Our goal with our leader chats is to provide our educational leaders with pragmatic input, advice, and direction that adds to their skillset and perspective. It's fair to say that we nailed it with this episode due to the work of David Noble and Carol Kauffman. Their book, Real Time Leadership is one we highly suggest you look into right away. When you listen to their wise advice, likely you will understand why. One thing that is great about this discussion, is that their leadership expertise in fact does not only pertain to education. Jeff always aims to make sure our content is well-rounded, so as leaders, we are always trying to look beyond our field to learn and grow.   By the way, I am Kris Richard, the producer of this show. If you like our Leader Chats, please rate us or leave a comment. We always appreciate listener feedback and would love to hear from you.

League Openings We have one opening in an IDP-only league with a $55 buy-in. We draft before the NFL Draft and currently entering season three of this dynasty league. If you are interested or want more details please reach out to me (@HollywoodTitan) or @KBellf54. We also have an opening in one of our listener leagues. It's free but a very competitive league. Offense & defense dynasty league looking for a good owner. News and Notes Two Eagles have flown away as former Philadelphia OC Shane Steichen was recently hired as the Colts' new Head Coach while former DC Jonathan Gannon was hired as the Cardinals' Head Coach. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the Eagles are expected to "make a big push" to keep S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson this offseason. The leader for the Denver Broncos' open DC job is Rex Ryan, followed by Vance Joseph and Kris Richard. 49ers EDGE Nick Bosa has been named the Associated Press 2022 Defensive Player of the Year. Bosa produced 51 tackles (41 solos), 19 TFL, a league-leading 18.5 sacks, and 48 QB hits this season. Jets CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner has been named the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year. Gardner had a stellar rookie season compiling 75 tackles (51 solos), 3 TFLs, a league-leading 20 passes defended, and 2 interceptions. ESPN's Rich Cimini expects the Jets to release DE Carl Lawson. The Jets have $37 million tied up in Lawson ($15M) and LB C.J. Mosley ($22M). Releasing Lawson would clear his entire $15 million salary while Mosley could be asked to restructure. Washington coach Ron Rivera said the team has opened contract talks with DT Daron Payne. The Commanders didn't extend Payne last offseason, letting Payne play out his fifth-year option. Payne went on to produce career-highs in tackles (64), sacks (11.5), TFL (18), QB hits (20), and passes defended (5). The Athletic's Zac Jackson writes "it feels like" John Johnson won't be back with the Browns in 2023. Johnson had a down season and is one of Cleveland's best avenues to clear cap space this offseason. He's got a $13.5 million cap number and the Browns can save $12.6 million by cutting him. The Athletic's Matt Barrows writes the 49ers are "unlikely" to pick up Javon Kinlaw's fifth-year option in May. Ravens DE Calais Campbell announced he would return for a 16th season in 2023. As the New Orleans Saints look to solve their big outstanding quarterback questions, general manager Mickey Loomis makes it clear that Jameis Winston is absolutely an option for the team, as long as the team is an option for him. Along with Winston, another name continues to creep into conversations: Teddy Bridgewater. The former New Orleans Saints could see a reunion with a team he led to a 5-0 record in 2019. Even though it doesn't look like the team is ready to turn things over to a rookie QB, it doesn't rule out investing in one for the second straight year.Dennis Allen clarifies the responsibilities of co-defensive coordinators Kris Richard and Ryan Nielsen. Who called the final shots and how the decisions will be made will all come down to one voice: Dennis Allen's. A clear division of labor and detailed plan was necessary in order for this to be successful, the Saints feel like they've struck that balance.Kodi Burns and Matt Rhea seem like home run hires for the New Orleans Saints, but why? Dennis Allen talked about the successful landings at wide receiver coach and the newly added director of sports science. Rhea had a remarkable impact on the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Saints feel that he can bring that same innovation to their strength, conditions, preparation, recovery, and practice processes. Meanwhile Kodi Burns is a noted developer and evaluator of talent. His ability to adjust the roles of former draft prospects could be a projection for the difference he could make for New Orleans receivers.Follow & Subscribe to the Locked On Saints Podcast on these platforms…

