On this live, behind-the-scenes episode of the Travis Makes Money podcast, Travis and producer Eric dive into one of the most nuanced money conversations yet: how life decisions like relationships, family, and values directly impact long-term success and happiness. The episode kicks off with a reaction to a viral clip from Nick Huber (founder of Sweaty Startup), sparking a candid discussion about: Why so many people delay marriage and kids The cultural pressure to prioritize career over family Whether having children actually makes you a better person Why “hard things” often lead to the deepest fulfillment The difference between short-term freedom and long-term joy Travis shares his own experience getting married young, becoming a dad early, and how those choices shaped both his business mindset and emotional growth. They also explore why making permanent life decisions based on outside pressure — instead of personal clarity — often leads to regret later on. Along the way, there's plenty of humor (including a throwback to Get Smart starring Steve Carell), plus thoughtful takes on: Why married people tend to earn more and report higher life satisfaction The hidden emotional depth that comes with parenthood How modern culture influences our biggest life choices Why optimizing for the “back half” of your life matters If you've ever questioned whether chasing success should come before building a family — or wondered what really leads to lasting happiness — this episode is a must-listen. This week we're joined by the writer Vanessa Lily Chung to (finally!!) tackle Anne Hathaway, an unassailable Stargirl whose Dream / Threat has always been totally vague but universally felt. We explore our own girlhood memories young Anne (Princess Diaries, Ella Enchanted, The Devil Wears Prada) and the latent “makeover” dream therein, reflect on the near-decade of #Hathahate, trace her comeback in the last few years via her fashion and beauty renaissance, and speculate on the major 2026 she's about to have with TDWP II, Mother Mary, The Odessey, and more. Plus: Vanessa's fascinating racial misidentification with Anne as a young woman, Anne's obsession with playing “sick girls,” the psychology of the default brunette, and the Threat of plainness. Today on another encore edition of the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to Denise Gautier, daughter of actor, painter, artist and raconteur Dick Gautier. Perhaps best known for his role of Hymie in the TV series Get Smart even though he was only on a limited number of episodes, we delve into the wonderful and sometimes difficult world of what it was like to grow up the daughter of a delightful but often too casual father. Ahem. The idea of looking into connecting with Denise came entirely from our interview with Susannah Mars, daughter of comedian Kenneth Mars. Susannah told us a very funny, if entirely inappropriate story, about meeting up with her dad and his actor friends at lunch and receiving a drawing from Gautier. While that drawing simply would not fly in 2025, it's what made us laugh and frankly, some of us also had dad's like that too. Ahem. Anyway, Denise gives us the lowdown on what it was like being with the very funny, exceedingly talented artist father as well as his unconventional ways. Along the way we discuss Dick's connections to Broadway, the beatnik coffee culture of San Francisco in the sixties, the famed Magic Castle, fellow actors and friends Dave Madden, Mel Brooks, his second wife actress Barbara Stuart, his various game show appearances on shows like Tattle Tales and much more. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.
Don Adams performed live at the Las Vegas Sands Casino in 1967. Adams is best known for playing Secret Agent Maxwell Smart on the hit TV series “Get Smart,” which ran from 1965 to 1970. He was also the voice of “Inspector Gadget,” in the 1980s.
Now more than ever, during these uncertain times in the markets, it's not always easy for young Canadians to have enough to save and put aside. But research shows that young people do have important financial goals, like buying their first home, planning for retirement, and travelling. So what is holding them back from achieving these goals? And how can we help young people build strong financial habits early on in their investment journey? On this episode, we turn to personal finance columnist, Rob Carrick, who joins the show to share investing lessons from his storied career. Rob spent 27 years as a columnist for the Globe and Mail before retiring earlier this year. He's seen the markets through many ups and downs and has helped many Canadians along the way. Today on another encore episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are bringing you part one of our conversation with former child actor Radames Pera, best known for his roles on shows like Kung-Fu and Little House on the Prairie. We had to split this episode into two episodes because there as so much more than we bargained for when we sat down to record this episode. Somehow in addition to covering Radames' career, we got into spin art, the Coogan Law, punk rock, fitting in at school and so much more. Part of that so much more involved his mother Lisa Pera whose acting career involved TV shows like Get Smart, Perry Mason, Hawaii 5-0 and many, many more. We discuss what it was like being raised in a Hollywood apartment by a young, single mother who was too emotionally mixed up from her own time as one of the many victims of being a Ukrainian – Russian in Nazi Germany during WWII. It's so unreal, it's hard to believe it's not more well known or talked about 70+ years later. And somehow, this is just the beginning of Radames tale because there is an entirely different story in part two of the podcast as well. What starts as a story about seemingly idyllic roles as John Jr. and a young Caine that found Pera on the cover of teen magazines as a heartthrob for years turns very dark, very fast. It's emotionally honest and brutally so. Take a listen to this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story. But not like this one.

