Hwæt a Movie is back! This time we dive deep into the uncanny valley epic Beowulf from 2007. Released at the height of Robert Zemeckis's motion-capture mania, this version of our favorite Old English classic promised to bring the poem to life like never before. It was slated to be an event like no other, at least for John and Andy. In this star-studded and CG-saturated film, Ray Winstone voices a Beowulf who looks suspiciously like an action figure and swaggers like he just killed nine nicors. He's accompanied by the ageless Wiglaf, played by Brendan Gleeson. The great Anthony Hopkins plays a jovial but somewhat mad King Hrothgar, Robin Wright plays the deeply troubled Queen Wealhtheow, and John Malkovich does his best John Malkovich as Unferth. But if we're honest, this is the Grendel family's movie from start to finish. Crispin Glover turns in a unforgettable performance as a Grendel who swells with anger and shrinks with vulnerability. Grendel's mother is a gold-dipped, shape-shifting femme fatale with stiletto feet. She's also very much Angelina Jolie. And then there's Grendel's little half-brother dragon. That's right, the dragon is part of the family! Is this adaptation a clever deconstruction of heroism and myth-making? Or just an excuse to get Beowulf naked on an animated dragon? Zemeckis, Gaiman, and Avary take some bold liberties with the source material in this one, and we're here to guide you through it all from the perspective of two curmudgeonly middle-aged medievalists. As always, this episode of Hwæt a Movie includes a thorough summary and discussion of the film, a brief Q&A, and our final ratings: how well the film handles Beowulf, Grendel, and Grendel's mother, plus our ever-important scores for faithfulness to the source and overall entertainment value. After skipping last year, Party Favorz brings back the HW series — and this one hits hard. Featuring the latest Future House, Tech House, Techno, Bass House, and NuDisco tracks tearing up dancefloors right now, HW25 isn't just another Halloween mix — it's a full-on experience. We've always resisted overloading our Halloween sets with gimmicky effects, but this year we decided to throw the rulebook out the window. While we didn't saturate the mix with cheesy sound effects that distract from the music, we did craft a sinister custom intro that slides straight into the Bingo Players' mashup of “Rattle” and the “Halloween” movie theme. From there, it's a dark, pulsating ride through modern reworks of classic horror themes and songs tied to the ghoulish festivities that define the season — all perfectly blended to keep the music front and center where it belongs. This set leans into the darker, heavier edge of the night — because let's face it, Halloween calls for a little menace. But it's not all shadows and chills. We threw in some brighter, high-energy moments too, like a bootleg remix of Lady Gaga's “The Dead Dance,” which stays true to the original while dialing up the heat. Other standouts include: SIDEPIECE's fresh take on the millennial classic “Cry for You” by September. “Diamonds, Baby” by DancingFaraz, a hidden gem flying under just about everyone's radar. “Yes Baby” by Madison Beer, because no Party Favorz mix is complete without a pop-driven punch. “My Gusta” by Eli Brown & GreeLy, another underrated cut that deserves serious club play. Don Diablo's shimmering rework of Fleetwood Mac's “Little Lies,” which is doing well on dance radio but criminally underappreciated elsewhere. And the hauntingly beautiful “Ishq Hai (This Is Love)” by Anurag Saikia, Armin van Buuren & Craig David, blending East-meets-West rhythms that should be charting — but inexplicably aren't. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0onVF7Odcdc Then there's the mysterious one: “Deep End” by BKAYE — a track that showed up in my promos with no info, no sender, and no clue where it came from. After scouring my Gmail, Beatport, and ZipDJ accounts, I finally traced a hint of it back to a SoundCloud promo email — long since deleted from their platform. When I reached out to BKAYE, he confirmed it was his track but admitted he didn't send it. Still, he gave me his blessing to use it. The vocalist remains a mystery, but one thing's for sure: this track is absolute fire. I've had it on repeat in my car and headphones for weeks. Do yourself a favor — follow BKAYE on Spotify and Apple Music. When “Deep