Renowned artist and designer Helen Whittaker is highly regarded for her new stained glass windows and architectural sculpture in glass and copper. With an aim to engage the viewer through good design and craftsmanship, the artist creates energy and movement intertwining contemporary and traditional elements. Her designs are inspired by the client, the brief and the building, whether housed in historic or modern buildings, in ecclesiastical or secular contexts. As Creative Director at the highly acclaimed Barley Studio in York, Whittaker heads a multi-skilled team alongside Managing Director Keith Barley MBE.  Whittaker earned her MA in Visual, Islamic and Traditional Arts from the University of Wales, from her studies at the Prince of Wales's Institute of Architecture. Her BA, with a specialism in three-dimensional design using glass and ceramics, is from the University of Sunderland, a Centre of Excellence and the largest glass and ceramics department in Europe.  With 25 years of experience in stained glass creation and restoration painting, Whittaker has completed at least 100 commissions across the UK. In the summer of 2018, one of her stained glass windows was displayed in Buckingham Palace. Recently Whittaker collaborated with David Hockney for his art work in Westminster Abbey, The Queen's Window and was featured in a BBC documentary about the window. One of her pieces of art, commemorating The Role of Women in the Royal Air Force was formally unveiled by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.  A Craft Scholar of the Prince's Foundation, Whittaker has received the prestigious Hancock Medal for High Achievement. She has won several awards (including a commission) through the highly competitive Stevens Competition, and more recently has acted as judge and Chairman of the Judges. Whittaker is a Fellow of the British Society of Master Glass Painters and a Court Member (the executive body) of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers, a leading Livery Company of the City of London, whose existence was first recorded in 1328. She presented the Stained Glass Museum 2020 Annual Lecture, has given a Ted Talk and recently addressed the Art workers Guild in London. ToYG podcast was able to speak with Whittaker in between her work on current projects for All Saints Church, Wetheringsett cum Brockford, Suffolk, and Lily Chapel, Manila, Philippines.

Here's how one of the show creators explains their reasoning:Jeff Greenstein: "When Marta & David & Jeff & I did 'Dream On', we used to spend a lot of time thinking about titles, because they were on-screen at the top of each episode. On "Friends", we decided that was a waste of time. We figured, why not name each episode after the thing that people will ostensibly be talking about around the water-cooler the next day?" Hey everybody!  Legendary Dubuque, IA harsh noise artist BOAR is returning to St. Louis TOMORROW NIGHT!  Paradoxal Pterodactyl is proud to present the harshest show of the season 3/8 at the Way Out Club (2525 S. Jefferson).  STL knows BOAR from his many past appearances at NoisefeSTL and other shows at the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center, where he established himself as a fan favorite for connoisseurs of the harshest of the harsh.  Since then, he's broadened and diversified the focus of the project a bit, with astounding results. The last time Alex came through town, he dropped this killer set at Livery Company, which we are super happy to be able to share with you now in celebration of his triumphant return! For this current tour BOAR has teamed up with the possibly even-more-legendary XOME, international noise star based in Sacramento, CA.  When the possibility of booking this show came up in discussion, several STL noise bigwigs started practically hyperventilating at the mention of his name.  One said he'd quit his job to catch this show if he had to.  Local support is a veritable who's who of STL HARSH:  FECAL DAM and BEAUTY PAGEANT of course were no brainers for such a lineup, Rusty Anderson & David Bell are debuting the genetically spliced amalgam of their respective solo acts as MONSTER SIZED EVIL LAMBS, and we even coaxed a set out of the elusive slumbering noise giant CHARLIE.  Seriously, we heard/saw no less than ten people upon announcement of this show say "Holy shit, wait a minute- MONEYBAGS?"  YES.  THAT CHARLIE.  Don't sleep on this shit. Show starts at 9, for more details (including a wicked sick printable souvenir 11"x17" flyer with 10 color variants that Dingus made), check out the facebook event page at : https://www.facebook.com/events/1113320992032353/  and while you are there, go ahead and click "subscribe to events" so you don't miss hearing about any of the fabulously confounding concerts sponsored by this humble little podcast, including our ongoing "WAY OUT WEIRDO WEDNESDAY" mixed-genre showcase at the Way Out Club on the first Wednesday of every month.    Also, if you live elsewhere or have friends who do that may be interested, the event page for the full BOAR/XOME tour is at: https://www.facebook.com/events/954751764616658/ Alright.  See you cats tomorrow!

One of our favorite local standup comics and promoter behind several of the comedy shows you've heard bits of in our podcast, wickedly funny badass Micaela Mohr kicked in the new year's teeth with back to back sets on January 2nd- this recording (courtesy Dingus) is from the second set, where she closed out the evening at San Loo (if you haven't been there yet, new bar on Cherokee where Livery Company was before they moved, still a fun little space and glad to see it open again).  She's our kind of dirtbag, and we're stoked to announce she'll be cutting it up with us at Way Out Weirdo Wednesday #5 on February 3, along with Monster Sized Monster, Drew Gowran, Jaded Evil Lambs, and the debut of an exciting new act St. Michael!  Find Paradoxal Pterodactyl on Facebook to peep the event page.  Starts at 9, 21+, FREE SHOW at "your home away from home", the Way Out Club.  See you there!

This one-off improvised collaboration between Grace Smith (Janet) and David Bell (Jaded Evil Lambs) was recorded at Plush STL (RIP) on 11/24/2014.  It was an interesting evening to say the least.Speaking of, one week from today (1/23/2015) there is a killer noise show going on at Livery Company, featuring Janet, Jaded Evil Lambs, Small Pox Champion, and Fecal Dam as the STL locals and the EXCELLENT touring lineup of Mass Comm (Dayton, OH), BOAR (Dubuque, IA), and Justin Marc Lloyd (Chicago, IL).  Highly recommend you do not miss this one.

It's already been a busy year for Jaded Evil Lambs.  In addition to the work on this here podcast and all the UnderCurrent editing and arrangement and preparing for this year's iteration of Noisecamp at the regional Burning Man event Interfuse, our man Davelybob managed to squeeze in releasing a new collection of Jaded Evil Lambs recordings ("Left To Their Own Devices", available on bandcamp.com), and somehow got roped into playing a unexpected series of shows that have been highly fruitful, resulting in some of his best knob twisting to date.  This tasty morsel is the most recent exhibition of audio oddities he unleashed, recorded on 4/4/2014 at the Livery Company by Brad Schumacher.  The fitting title "I Am A Scary Dinosaur" was decided on that evening shortly before the show when Dave's little buddy Zephyr uncovered the shocking truth that Dave is, in fact, a scary dinosaur.  More fossilized waveforms are to be had on 5/20 when Jaded Evil Lambs next throws down at Blank Space.  Be there.
