"Failure is not an option" - Sandra Foti, founder, owner and Chief Gelato Operator of Piccolina Gelateria in Melbourne, Australia. When Sandra stepped away from a full time career in design, she turned her attention to the generations of tradition in the form of gelato. We go on a journey from her early memories of her father churning out fresh home batches at Christmas time, to ordering her first pozzetti and to the multiple Piccolina locations in Melbourne today. Produced by: Nick Sherry Music by: Aaron Drake
After years of working in male-dominated industries, Heide Iravani and Emily Clifford co-founded Piccolina, a lifestyle brand dedicated to empowering today's young children to become tomorrow's leaders and problem-solvers. These renegade entrepreneurs share their experiences of how becoming mothers inspired them to take the leap and launch a business that disrupts the way we think about fashion choices for our children and the messages they receive early on in life. We talk about the gender boxes we place around our children, the stereotypes and career paths that constrain them, and what we can do as parents to inspire creativity and equity in the next generation.
Hosted by David and Nycci Nellis. On today’s show: • Jill Erber, Cheesetique in Del Ray and Shirlington, on how her business is handling the pandemic; • Chap Gage from Schmaltz Bros. What’s schmaltz? We’re talkin’ golden, rendered chicken fat and, in the case of the Schmaltz Brothers, we’re talkin’ a food truck offering a full kosher menu; • You remember that old saying that “if life gives you lemons …?” Well, Amy Brandwein, chef/owner of D.C.’s Centrolina and Piccolina, across from each other at the City Center, is nothing short of a genius for turning that lemon of a COVID shutdown into retail gold. The four-time James Beard Award-winning chef has launched local and national shipping from both Centrolina’s Market and Piccolina (Esquire’s Best New Restaurant List 2020), delivering handmade pasta and sauces, holiday cookies and more, straight to your home this holiday season; • Foxtrot is a company redefining what a corner store and cafe? can be. Foxtrot recently announced the launch of the Up and Comers Small Makers Awards, an initiative designed to find the next great brands in food, beverage, wellness, self-care and more. D.C.’s own Chef Erik Bruner-Yang is one of the judges.

Episode 108 - How to build a design-focused food brand with soul and purpose with Sandra Foti from Piccolina Gelateria Piccolina is a Gelato House residing in the Melbourne suburbs of Collingwood, Hawthorn St Kilda and is just over 5 years old. The Founder and today's guest Sandra Foti practised many of the gelato recipes when she started making it with her dad about 15 years ago. The result is gelato that is entirely natural, made from fresh cream, milk, sugar and a selection of raw ingredients. Everything at Piccolina is made from scratch using fresh, high-quality ingredients right down to their nut-butters, caramels, sauce and jams.....their gelato is even gluten and gelatin-free. Even of recent times they have done collaborations with Scott Pickett’s Longrain venues and are also growing their footprint in Melbourne in the coming months, so I hope you very much enjoy this podcast with today's guest Sandra Foti. After losing her father during the pandemic, Sandra Foti (Piccolina Gelateria) drew inspiration from his work ethic, and belief that whenever you are confronted with adversity and everyone else is scared, that is the time to be brave. It’s not only helped her overcome her challenges, but allowed her to be there for her team too.

We are beginning Lush Life Season 3 with a guest who somehow manages to be a surgeon and a nurse all at the same time. To be a great surgeon you need absolute precision and knowledge of your craft and to be a great nurse you need compassion, warmth and patience. Mia Johansson combined these attributes in a mixing glass and out came Bar Swift. Determining who wants or needs to be hugged and/or a martini is an art and Mia has mastered it. She has been Imbibe’s Personality of the Year Award, trained at Hix and Milk & Honey, and of course co-owner of Bar Swift in Soho - which by the way is one of the fifty best bars in the world, according to drinks international magazine and anyone else who’s ever had their sgroppino. If you want to know what Mia’s favorite bars are in Stockholm, you’ll have to wait until the not-so bitter end. Our Cocktail of the Week is the Piccolina - just like surgeons and nurses work together - here port and sherry are collaborating to make an assume cocktail. Ingredients 60ml dry white port 30ml amontillado sherry 15ml fig liqueur 3 dashes Angostura Green Olive Method Stir it all together over ice in any mixing glass Strain into martini glass.
