TODAY'S HOMILY IN BRIEF. THE LOVE OF THE WORLD AND THE THINGS OF THE WORLD HAS BROUGHT ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION OF SO MANY INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, COMMUNITIES, INSTITUTIONS AND NATIONS. UNFORTUNATELY, THE WORLD AND THE THINGS OF THIS WORLD ARE ALL PASSING. TODAY, WE'RE ENCOURAGED TO BE GUIDED BY THE CONSEL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN OUR USE OF THE THINGS OF THIS WORLD SUCH THAT INSTEAD OF BEING ENSLAVED TO THEM THEY REMAIN AT OUR SERVICE FOR THE COMMON GOOD AND SALVATION OF ALL AND FOR THE GLORY OF GOD. LOVE NOT THE WORLD NOR THE THINGS OF THE WORLD. Kindly listen to today's episode of my podcast for details of today's homily. 1John 2:15-17 | Ps Alex HuggettSee the video introduction here. In this message we unpack dichotomy between our love for the world and our devotion to God. The world, in this context, isn't just society or people but a system under Satan's control. We'll face head-on the hard questions around the types of love we profess, the pitfalls of worldly adoration, and how our affections impact our spiritual walk with God. We'll also equip you with the antidote — a relentless craving for the things of God and His approval. © Bentley Baptist Church Inc. www.bentleybaptist.org

In this episode, we chat with Katie Keller, a dedicated advocate for the great outdoors and part of the nonprofit, Wild Virginia. Growing up in the beautiful state of Virginia, Katie has always loved its diverse and stunning landscapes, from rivers to mountains, and everything in between. Katie's journey into outdoor advocacy was sparked by her desire to align her work with her deeply held values. Her first job out of college didn't quite align with her moral compass, so she decided to take a different path after finding Wild Virginia. They're a grassroots nonprofit committed to safeguarding the connectivity and integrity of Virginia's precious lands and waters. Their mission extends to mobilizing citizens, including individuals like you, to influence decision-makers, and empowering citizens and landowners to address threats to Virginia's wild places. Wild Virginia's approach also involves bringing together stakeholder groups to amplify their collective impact and, importantly, connecting people to the outdoors. After all, it is through a deep connection to the natural world that we become inspired to protect the places we know and love. If you've ever wondered about the impact grassroots organizations can have on preserving and nurturing the great outdoors, then this episode's for you! Today, Josh leads us in studying 1 John 2:15-16 and identifying the deep and beautiful truths that are immensely applicable and incredibly important to our lives today.1 John 2:15-16 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. We want to be the men God has called us to be. Pursue Him and His righteousness today. If you have questions about how you can get involved or would like to speak to our Robby, email him at robbys@covenant.cc.

1 John 2:15–17 commands us not to love the world or the things of the world. Setting our hearts on the world is incompatible with love for God. In this message, Dr. Voddie Baucham reminds us of our call to stand against the world when we are called to compromise and considers how we may do this by developing a Christian worldview, recognizing the errors of worldly philosophies, and committing ourselves to the community of believers in the church. Do Not Love the World (1 John 2:15–17) - Dr. Bill Cook
Loving the world will result in losing our first love. When this happens we begin to buy into the world's value systems and eventually, our lives do not reflect Christ, they will reflect the world.Main Points:1. When we meet Christ, one thing that fundamentally changes is what we love. Before we met Jesus, our primary love was ourselves, but we also loved the things of this present world. But when we met Jesus things began to change. We discovered a better love.2. Loving the world means being devoted to the world's treasures, philosophies, and priorities. God tells His children to set their priorities according to His eternal value system. We are to “seek first” God's kingdom and righteousness.3. The problem with loving the world is that it conflicts with what is to be our first love. Jesus is to be our first love. Why? He alone is worthy of such love and devotion. In Revelation chapter two, we learn the Ephesian church was commended for their hard work and perseverance, yet they were warned because they had lost their first love.Today's Scripture Verses:1 John 2:15 - “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.”Romans 12:2 - “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”Quick Links:Subscribe to The 5 Minute Discipleship NewsletterDonate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group5 Minute Discipleship on Instagram

Our society tells us that love is always good and should always be affirmed. Yet God loves us enough to warn against worldly desires that lead only to destruction.
