Cold War RAF pilot Jeremy Lane, shares his gripping experiences, from nuclear bombing missions to a close encounter with a UFO. He was trained to fly the Canberra aircraft on nuclear bombing missions and describes how the American weaponry they would have used required dual control from both the President of the United States and the British Prime Minister. Jeremy also describes the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) duties where aircraft were always on standby, ready to fly their nuclear missions at a moment's notice. He shares his experiences with escape and evasion training, designed to prepare pilots for the possibility of being shot down over enemy territory. The training was gruelling, involving everything from water survival exercises, evading capture in the wilderness and how to stand up to interrogation. It was a stark reminder of the risks these pilots faced daily. However, it wasn't all tension and drills. Life on the squadron had its moments of camaraderie and even humour. Our guest recounts how young pilots, feeling invincible, would joke about heading west instead of completing their mission if war ever broke out. The episode concludes with a truly extraordinary story—a close encounter with a UFO. During a night flight exercise, our guest, his crew and other aircraft witnessed a mysterious, pulsating object in the sky. Jeremy Lane's fascination for aviation was nurtured by countless childhood hours watching aircraft at Staverton Airport and North Weald. He shares his experiences flying the Jet Provost and later, the Canberra. He describes the capabilities of this versatile and iconic aircraft, from high-speed reconnaissance to its nuclear role. The Canberra's design, with its twin jet engines and rudimentary navigation equipment, required high skill and constant attention. The stories of flying at low levels, navigating with minimal aids, and the ever-present risk of engine failure provide a gripping insight into the life of an RAF pilot. This episode is a treasure trove of aviation history and personal anecdotes. Whether you're an aviation enthusiast or simply curious about the life of an RAF pilot, this episode offers a compelling and immersive experience. We didn't think it would happen last offseason, and we still didn't expect it to happen this offseason, but Richard Sherman is no longer a member of the Seahawks now. What's worse is that he's actually a member of the San Francisco 49ers. A team that he seemed to have an strong sports hate for himself while Jim Harbaugh was coaching there. Adam and Brandan talk about how difficult it is to see him go there, but also with an understanding of why it made it an easy choice for him based on the circumstances. A big cast of characters is heading out the door as we enter free agency and we give a Hunger Games style sendoff to Sherman, Deshawn Shead, Jeremy Lane, Jimmy Graham, Paul Richardson and Sheldon Richardson. As all those players head out the door there's just a few coming back through it to start free agency. The guys talk about why that is and what it could mean for the upcoming season at this point. Because this was a tough week for so many of us, we read a few thoughts from listeners of the show and take some questions that came in via email. It really looks as though we've come to the end of an era of a historically great Seahawks defense and it opens up the doors for Pete Carroll and John Schneider to make a run at putting together another team that may be structured in a different way. Closing out the show, Adam has words for the state of Delaware, while Brandan takes offense to athletes who are taking issue with the thoughts from fans when it comes to fan expectations this time of year. Adam memorializes one of the great theoretical physicists and Brandan explains that even as a member of the 49ers, Richard Sherman is still better at life than Skip Bayless. A major shakeup in terms of the number of coaches turned over in the past week for the Seahawks, but we explore whether it really is a major overhaul in terms of philosophy for the team. Adam and Brandan discuss some of the major similarities with the new coaches compared to the former coaches who held the position.  Brian Schottenheimer replaces Darrell Bevell, Mike Solari is in for Tom Cable and Ken Norton Jr. returns to the team to take over for Kris Richard. Adam explains why he is two-thirds excited over these changes. Keith Myers of 12th Man Rising and co-host of the Hawks Playbook podcast joins the show to talk about the departure of Tom Cable and the impact he had on the offensive line during his tenure with the Seahawks. He also offers his thoughts on Mike Solari and why he's excited about the Seahawks going back to the coach who held the job during two of the worst Seahawks seasons in recent history. The Seahawks have their first arrest of the offseason as Jeremy Lane expresses his surprise that people can get a DUI for substances other than alcohol. The guys discuss the idea of having toxicity brackets considering how terrible some people are at driving even when they are sober. Looking way ahead to 2018, there is