On this week's show we look at some 1960s and 1970s TV shows that received their series finally in a movie at least ten years after going off the air. We also take a look at five home automation trends for this year and beyond. We also read your emails and take a look at the week's news. News: MTV is Shutting Down Its Last Music Channels, Marking the End of an Era Taylor Swift Eras Tour docuseries, concert film head to Disney+ Apple TV+ Is Getting Rid Of The Plus 47 Years Ago: Rescue from Gilligan's Island Makes TV History On October 14, 1978, television history was made with the premiere of Rescue from Gilligan's Island, the first-ever TV series adapted into a made-for-TV movie. Airing 47 years ago today, this film brought back the beloved cast of the iconic 1960s sitcom Gilligan's Island, reuniting fans with the stranded castaways for a nostalgic adventure. The movie picked up where the series left off, following the bumbling Gilligan and his fellow survivors as they finally escaped their tropical island—only to face new comedic challenges adjusting to modern life. Starring the original cast, including Bob Denver as Gilligan and Alan Hale Jr. as the Skipper, the film captured the charm and humor that made the show a cultural staple. This groundbreaking adaptation paved the way for future TV-to-movie transitions, proving that beloved series could find new life on the small screen. Rescue from Gilligan's Island remains a milestone in TV history, reminding us of the enduring appeal of these lovable castaways. Here are a few other series that got a series finale years after it's TV run ended: Star Trek (ended in 1969) - Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) – Relaunched the crew on a new mission, effectively serving as a big-screen continuation and soft finale to the original era's story. Get Smart (ended 1970) - The Nude Bomb (1980) – Maxwell Smart returns for a solo mission against a mad bomber, providing a comedic capstone to his career. The Munsters (ended 1966) - Munsters' Revenge (1981 TV movie) – The family thwarts a crime ring, reuniting the original cast for a proper send-off. The Adams Family (ended 1966) - Halloween with the New Addams Family (1977 TV movie) – A reunion special where Gomez and Morticia host a haunted party, offering light-hearted closure. Five Smart Home Trends for 2025 and Beyond According to the National Association of Home Builders, two-thirds of consumers desire a connected home. Smart home technology is increasingly impacting property value while homes without such features may soon be worth less. At the annual CEDIA smart home technology expo in Denver, professionals like Kyle Steele, president of Global Wave Integration, and interior designer Toni Sabatino emphasized the importance of staying updated on smart home innovations. They both highlight insights from CEDIA and recent research, offering ideas for your smart home. Today we take a look at the five trends they see for 2025 and beyond. Increasing Seamless IntegrationFor the aesthetics committee, Smart home tech is evolving to blend invisibly into home aesthetics, with slimmer designs, refined finishes, and hidden features in shading, lighting, audio, and furnishings. This shift turns gadgets into design elements, like concealed speakers or artful LED walls, prioritizing user experience over visibility. But underneath it all, seamless integration will enable devices from various brands, such as lights, thermostats, cameras, and voice assistants, to work together as a unified system. This allows unified control via a single app or voice command, intuitive automation based on triggers and a smooth user experience with minimal setup, no delays, and reliable performance. New devices will integrate easily, and a robust network like Wi-Fi 6 supports the ecosystem, enabling complex routines regardless of device brands. Partnering ExpandsCollaborations between tech integrators and designers are growing to make solutions more accessible, especially for non-tech-savvy users like older homeowners. Designers act as bridges, explaining privacy-focused systems, while expos highlight products for storage, entertainment, and monitoring to enhance client value. Wellness TrendingHealth and wellness features are becoming mainstream, including circadian lighting, air/water purification, biophilic elements, and acoustic treatments. These systems promote energy-efficient, livable spaces aligned with natural rhythms, which may be a selling point for those focused on healthier home environments. Products such as smart scales, sleep analyzers, and blood pressure monitors will seamlessly integrate with home automation platforms enabling automations like adjusting room lighting based on sleep patterns detected by sleep sensors or dimming lights if weight trends indicate fatigue. Similarly, on-demand ECG readings through their mobile app can connect to the automation system to send notifications to family members, doctors and in extreme cases to first responders creating a proactive smart home that responds to vital health data in real time. SecuritySecurity remains a top priority, driving demand for video doorbells, whole-house systems, and cybersecurity measures amid hacking risks. Industry reports project strong growth in global smart home security, urging professionals to educate homeowners on secure setups like strong passwords. Multi-TaskingProducts now multitask across needs like security, comfort, entertainment, and energy savings like smart shading for automated vacation modes or TVs that double as art displays like Samsung's The Frame. Emerging "smart surfaces," such as charging countertops, reflect this versatile, lifestyle-fitting approach.

