Kia ora e te whānau. How do you do something that many have considered impossible? And does your thinking change over time from just what is impossible to possible? For Michael Stuart it was the competitiveness between siblings that ignited his passion for running. Squaring off in a half marathon against his older sister, Michael probably never considered that one day he would be completing an undertaking that has been described as “very very close to the most amazing,, audacious feat of endurance … ever”. Specifically, this audacious feat was a continuous run of the three S-K routes in the Tararua ranges, the Main Range, Tarn, and Valleys routes. Roughly 80 km each way with a combined elevation of 16,000 vertical meters for the three, this was an undertaking that very few thought was doable. About 87 hours and 240 km later, Michael triumphed. Hear about “no sleep ‘till Kaitoke”, trail angels, sore feet, hallucinations, and the impetus to complete such a legendary journey on this week's episode of Dirt Church Radio. And for such a big occasion Kev and JG are joined again by Anthony Strand to discuss this four-stories-in-one release. How do the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn cope anchoring such a big celebration? Do all four stories turn out well? And given that three of the four writers conclude their Big Finish careers here, do they go out on a high?

Episode 13 - Still LifeThis week we focus on Big Finish Productions’ writing competition called the Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Opportunity 2019. It is in honor of the late Paul Spragg who was a very valued employee at the company until his death in 2014.In 2016, this contest started where fans are asked to write a single page synopsis and a single page opening of the story itself. That’s about 500 words for each page to start. The due date for this 4th year of the competition is on June 30th, 2019 so the competition is now over.As our guest on this special episode of MarkWHO42 we have Max Curtis, who entered the contest 2 years ago and became a runner-up. But even though usually only the winner gets to write their story for an audio adventure, his was so good that Big Finish hired him to complete his story and it’s being released as a subscriber special alongside June’s Main Range story “An Alien Werewolf in London”. The Short Trips adventure is called “Still Life” and features the characters of The Third Doctor and Jo Grant and in our opinion is utterly amazing and emotional. To get this audio, you must subscribe to the Main Range line at Big Finish and make sure story #252 is included, or you will have to wait a year or two until it’s separately released but listen to us... don’t wait. Go to Big Finish now... well after you listen to the episode of MarkWHO42 of course!MarkWHO42! Where Max Curtis gets you to enter the Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Opportunity!

Finishing up sophomore year at Seton Hall University in New Jersey,  Kainoa Spenser was about to face the fight of his life. The International Affairs major woke up one day not feeling well.  The next day he passed out.  Believing that he was just exhausted from finals, Spenser tried to power through. He flew home to Arizona and was immediately rushed to HonorHealth.  His organs were failing. He explains that he was transferred to Mayo Hospital where doctors put Spenser into a medically induced coma.  Necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating disease, ended up leading to the amputation of Spenser's legs and hands. “When I got out of the hospital a little over a year ago I was connected immediately with Kyle Maynard. He was born with congenital amputations.  Seeing how he was able to transform that tragedy into something that is inspiring to all, and has radically improved his life and lives around the world, was cool to see.  How he was able to turn his pain into … purpose,” Spenser explains. On our Carey Pena Reports Podcast, Spenser told his story alongside his Trainer and Coach, Jesse Holland.  The two met after Spenser spoke at an event for K2 Adventures, for which Holland is a Mountain Guide. They began to chart a course for Spenser's recovery.  “Kainoa often shows me and everybody what we can do.  That we are not a victim,” Holland says. The first objective for Kainoa was to get back to holding a golf club and to have enough stamina to be able to swing. He met and surpassed that goal over the past year, having golfed in two tournaments. Now, Kainoa Spenser is joining K2 Adventures and Jesse Holland on a trip to Mount Kosciuszko, Australia's highest mountain. It's located on the Main Range of the Snowy Mountains in Kosciuszko National Park, part of the Australian Alps National Parks and Reserves. “Improving your mental health starts with improving your physical health,” Spenser says of his ongoing recovery and the lofty physical goals he has set for himself. All along, the community has rallied around Kainoa Spenser and his family using the hashtag #LiveLikeKainoa While he has had overwhelming support, there have been many dark days. And he allows himself the mental space to be depressed – with an end date. “Nothing is wrong with having those (dark days), but the best part is knowing that it's going to end. And setting the end date,” Spenser explains. “You can feel bad for yourself, and eat the worst food for yourself, and watch all the movies you want, and sit on the couch, but know on Monday when you wake up, that that's the end and you are moving forward.” Kainoa serves as inspiration to the Arizona community where he now lives and to the Seton Hall community in New Jersey where he previously went to school, but also for people all over the world who have discovered his story. Around his neck, Kainoa Spenser wears a Tree of Life Intention Stick, created by Valley residents Scott and Marla Berger. Inside the necklace, Spenser puts his words of intention and that's where he keeps his focus. Also, he has his faith. “I have a major connection with God,” Spenser shares. “And he allows me, and my faith truly allows me to have that first breath of … it's going to be okay. There's something greater for this purpose and you have to find those motivating factors outside of yourself.” https://k2adventures.org/ http://kyle-maynard.com/ https://yourscottsdalecoach.com/ The post College Student Climbs One Of The 7 Summits After Loss of Limbs appeared first on Inspired Media 360 TV - Inform | Inspire | Engage.

