Elissa Felder buried her 4 month old firstborn son, Sam, exactly 35 years ago. She speaks with Eve Harow about her journey through her grief to a greater understanding of Judaism and specifically the customs of burial and the ideas of the afterlife. In her new book she shares the wisdom she has learned, for example; that death is life affirming and yet a transition; Jewish burial prepares you for the ultimate intimate encounter with God; grief can be compared to a snowflake that is unique to everyone and many more profound thoughts. Love and kindness is how we bring meaning to our very fleeting lives on earth. Elissa is also a coordinator for the international organization Core, encouraging women to strengthen their Jewish communities. She is beginning a book tour- invite her to your community for an evening of possibilities and deep faith.

She discusses her personal religious transformation and professional path, as well as the profound experiences following the loss of her child. Elissa delves into the cultural and religious aspects of Jewish mourning traditions, her involvement with the Chevra Kadisha, and how these experiences inspired her to write a book. She also offers insights into understanding grief, the concept of the soul in Jewish teachings, and the broader communal support for those who have lost loved ones. Alyssa's story is one of growth, learning, and the strength found within community and tradition. 00:00 Introduction and Welcome 01:08 Elissa's Background and Journey 02:00 Life in America and Professional Work 03:08 Personal Story and Book Inspiration 03:52 The Journey of Loss and Learning 06:11 Understanding and Sharing Grief 09:42 The Role of Chevra Kadisha 13:16 Jewish Burial Traditions and Beliefs 18:12 Reflections on Life and Death 30:05 The Power of Silence in Mourning 30:47 Personal Reflections on Shiva 33:04 Jewish Mourning Traditions and Practices 34:12 The Journey of the Soul 37:34 Losing a Child: A Deep Personal Loss 42:24 The Role of Chevra Kadisha 53:06 The Hierarchy of Loss and Grieving 58:01 Finding Meaning and Moving Forward About Our Guest: Elissa is the Coordinator of Core's Communities of Practice (CoP). Elissa was born in London, England and in 1985 married her American husband and they started their married life in Washington, DC. After the death of her first child, Elissa started to explore Judaism in much greater depth. The knowledge she has acquired motivated her to write a book which is a personal memoir of loss and grief with the Jewish teachings about life, death and the afterlife woven into the story. The book, “From One Life to the Next Life; The Sacred Passage After Death,” is due to be released at the beginning of the summer with Mosaica Press. So, I'm a college graduate??? Well, right now only half of one. I have 2 graduations; one already happened last week and this coming Tuesday is the second and final one. And you're probably reading this like “2 graduations???? Huh????” YUP TWO GRADUATIONS, and ya know, I deserve both of them too, especially considering the fact that I didn't even have a proper high school graduation lol. So, I figured why not do a little Q&A/life updates episode; I haven't done one of these since last year and since I'm moving on to the next chapter of my life, it's kinda like, might as well! I did a little poll on Stories as well as that little notes feature on Instagram asking you guys to give me questions and all that jazz. So I took questions from there as well as my DMs and kind of compiled the repetitive questions into a few topics that I will discuss today! Tune in to the full episode for more! Anita Comisky - Having embarked on multiple entrepreneurial journeys throughout my life, I discovered a newfound passion in my 50s. This led me to establish a nationally recognized candy brand from scratch. My unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction propelled the brand to remarkable heights, establishing me as a success in the confectionery industry. But my journey didn't end there. In my 60s, I embraced a fresh challenge as the controller for a rapidly growing startup. Drawing upon my extensive experience, strategic insight, and innate ability to navigate complex business landscapes, I played a pivotal role in guiding the company toward rapid growth and success.Throughout my journey, I've exemplified resilience, adaptability, and an insatiable thirst for exploration. I continue to inspire others with my tenacity, proving that age is merely a number when it comes to pursuing one's passions and achieving remarkable feats in the world of business.Michelle Belloit—Raised in a family of business owners, entrepreneurship felt like second nature to me. I've held various roles as an owner, partner, consultant, and investor in businesses, embracing the dynamic landscape of entrepreneurship. While raising my children, I delved into emotional intelligence and self-improvement. These explorations ignited a vision of the life I wanted to craft. Consequently, I transitioned into professional life coaching, focusing on empowering aspiring women business owners to realize their potential and achieve their goals.

Feeling stuck and dissatisfied with where you are in your life is never a place we want to be in. Perhaps you are contemplating a major life change - moving to a new city, quitting your job, leaving a long term relationship - that you believe will be the antidote to your future happiness and fulfilment. Psychology shows that this might not always be the case. Wanting to change something about our environment may reflect that the true change we need to make is internal. Podcast Overview: Franky & Will discuss touring life, having gratitude for the job, taking his career worldwide, his residency at Club Chinois in Ibiza & having a 'sound' as a DJ. Who Is Franky Wah: A truly contemporary artist, Franky Wah's music epitomises the exhilarating power of club culture. Born and raised in Yorkshire, in the north of England, Franky has an intuitive understanding of emotion, dance floor energy and catchy hooks culminating in a sound that resonates with both the underground and commercial ends of the dance music spectrum. A series of chart-topping releases have catapulted him into the public eye, where he's picked up a dedicated fanbase, as well as backing from his peers and idols. This includes a glittering endorsement from Pete Tong who tipped Franky as one of his Future Stars for 2020 and regular spins on Radio 1 from Annie Mac, Danny Howard and Mistajam. He set up his own label Shen in 2019, launching with a two-track EP of his own music: ‘Nightfall' and ‘Next Life', two tracks that further demonstrated his confident grasp of varying styles. The two cuts, plus support from luminaries such as Sasha and contemporary tastemakers like Adriatique, got the label off to a flying start. With years of hard work already behind him, Franky's is by no means an overnight success and he is intent on achieving longevity while maintaining his credibility. With his natural talent, armory of dance floor weapons, positive attitude and high work ethic, there's no doubt that Franky Wah will achieve an enduring legacy and a whole lot more… If you would like to join my community to carry on with all of these discussions please sign up to the link here: http://willclarke.club/ Learn more about your ad choices. Using the example of Paul in the Bible, we explore the idea of giving up everything for the surpassing value of knowing Jesus. We discuss the subtle nature of regret and how it can arise from small, incremental decisions that take us off the path we truly desire. Our discussion centers around the idea of fighting for what is yours and making choices that awaken the soul and lead to a fulfilling life. We also examine the life of Elisha and how it can inspire us to live our lives to the fullest. Join us for an insightful and thought-provoking discussion on how to live a life with purpose and meaning and the importance of saving nothing for the next life.