already a game for fans to mark on their calendar as the Seahawks are set to take on the Oakland Raiders in Week 6 in London. The guys talk about some of the logistics associated with the game and all of the excitement among fans overseas surrounding the game. A note to mock draft headline writers and writers who express surprise over the crazy things that happen during their personal mock drafts. And how the NFL rules committee needed to do better leading into the playoffs to get away from meaningless moments after games end in spectacular fashion. The guys close the show by honoring Cliff Avril's passion to return to the field and to Vikings fans for recognizing an act of sportsmanship in their big win over the Saints. The Seahawks make a big move at the trade deadline to get an All-Pro caliber offensive lineman as Duane Brown comes to the team. Seattle gives up a couple of high draft picks and end up keeping Jeremy Lane after he fails a physical. Brandan is baffled that the Texans would find a way to send him back to Seattle, especially considering the outcome of what may have been the best NFL game to watch this year. The Seahawks and Texans battled back and forth the entire game. Seattle was the only team with back-to-back scores and Russell Wilson accumulates another "stat." Although the Seahawks defense gave up nearly 40 points, there were some noteworthy performances on the defensive line and multiple interceptions by the Legion of Boom helped Russell Wilson and the offense to rack up enough points in a shootout nobody could have predicted. The guys talk about Deshaun Watson and how he deserves praise for the kind of performance that even veteran quarterbacks haven't been able to achieve in Seattle. The guys look ahead to Sunday's upcoming game against Washington, offer a look at their talent that Seattle fans should be aware of and discuss why the condition their opponent's offensive line has Adam wishing for the perfect weather to give Kirk Cousins something to look forward to. In the second half of the show, Brandan gives a mid-season update on the bet with the Rams Podcast. There's a new patch donated from a member of the flock to go out to podcast listeners and a new prize to offer up to the pick'em league champion. Do better nods this week go out to an Ad Council commercial that features some creepy cutaways and to the national media for not giving the Seahawks the appropriate level of attention after their latest win. To close out the show, Brandan gives a better at life award to the Texans quarterback for joining an elite trio of quarterbacks and Adam professes his love to the Seahawks general manager for doing something about an issue he's been complaining about for a while. It's a Seahawks blowout on Sunday Night Football as the Seahawks get the 46-18 win, but it's important to remind ourselves that the Seahawks were tied with 20 minutes left in this game. It wasn't until Russell Wilson showed some emotion getting into the end zone that it seemed to propel the team in the second half. While it's a bit cliché to refer to football as a game of inches, we saw why in this game. Every inch seemed to go Indy's way in the first half, and Seattle ended up getting those same breaks in the second half. Last week, we talked about Justin Coleman's absence since seeing him take over for Jeremy Lane in game one. Now Coleman has earned a new nickname thanks to some help from Jacoby Brissett in reuniting the young corner with his family. This is the week to say CATFISH the Rams. Los Angeles is leading the NFL in points and has been very productive on offense early on this season. With injuries stacking up after last week's game, the guys look at who has been practicing and who will be out. Rees Odhiambo had a scary injury against the Colts and incredibly looks like he's on his way to play in the game against the Rams. Adam points out how this is a different Rams team this year. This will be the first time in many years the Seahawks face this team without Jeff Fisher leading the team. The defense continues to be scary, but the guys talk about one weakness that teams have been exploiting throughout the first quarter of the season this year. In the second half of the show the guys welcome some new members of the flock and Brandan talks about his experience at the game this past Sunday. Brandan calls out a member of the flock who needs to do better, and Adam has words for Cam Newton who embarrassed himself with his comments to a female reporter this week. Seattle drops its first game of the 2017 season after going into Lambeau Field and losing 17-9 to the Green Bay Packers. Despite the Seahawks remaining winless there since 1999, fans had a lot of reason for optimism after seeing how the defense performed against one of the league's top teams and top quarterback. The Seahawks defense nearly got the team its first points on an Aaron Rodgers interception by rookie Naz Jones. But the play was called back because of a pair of penalties, one that got Jeremy Lane ejected from the game less than 10 defensive snaps into the game. The ejection gave Pete Carroll and the Seahawks an long