benchmark for feel, or does the GT4's chassis precision win the day?In this episode, we discuss:The 964 RS vs. 992.2 GTS: A 35-year gap bridged. Does the T-Hybrid system deliver the same visceral thrill as a blueprinted air-cooled flat-six?GT3 Purity: Why the 996.2 GT3 is still the "sweet spot" for many purists in 2026.Mid-Engine Battle: 718 GT4 vs. Cayman R. We settle the debate on which mid-engine Porsche offers the most "Driven Not Hidden" rewards. The GTS 4.0 Factor: Why the 718 GTS 4.0 might actually be the best all-rounder Porsche has ever built.Future Values: Which of these six icons is the smartest place for your money right now?The 9WERKS Testing Lineup:Porsche 964 Carrera RS: The analog benchmark.Porsche 996.2 GT3: The Mezger-powered icon.Porsche 992.2 GTS: The T-Hybrid future.Porsche 718 GT4: Track-bred precision.Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0: The daily-driver hero.Porsche 987.2 Cayman R: The lightweight legend.Find your dream Porsche on the 9WERKS Marketplace: 9werks.co.uk/marketplace Thanks to our friends heritagepartscentre.com for sponsoring this podcast, get up to 10% off your basket by entering the code ‘9WERKS10' at the checkout on heritagepartscentre.com‘9WERKS Radio' @9werks.radio is your dedicated Porsche and car podcast, taking you closer than ever to the world's finest sports cars and the culture and history behind them. The show is brought to you by 9werks.co.uk, the innovative online platform for Porsche enthusiasts. In this episode of Trumanitarian, host Lars Peter Nissen speaks with Sophie Tolstrup, Head of Policy and Climate at Ground Truth Solutions (GTS), about their 2025 report, Whose Priorities Count?. The conversation explores the disconnect between the formal humanitarian system and the communities it serves, the rise of mutual aid, and the urgent need to reimagine aid in a "messier" world.Key TakeawaysDoing "Less of the Same":As funding is slashed and conflicts intensify, the humanitarian system is often doing "less of the same" rather than adapting. This has increased the gap between what the system provides and what communities actually value, such as long-term self-reliance.The Danger of Prioritization Without Listening:Decisions made in "faraway rooms" often lead to egregious misalignments. In one instance in the Central African Republic, a community chased away an NGO that built unwanted latrines instead of refurbishing requested school rooms.A Shift Toward Mutual Aid:As formal aid contracts, community-led initiatives—such as neighbor-to-neighbor sharing, faith networks, and diaspora support—are stepping up. These networks are often seen as more relevant and emotionally resonant than international aid.Redefining Risk:There is a growing movement toward hyper-local funding. To move past the current "stalemate" on risk, GTS advocates for evidencing how local funding can be significantly more effective and sustainable than traditional top-down models.Breaking the Humanitarian "Bubble":In a world facing linked crises like climate change and out-of-control conflict, humanitarians can no longer afford to stay "in their lane". They must engage with the political realities and rights-based concerns that communities prioritize.Case Studies & ExamplesSudan:Despite negative perceptions of formal aid fairness (75% negative), the country features a powerful network of Emergency Response Rooms (ERRs) that use hyper-local cash transfers to adapt quickly to community needs.Chad:A positive outlier where communities feel respected and able to provide feedback, though they remain concerned that aid is not sufficiently supporting their long-term self-reliance.Somalia:Communities are using sophisticated internal safety nets to navigate the drought, though acute, long-term crises are putting even these local strategies under immense strain.Northeast Nigeria:Examples of community-led security patrols that allow farmers to work their fields safely.Guest BioSophie Tolstrup is the Head of Policy and Climate at Ground Truth Solutions. With a background in climate and 15 years of experience in the sector, she leads efforts to ensure the views of crisis-affected people shape the decisions of the humanitarian system.Resources MentionedGround Truth Solutions Report (2025):Whose Priorities Count?Organization:Ground Truth Solution

