In a game filled with bizarre moments (particularly on special teams) Leonard Williams emerged as the standout player of the game once again. Williams delivered a blocked extra point, a pick-six, and critical sacks to help secure a Seahawks victory. Mookie Alexander of Field Gulls joins the show to talk about the biggest comeback win of the Geno Smith era. However, Geno and the offense will need to clean up their act moving forward, particularly with their goal-to-go offense, where questionable play-calling and execution nearly kept the Seahawks from getting the comeback win. Dayna O'Gorman is BACK! My former Field Gulls co-host, who you've also seen and heard on Our Turf and Real Hawk Talk, joins me today to catch up for the first time since right before Pete Carroll was fired (literally RIGHT before!) I'll get her thoughts on what's happened since then, how she views this young coaching staff, what (kind of) scares her about it, and so much more.... Geno, yay or nay? Should we expect a different M.O. from John Schneider now without Pete around? How far away are the Seahawks from being able to compete with the Chiefs and other elite teams? Now that most of the coaching staff is set, and a decision has been made (for now) on Geno Smith's roster status, it's time to start getting on with the rest of the offseason. With the NFL Combine, free agency and the draft on the horizon, there are matters of roster building to be addressed. Who better to join the show to discuss these things than Mookie Alexander, who runs the outstanding Seahawks website Field Gulls. Mookie shares his thoughts on the coaching staff Mike Macdonald is putting together, which direction he wants the Hawks to go in the upcoming draft, and tries to tackle the question of just why so many fans are against the idea of Smith remaining the team's starting QB... and so much more! As things stand today, the Seattle Seahawks are currently OVER the salary cap headed into the 2024 season, but don't panic. The team has plenty of avenues to clear payroll space to retain or add key players. Just what those moves are and which players they'll impact will depend largely on who is hired as the next head coach to succeed Pete Carroll, who was fired January 10th after 14 seasons at the helm. Field Gulls deputy editor and salary cap expert John Gilbert joins me on this episode to discuss a number of ways the Seahawks can manipulate their salary cap. How much can the team clear in payroll space? Which players would need to be cut or traded to create the most flexibility? Which players on the current roster are "no-brainers" to be released? With one week left to go in the preseason, our earlier hopes of maintaining health on the roster have not held up. Only a few rookies from the draft class have seen time in both preseason game, and the two first round picks are projected to miss time in the regular season. Injuries at wide receiver could make it easier for at least one of the preseason crushes to make the 53-man roster. Drew Lock has played well this preseason and even has some fans wondering if he could be better than Geno. But is there anything that Drew could do at this point to play his way into the starting lineup? Who else could play their way into a roster spot in the game coming up against the Packers? One UDFA wide receiver was highly touted coming out of high school and had a nice showing against the Cowboys. He could make the type of special teams impact that ends up making him worthy of a roster spot. Mookie Alexander of Field Gulls has published a potential 53-man roster going into the final game of the preseason. We run through and see where we agree and disagree with some of the final picks to make the team. In our Do Better segment we learn about an annoying black bear and a drone with questionable motives. Better at Life honors go out to a fishing charter and Richard Sherman for one of the best interviews of Pete Carroll that we've heard.
My old Field Gulls cohorts join me for a pre-camp preview **Who/what are they MOST EXCITED to see in camp? **Who/what CONCERNS them the most at this point? **Which THROWBACK JERSEY are they buying first? **Which player could the Seahawks LEAST afford to lose to preseason injury? **State of the Union, where does this roster stand now after all the Russell Wilson dust has settled. "We want the ball and we're gonna score" came at the end of a really fun game where Mike Holmgren and Matt Hasselbeck stepped from a cheesehead-sized shadow. Brett Favre and Co. also found themselves in a period of transition in the new century, with the offense routing through Ahman Green for 2,200-plus yards. It's January 2003, Seahawks at Packers. Cap Guru John Gilbert from Field Gulls joins me to discuss the Seattle Seahawks current salary cap status. We discuss.... Why is John Schneider talking so much about "cash and cap" this offseason, and is it cause for concern? Where does the team currently sit with cap space? Is there enough to sign their 10 draft picks? How can they add more veterans, what's the easiest path to creating more cap space? How does the cap stand as we look forward to 2024 and even 2025? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/seahawksforever-danviens/message

Dayna, Dan and Brandan join the show to say their goodbyes and talk about some of the latest Seahawks news. Bobby Wagner was released by the Rams this week. Could a return to Seattle be possible considering the Seahawks situation? The Athletic released a story this week about Russell Wilson's season in Denver that included a portion about a request to have Pete Carroll and John Schneider fired. This may be the story that closes the book (for now) on Wilson's time in Seattle. Finally, we look ahead to the draft and why the Seahawks could, and should, look hard at this year's tight end class. Plus a few free agent targets to consider and why they may not be in position to heavily involve themselves in the early stages of free agency. Learn more about your ad choices. 10 years after drafting him, the Seattle Seahawks have traded Russell Wilson. The Seahawks received a great trade package for a guy who only once cost them a third round pick, but the impact of parting with the most renowned quarterback in franchise history--if not the most important player to ever suit up for Seattle--can't be understated. We will try though. I started writing about the Seahawks at Field Gulls in the middle of 2011. Russell Wilson joined in 2012. He started every game for the Seahawks for almost a decade. Playoffs. Super Bowls. I've written more words about Wilson than I've dedicated to any other person in history. Now it's time to set him free and look to a new future. To do that, I gave an instant reaction to the trade news and shared in it with Sam Gold. You know him from Field Gulls, from YouTube, and from Twitter @SamuelRGold. If you don't know him, now you do.