look at rookie Shaquille Griffin and slot corner Justin Coleman. Both seemed to complement a squad stacked with Pro Bowl defenders. Former Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson played like the interior defender the Seahawks have been looking for. The guys talk about the historic defense Pete Carroll grew up watching and how that might play a role in his continued pursuit toward producing an all-time defensive unit. While penalties did play a role in this game, it wasn't the reason they lost. Adam and Brandan talk about the plays that would have allowed Seattle to come away with a victory. Coming back home to play a 49ers team that also struggled to move the ball should give them a good chance to get in win column. Which team can fix their offensive line issues enough in time for Sunday will have an edge over the competition. The talent differential between these two teams is a big gap to overcome for the 49ers and first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan. Adam talks about how the vistitng coaches gutsy nature could factor into the game. After last week's show, we learned details from an incident Michael Bennett was involved with in Las Vegas a couple weeks back. The guys share some clips of the press conference  from Las Vegas police and some of the stories players shared during their talks with local media. Do better callouts this week go to a team that reminds Brandan of his kids' poor habit of not listening the first time as Adam calls out a sideline reporter. Seahawks training camp is underway and Brandan and Adam are jacked up and ready to go for the 2017 season. The guys break down what Chancellor has meant to the club over the past years, some of the moments where he's changed games, and why the role he plays with the team is so important. Not only is Kam back and ready, other members of the Legion of Boom are standing out including Earl Thomas as well as early reports of Jeremy Lane making strides to securing the cornerback spot opposite Richard Sherman. Not all news is good though. Camp starts without the Seahawk top pick in town after an reported ATV injury kept Malik McDowell from reporting on time. Questions still remain over the extent of his injuries. Defense and special teams carried the day for most of the game and the offense comes up with a 75-yard drive when they need it most to earn the victory. While Brandan wants to hand deliver a game ball to Dolphins receiver Kenny Stills, Adam gives his to Jeremy Lane who had a tremendous impact as part of the Legion of Boom. The defense, apart from one star player, seemed to have its swagger and looked like the defense that led the scoring the past four years. The guys preview the game against the Rams and cover the most interesting play from their week 1 game against the 49ers. Adam talks about how fans can completely throw logic out the window when it comes to the games where the Seahawks play the Rams. Former Seahawks long snapper and Army veteran Nate Boyer returns to the show and the guys discuss the Seahawks demonstration of unity and talk about their disappointment with much of the media leading up to the game. He also talks about the moment he decided he was going to give long snapping a try and unfortunately his phone hasn't been ringing this preseason to get back into competing for a position on an NFL team. Adam wants a phone that fits in his hand and has the ability to text in an italics font. The Seahawks have been winless against Pittsburgh for more than 10 years, and with the 39-30 victory the Seahawks beat a Ben Roethlisberger-led Steelers team for the first time. Adam and Brandan take a look at a couple critical errors by the Steelers and how the Seahawks were able to continue to show promise through improved offensive line play. Jimmy Graham is out for the season with a knee injury. How is this going to impact this team moving forward and how might the team respond to one of its top players going down just when things were starting to look like they were coming together. Next up, a Vikings team that has earned it's 8-3 record by running the ball well and playing defense. The guys look at ways the Seahawks may want to attack Minnesota's defense and how critical it will be for the Seattle defense to hold Adrian Peterson to minimal yards, get out to an early lead and attempt to make the Vikings team one dimensional. The guys get into your emails and it becomes clear that the win over the Steelers struck a chord with some Seahawks fans. Do better nods go to the NFL head of officiating and Steelers fans. Better at life honors go toward a play caller who has taken a lot of heat this season and Jeremy Lane after coming back into the lineup for the team for the first time since the Super Bowl loss. iTunes | Stitcher | TuneIn | Facebook | Twitter | RSS Call or text: 253-235-9041Email: gohawks@seahawkerspodcast.comVisit Patreon.com if you'd like to help support the show and get bonus contentDownload our free Amazon app, Android app, or iOS app Find Sea Hawkers clubs around the world at SeaHawkers.orgMusic from the show by The 12 Train, download each track at ReverbNation