Which Porsche Do You Actually Buy? — Part Two Right where we left off. You've got the spec sheet in front of you, the price ranges are real, and the question the crew has been circling the whole episode finally lands on the table: if you had to write the check today — daily driver, PDK only, traffic more often than mountain roads — which one do you actually buy? Thank You to the Kimchi Crew and Our Listeners Before we get into it, a quick thank you to everyone who's been riding with us. The messages, the DMs, the comments — you guys keep this thing going and we genuinely appreciate it. This community is something else, and we don't take that for granted. Now. Back to the cars. So What Would You Actually Daily? The ground rules are simple: PDK only, because this thing is going to sit in traffic far more often than it sees a sweeper at elevation. Fun matters, mountain roads matter, but they're the exception. The question is what works best when the exception isn't happening. The crew goes around the table — 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 at 394 horsepower and 309 torque, ranging $75k to $90k. 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, same numbers, slightly more money at $80k to $95k. The turbocharged 718 variants — S at 350 horsepower and 309 torque, GTS at 365 and 317 — with Boxster money starting in the $40k range and Cayman topping out around $75k. Then the 991 world: the 991.1 Carrera with the 3.4L naturally aspirated flat six, 350 horsepower, 287 torque, $50k to $70k. The 991.1 Carrera S stepping up to the 3.8L, 400 horsepower, 325 torque, $60k to $85k. And then the 991.2 — 3.0L twin-turbo making 370 in the base and 420 in the S, with pricing from $75k all the way to $110k depending on how deep you want to go. Which One Wins and Why The goal isn't a one-day car. It's a ten-year car — longer if possible. Daily, fun, occasionally on a real road, and something you don't want to get rid of. That framing changes the calculus immediately. This isn't poverty spec shopping, but it also isn't money-is-no-object territory. You want to save where saving makes sense without ending up in the wrong car. For the crew, the 991.1 Carrera S keeps rising to the top. The 3.8L naturally aspirated flat six is the engine you'll still be talking about in year eight. Four hundred horsepower, 325 torque, the sound is unreplicated, and the maintenance story on a well-sourced example is manageable in a way the 991.2's turbo system eventually isn't. The 718 GTS 4.0 is an emotional argument that holds up — but it's a smaller, louder, lower car that earns its keep on roads, not commutes. The 991 wraps the same soul in something you can actually live in. And the 991.2, for all its numbers, takes you out of naturally aspirated territory in a way that matters over ten years of ownership. Get on the Road — Fahren 2026 If all this has you thinking about what it actually feels like to drive one of these cars on a real road with real corners, Fahren 2026 is the answer. October 13 through 16, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina — 27 spots, and the kind of driving you'll be talking about for years. Head to pcartalk.com for details and get your name in before it fills up. Outro That's the show. Thanks for listening. If you want more, join the Pcar Club at Patreon.com/pcartalk. Guy breaks down the ergonomics, the "Specialness vs. Usability" debate, and why the naturally aspirated 3.8L GTS might just be the most rewarding 911 he's ever owned. The Reality of Porsche GT Ownership: To go even deeper, the team from Garage Therapy joins the conversation. Which Porsche Do You Actually Buy? — Part One The question sounds simple until you actually start answering it: if you're shopping PDK because this car is going to sit in traffic more days than it sees a mountain road, which Porsche makes the most sense? The lineup starts with the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and Cayman GTS 4.0 — both making 394 horsepower and 309 torque, with the Boxster ranging $75k to $90k and the Cayman $80k to $95k. Step down to the turbocharged variants and you're at 350 horsepower in the S and 365 in the GTS, torque actually matching the 4.0 at 309 and 317 respectively, with Boxster money starting in the $40k range and Cayman topping out around $75k. The 4.0 is the easy emotional answer. The turbo variants are the practical one. The hosts work