The IDF announced this morning that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is now once again in effect, following “a series of significant strikes” targeting dozens of Hamas targets and operatives. The strikes came after Palestinian operatives carried out an attack on troops stationed in the Rafah area of the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, killing soldier Master Sgt. (res.) Yona Efraim Feldbaum. This strike on IDF soldiers, along with Hamas’s failure to return the deceased Israeli hostages -- even faking the recovery of one slain hostage -- led to Israel's retaliation, which, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, killed over 100. Horovitz weighs in on the nature of Hamas and the White House's recognition of Israel's right to retaliate. We hear how Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the US of his intention to strike, and today appears bent on continuing with the Trump-brokered ceasefire. The Haredi community in Israel is planning a massive protest at the entrance of Jerusalem tomorrow, while the High Court is hearing petitions that the IDF draft tens of thousands of ultra-Orthodox young men, and at the same time, the Knesset is working to draft a bill that will allow most of the Haredi young men to continue to avoid conscription. We learn some details of the leaked bill being discussed by the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee and hear about some of the Likud MKs who are speaking out against it. Todaywe're looking at Ephesians 1:1-3. When I read these verses, one of the thingsthat comes to my mind is a series of messages that Dr. Ron Hawkins from LibertyUniversity preached for us years ago on Sunday nights at Rainbow Forest BaptistChurch. We had asked him if he would preach through the book of Ecclesiastes.Every evening he made this statement: " We are profoundly fallen creatureswho live in a profoundly fallen world."  My friend, this still no doubt is still the currentcondition of the world today.  Peoplewonder why all the violence, why all the discord, why all the division? Why allthe hatred? My friend, it's because they don't have Jesus Christ in their heartsand lives. Everyone by birth is born with a fallen nature, and as we pointedout yesterday, are controlled by the flesh, the world system, and the devil andhis forces. And the answer to these issues is not getting a better education orto quit listening to the public and social media and all those things. Thatmight help a little, but the real answer is getting a new heart and a new mindby coming alive in Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: “Therefore, ifanyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold,all things have become new.”  Paulbegins Ephesians 1 with this truth: “And you He made alive, who were dead intrespasses and sins”. God has made us alive through the blood and power andresurrection of Jesus Christ. And then Paul goes on to describe the conditionof the sinner: “In which you once walked according to the course of thisworld, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that nowworks in the sons of disobedience.” This is the way the Ephesians live.This is the way we lived as sinners before salvation. Verse 3 continues: “Amongwhom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lust of our flesh, fulfillingthe desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath,just as others.”  Aswe read these verses, we have found that the sinner is dead. He's dead in histrespasses and sin. He is by nature disobedient to God and His Word. He is “ason of disobedience”. Now we find he's also depraved. And what we mean bydepraved is that he's living to please the desires of the flesh and the wishesof the mind. His actions are sinful because his appetites are sinful. When youapply the word depraved to the unsaved person, you're not saying that he onlydoes evil or that he is incapable of doing good. You're simply saying he'sincapable of doing anything to merit salvation or meet the high standards ofGod's holiness. Jesus said that sinners, lost sinners, can be good to eachother (Luke 6:33). They can be good to their children (Luke 11:13). But theycannot do anything good to spiritually please God. My friend, that's theproblem.  Beforesalvation we are living according to the desires of the flesh. Romans chapter 1goes through the steps of this depraved heart and mind and what it leads to. InRomans 8:5-8, Paul describes it clearly. Youcan't say it any more plainly than that. But the sinner is not only depraved,the lost sinner is doomed. In verse 3c, Paul adds: “And were by naturechildren of wrath, just as the others”. Children of disobedience, childrenof wrath. We're condemned already. We read this in John 3:16-21. For everyone practicing evilhates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should beexposed. This is what is happening in America today.They are haters of the light. Not so much haters of people as much as they arehaters of God. Haters of the light only because they have never come to thelight through Jesus Christ.  Let'spray for the God of mercy to open their hearts to this great truth! Man cannotsave himself, but God in His grace steps in to make salvation possible. Verse 4begins with “But God!” —what a difference those two words make! Godbless!