A brilliant and funny addition to the monthly range. @TinDogPodcast   On the planet Cicero Prime, the kingdom of Cardenas is divided, with the whole population forced to swear allegiance to either the effete Duke or the fiery, hard-edged Duchess. This is a situation both parties have grown tired of. What use is half a kingdom when, thanks to a carefully engineered murder, you could have it all? Surely, neither of them would be rash enough to summon the deadly off-world assassin The Scorpion to help with their problem? And surely, this terrifying figure wouldn’t arrive wearing a long cream coat and striped trousers…? We talk about Big Finish marking down releases from 51-100, and which ones are high caliber audios worthy of paying additional costs to own, and how these releases are don't stack up to the 1-50.   (22.28 minute mark) Once we get to the reviews, we begin with the Doctor Who Main Range releases #229 The Silurian Candidate; #230 Time In Office and #231 The Behemoth.  We reference previous episodes in the classic series, Warriors of the Deep (also an audio focus myself and Liam did on the podcast, http://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/id/3629494), Big Finish Main release #22 Bloodtide (both referencing the Silurians); other stories that were referenced that were Main Range 170 Spaceport Fear - featuring Mel & the 6th Doctor; 202 The Warehouse - featuring Mel and the 7th Doctor. (53:33) The Fourth Doctor two part adventure featuring Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor and Louise Jameson as Lela in the stories The Skin of the Sleek and The Thief Who Stole Time, both written by Marc Platt. (56:33) A quick Early Adventures review, as Liam has listened to both, and Brett has listened to neither The Night Witches and The Outliers. (58:48) Benny and the Unbound Doctor box set was discussed. (1:03:43) The Prisoner Volume 2 and the classic stories is discussed and reviewed. It will be exclusively available to buy from the BF website until December 31st 2017, and on general sale after this date. "10/10 This enjoyable yarn is high concept sci-fi at its best. The piece is a clever and topical commentary on age and its role in society...The Middle is a beautifully paced, thought-provoking and enjoyable piece of high concept science fiction. Definitely worth a listen if you’re a fan of hard Sci-Fi and enjoy the Sixth Doctor. Just remember…the End is the Beginning…"   "This is a great ‘fun-house mirror’ for our modern society on one hand, whilst a marvellous sci-fi bit of escapism on the other."  It’s L/Wren Mrs Constance Clarke’s birthday - and Flip is determined to make it an anniversary to remember. The futuristic colony of Formicia, where the pampered populace pass their days in endless leisure, seems the perfect place for a ‘Wren Party’. But all is not as it seems. Looking down from the Middle, the skyscraping tower that ascends as far as the colony ceiling, Formicia’s overseers can see that the Doctor doesn’t fit in - and it’s not just his coat that makes him conspicuous... “The End is the Beginning,” say the propaganda-like posters all over Formicia. Because to be part of this perfect society comes at a price. And the Doctor's already in arrears. Bath, 1756 – and a very dashing gentleman known only as the Doctor is newly arrived in town, accompanied by his lady friends Mrs Clarke and Mrs Ramon. Gaps in space/time, portents of the end of everything. Only three beings might prevent it. The Doctor, a renegade Time Lord from Gallifrey. The Master, another renegade Time Lord from Gallifrey. And another Master, yet another renegade Time Lord from Gallifrey. One Doctor. Two Masters. What could possibly go wrong? They say there'll be thousands pouring into Manchester tomorrow. From all over the county, north and south. It'll be a piece of history. People will remember this!" Lost in the smog of the Industrial Revolution, the TARDIS crashes four miles south of Manchester, in the grounds of Hurley Hall – a grand mansion belonging to a local factory owner, a proudly self-made man. But while Hurley dreams of growing richer still on the wealth of secret knowledge locked up in the Doctor's time and space machine, his servants hope only for a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. His young maid Cathy, for instance, whom Nyssa learns is looking forward to joining the working people's march to St Peter's Field, in the heart of the city. There'll be speeches and banners and music. It'll be like