through both. The 991 Enters the Conversation Just as the 718 debate starts to settle, the 991 world opens up and complicates everything. The 991.1 Carrera with the 3.4L naturally aspirated flat six makes 350 horsepower and 287 torque and can be found in the $50k to $70k range — the 991.1 Carrera S bumps that to 400 horsepower with a 3.8L and asks $60k to $85k. Then the 991.2 comes in with the 3.0L twin-turbo making 370 horsepower in the base car and 420 in the S, and suddenly you're looking at a very different ownership proposition from a very different price bracket. We're just getting into it — Part Two picks up right here. Outro That's the show. Thanks for listening. If you want more, join the Pcar Club at Patreon.com/pcartalk. Follow us on Instagram @pcartalk. Episode 171 centers on Elimination Chamber fallout and the way one night in Chicago shifted the structure of WrestleMania 42. Randy Orton outlasted Cody Rhodes, Logan Paul, Trick Williams, LA Knight, and Je'Von Evans to secure a WWE Championship match on the biggest stage, but the path there was defined by interference rather than endurance. Logan Paul eliminated three competitors before Seth Rollins returned through an open Chamber door and attacked him, immediately destabilizing the match. That same opening allowed Drew McIntyre to enter and strike Rhodes with the WWE Championship. Orton dropped McIntyre with an RKO, Rhodes answered with Cross Rhodes, and as Rhodes stood, Orton delivered a second RKO to win. In the aftermath, Nick Aldis announced McIntyre will defend the WWE Championship against Rhodes on SmackDown, leaving Orton locked in for WrestleMania while Rhodes remains in pursuit and Rollins reenters the equation. The women's Chamber provided clearer direction. Rhea Ripley defeated Tiffany Stratton, Raquel Rodriguez, Asuka, Kiana James, and Alexa Bliss to earn her WrestleMania match against Jade Cargill. Rodriguez created chaos with a double elimination, Asuka misted Bliss before being eliminated, and Ripley closed with the Riptide to formalize a high level collision at WrestleMania. AJ Lee added another headline by submitting Becky Lynch to win the Women's Intercontinental Championship, her first singles title victory in over a decade, while CM Punk retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Bálor after surviving sustained rib targeting and finishing with the GTS in his hometown. The long teased mystery crate revealed Danhausen, drawing a mixed reaction and existing more as spectacle than structural shift on the road to WrestleMania. Outside the Chamber, AJ Styles formally confirmed his in ring retirement. He will remain with WWE in a non wrestling capacity and enter the 2026 Hall of Fame, closing the door on speculation about a final run elsewhere. We also examine the newly announced Android Inoki project targeting 2027, which begins with an AI model trained on Antonio Inoki's speech patterns and philosophy before integration into a humanoid form. Positioned as legacy preservation, it raises broader questions about likeness rights, commercialization, and how wrestling history will intersect with artificial intelligence moving forward. From a business standpoint, TKO disclosed that WWE generated 1.709 billion dollars in revenue for 2025. The 2026 Royal Rumble in Riyadh produced 55 million dollars, and WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia is projected to exceed 100 million. WrestleMania 42 will follow a hybrid distribution model, beginning on ESPN and ESPN2 before shifting to ESPN Unlimited domestically and Netflix internationally, reflecting WWE's continued evolution in broadcast and streaming strategy. Across weekly programming, championships changed hands on SmackDown and NXT, Bronson Reed suffered a distal biceps tear that forces creative adjustments, and AEW builds toward Revolution under schedule compression with MJF set to defend the AEW World Championship against Hangman Page in a Texas Death Match with permanent stakes language attached. Internationally, NJPW crowned new STRONG and Television champions, CMLL delivered a high stakes hair match at Arena México, and Mauro Ranallo joins commentary for Global Wars Canada. Episode 171 connects creative fallout, retirement finality, AI experimentation, revenue transparency, and shifting broadcast strategy as WrestleMania season accelerates. Listen now.

