On a summer evening in January 1983, 10-year-old Louise Bell went missing from her bedroom in Adelaide's Hackham West.  It was a case that horrified Australia, as every parent's worst nightmare became reality for the Bell family. As far as conclusions go the most the JL boys can say in this case is that they have reached one. It would not, however, come before more final twists, turns and shocking revelations.  Sean and Daniel recap this series in its entirety and struggle to comprehend if this outcome was just, lawful and ultimately if up to them, could they convict on the evidence tendered.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As Sean and Daniel thought they were nearing the end of this case many more words would need to be spoken and fall in line before understanding how to construct this sentence. As this case continues Sean and Daniel begin the episode with the concept of finally reaching a conclusion and breaking down the complex process of returning a verdict. The JL boys quickly learn how much there is to consider in getting to this verdict. After determining if this would become a Section 269 case it seems Sean and Daniel are once again left unpicking the delicate strands of DNA and it's importance to this trial. In this episode the JL boys pause to consider all they have covered in this case so far and it's effect on their thoughts around guilt, innocence, process and reasonable doubt. Sean and Daniel have felt elements of doubt creep into this case however one part that made sense and remained intact was the DNA evidence. Now even that could be in doubt. As this case continues on the JL boys start to uncover bizarre, and at times chilling, background and behaviours that make up the character of the accused Dieter Pfenning. From the tragic abduction from a bedroom to the tactical jousting of the courtroom the JL boys work their way through the back and forth of the prosecution and defense cases. As the trial begins the JL boys would be audibly effected as they recount their first witness testimony providing an insight into Louise and a seemingly innocent childhood. When you get to the trial process you expect it to be a fairly routine set of events, however the JL boys would find out when 6 weeks turns into 10 months it's anything other than routine.
