History was made in the National Hockey League (NHL) Friday night in Buffalo, N.Y. The Toronto Maple Leafs had the first overall pick of the NHL draft and they selected Gavin McKenna (Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin First Nation), only the second Indigenous player to ever be drafted at the top spot. Dale McCourt (Frog Lake First Nations) was taken number one by the Detroit Red Wings in 1977. More from Dan Karpenchuk in Toronto. Although the draft was in Buffalo, fans in Toronto watching on the big screen at the Scotia Bank Arena went wild after the announcement that their team was choosing McKenna, born in Whitehorse, Yukon. That kind of enthusiasm from the crowd has largely been missing in Toronto, as the team suffered one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history: ending up in 28th place and missing the playoffs. The next day, McKenna, the star rookie, got to meet the Toronto media for the first time where he was asked about his immediate plans. “Yeah, I'm going to the Jays game tonight. I've never been to a baseball game, so obviously a Blue Jays fan, so I'm looking forward to that and yeah I dunno know, I think just kind of hanging out, chillin' out. I think Dev Camp starts out pretty quick so I gotta make sure I'm ready for that. Yeah, just hanging out.” McKenna has been on the radar of NHL scouts since he was fourteen years old. When he jumped to the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Medicine Hat Tigers, over two seasons he racked up 97 and 129 points consecutively. At the end of the 2024-25 season, he ended up winning rookie of the year, WHL player of the year, the Canadian Hockey League David Branch Player of the Year, and an Under 18 world championship gold medal. He then committed to playing for Penn State in NCAA hockey during his draft season. Analysts say he has a high-end hockey IQ with an ability to manipulate defenders and is often compared to such greats as Artemi Panarin and Patrick Kane. Fans and owners in Toronto are hoping that with the McKenna one of the longest Stanley Cup droughts in franchise history could soon be over. Timinah Ellenwood-Parrish, left; his aunt Andria Scott, Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) Education Department administrative assistant; and Desiree Coyote, CTUIR Family Violence Services (FVS) coordinator, walk during an MMIP Week event on May 6, 2024, around the Nixyáawii Governance Center campus in Pendleton, Oreg. (Courtesy CTUIR / Facebook) The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) is holding a special summit next week organized by its Family Violence Services (FVS) program. Desiree Coyote is the FVS program manager. She says she is particularly excited for this biennial event, given the quality of speakers and topics. “I am really happy to be able to get Marisa Cummings to attend, she’s done a lot of federal work in regards to Violence Against Women Act, and she’s got many years when it comes to jurisdictional issues and collaboration.” Another session led by Jordan Battle and Arianna Sessoms addresses domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking in the workplace. “There isn’t a lot of meaningful policies or practices around addressing those in the workplace. So I’m excited that, Jordan and Arianna is going to be here to talk about how the federal government is ensuring that there’s technical assistance and training for us at the Umatilla Indian reservation, but for other agencies who receive state and federal funding.” Coyote says it is important to address these pervasive issues in Indian Country, to keep them in the forefront for vulnerable people. “When it comes to domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, for the U.S. overall, the overrepresentation of population definitely lies with communities of color and tribal nations specifically. Research actually so shows that the Indigenous community on this land, are five times more to have lived through these types of experiences, the intimate partner violence and sexual assault.” The 2026 Tribal State and Federal Summit titled Beyond Policy: Shaping Behavior and Culture will be held July 7-9 at the Wildhorse Resort and Casino in Pendleton, Oreg. Dustin Perry, Founder and CEO of Kingfisher Metals Corp. (TSXV:KFR) (OTCQB:KGFMF) (FSE:970), joins me to highlight the commencement of their fully-funded 15,000 metre drill program; in a three-pronged approach to various copper-gold targets in the Hank-Mary district of the Hwy 37 Project, in the Golden Triangle, British Columbia. 2026 Drill Program Update The first diamond drill has re-entered the 2025 Hank Porphyry discovery hole (HW-25-011) with the goal of extending mineralization beyond the previously reported intercept of 425 m of 0.15% Cu, 0.21 g/t Au, and 2.2 g/t Ag (0.40% CuEq).1,2,3 The original intercept bottoms in increasing Cu grades at 959 m depth where potassic alteration is identified and becoming more prevalent. The second drill will collar in the Hank Porphyry Target area, stepping out over 300 metres, and complementing the first drill. The 3rd drill is set to arrive to site in early July and drill pads are being planned and set up. 2026 Field Program Underway Reconnaissance prospecting and regional stream sediment sampling are also scheduled to begin shortly across the HWY 37 Project, with geological mapping and soil sampling scheduled to begin during the second week of