one big jamboree… Or so she thinks. For the city's establishment have called in their own private militia, to control the crowd. One of the darkest days in Manchester's history is about to unfold – and the Doctor, Nyssa and Tegan are right in the thick of it. Today should be much like every other day for Hargreaves, the computer consciousness that co-ordinates daily life aboard the spaceship Aquitaine, stationed on the outer fringes of a black hole. Water the plants, run the diagnostics, cook the Captain's breakfast; then tidy the plates away, rotate the ship, clean the windows of the observation deck. When at last the day's work is done, Hargreaves will dim the lights in the sleeping quarters. But no-one will sleep aboard the Aquitaine tonight. Because the Aquitaine's crew is missing. But today will be different. Today, a space/time ship called the TARDIS will materialise in the botanical section, bringing the Doctor, Nyssa and Tegan aboard the Aquitaine. Together, they'll seek to discover the truth of what happened to Hargreaves' crew… … if only the ghosts will let them. In episode 33, we begin briefly with the Steven Moffat Doctor Who News, with the news of Matthew Waterhouse reprising his role in the Doctor Who Short Trips later in 2016 and 2017.  Then the podcast begins with your discussion of the Doctor Who releases, starting with Main Range release #208 Waters of Amsterdam by Jonathan Morris. In this release, we discuss the time period where this episode fits, regarding the Classic Doctor Who universe with the Big Finish audios.  Then discuss how Tegan's character is drawn out more than most of the previous audios.  Next, we look at the Fourth Doctor Adventures #5.01 Waves of Destruction by Justin Richards.  In this adventure, Big Finish reunites Tom Baker and Lalla Ward in the TARDIS, something we have only had in three of Big Finishes Novel Adaptations.  Then we look at the Early Adventures, #2.04 The Isos Network by Nicholas Briggs, a great episode that slips perfectly between Invasion and The Krotons. We then review the non-Doctor Who releases.  First the ITV audio adaptations of The Prisoner written and directed by Nicholas Briggs,  featuring Mark Elstob as Number Six.  Nicholas Briggs wrote three adaptions of the classic series, with one amazing original story, Your Beautiful Village.  Finally, we finish the podcast with a review of The Avengers - Lost Episodes Volume 5,  featuring Anthony Howell (Dr Keel), Julian Wadham (John Steed). Because of storage space, part 2 of the 2015 Review podcast will not be released until February, as well as our Audio Only podcasts, where we review Spearhead From Space and The Web Planet, so please stay tuned for those.  Not to mention our February 2016 Big Finish podcast review.   Please email the show at: alhambraaudio@gmail.com Tweet the show: @AlhambraPodcast or @djNezumi or @Mavic_Chen Visit our website: AlhambraPodcast.weebly.com Stay tuned for future podcast which will feature fellow podcasters from Doctor Who: Dark Journey and Outpost Skaro.  Here's some information and links regarding these great podcasts. @AMAudioMedia (Dark Journey website) features a talented group of podcasters who make Doctor Who audio dramas.  The adventures are: Doctor Who meets Sherlock Holmes.  Give their audio drama podcasts a listen, you'll be in for a wonderful treat!   @Outpost_Skaro featuring Derek, Andy and Nate run this excellent podcast and discuss and review Doctor Who News as well as Classic Who, New Who, and Big Finish audio releases. Website Link

In episode 32, we begin with Doctor Who News, discussing the news that was revealed at Big Finish Day 8 with more Blake's 7, War Doctor Box set 4 with Leela. Starting with the month of January, we have some clips from Main Range 195 Mistfall, by Andrew Smith (writer of the classic story Full Circle). We gave some thoughts about the 4th Doctor getting an new companion that was not on the classic series (like the 6th Doctor).  We speculate on the Big Finish Novel Adaptation #11 being Lungbarrow as we review The Romance of Crime and The English Way of Death. I talk about my love of Film Noir detective radio shows, and why I appreciate The Avengers.  