Listen to Psalm 95:1-7 …Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him. For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains. The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too. Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. (NLT) One of the most powerful ways to create and cultivate God's peace in our homes is to make them a place of worship. While, of course, music can be a part of that experience, it's far bigger than that. Making God a normal, natural part of our everyday conversations and speaking of His life and work in our families is an important path to peace in our homes. Gratitude always changes the attitude. What would be one thing you could tell your kids today that God has done for your family that they might not know about? What if you began to share anything that you see happen that affects them, something you know came from God's hand?Let them know the Creator of the universe is blessing their lives. Teach them that worship can simply be acknowledging what He has done. Worship and gratitude are strong elements of experiencing peace in our homes.Let's pray together: “Heavenly Father, I recognize You as the Author of peace. Teach me to recognize Your work in our lives and share that with my kids. To worship all You do and who You are. As above, so below.”

Life has a way of pulling us into stress, fear, and overwhelm—but Scripture offers a better rhythm: resting in God as our refuge. While God is always present, learning to actively dwell in that presence takes intention. It’s in those moments—pausing, praying, and turning our attention back to Him—that we begin to experience His peace in a tangible way. Psalm 91 paints a powerful image of God as our shelter and covering. When we stay close to Him, we’re not just protected—we’re sustained. The weight of expectations, fear, and pressure begins to lift as we remember who He is: all-powerful, unchanging, and deeply committed to our good. Rest isn’t found in escaping life’s challenges, but in staying rooted in God through them. Highlights God’s presence is constant, but resting in it requires intentional practice Pausing in moments of stress allows God to bring peace and clarity Fear and overwhelm grow when we lose sight of God’s power True rest comes from trusting God, not controlling outcomes God invites everyone to dwell in His presence—no matter their past Staying close to God strengthens emotional and spiritual resilience Proximity to God leads to peace, protection, and renewed strength Do you want to listen ad-free? Full Transcript Below: Making God Our Safe PlaceBy: Jennifer Slattery Bible Reading:Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. - Psalm 91:1 (NIV). How can we make God our refuge, shield, shelter, and safe place? Most of us probably recognize He’s with us always. As Psalm 139 proclaims, there’s no way we can flee His presence, no place we can go where He isn’t already there. And that’s good news, because it is in His presence that we receive strength, power, protection, and peace. While He’s always with us, it can take practice to become aware of and learn to rest and find shelter in His presence. I’m learning to pause when I feel anxious or overwhelmed to close my eyes, prayerfully connect with God, and receive comfort from His embrace. The more I do this, the easier this becomes. My hope is that I’ll become so skilled at emotionally regulating myself with the Lord that I won’t do or say things I regret when under stress or in fearful circumstances. We all tend to behave uncharacteristically when we feel threatened, sad, anxious, or depressed. But we have instant and constant access to the all-powerful God who surrounds us with His loving embrace. That’s the image I receive when I consider today’s verse. I picture my heavenly Father’s strong arms around me, acting like a protective barrier. This Scripture begins with an all-inclusive invitation. “Whoever dwells,” the psalmist says, reminding us that God longs for all of us—those with respectable, church-attending backgrounds and those who’ve spent their lives running from God and into sin—to dwell, linger, and remain in His shelter. The ancient Hebrews reading Psalm 91 would’ve immediately thought of how God led them through the wilderness with a cloud by day that hovered protectively above them, making His presence tangible and visible, guiding them every step of their journey, and shielding them from the sun’s intense rays. The Lord doesn’t change. He watches over, guides, and protects us as faithfully as He did the often-rebellious Jews so long ago. I’m often comforted when I consider the unfaithful attitudes and behaviors of people to whom God remained faithful because it reminds me of His free and inexhaustible gift of grace. As Psalm 103:10 states, He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve, and I’m so grateful for that. He doesn’t hold grudges, make us earn His favor or protection, or withhold His