End” officially drops, it should go straight to your playlists. To round out the set, we threw in several bootlegs and mashups to keep things unpredictable. A particular favorite is the BARTS remix of “Which One” by Drake and Central Cee. It's addictive — the kind of track that burrows into your brain and refuses to leave. She keeps on kicking with Matt, trying prove her innocence through his missed calls from "Slade Gretchen" and "My Spicy Asian", a very tricky thing to riff on without being problematic, but Michele tries her best.Katiebot does some of her best work, upgrading to being emotional and acting like a victim, and there's nothing Bravo fans love more- she will survive this!But her co-workers throw a Beach Picnic Audition for her spot on the cast before her casket is even closed- Auditioning flops like Chanel, Gina's ex-husband's new wife, the lovely former HW and "too normal for TV" Jo DeLaRosa, and Shannon's daughter Sophia.No one impresses us but the current cast, who tell stories of their first heartbreak so funny and on brand that we can't help but be excited about the rest of the season-Plus the new trailer looks popping, Gretchen continuing a Tamra takedown over things that happened 15 years ago (but seems to make Tamra so mad that her "THAT'S MY OPINION" shriek comes out, so we are in!)

Dustin Perry of Kingfisher Metals joined Trevor this week after the company published its first drill result out of this campaign on the HWY 37 Project in the Golden Triangle. HW-25-004 has returned one of the highest and longest grade copper-gold intercepts ever completed at the Williams porphyry copper-gold deposit. The drillhole intercepted 557.8 meters 1 of 0.29% copper, 0.30 g/t gold, and 1.6 g/t silver (0.64% CuEq) .

Trey Wasser, CEO and Director of Dryden Gold Corp (TSX.V: DRY) (OTCQB: DRYGF) (FSE: X7W), joins me for an exploration update outlining some of the key takeaways and proper context from the recently released assay results from this year's exploration program at multiple Gold Rock Camp targets, within their Dryden Gold District in Northwestern Ontario.    On July 24, 2025 the Company reported multiple high-grade gold results and additional visible gold ("VG") intercepts from its ongoing drill program on the Elora Gold System at the Gold Rock Camp. These results are part of the Company's fully funded 15,000-meter drill campaign, which is focused on expanding the Elora Gold System along strike and at depth. The drill campaign to date has focused on the Gold Rock Target Area including the Jubilee Zone, Jubilee Hanging Wall, Pearl Zone and Laurentian Mine Area. The discovery of multiple stacked gold bearing structures now appear to run for a kilometer of strike from Jubilee to Laurentian. Drilling at the Elora gold System is also showing impressive widths of near surface lower grade mineralization.   Trey points out that much of the drilling is actually more constructive than the market realizes for building out continuity of near-surface mineralization that is above 1 g/t gold as a baseline for an open-pit development scenario. Then the more narrow but high-grade intercepts will raise the average overall grade profile of the deposit that is coming into picture along 1km of strike along the Elora Gold System.   Highlights:   Drill Hole DGR-25-011 intercepted 5.36 g/t gold over 5.00 meters including 12.70g/t gold over 1.90 meters at Jubilee HW Drill Hole DGR-25-018 intercepted visible gold at 238 meters true depth in the HW at Jubilee HW Drill Hole DGR-25-012 intercepted 15.30 g/t gold over 1.45 meters near surface at Pearl Drill Hole DGR-25-008 intercepted 1.18 g/t gold over 15.80 meters near surface at Pearl Drill Hole DGR-25-005 intercepted 2.20 g/t gold over 5.90 meters including 9.87 g/t over 0.90 meters defining a second high-grade gold structure at Pearl   We review that there is a current financing underway, and lots of drill core piling up at site, at the assay lab, and results will be able to be released after the financing is set to close on August 12th.   The drills have moved on to Sherridon for first pass drilling is following up on targets from the detailed mapping from 2024, and so that newsflow will be coming in a couple of months.   The drills will then be moved back to Elora Gold System to drill more at Laurentian, Pearl, Jubilee,  and importantly, will also test the areas in between those 3 initial targets.     If you have any questions for Trey regarding Dryden Gold, then please email me at Shad@kereport.com.   In full disclosure, Shad is a shareholder of Dryden Gold at the time of this recording.   Click here to follow the latest news from Dryden Gold