FAITH BASED is a slacker comedy evoking the post-2000s wave of comedies such as ANCHORMAN and GET SMART, both of which co-star veteran comic actor David Koechner, who also makes a cameo in FAITH BASED. The real stars are Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason, playing underachieving roommates in Reseda, Los Angeles, desperate for money and relevance. They discover how much certain Christian films make, referencing (in the film's fictional world) actual titles we've covered on Boys' Bible Study such as GOD'S NOT DEAD and WAR ROOM. Kevin Sorbo is singled out as a “D-list actor” whose attachment to low-budget Christian movies helps them reach a sheep-like audience eager for anything with a godly message. Armed with a perfect scam, Luke and Tanner set out to make a movie despite zero experience, immersing themselves in Luke's father's church to seem more legit. The plan unravels when Tanner falls for a hot Christian woman and begins embracing religion to impress her, threatening their bromance. Trouble also brews when aging exploitation star Butch Savage (Koechner) never responds to their casting offer, putting the project at risk. FAITH BASED sounds like a premise rich enough to mine for comedy, but we found the filmmakers' shallow research into Christian cinema leaves many joke opportunities on the table. The script leans on obvious critiques and swings wildly in tone, making it hard to tell whether the film aims to be cutting or heartwarming. We invite any future filmmakers critiquing Christian movies to hire Boys' Bible Study to “punch up” your scripts for a very modest consulting fee, most of which we promise to tithe! Send us a textStruggling with setting effective therapy goals? Look no further than the SMART framework, a powerful approach that transforms vague client aspirations into concrete, achievable outcomes. Drawing a clever parallel between the 1960s TV show "Get Smart" and today's clinical practice, this episode unpacks everything therapists need to know about creating goals that actually work. The SMART method—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—provides the perfect structure for therapeutic progress. We explore how specificity eliminates confusion by answering the five W questions and breaking complex problems into manageable components. Rather than settling for "feel better," you'll learn to craft precise goals like "reduce panic attacks from daily to weekly" or "have one 30-minute conversation with my teenage daughter each week without raising my voice."Measurement proves crucial for tracking progress, whether through frequency counts, duration tracking, intensity ratings, standardized assessments, or behavioral observations. We discuss how achievable goals must challenge clients while remaining realistic given their current circumstances and resources. The relevance component ensures goals align with clients' values and address what brought them to therapy initially. Finally, time boundaries create urgency and natural evaluation points, from short-term goals that build momentum to long-term objectives representing major life changes.Whether you're a seasoned therapist or just starting your clinical journey, mastering the SMART framework will revolutionize how you approach goal-setting with clients. And if you're preparing for licensing exams and need tutoring referrals, reach out to info@thegoodneuron.com for trusted recommendations. Welcome back to the Christ Street Fellowship podcast. This week wraps up our summer series, Get Smart!—a deep dive into the wisdom of Proverbs. In this final message, Pastor Nate unpacks the incredible power of our words.Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that "Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” And throughout the message, we see how words can either wound deeply or bring healing and hope.We explored three key areas of wisdom when it comes to speech:Understanding vs. Ignorance – Are our words grounded in knowledge and humility, or are we just venting opinions?Restraint vs. Venting – Are we speaking to be heard, or listening with self-control and grace?Timeliness – Are we learning to speak the right words at the right time, led by the Spirit and godly counsel? The message also called us to be peacemakers with our words, just as God made peace with us through The Word made flesh, Jesus Christ. Using the acronym P.E.A.C.E., Pastor Nate gave practical tools for de-escalating conflict and speaking life into hard situations.