goodness. We can trust that, in all He does, doesn’t do, and allows, He always has our best interests in mind. While He doesn’t condone or bless sin by any means, He does invite us all to come to Him, build an ever-deepening relationship with Him, and allow Him to comfort, heal, and strengthen us with His love. He is our shelter. As Psalm 27:5 states, “… He will hide me in the shelter of His sacred tent and set me high upon a rock” (NIV). Today’s verse refers to God as the Most High, Elohim in the original Hebrew. This name for God emphasizes his power, strength, and authority. He is above everyone and everything—every earthly system, over every national leader, and greater than all the forces of hell combined. His power and wisdom are limitless, His strength unconquerable, and His plans immutable. What He says happens and what He ordains always comes to pass. Those who make God their dwelling place by learning to recognize His voice, turning to Him in times of trouble and overwhelm, and regularly resting in His presence will find rest. Consider what most exhausts you. It’s usually not the event or task itself that leads to our fatigue but rather all the expectations, obligations, and emotional weight we attach to it. Our fears of failure, and what might happen should we fail, tend to feel heaviest. The more we stress and fret, the bigger that challenge in front of us seems to grow, blinding us to God’s power and promises. But when we pause to rest in His presence, He reminds us of comforting truths, such as that He crafted His plans for us long before we took our first breath. Or that He’s recorded every day of our lives in His book before a single one came to pass. He might remind us of His promise to work all things, including our mistakes, for our good and His glory. Or perhaps He’ll simply hold us in His soul-strengthening embrace. Lastly, today’s verse states that we find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This reminds me of a game my daughter and I used to play when she was young. On sunny days, we’d go outside and try to stomp on one another’s shadows. This required proximity, closeness. Similarly, resting in God’s shadow requires remaining close to Him—through prayer, Bible reading, attending church, connecting with other believers, and quietly sitting in His presence. Intersecting Life & Faith: Jesus phrased it this way: Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:4-5, emphasis mine). Here’s the good news. According to James 4:8, the moment we turn toward God, He is already moving, with open arms, toward us, drawing us deeper into His loving, protective, sheltering embrace. Examining Jesus' words in Matthew 5:6, Pastor Daniel argues that Jesus radically redefines this concept. Righteousness is not the self-focused, outward performance of religious leaders, but a deep, internal craving for God Himself. The sermon illuminates how this hunger and thirst for a relationship with God is the true path to being "filled." Listeners are ultimately challenged to make God and His ways their single greatest desire, trusting that all right actions will naturally follow.Eastland is a Place to BelongEastland Baptist Church is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Today on Bold Steps with Pastor Mark Jobe … we’re going to hear the good news for hardened hearts as we continue our study in the book of Romans. The Apostle Paul is describing in some harsh terms what it means to be under the wrath of God. He’s writing to an evil, decadent culture that has suppressed and pushed away the truth of God. But, as he will point out in the message called, The Danger of Making God in our Image, there is always Good News for the repentant. Ep. 349 - How to Make God-Honoring Decisions in Life

In Christianity, decision-making is an often mystified topic. Life is full of choices, and sin complicates things. Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar discuss how Scripture offers a much clearer way forward. Making God-honoring decisions isn't about unlocking a secret code—it's about confidence in God's sovereignty. The heart of a believer is to walk in communion with God in every part of life, not just in moments of uncertainty. When someone fully surrenders to Christ, God will carry them. Walking in the fear of the Lord and having a reverent awe of who He is brings clarity. When someone lives for God's glory, every decision filters through that lens. The wisdom of God isn't hidden, it's available in His Word. The guys emphasize how we often overcomplicate things when Scripture is always sufficient. The more time someone spends in the Bible, the more their decisions reflect God's heart. The world may pressure and mislead, but the believer stays focused on Christ. Practically, decision-making often involves affinity (what someone loves), ability (what someone is good at), and opportunity (which doors are opening). The church plays a vital role here—believers need objective