Desde abril de 2023 Sudán se ha visto sumergido en una guerra entre el ejército regular y los paramilitares de las Fuerzas de Apoyo Rápido (FAR), según la ONU se trata de "la peor crisis humanitaria del mundo”, en la que la infancia es gravemente vulnerada. La ONG Save The Children alertó que casi la mitad de los 17 millones de niños en edad de escolaridad se encuentran fuera del sistema educativo. Desde hace unos 500 días, más de 8 millones de niños no van a la escuela en Sudán por la guerra que desde abril de 2023 enfrenta a las Fuerzas Armadas Sudanesas y los paramilitares de las Fuerzas de Apoyo Rápido, informó la ONG Save The Children. Los establecimientos han sido cerrados y dañados o sirven de refugio "para los cerca de siete millones de desplazados”. ¿Pero qué pasa con estos millones de niños sin escolarizar que equivalen casi a la población entera de un país como Suiza? El director de país de Save The Children en Sudán, Mohamed Abdiladif, señaló que mientras los niños no van a la escuela, están expuestos a un gran riesgo, incluyendo la muerte. “Están jugando y la mayoría de las zonas donde vive la población han sido atacadas, por lo tanto, hay muchos artefactos explosivos sin detonar. Los niños juegan con esos restos de la guerra y hemos visto a muchos que han perdido extremidades, piernas, ojos y otras partes del cuerpo”, indicó Abdiladif, agregando que muchos menores están siendo reclutados para luchar por las diferentes partes beligerantes. “La mayoría de ellos han visto cómo matan o desaparecen a miembros de su familia, están surgiendo muchos problemas de salud mental”, agregó Abdiladif, alertando sobre el aumento de matrimonio precoz y violaciones. “También están aumentando todo tipo de abusos y negligencias, incluido el trabajo infantil. Todo ello se debe a que los niños no disponen de los espacios seguros y las comunidades seguras que solían tener”. Darfur Norte, en el oeste del país, es el estado más afectado: solo el 3% de las más de 1.100 escuelas sigue en funcionamiento, indica la ong que también alerta sobre la falta de ayuda humanitaria. “Todo el sector económico de Sudán se ha derrumbado y, por lo tanto, el país depende en gran medida de la ayuda internacional. Una de nuestras preocupaciones es que, en estos momentos, la educación no es una prioridad, especialmente después de que Estados Unidos suspendiera su ayuda exterior, hemos visto que otros donantes también están haciendo lo mismo”, lamentó. Las FAR tomaron en octubre la ciudad de El Fasher, la última de las cinco capitales regionales que aún escapaban a su control, mientras los sudaneses siguen viviendo ataques aéreos, bombardeos, tiroteos y asaltos. Se estima que más de 21 millones de personas sufren inseguridad alimentaria aguda en todo el país.

El Domingo pasado la Liturgia nos presentó tres solemnes llamadas de Dios a cumplir su misión a tres personajes : al Siervo del Senor. A Juan el Bautista y a San Pablo. Recordándonos que toda la comunidad cristiana está compuesta de los llamados a la santidad. Es decir: Todos somos llamados por voluntad divina a ser santos. Que es aceptar el mensaje de la Palabra, tender constantemente a la cercanía con Cristo, cumplir su divina voluntad y tratar de asemejarnos a Él en sus actitudes, palabras, gestos y en toda su persona. Este es el camino de la conversión y quien ha recibido este anuncio de Navidad no puede quedar indiferente, por el contrario debe abrirnos el corazón y hacernos disponibles para escuchar este llamado a la conversión y al seguimiento de Jesús, porque la línea de seguidores de Jesús no se ha interrumpido. Dios sigue llamando, porque Jesus resucitado, sigue activo en nuestros corazones por la fuerza del Espíritu Santo. Continuemos celebrando este Domingo de la Palabra de Dios.