Liam explains to me the how Dark Shadows: Bloodlust works and thoughts on that range. Liam also continues to work on me to give Rise of the Runelords a listen, explaining and educating me on legends and D&D mythology. We continue on with the year's review looking at Main Range 196 release, Equilibrium, by Matt Litton. Liam gets after me (rightly so too), because I have not watched/listened to Blake's 7, Pathfinders, and then Gallifrey series, because my jumping on point was Gallifrey 7: Intervention Earth, due to reviews that I read told me it's a good jumping on point. We then look at the final episode of the 5th Doctor E-Space Trilogy, The Entropy Plague, by Jonathan Morris.  I go on about how great Requiem for the Rocket Men, by John Dorney, and the greatness of the Rocket Men trilogy using clips to try to prove my point.  Discuss Dark Eyes series 4 and the downfalls of this range compared to the greatness of Doom Coalition range.  I share a few clips and share my love for the Novel Adaptation The Well-Mannered War by Gareth Roberts. We also discuss the possibilities of if the unresolved ending to the Well-Mannered War will get resolved in Series 5 of The 4th Doctor Adventures. Episode 32 includes all the Big Finish titles either Brett or Liam has listened to and reviewed from January 2015 through April 2015.  Please stay tuned for Episode 33, which will include Big Finish reviews of titles from May 2015 through December 2015.   Please look out for and listen to the next Podcast release will be Spearhead From Space audio review, which will come out in December 2016. Episode 17 starts out with us talking about what we've been watching and listening to since last podcast.  From there we move on to Doctor Who and Big Finish news. Next, we look at "The State of Big Finish," where we look at their growth from 2013 to present. We do vent some frustration and annoyances with the lack of communication Big Finish has with their subscribers, but we do keep in mind that Big Finish does produce high quality audio dramas and we eagerly anticipate each month's release.  Then, we review the Main Range release 195 Mistfall, the first part of the 5th Doctor E-Space Trilogy.  From there we move to the Tom Baker release beginning with the 4th Doctor Adventure, The Exxilons, then transition to the Novalizations, The English Way of Death and Romance of Crime.  We acknowledge the Short Trips "Flywheel Revolution" and The Avengers Vol 3 release, but have no review at this time.  Liam finishes off with his thoughts on Blake's 7 full cast, Mindset, and the last Pathfinders Legend story for series 1.  Cam tries to make sense of some of the Pathfinders as well as the Dark Shadows - Bloodlush ranges. The show finishes off with the audio only review of the Sixth Doctor classic story, Mindwarp, and the tie-ins with Antidote of Oblivian, Peri and the Piscon Paradox, The Widow's Assassin, and The Rani's Elite (spoilers may occur if you haven't listened to any of those stories).

The 13th episode of the Doctor Who: Alhambra podcast, we discuss the news of Colin Baker's new companion for the next 6th Doctor main range release. Have a discussion of the new Doctor Who book, Engines of War, which features the War Doctor.  Sadly as of the recording of this episode, 25th of October, the Main Range release The Widows Assassin hadn't been release, so no review on that until November. We discuss the Early Adventure story "The Doctor's Tale."  Before we get into The Worlds of Doctor Who box set, we get distracted by some on-line community blind allegiance to only the Steven Moffat era of the New Who.  We discuss why the Sherlock episode length format could work better in the new series of Doctor Who.  Finally, after a rant that could have been go on even longer, but we got railed in (luckily). Next we move on to series 8 of Jago and Litefoot, which I cannot stop talking about one of my least favorite episode ever, and Liam trying to convince me otherwise. It leads to an impromptu ranking of the Doctor Who Big Finish audio musicals (Doctor Who and the Pirates, The Scorchies, and Encoure of the Scorchies).  After hitting each of the series 8 Jago and Litefoot stories, we move on to the whole reason why we started this podcast, discussing what Doctor Who is like for those who aren't able to visually watch it. My findings of purely listening to it was interesting and I appreciated Liam's perspective and his understanding of perhaps some insensative wording (I did stumble over my wording a lot during the segment, because I'd hate to offend anyone). We end the podcast by reviewing, with spoilers, the new series of Doctor Who stories: Kill the Moon, Mummy on the Orient Express, and Flatline. Stay tuned for our next audio only story, as we've yet to select one, but it will be determined soon!