We are kicking off HAHAugust 2: Double Take with 1982's "a guy in a dress is always funny" comedy, JIMMY THE KID starring Gary Coleman (ON THE RIGHT TRACK, DIFF'RENT STROKES), Paul Le Mat (AMERICAN GRAFFITI, PUPPET MASTER), Cleavon Little (BLAZING SADDLES, FLETCH LIVES) and Dee Wallace (ET, THE HOWLING). To say they're the stars without also mentioning Pat Morita, Ruth Gordon, Don Adams and Fay Hauser is a big disingenuous as everyone in this movie has almost the same amount of screen time. The lone exception is Gary Coleman who, for being the lead, is missing from a large portion of the movie. Based on the Donald E. Westlake novel of the same name, JIMMY THE KID follows a bumbling gang of small-time crooks who kidnap the son of a wealthy couple who are surprisingly pretty casual about the whole situation. The plan goes horribly wrong for no other reason than everyone in this movie is an idiot. JIMMY THE KID is part Get Smart (thanks to Don Adams essentially acting like the private investigator version of Maxwell Smart) and part wacky comedy where a car chase takes up 30 minutes of it's short 80 minute run time. We talk about Dee Wallace getting snubbed from the movie poster, VW Vanagons, Pat Morita doing his absolute with a nothing role, and why this movie is so important in the history of New World Pictures. Plus, Ryan does a dramatic reading that we hope gets the attention of the powers that be at Audible. You listening, Audible?

In this message from our Get Smart series, Pastor Nate explores the path of humility through the wisdom of Proverbs. Pride is a subtle but totally pervasive and destructive force—often hiding in insecurity, self-righteousness, and even our faith. But humility, rightly understood, is living in reality: God is God, and we are not. With Scripture, real-life examples, and practical steps, this episode shows how choosing the low place leads to joy, freedom, and wisdom.Key Passage: Proverbs 11:2 – “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.”
Keeping your "family car" running smoothly When you come to Christ, you don't just get saved—you become a vessel, a vehicle God uses to accomplish His will. And that includes your family, both your natural family and your spiritual family in the Church.God designed families to be like cars: built to move His mission forward, generation to generation. Parents are called to train their children, and spiritual leaders to shepherd the next generation in truth and grace. But let's be honest, family life often breaks down. Sin, stress, and misalignment can leave us stranded.Thankfully, God gave us an Owner's Manual. Proverbs, and all of Scripture, offers wisdom to keep our relationships running smoothly. This Sunday, we'll lift the hood and explore what it takes to get your “family car” tuned up and back on mission. Is your family running at peak performance—or are there warning lights you've been ignoring? Join us as we dig into God's Word and discover His roadmap for a thriving home.
In this teaching, Pastor Nate continues the "Get Smart" teaching series from the book of Proverbs with a focus on the topic of sex. What is the biblical view of sex? Why is sex so powerful? What can I do if I struggle in this area of my life? These are just a few of questions he answers while looking at both the book of Proverbs and the Song of Solomon.
In this week's message, we continued our summer series "Get Smart" through the book of Proverbs by turning our focus to God's wisdom for marriage. Whether you're married, single, dating, or hoping to be married one day, this teaching offered timeless truths for every heart. Pastor Nate discusses 5 truths that we see in Proverbs concerning marriage: 1. A spouse is a blessing and gift from God 2. Our character greatly affects our marriage3. Faithfulness, romance and sex are vital to the health of a marriage4. An argumentative spirit can harm the marriage, so we need to learn to fight fair, 5. Marriages need support from other married friends.
