This is the first episode of a three part series. Often in Scripture, we read about the role of a shepherd. A shepherd's role encompasses finding, feeding, and fighting for his sheep. Christ exemplifies this perfectly and is rightfully called, “The Good Shepherd.” As disciplers, Jesus is calling us to go out and do the same. That's what this series is about- finding, feeding, and fighting for the lost lambs of God. On this episode, we will be looking at Finding. In Matthew 18, we read about the willingness of the Shepherd to leave the 99 to go and find the one lost sheep. Today, we will talk to Charles Sombrio, the Chi Alpha campus pastor at West Virginia University and hear some of his convictions about the motive and call to go out and find people. We will also talk to Jeff Godfrey, a small group leader at WVU and hear what its been like for him to grow over time and get better at evangelism and hear him talk about what motivates him to keep going out after 5 years of small group leading. After 11 months we have seen nothing but full blown heavy drama that sees no end in sight. Being thankful this year has a whole new meaning. To many they have a new lease on being thankful, while others are far from it. Bottom line, people are going along with it, but their hearts are not in it. The whole idea of thankfulness has only it's symbol of a cooked turkey, mashed potatoes, and apple pie. I think most people who are gathering together are doing so with heaviness. A few nights ago I awoke thinking about Thanksgiving coming up, and what it really means to be thankful. I started to think about what I am truly thankful for. A flood of very bad memories, even the worse ones that made me wince, came flooding in. It was like watching a video of my whole life play out before my eyes. I said to the Lord, "Oh Lord, no, I don't want to remember that, or that!" Then I wished He would erase the worse ones away. Then I remembered that I had begged Him long ago during a three week onslaught of the absolutely worst vivid memories full of the deepest darkest pain. I cried out, "Lord please erase these memories from my mind!" I heard His voice deep within say to me, "If I were to erase them, then I would have to erase Myself." I understood what He meant. If I were to forget all the horrible things in my past, then I would have to forget every time He deliverd and rescued me. I understood that the giving of thanks is not an automaton response as the Children of God, but one born out of those who have received His great mercy in the hardest afflictions. In Psalm 66:11-12 it says, "Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins. Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place." It is His mercy bestowed upon us that gives us thankful hearts to Him, and makes us "vessels of mercy prepared afore time unto glory." "Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, His mercy endureth forever." So it is clear, that our thanksgiving is in response to the receiving of His enduring mercies all the days of our lives. The Lord give you mercy and grace this Thanksgiving, and remember Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for you, which is the greatest gift of mercy this world can ever know. In heaven, we will never cease to give Him thanks forever and ever. We will cast our crowns before Him, the One who sits upon His mercy seat. "For mercy is built up in the heavens." Starting from Judges 17, this sermon discusses how humanistic thinking has impacted modern Christianity.
Today’s encore sermon is a most powerful uncovering of humanism, which has become so widespread in the western church that it is widely accepted. Note that there is both a conservative and a liberal form of humanism, both of which result in the deifying of man and consequently withholding of the glory of God. We must recognize this grievous sin and repent. Is God a means to an end or is He an end to you? Much of the church […]

Episode 87 Ten Shekels and a Shirt Why do we come to God? Why do we serve God? Is our focus on ourselves and what we can get from God, or do we care about God, His glory, and His purpose? This is a critical question that must be answered correctly if we are going to know God’s approval in our life and labor. Today we want to share a sermon with you by Paris Reidhead entitled “Ten Shekels and a Shirt.” This message was given at a conference in the mid 1960’s. It has been said by many to be perhaps the most important sermon ever preached. It addresses the question that we have posed in a very powerful way, and I believe the truth brought out is one we all need to hear and take to heart in a very deep way. May the Lord use this to feed each one of us today with Christ himself. There’s a pervasive attitude, especially in the modern American church, that God is simply a means rather than an end. We’ve simply opted in large part to use God to get what we could from Him. So I will serve God as long as gives me what I want and then if He doesn’t give me what I desire than I’m out, or I’ll stay out of a sense of duty and become a religionist. Humanism has led to the shipwreck of many, […]