July. Ground IP geophysics and the airborne Mobile Magnetotelluric (MMT) and magnetic surveys remain on track to commence around mid-July. Hank Porphyry Cu-Au Discovery – Expansion and Delineation The Hank porphyry Cu-Au discovery represents a well-defined, large-scale copper-gold target supported by multiple converging lines of geological and geophysical evidence: Kilometre-scale geophysical anomalies: IP geophysics, magnetics, and magnetotellurics (MMT) anomalies all converging on the same broad target. Compelling emplacement timing: Porphyry mineralization at Hank, Williams & Mary (~190–186 Ma) overlaps in time with the nearby Mitchell deposit (~196–189 Ma)⁴ the largest undeveloped Cu-Au deposit in Canada. Hank Au Targets – Bulk Tonnage Gold Targets At-surface bulk-tonnage gold targets proximal to the Hank Porphyry Target offer significant opportunities for expansion with untested wide-spaced gaps (up to 500 m) between historical drill holes despite evidence of strong gold endowment in historical drilling. Historical results include: 55.8 m of 1.38 g/t Au (DDH84-4) 42.0 m of 2.52 g/t Au (DDH85-32) 63.0 m of 1.86 g/t Au (DDH85-45) Several historical holes terminate in mineralization including DDH88-16 with 74 m of 0.43 g/t Au including 0.92 g/t in the last assay. Structural High-Grade Au Targets Updated LiDAR, geological interpretation, and 3D modelling are being used to identify higher-grade structural gold zones. Previous workers explored with a single NW-SE azimuth to drill holes, this created a strong bias on ore geometry. New interpretations indicate multiple and complex structural patterns would have been poorly tested by previous holes. Revised interpretations will test projections of identified structures and ore shoot concepts as well. New Discovery Drilling – Turquoise, Rainbow, & Regional Porphyry Targets Beyond the Hank Porphyry Target, the Company will conduct first-pass discovery drilling at the Turquoise and Rainbow targets, along with additional regional prospects. This initiative is focused on identifying large-tonnage porphyry systems across the full breadth of the Company's multi-district-scale land package — providing multiple opportunities for new discovery. Morgan Witham, a stellar product of the Harris Williams “coaching tree,” stops by Middle Market Musings – akin to starting your career with the New York Yankees and ending up in the dugout with Ricky Vaughn and Willie Mays Hayes. Morgan recently launched Ficus Advisors, a new firm that helps private equity clients guide management teams dealing with first-time institutional capital, post-deal integration issues, and PE growth imperatives. Before that, Morgan takes us on a tour of showpiece Southern cities – childhood in Lexington, college in Nashville, then a first job in Richmond at Harris Williams, the market-leading investment bank. She rose through deal execution and business development roles to become the youngest member of HW's executive team as Director of Strategy. The episode begins and ends with Morgan reflecting on a life-changing event – the fire that destroyed her family's home earlier this year, and what the experience has taught her about leadership, resilience and human kindness.

Dustin Perry, Founder and CEO of Kingfisher Metals Corp. (TSXV:KFR) (OTCQB:KGFMF) (FSE:970), joins us to outline the upcoming 15,000 Metres drill program in a three-pronged approach to various copper-gold targets in the Hank-Mary district of the Hwy 37 Project, in the Golden Triangle, British Columbia. Diamond Drilling – 15,000 Metres (Three-Pronged Approach) The 2026 drilling program is fully-funded and will be supported by three diamond drills, targeting three spatially distinct regions at the Hank-Mary District: Hank Porphyry Cu-Au Discovery – Expansion and Delineation The Hank porphyry Cu-Au discovery represents a well-defined, large-scale copper-gold target supported by multiple converging lines of geological and geophysical evidence: Discovery hole HW-25-011: 425 m at 0.15% Cu, 0.21 g/t Au and 2.2 g/t Ag (0.40% CuEq)¹,² is a broad and high-quality intercept affirming system scale despite intersecting flanking alteration. Kilometre-scale geophysical anomalies: IP geophysics, magnetics, and magnetotellurics (MMT) anomalies all converging on the same broad target³. Compelling emplacement timing: Porphyry mineralization at Hank, Williams & Mary (~190–186 Ma) overlaps in time with the nearby Mitchell deposit (~196–189 Ma)⁴ the largest undeveloped Cu-Au deposit in Canada. Historical intercepts demonstrate the high-grade and structural-hosted potential of the system: 0.8 m of 133.3 g/t Au and 263.0 g/t Ag (HNK-17-008) 24.8 m of 5.6 g/t Au and 45.9 g/t Ag (HNK-17-009) 20.0 m of 11.63 g/t Au and 13.8 g/t Ag (HNK-18-010) New Discovery Drilling – Turquoise, Rainbow, & Regional Porphyry Targets Beyond the Hank Porphyry Target, the Company will conduct first-pass discovery drilling at the Turquoise and Rainbow targets, along with additional regional prospects. Years ago discrimination against people with disabilities often started right at birth. When I was born, a doctor came in to my mom and explained to her my diagnosis in this way, your son is a midget like you see in the circus. So in that one sentence, that he said to my mother he's basically laid out my entire future. Okay, just in one second, Lydia. Boss is busy firing me because I make him uncomfortable,好吧,就在一会儿,莉迪亚。 