In this episode of our Get Smart sermon series through the book of Proverbs, we explore one of the most influential—and often neglected—aspects of godly living: Friendship. Proverbs is rich with wisdom on how to build, choose, and maintain friendships that are life-giving and Christ-centered! Benefits of friendship, which Proverbs outlines clearly:*Support in Hard Times (Proverbs 17:17, Ecclesiastes 4:12)*Counsel and Joy (Proverbs 27:9, 27:17)*Becoming Like Family (Proverbs 18:24)We then walked through how Proverbs teaches us to choose friends wisely:*Walk with the wise (Proverbs 13:20)*Avoid angry, foolish, or violent people (Proverbs 22:24–25; 14:7)*Look for character, not just chemistry (Proverbs 18:24b)But starting friendship isn't enough—we need to maintain it:*Speak truth with love (Proverbs 27:6; Ephesians 4:29)*Be trustworthy (Proverbs 11:13, 16:28)*Don't abandon them (Proverbs 27:10)
In this episode, Pastor Nate invites us to see our daily work not as a burden, but as a calling. This week, Pastor Nate continues our journey through the book of Proverbs by exploring the theme of self-control—a powerful, protective, and essential virtue for godly living. We start by reflecting on Proverbs 25:28, which compares a person without self-control to a city with broken-down walls—vulnerable and defenseless. Without self-control, we open ourselves to temptation, attack, and despair. But by applying the wisdom of Proverbs, we can begin rebuilding those protective walls. We focus on three key areas where self-control matters most:Guarding Our WordsProverbs teaches us to restrain our lips and think before we speak—not everything on our mind needs to be said. Wisdom comes when we acknowledge that we don't know it all and choose our words carefully, asking: Is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind?Practicing PatienceProverbs 16:32 tells us that patience is more powerful than physical strength. We saw this modeled in the lives of Jackie Robinson, MLK Jr., and Joseph, who all overcame injustice through patient endurance. We, too, must fix our eyes on the reward, trusting God's timing.Delaying GratificationFrom time and money to food and technology, Proverbs urges us to store up wisely and avoid overindulgence. Lack of self-control in these areas leads to regret, unpreparedness, and bondage. Small, daily decisions in stewardship and restraint lead to long-term peace and freedom.Lastly, we look at self-control as a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23). This isn't just about willpower or Stoic philosophy. True self-control comes from walking with the Spirit, surrendering our fleshly desires to God, and letting His power work in us. It's not behavior modification—it's spiritual transformation.
In today's episode, Pastor Nate dives into what the Book of Proverbs has to say about happiness. Spoiler alert: it's not about chasing feelings — it's about living wisely while pursuing Christ. Proverbs shows us that true happiness comes from a life rooted in wisdom, righteousness, and trust in God.We explore verses like Proverbs 3:13 — “Happy is the one who finds wisdom and who gets understanding” which remind us that happiness isn't found in quick fixes or external success, but in the choices we make daily to meditate on God's Word and live in humility, and generosity. We finish up with a picture given to us in Psalm 1 by King David about a person who finds his/her happiness in pursuing God. That person is like a tree planted by the rivers of water! Tune in for practical takeaways and spiritual encouragement as we unpack biblical wisdom for a happy life.
In this episode, Pastor Gary kicks off our summer teaching series from the book of Proverbs titled "Get Smart!" Each sermon will focus on a different area of our life addressed by Proverbs. This first teaching gives an overview of the book and explores the subject of Wisdom: What is it, Why is it important, and How do we get it?

TVC 691.2: Harry Castleman and Walter J. Podrazik, co-authors of Watching TV: American Television Season by Season, talk to Ed about the 1965-1966 television season, a landmark year that not only saw the premiere of many series that are still considered classics (including Get Smart, I Dream of Jeannie, Green Acres, and The FBI), but the start of the now-common network practice of midseason replacements—a phenomenon that came about by accident. Other topics this segment include why network TV schedules used to always begin in September; and the evolution of single sponsor shows during the first decade of network to the now-standard practice of participating sponsors.