The Ghastly Ones (1968), The Man with Two Heads (1972), and Carnage (1984) There are not many filmmakers like Andy Milligan. Sure, there were a lot of no-budget independents during Milligan's era that somehow got their finished pictures to play theaters and released on home video. But there weren't many whose real life was almost as terrifying as the films they made. But Andy Milligan would fit neatly into that category. Making over 30 pictures in almost 25 years, with some of the most outrageous and memorable titles, he still remains very close to obscurity. But he does have some fans out there. In fact, in September of 2021, Severin Films released The Dungeon of Andy Milligan, a box set that included over a dozen of his films, packed with extras. As that set has lived on fan's shelves for a while now, it seemed a good time to take a look into this strange filmmaker and three of his films. But a warning... his films are not for everyone. Some quirky critics refer to them as high school stage plays that were filmed. They can be mean. Talky. Bizarre camerawork. And pretty shoddy makeup. Nonetheless, they still have a charm to them… to some fans, at least. So take your next steps with caution, and as the saying goes, "Well... we warned you." Romans 1:28-32

Do You Know Who Is Visiting Us Today 11 Afterward he was on his way to a town called Nain. His disciples and a large crowd were traveling with him. 12 Just as he neared the gate of the town, a dead man was being carried out. He was his mother's only son, and she was a widow. A large crowd from the town was also with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said, "Don't weep." 14 Then he came up and touched the open coffin, and the pallbearers stopped. And he said, "Young man, I tell you, get up!" 15 The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. 16 Then fear came over everyone, and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has risen among us," and "God has visited his people." 17 This report about him went throughout Judea and all the vicinity. Luke 7:11–17 I want to start by emphasizing part of verse sixteen—"God has visited His people" What would go through your mind if you were to have a patrol car pull in front of your house and two officers come up to knock on your door? How about your boss walking into your office and closing the door behind him? There is a line in an old song that talks about the taxman com'in a'knock'in. In war time the last thing parents—or wives—want to see is that unmarked car pull-up and a couple of well-dressed military men get out and ring the doorbell. All of these visits are ominous. Many consider a visit from God to be like this. Even the gentle Jesus, as some portray Him… only to be. Why? Why would Jesus coming for a visit be ominous? Because He never leaves things as they were. Jesus revealed sin in the heart, when many only look to outward action… like many of the religious sort… So…how religious are you? What did Jesus do when He visited the so-called pious? He called them out. He called them nicely painted graves, full of dead men's bones. He took time to make a whip and threw some of them, out of His Father's house for doing what they called church business there. How many in our day, consider prosperity, growth, and numbers to be marks of a good Church? Are we moneychangers? Does this place become somewhere to show social position—or religiousness… rather than a sanctuary for refugees of a real spiritual war? This spiritual war we are in not only kills the soul, but the body as well. If it were not so, the young man in our text would not have died. The church is supposed to be a place to find help—a place to call out in our need, in prayer.It is not a place to show how much we—to show anything off…anything other than our sin—to admit our condition— TO HIM… And this … SO AS TO BE FORGIVEN. Yet DO WE compare—our car to the one you pull in next to in the church lot…. Do you wonder about those people in the pew in front of you? Why are THEY here? And MY kids…never, of course, made THAT kind of noise when they were in church! Did you know that Jesus cursed a fig tree because it did not produce fruit. So, can we show Him all the great fruit stored away to our merit? Now, do you know what He expects of you? He says that it is not just a matter of our doing wrong. It's that we do not even do what is right. Simple, common stuff is left undone—day in and day out—hour-to-hour. Do you want Him making a list? How detailed can He get with that? Minute-by-minute… or how about second-by-second? How uncaring, lazy and selfish have we been? All those things left undone! Do you know that this is really the same as hating, stealing, and killing. This is what we are about. Yes, by leaving these things undone, we do these other. Depraved indifference is a crime… "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them." So, Jesus coming to visit… means the truth about us and these… no covering up when He is around…. He points to the corruption and sin of the heart—FIRST.

On June 13, Chinese national Tingjun Cao was jailed for life for the murder of Christchurch real estate agent and mother Yanfei Bao. Bao, 44, was stabbed to death in July 2023 and buried in a shallow grave on a farm outside Christchurch. She was not found for more than a year. The crime shocked New Zealand and this month on Herald podcast A Moment In Crime senior journalist and host Anna Leask tells the story of Yanfei and her killer.