But luckily times have changed. Woodburn who was diagnosed with dwarfism went on to have a successful acting career, appearing in more than 30 films and making more than 150 television appearances, including the popular TV series Seinfeld. It's little people. You got that. His success reflects the impact of the ADA. The ADA stands for the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the important thing that we would really want everyone to know, is that it's a civil rights law.ADA全称是Americans with Disabilities Act,最重要的是我们希望每个人都知道这是一部民权法案。Individuals with disabilities were not part of that protection, and it became evident that they were not being included in ways that other previously marginalized groups were. Signed into law by president George HW Bush in 1990, the ADA provided protection against discrimination to millions of Americans in school, on the job, and in all public and private places.《美国残疾人法案》于1990年由乔治·H·W·布什总统签署生效,该法案为数百万美国人在学校、职场以及所有公共和私人场所提供了免受歧视的保护。By doing so, it improved access and quality of life for millions. I think one of the most important things that we look at with the Americans with Disabilities Act is its opportunity to level the playing field. But in the area of employment for people with disabilities, Goss acknowledges that the number remains low. In 2019, less than 20 percent of disabled adults had jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It's one reason why more advocacy is needed, says Woodburn. And part of my advocacy with my own industry has been to change the landscape of employment of actors with disability, for example, because the belief system is that for kids, if you can't see it you can't be it. But many of the law's provisions have improved lives, and even benefited those without disabilities. Ramps and curb cuts designed to accommodate wheelchairs, for example, help others. After those were put in place, people started to see more and more mothers walking their babies in the strollers and delivery persons using those. And text messaging was born out of technology for the hearing impaired. We owe that to the deaf community and their need to have that access. As the ADA celebrates 30 years of advancing the lives of millions of Americans, Woodburn says there's still plenty of room for improvement. We have to be included every step of the way and we're just not right now. So my hope is that anyone that has diversity or inclusion discussion, either as an advocate or as a corporate leader, that they always include disability, despite how uncomfortable it might make them feel.

Dan Alig is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Harvard-Westlake, having arrived in 2024 after serving as CIO for more than a decade at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In this episode, Dan speaks to how Harvard-Westlake and other schools are confronting the emergence of AI—from keeping up with daily breakthroughs in AI capability, to how teachers are adjusting to new methods of instruction and assessment, to how some adolescents are using AI for companionship. Dan also speaks to how schools like Wharton and Harvard-Westlake are uniquely suited to take leadership in this space. One big example—thanks to Dan's leadership, last year Harvard-Westlake partnered with OpenAI to became the first independent school in the world to create an individual license for ChatGPT. This has enabled Dan and his team to begin to determine how HW enters the AI space skillfully and thoughtfully, with the goal of enhancing student learning with humans and humanity at the center. Dan references his parents, as well as Deirdre Woods at Wharton, as profound influences on his life and career.

Happy New Year! EZ off till Monday,1/5/26. Enjoy two Patreon encore "Who Are These Free Beers?" shows.Sign up at Patreon.com/ericzane to get access to tons more!Show Notes from ep 12: Taylor Swift Song or Bath & Body Works: A Breakdown*Ben choose to dive into a very dark place...he reviewed our heroes playing a hot new game called, "Taylor Swift Song or Bath & Body Works." The idea is that Maitland will give you a clue...and the gang has to guess whether it's a Taylor Swift song or a product from Bath & Body Works! Sound good? Of course not! Away we go!*After processing that garbage, EZ got down to business with a new compilation of the weirdo, shriek-filled noises Kelly Cheese has made recently on the show. *EZ also covered another set of words that The Burn King said that made zero sense.*Next, it was time to unpack HW story of smashing into his own garage. As usual, HW took the long way around, but hey, you can never have too much backstory. *Not to be out "boring storied," we went back to Free Beer for some long-winded basketball minutiae. Nothing like the history of the NBA leading up to a 30 second clip with very little payoff! But who cares!!! "The ratings have never been higher!" Show Notes from ep 13: Clown Show*EZ shared some bad news with Ben Glaze.*Ben drops a clip where EZ has to figure out what one of the crew is actually saying.*We came to the conclusion that the shows we reviewed were heavily saturated with lots of talk about food...specifically, the difference between hot dogs and sausage.*The crew segues from talking about sausage v hot dogs to talking about clothing...without context.*EZ is amazed with how the show is popular with some of the most mundane subject matter ever discussed on the radio.