Spraying for powdery mildew can be ~25% of the cost of farming a vineyard and be one of the key elements of a grower's carbon footprint. Sarah Placella, Founder and CEO of Root Applied Sciences, has taken her deep research in microbes and created a data-driven solution to monitor the air for mildew and spray only when needed. Nicole Brown '98 is the president of TriStar Pictures, the famed Sony Pictures division responsible for producing many of the most influential films in movie history. In this episode, Nicole tells her story—from growing up in Culver City and attending public and private schools, before discovering Harvard-Westlake through the Independent School Alliance. It was at HW where Nicole met the late great performing arts teacher Ted Walch, who encouraged Nicole (a budding actor) to consider working “on” student productions—rather than "in" them. The message stuck, leading Nicole to study history and film at Columbia University, pursue a life-changing internship with Marc Platt and executive role at Good Universe, and then finally—seize the opportunity to lead TriStar in 2020. Nicole references Ted Walch of Harvard-Westlake, as well as film producer Marc Platt and Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman, as profound influences and mentors.

Hwæt a Movie returns with Beowulf: Prince of the Geats! Given how hard this one is to find, we'd be surprised if any of you have seen it. Released in March 2007, shortly after SYFY's Grendel and ahead of Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf, this Scott Wegener-directed indie film dives into the epic tale with a unique take on the hero and his legendary battles. And while the film's limited budget and production constraints might be apparent, its dedication to the original text shines through. Making the film more charming and admirable is the fact that the production team and actors all worked for free on this passion project. All proceeds from the sale of the DVDs for Beowulf: Prince of the Geats went to aid both the American and Norwegian Cancer Societies. Get a sense of the film by watching the trailer here. The film stars both Jayshan Jackson and Damon Lynch III as the younger and older Beowulf. Wegener's decision to depict Beowulf as the son of an adventuring African fisherman offers some interesting possibilities and an approach to the character that we haven't seen yet. It's also one of the few film adaptations to follow Beowulf home to Geatland after his time in Denmark. As always, our episode includes an exhaustive summary of the film, a Q&A discussion, and our final ratings. How do these versions of Beowulf, Grendel, and Grendel's Mother stack up against those we've seen before? And how does this quirky, low-budget film score on its fidelity to the source material and its overall entertainment value? Hwæt a Movie returns with the Beowulf film you didn't know you needed to see: SYFY's Grendel. Released at the start of 2007, ahead of Beowulf: Prince of the Geats and Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf, Grendel rides the wave of Beowulf-mania that was sweeping nation back then. Or perhaps it started the craze? And while you might think based on the title that this film picks up where Beowulf and Grendel left off with a more nuanced and sympathetic approach to this epic medieval monster, you'd be wrong. Grendel gives us the more violent and aggressive side of this famous shadow-walker. Chris Bruno stars as Beowulf in this Nick Lyon directed film adaptation of our favorite Old English poem. As you'll see, no one can spin a tale of exposition or spin round and round in combat this Beowulf. With Ben Cross as King Hrothgar and Marina Sirtis as his queen, Onela—wait, Queen Onela? If you know your Beowulf, or your Swedish history, then you may have spotted a problem here. But hey, the film also features a crossbow that shoots magic exploding arrows. Realism and textual fidelity isn't what makes this movie fun! Each episode of Hwaet a Movie includes an exhaustive summary and discussion of the film, a brief Q&A, and then our final ratings categories for the film's take on Beowulf, Grendel, and Grendel's mother.