counsel. There's wisdom in a multitude of counselors. The guys remind believers to avoid surrounding themselves with yes men. Everyone needs people who aren't impressed by them and will speak the truth in love.Making unpopular decisions is difficult. That's why it's important to determine convictions before the moment comes. The more someone is in Scripture and community, the easier it becomes to stand strong. Even if alone, a believer is never truly alone- God stands with them. Knowing God's Word also narrows options in a good way. Don't ask God for direction while ignoring what He's already revealed. If God seems silent, perhaps He's already spoken and now it's time for obedience. The Bible is the instruction manual. As leaders, especially husbands, decisions must reflect God's will, not self-interest. Husbands are called to lead, but not alone; wives are given to help discern God's direction. Leadership is service- first to God, then to others. The world says to follow your heart, but the Bible says the heart is deceitful. God-honoring decisions come from God-saturated minds. Those who seek wisdom must ask God for it and saturate themselves in His Word. Surrounding oneself with praying, honest believers matters. As the guys remind Christians, faith is a refusal to panic. Wait on the Lord. Trust His ways over your own. Cry out to Him because He knows more than we ever will.Send us a textThanks for listening! Leslie continues the He Is series with a powerful reminder that He is our Rock. All throughout Scripture we are reminded that He alone is meant to be our rock and fortress. And Jesus tells us that unless build our faith upon the solid unchanging rock of His Truth, our faith will come crashing down when the storms of life hit us. In this episode, Leslie offers practical ways to make God's Truth the immoveable rock beneath our feet, so that we can have an unshakeable faith and an immoveable soul no matter what trial or temptations we may face. For more resources from Leslie, visit https://setapart.org/.

Today, Stephanie invites us to discover the wisdom and peace that come from being deeply immersed in God's Word, learning to frame our lives from His perspective, and embracing the power of “dreaming small” in a world obsessed with performance, productivity, and success. She invites us to dream small, because we serve a big God. She begins by reflecting on the abundance of Christian resources addressing contemporary anxieties—productivity, body image, success—yet she points out many solutions don't truly immerse us in Scripture. She urges us to ask, “What does God say about these issues?” When we view our lives through God's eyes, many problems become smaller and less urgent. Immersion in Scripture doesn't only heal us; it often prevents problems from taking root in the first place. When we passionately pursue God, our unhealthy attachments and distractions are “pushed to the periphery.” Making God our central “affection” leads to a natural displacement of the lesser things demanding our attention. It's what Thomas Chalmers calls the “expulsion power of a new affection”, Stephanie shares her journey from aspiring to “dream big”—as culture demands—to finding relief and purpose in “dreaming small.” This isn't about stifling ambition, but about setting aside others' expectations and enjoying God's bigness by being “comfortably nestled” in our own smallness. True success, she argues, isn't found in big achievements, but in daily delighting in God. She challenges common cultural idols: ·         Anxiety: Rooted in control issues; cured by deeply trusting God's sovereignty. ·         Body Image: Healed by adopting God's view of our bodies, rather than striving for ever-changing cultural standards. ·         Productivity & Performance: Our society idolizes doing more and being at the top, but Jesus offers rest; God calls us to steward well, but not to endless striving. Scripture encourages letting go of measuring worth by output or appearance and instead valuing peace, humility, and unbroken fellowship with God. God often calls us to faithfulness in small, seemingly mundane opportunities. Life-changing moments may never arrive, or they may find us unprepared if we haven't practiced with the “little things.” God's kingdom often advances not through grand gestures, but through humble, everyday obedience. Lasting change is God's work. Desiring God and framing our priorities around Him requires deep, slow transformation—a “renewing of the mind” (Romans 12:2)—which happens through soaking in God's Word and presence. Only then are we freed from endless striving to embrace peace and joy anchored in Christ. Stephanie encourages us to let go of chasing worldly standards of success, productivity, and performance. Instead, pursue deeper intimacy with God through Scripture—allowing Him to redefine what truly matters, transform your mind, and fill your life with the peace, love, and humility that only He can give.