New continues to circulate around the New Orleans Saints potentially going with both Kris Richard and Ryan Nielsen as co-defensive coordinators. What would the division of labor be not just between the two of them, but with Dennis Allen calling plays as well? How the the player personnel helps to make a difference and why the Saints should go about this with extreme caution. The Minnesota Vikings tried to get this done in 2020 and 2021 with Andre Patterson and Adam Zimmer and things didn't go to plan even with Mike Zimmer, a defensive genius, calling the plays. How the Saints could avoid this kind of production comes down to who is already in the building, the players, and the continuity and trust throughout the organization.Should the Saints look to draft a quarterback in the first round? Why Malik Willis should be on the Saints radar at 18, but beyond that, it's all about who "the guy" could be. Outside of that, no need to rush into a quarterback in the first round. The New Orleans Saints will be searching for new offensive and defensive coordinators. Two huge roles to fill. However, quarterback should be the top priority right away. Jameis Winston feels like the obvious and most attainable choice, but the Saints don't usually stop at what's simply most attainable, they go for the extensive search. Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr, and others may be on the market this offseason. Expect the Saints to leave no stone unturned. They may have to work similarly to replace Pete Carmichael as offensive coordinator. Carmichael is rumored to be sticking with the Saints, but not as offensive coordinator. If that's the Saints, New Orleans will be looking for a play-caller on the offensive side. Could Eric Bieniemy be hitting the market as some rumors begin to stir? Without any other head coaching jobs open, a lateral move may be his only option. And he spent a lot of time with the Saints.Additionally, the team will be in search of a defensive coordinator. New Orleans has two really phenomenal internal candidates with Ryan Nielsen and Kris Richard. Both of which bring a ton of respect. But a key external candidate could be Minnesota Vikings co-defensive coordinator Andre Patterson. With Dennis Allen wanting to call plays, Patterson could be the perfect developing piece to add to the defense at either coordinator or DL coach.Follow & Subscribe to the Locked On Saints Podcast on these platforms…

With New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton having stepped down, the search begins for the next leader of the franchise. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has gained the respect of his team, fellow staff, and the league throughout his time in New Orleans. Because of that, he's considered the in-house favorite to land the head coach job as the heir to Payton. Allen's institutional history and knowledge are second to none with two culture-defining stints with the tea and head coaching experience. Allen's most important skills include innovation, scheme building, and development of talent. Once the personnel of the defensive roster matched Allen's vision, he turned a historically bad unit into a top-five defense. Could he do something similar as the leader of the entire team which just suffered a down year on the offensive side? His track record as a teacher and innovator are highlighted by the massive amount of respect he's earned during his tenure.Allen won't be the only in-house candidate for the team, however. Assistant head coach and defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen, defensive backs Kris Richard, and offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael all deserve a seat at the top to make their pitch as well. Why each one of them is uniquely qualified, if not for the head coaching position, for a move up that could be necessary if Dennis Allen takes over as head coach.Follow & Subscribe to the Locked On Saints Podcast on these platforms…

The New Orleans Saints head coaching position is now open for the first time in over 15 years. The With Sean Payton retiring, at least for the 2022 season, the Saints should focus on casting a very wide net to fill their open position. Payton could just be taking a year off, but the Saints should work hard to maximize their future in either case and remain as competitive as possible. Names from across the NFL that are currently getting interviews will likely turn their heads down south now that a very desirable job has opened in the Big Easy. Bria Daboll, Eric Bienemy, Mike McDaniel, and other offensive minded coaches along with the defensive minded bunch including Aaron Glenn, Vance Joseph, and Brian Flores should all be under consideration. If the Saints choose to stay in-house, they'll have to fight off some competition with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen receiving interest from the Chicago Bears and defensive backs coach Kris Richard engaged with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens who are each looking for their next DC. But if the Saints want, they could promote Dennis Allen to head coach, move Ryan Nielsen or Kris Richard up to defensive coordinator or make Richard their new assistant head coach. Internal offensive candidates like Pete Carmichael should get some attention as well. What Sean Payton will be remembered for in New Orleans goes beyond their success on the field. He was a cultural figurehead for the organization that changed, healed, and promoted a community approach to the culture of the New Orleans Saints. He was also a championship for progressing the NFL's most damaged practices and led the charge in changing the way the game was perceived, positions were played, and more He'll be remember for his legacy in the NFL, beyond and within New Orleans if this is truly the end for his coaching career.Follow & Subscribe to the Locked On Saints Podcast on these platforms…

If the Saints choose to go out of the facility to fill the spot, they could look to an old friend of head coach Sean Payton's in former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer.Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill both exceeded expectations in 2021, but one finite detail can be missed about Winston's passing distribution that speak positively of his decision-making, which was previously in question.