The Ferrari Monza SP2 is also a big deal, as it is one of the first publicly sold examples to exist. And of course, the 1988 Porsche 959 Sport is estimated to make a big splash with a $4.25-5M estimate. Jason and Derek then discuss their five picks, aiming to surprise each other with their choices. Jason unexpectedly chooses a number exotics, including the 1991 Testarossa, the F40, the Ford GT Heritage Edition, and the 1973 Dino 246 GTS. Derek is a bit more predictable - choosing some lesser known cars like the Siata 208S, the Lancia B24 Spider America, and the “Rote Sau” recreated Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 with a 6 speed manual. Indianapolis 500 Veteran Hucul Dies at 79   INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, Feb. 20, 2026) – Canadian driver Cliff Hucul, a veteran of three Indianapolis 500 starts in the late 1970s, died Feb. 17 on his farm in his native Prince George, British Columbia. He was 79. Hucul made three consecutive starts in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” from 1977-79. His best finish came as a rookie in 1977, 22nd in the No. 29 Team Canada McLaren/Offenhauser that Hucul bought after Johnny Rutherford drove it to victory in the 1976 “500.” Hucul completed 72 laps before being sidelined by gearbox problems. He qualified on Bump Day for that race despite touching the wall in practice the previous day and suffering two engine failures during the Month of May, a significant pitfall for his low-budget team. Hucul's best qualifying spot was 18th in 1979, his final “500” start. The small-town driver from northern British Columbia learned his craft by racing stock cars and modified sprint cars at local tracks. He then began racing modifieds and supermodifieds in the Pacific Northwest against drivers that included eventual Indianapolis 500 winner and INDYCAR SERIES champion Tom Sneva and his brother Jerry Sneva. Hucul made 24 total USAC and CART starts between 1977-81, with eight top-10 finishes. Hucul's best finish in the standings was 11th in 1979, when he started the season by placing fifth at Ontario Motor Speedway and a career-best fourth at Texas World Speedway. In 1996, Hucul became a paraplegic after an automobile accident when crossing black ice on a highway in British Columbia. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Hucul remained active, managing his farm and mentoring many drivers in the area. He was inducted into the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame for his lifetime contributions to auto racing. Hucul is survived by his son, Kelly, and daughter-in-law, Sylvie; daughter, Michele, and many grandchildren. 2026 BAHRAIN TESTING - WEEK 1, DAY 3 MAX VERSTAPPEN “Looking at the test overall, the Team got in a good number of laps on the first day so we were happy with that. We completed a lot of things that we wanted to test with the new Power Unit and the car in general. Today it was a continuation of that plus also trying to explore a little bit more with the car; you go through so many test items that it continues to change and evolve with everything that you are testing. In general, it is all so new that we are still learning a lot, but the car was good. We also have new tyres, so we spent some time looking at different sets and understanding what we need to improve and be better at. With the power unit, looking at the laps we got on the board, the start that we have had is good. That's exactly what we wanted to do and it was not a given. Whether it will be enough to win races, we don't know, we will just focus on ourselves and try to do the best we can, but there is still massive room for improvement. Finally, with the car, we learnt a lot about what worked and what didn't. Our runs also gave us even more ideas for the afternoon with Isack and then for next week, where we can continue to try new things and different set ups.” ISACK HADJAR “The first week here in Bahrain has gone well. Of course, I had to wait a little before getting in the car after Barcelona, but once I did, we were able to put it to the test and really work through what we need ahead of next week and Melbourne. There are so many things to look at, but we're staying on track with our programme so far. True performance and pace are always hard to judge in pre-season, but we can be happy with the reliability we've had from the power unit this week. There are still things to work on in terms of balance and tyre management, but that's completely normal for this time of year. We're working through it together as a Team to get where we want to be for Australia. I've known the people here for a while now, but it's great to be working with them again in an environment like this." ASTON MARTIN The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team concluded its testing programme at the Bahrain International Circuit today, with Lance Stroll returning to the cockpit of the AMR26 for the final time before the Australian Grand Prix. Lance did not get on track until late in the morning session due to a battery-related issue that had impacted Fernando's running yesterday. Honda carried out simulations on the test bench at HRC Sakura before the car returned to the track. Due to a shortage of power unit parts, the run plan was very limited and consisted only of short stints. Lance Stroll “It's been a challenging couple of weeks here in Bahrain, and today's limited running wasn't the way we wanted to finish the second test. It's clear the car isn't where we want it to be performance-wise, and we know there's a lot of work ahead in the coming weeks and months. There's a long season ahead, and we'll keep pushing flat out to unlock more performance. I want to say a big thank you to everyone trackside and back at the AMRTC for the work that's gone in so far. It's not where we want to be right now, but I know how determined this team is. We'll stick together, rise to the challenge and keep working until we deliver the performance we are looking for.” WILLIAMS F1 2026 Bahrain pre-season testing – Day 3 James Vowles, Team Principal: Another solid day of running and mileage. It's great to see that across the last six days of testing, we've been predominantly tyre and time limited, and able to complete the full programme that we wanted. That's just a testament to the hard work of the teams, both here and in Grove, making sure that we made up for lost time.
