The NFL Combine is this week in Indianapolis and Pete Carroll was on the podium to take questions about some of the offseason changes to the Seahawks. Seattle's head coach talked about the decision to move on from Ken Norton Jr., the promotion of defensive line coach Clint Hurtt and the recruiting effort to get Sean Desai as the associate head coach. He said that they have been making some subtle changes on defense, but the moves now allow them to make significant changes that the defensive players will enjoy. Carroll talked about the decision to move on from Mike Solari and promote Andy Dickerson and answered more questions about the status of Russell Wilson with the team. He also offered some injury updates on DK Metcalf, Chris Carson and Quandre Diggs. The Seattle Seahawks are making moves but still haven't officially announced that Clint Hurtt is the defensive coordinator, what is the hold-up? Also, Mike Solari is out as the offensive line coach, and why doesn't Pete just run the defense... What if Tom Brady decided to return to NFL and play for the Niners, could that be a possibility.
Camp stew is back, we play audio from Hugh Millen on the importance of Dee Eskridge getting healthy so he can participate in training camp, Pete Carroll on the defense, and Ian Furness chats with offensive line coach Mike Solari! The PAC-12 has something up their sleeve, don't they...
We all know that the Seahawks will get a deal done with Jamal Adams, and we know the amount of money is going to be huge, but is he worth the cost? Not everyone is on the same page. New Seahawks RB Carlos Hyde spoke to media yesterday and explained why Seattle was the right place for him to land. Mike Tice is joined by two NFL offensive line coaches, Seattle's Mike Solari and Buffalo's Bobby Johnson, to each talk about their respective units and how their depth has rounded into form as Week 1 of the NFL season begins.
We start off the show with some sad news this week after Chuck Knox passed away at the age of 86. Seahawks fans also got some closure on Cliff Avril's injury as he was waived from the team. But the positive news was that he'd be sticking around and joining a local radio station. The Seahawks are back! Back to being the underdogs we've known prior to their Super Bowl victory. Adam and Brandan talk about why that is while going into some of the questions that we have about the 2018 season. Among those questions has to do with the offensive line and a recent Field Gulls article has Adam musing if Mike Solari is the coaching version of Jay Cutler. In other news, after retiring from coaching, Bruce Arians may now be more of a part of our lives as Seahawks fans than he was by coaching in the division. Earl Thomas is still in the news and we expect that he is probably not going to get an extension before the season. But he is going to be a member of the Seahawks this year - so stop it with the Cowboys talk! And speaking of the things that are silly to talk about, Russell Wilson expecting a franchise tag in 2020 is another one of them. But when Pete Carroll is throwing around glowing praise for their new 7th round quarterback, maybe his agent wants to try and cash in on a new contract right now. What can't Alex McGough do? We go over some of the news and quotes from Pete Carroll from rookie minicamp and we bring you some exclusive audio that will have you hyped up for one of this year's draft picks Michael-Shawn Dugan, @MikeDugar on Twitter, joins the show to talk about what he saw at rookie minicamp. Dugar, formerly of the Seattle PI, is now a writer for The Athletic. His latest article discusses the Seahawks receiving corps and we talk about his roster breakdown and talk about if the Seahawks make a mistake by not drafting a receiver. Or should they count on the guys they brought in from recent years? The dishooplafication of the Seahawks Roster continues and this time they make a sensible decision when it comes to having a tight end with the proper number of Ls in his name. We talk about the latest Supreme Court ruling and the expectation that it will lead to more gambling on NFL games. The guys talk about several issues around that before closing out with a Do Better for some crazy shifts in the media narrative toward the Seahawks based on people they visit with and to the Denver airport for inadequate signage. Better at life honors close the show for the Electronic Frontier Foundation and a company that is bringing space age technology to one of Adam's favorite past times. The Gameplan Podcast processes the coaching changes made by Pete Carroll on the Seahawks staff, including Brian Schottenheimer, Mike Solari and Ken Norton Jr.
A major shakeup in terms of the number of coaches turned over in the past week for the Seahawks, but we explore whether it really is a major overhaul in terms of philosophy for the team. Adam and Brandan discuss some of the major similarities with the new coaches compared to the former coaches who held the position. Brian Schottenheimer replaces Darrell Bevell, Mike Solari is in for Tom Cable and Ken Norton Jr. returns to the team to take over for Kris Richard. Adam explains why he is two-thirds excited over these changes. Keith Myers of 12th Man Rising and co-host of the Hawks Playbook podcast joins the show to talk about the departure of Tom Cable and the impact he had on the offensive line during his tenure with the Seahawks. He also offers his thoughts on Mike Solari and why he's excited about the Seahawks going back to the coach who held the job during two of the worst Seahawks seasons in recent history. The Seahawks have their first arrest of the offseason as Jeremy Lane expresses his surprise that people can get a DUI for substances other than alcohol. The guys discuss the idea of having toxicity brackets considering how terrible some people are at driving even when they are sober. Looking way ahead to 2018, there is already a game for fans to mark on their calendar as the Seahawks are set to take on the Oakland Raiders in Week 6 in London. The guys talk about some of the logistics associated with the game and all of the excitement among fans overseas surrounding the game. A note to mock draft headline writers and writers who express surprise over the crazy things that happen during their personal mock drafts. And how the NFL rules committee needed to do better leading into the playoffs to get away from meaningless moments after games end in spectacular fashion. The guys close the show by honoring Cliff Avril's passion to return to the field and to Vikings fans for recognizing an act of sportsmanship in their big win over the Saints. He joined us here at XYPN in 2014, and we've gotten to witness his business grow as he's built a practice that serves about 26 people - two-thirds of which are on retainer. In this interview, Mike talks about his biggest struggles and successes running the business, and how he's made up for his own shortcomings with grit and education.