No one truly knows where all the performance lies. That's what Melbourne is all about, so I can't wait to go there, to gain a further understanding of where we are. What I know for sure, though, is we have work to do. There's no doubt about it. We've put ourselves on the back foot. But my assurance to everyone is that we have an aggressive programme lining up in front of us in order to make sure that we extract as much performance in this car as possible over the forthcoming months. Carlos Sainz: The past six days of testing in Bahrain has been one of the most interesting and challenging tests that I've been part of, given the new regulations and number of things we had to learn. The progress from day one has been significant, although there are still going to be things to understand and solve at the start of the season. We go into the first half of the year with lower expectations than 2025 knowing that we'll be starting slightly on the back foot. However, I'm really looking forward to getting started and focusing on improving the cars through the year to become more competitive. Bring on Melbourne! Alex Albon: It's been a relatively smooth test here in Bahrain. We got some good mileage under our belts and tested everything we wanted to get out of the car, so I'm feeling more ready for Melbourne. There's still a lot we need to understand and plenty of performance left on the table that we need to extract, but I'm glad the tests went to plan. It's now all about maximising the next few days to prepare for the first race of the year! THIS WEEK'S INTERVIEW WITH MIKI MONRAS... Miki Monrás on battling Bottas and Ricciardo in the late 2000s and the rising cost of junior racing In the late 2000s, Miki Monrás was one of Spain's brightest prospects on the junior single-seater ladder, trading blows with the likes of Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas and António Félix da Costa in Formula Renault and GP3. But while his rivals pushed on towards F1 or careers in GTs, the Spaniard's single-seater journey came to an abrupt halt in 2011. Feeder Series caught up with Monrás to reflect on the times he rubbed shoulders with greatness, the challenges of racing in the post–financial crisis era, and life beyond motorsport. By Anabelle Bremner Back in the noughties, the path from karting to Formula 1 looked nothing like it does today. There was no standardised Formula 4, no carefully managed ladder – just a patchwork of championships that rewarded those brave enough, and wealthy enough, to dive straight in. Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 was as deep as it got: 40-car grids stacked with future stars, the proving ground where Pierre Gasly, Nyck de Vries and Lando Norris would come to cut their teeth. But before all of them, it was Monrás in the thick of it. He made his single-seater debut in late 2007, the result of years spent chasing speed. His first taste of racing, in fact, came on two wheels – on a motocross bike, inspired by his father, who had raced professionally in Spain and Europe. At the age of eight, Monrás joined a motocross camp, and it wasn't long before karting came calling. “After the first race, I really enjoyed it,” he recalls. “I remember it was Christmastime and I asked for a motocross scooter and for a go-kart. So I finally got the go-kart, and that's the way I started. Then I started racing in Catalonia, and I just moved through Spain and Europe and all the world championships until formula.” Single-seater racing, however, would prove a unique beast. Shortly before turning 16, Monrás moved straight from karting into Formula Renault 2.0, in which the competition was fierce. “Normally at that age you'd go before to a category not straight to 2.0,” he said. “My first year I was racing with Bottas, I was racing with Ricciardo, I was racing with [Andrea] Caldarelli – really good drivers.… I was racing against people that were already racing for two years in single-seaters. That was a big difference.”His first Eurocup campaign, in 2008, proved a challenging one. He was scoreless for his first five rounds with the Hitech Junior Team (no relation to the current Hitech) before a switch to SG Formula brought him six points in the final two rounds. Valtteri Bottas, then of Motopark Academy, went on to claim that year's title after a close fight involving Ricciardo, Caldarelli and Roberto Merhi. The next year brought Monrás a decidedly better season and three podiums with SG Formula, owned by Mercedes Junior Team advisor Stéphane Guerin. He wound up fifth overall in a season dominated by a fierce three-way fight between Félix da Costa, Jean-Éric Vergne and Albert Costa – the last of whom ultimately took the title. Racing against so much talent at such a young age left Monrás with plenty of perspective on what might have been. “Ricciardo was my teammate. Jean-Éric Vergne was my teammate. I raced with Da Costa, Bottas, with Magnussen, so many people that have been racing each other and winning races,” he said. “[I] think if I changed something at that point, maybe I would be in Formula 1, but who knows. Maybe yes, maybe no. “But at that time, it was really difficult times because it was 2010, '11, '12, where there was also a big crisis in the world, especially in Europe. It was really difficult for Spanish drivers to get the sponsors and the money to race.” The financial squeeze triggered by the 2008 global financial crisis left Monrás and many of his peers in a precarious position. Several teams, such as SG Formula, shut their doors in the wake of the crisis amidst an already shifting landscape in junior racing. “It's been changing a lot from that time until now. When I was racing Eurocup 2.0, one time we were like 48 drivers, I remember. 2008 at Spa. It was a massive level and so many drivers wanted to go in,” he said. “Eurocup was really high level, I would say maybe [comparable] to Formula 4 about the car and the lap times. “Motorsport has changed a lot in the last few years. It's more expensive. At that time, Eurocup was also expensive, but I think Formula 4 is around €700,000 more or less, maybe more now. It's quite expensive. Back then, I think Eurocup was around €300,000 or €250,000, so there was a massive difference. A lot more people could race at that time.” After two and a half years competing in various Formula Renault series, Monrás stepped up to GP3 in 2010. The inaugural season, won by eventual F1 driver Esteban Gutiérrez, came with another steep learning curve. Monrás managed two podiums and a 10th-place finish in the standings, but the step up exposed the limits of what talent alone could achieve in a field packed with hungry, well-backed drivers. “When I raced GP3, that was the first year of the championship, so it was a new championship for all of the teams. I also raced with Arden, which was a new team in the category, so it made it a bit difficult,” he said. “During testing, I remember I was flying in GP3, and then suddenly in some races there was such a huge difference with some other cars and drivers. It was difficult sometimes. … I think this is always present in motorsport in all categories. You will find some kind of differences within cars and teams. It just will always be there.” Challenging as it was, that season had its highs for Monrás. A recovery drive in Spa's characteristic rain remains a fond memory for the Spaniard. “I had a really bad qualifying because there were some yellow flags,” he explained. “Because there were 30 cars, it was easy to find yellow flags if you're waiting for the last minutes in qualifying. I finished [ninth in] race one, and in race two it started raining really heavily after five laps. I went from P10 to P3, nearly fighting for the win in the last lap against Rossi and Tambay. That was a really good race.” After a season in GP3, Monrás moved up a rung on the ladder to Formula Two. At the time, the feeder series landscape was fragmented. GP2 and Formula Renault 3.5 offered established paths to Formula 1, while the MotorSport Vision's FIA Formula Two Championship, which first ran in 2009, aimed to do the same with a more affordable package. “Formula Two at that point was very competitive, economically speaking,” Monrás said. “It was a lot cheaper to race in Formula Two than race in GP2 at that moment or 3.5 because it was like all one team. All the cars were one team with different engineers, and that made it low cost for the time. “A lot of drivers went to it because of that. They were racing in the best tracks, same as World Series and similar to GP2, and the car was competitive. Maybe not as competitive as GP2 or 3.5 because it was a bit slower, but it was really competitive and really fast, on the straight especially.”  “In that time, what they were saying was it was very equal. You had one engineer for three cars, you were sharing data with these three cars, and it was all under the same team. You can always find differences in motorsport. Maybe not a difference to make one car win and one car P15, but you can still always find two-tenths difference in similar cars, and two tenths, sometimes it's a lot of time,” he said. “The cars were on the same team, but each engineer was doing the set-up for his driver. The set-up I was using and maybe the set-up Bortolotti was using, he had won the championship maybe from our different set-ups. Every race, you changed engineers. Every weekend, you were rotating engineers so at the end of the season, everybody worked with everyone.” By 2012, the funding had dried up. Monrás was left sponsorless and unable to compete in Formula Two. He sampled GT racing in the Blancpain Endurance Series and tested with both Audi Sport and Atech GP, but no program materialised. From there, Monrás transitioned into driver coaching and team management – mostly with the AV Formula team owned by his manager, Adrian Vallés – and eventually “moved on” from motorsport around 2017. “I was working also with McLaren Automotive, but it was not motorsport. It was automotive, developing road cars, really competitive cars. After that I decided to stop because I wanted to follow a new career professionally, and I moved onto real estate which I have always been [involved with] because of my family, so that's why I decided to move over,” he said. “I now work in a real estate company which I own with some partners, and that's my day-to-day nowadays.” After years climbing the ladder in lockstep with some of the sport's future stars, Monrás has found a new rhythm – one that's decidedly less fast, but no less his own. Yet his career remains a reminder of the talent that defined an era: a Spaniard who went wheel to wheel with the likes of Ricciardo, Bottas, and Vergne, racing in some of the deepest junior grids of the 2000s and 2010s. In the story of that generation, Monrás may no longer be on track, but he's never far from the memory of it all.