*The "Around the Room" segment then features another Free Beer attempt at making his ex wife jealous by spending significant time wishing new Mrs. Free Beer "happy birthday."*Free Beer tough talks sushi.*The parade of food talk continues as the crew breaks down quiche.*EZ has an idea to keep Kelly from screeching so much.*The gang reviewed an old instructional video for aspiring clowns. It was full of "do's and don'ts" for clowns who want to perform at old-folks homes. FB throws out some jokes, that are actually not the worst...but he gets nothing from his quiet co workers.*After EZ and Ben review the clown video segment, they took a hard look at one of the most pointless things that FBHW have ever done..."Maitland's Kohls Game." This game is a huge pile of shit. Why Gregg and Maitland insist on giving the boring backstory of this debacle is beyond me, or anyone who hears it. To top it all off, the game is a carbon copy of all they're other games...Just yell shit out and laugh hysterically. Happy New Year! EZ off till Monday,1/5/26. Enjoy two Patreon encore "Who Are These Free Beers?" shows.Show Notes from ep 10: Thin Skin*Dad Free Beer was away for court or something else, so the crew had to soldier on without "The Burn King", and boy did they! Ben Glaze takes a deep dive on the on-air brainstorming/ workshop that the crew had, to determine weirdo rules for their trivia game that everyone hates. *What the gang settled on showed some real proof about "how they've grown."*It wouldn't be an episode of "WATFB?" if we didn't get assurance that Greg "was just kidding."*HW and FB butted heads over something silly. It seems the "3 on 1" formula with some mild ball- busting was all Greg could handle, and he raged out on HW.Show Notes from ep 11: Hair Today, Gone TomorrowIn this show:*EZ and Ben unpacked Free Beer's new hair style.*Ben parked on a cool segment that the crew did that had FB asking the gang questions like: "How often do you make your bed?" and "How often do you take a shower" and "How often do you brush your teeth?" Also, there's a plot twist that Ben reveals at the end of this hot topic.*The gang "goes to Funco Town" with a cute story about Free Beer's kid liking Funco Pops. Meanwhile, Kelly goes to "Crispy R Town."*Once again, Free Beer keeps it between the lines by letting the world know that, "he's just kidding."*The multi-talented Maitland doses us with a killer line that leaves the room gasping for air with laughter.*Kelly shocks Steve, who's disgusted with her potty-talk. Interestingly, Kelly's line was actually pretty damn funny! Props!*EZ featured a classic FBHW "joke tag" moment. We explain what "joke tagging" is and you'll see a great example of it in this chuckle-war with the subject being "treats at my local Ace Hardware."*We've added a couple more entries to our FB, "I'm just kidding" montage. Our Sponsors:* Check out Secret Nature and use my code ZANE for a great deal: https://secretnature.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-eric-zane-show-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

It led to Kelly Cheese looking even dumber than normal, but it was interesting...that is until Free Beer started doing more Q and A about keychains.*Hot Wings gets a HUGE laugh response with a throwaway joke.*Hot on the heels of last episode's FB temper-tantrum when he was interrupted, EZ features a clip of FB badly interrupting Steve.*The Steve Cropper Incident*Another "Free Beer Soap Box" moment. Our Sponsors:* Check out Secret Nature and use my code ZANE for a great deal: https://secretnature.com* Check out Uncommon Goods: https://uncommongoods.com/zaneSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-eric-zane-show-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

In this episode of Unscriptify, we sit down with acclaimed historian and author H. W. Brands for a candid conversation about the dilemmas that define U.S. presidents — from Lincoln's moral tightrope to Nixon's downfall, and the ongoing debates surrounding modern figures like Donald Trump. We explore how history judges leaders, why controversy often accompanies power, and what it truly means to leave a lasting legacy in American politics. It's unscripted, insightful, and as always, a little provocative — exactly what Unscriptify does best.

Hwæt a Movie is back! This time we dive deep into the uncanny valley epic Beowulf from 2007. Released at the height of Robert Zemeckis's motion-capture mania, this version of our favorite Old English classic promised to bring the poem to life like never before. It was slated to be an event like no other, at least for John and Andy. In this star-studded and CG-saturated film, Ray Winstone voices a Beowulf who looks suspiciously like an action figure and swaggers like he just killed nine nicors. He's accompanied by the ageless Wiglaf, played by Brendan Gleeson. The great Anthony Hopkins plays a jovial but somewhat mad King Hrothgar, Robin Wright plays the deeply troubled Queen Wealhtheow, and John Malkovich does his best John Malkovich as Unferth. But if we're honest, this is the Grendel family's movie from start to finish. Crispin Glover turns in a unforgettable performance as a Grendel who swells with anger and shrinks with vulnerability. Grendel's mother is a gold-dipped, shape-shifting femme fatale with stiletto feet. She's also very much Angelina Jolie. And then there's Grendel's little half-brother dragon. That's right, the dragon is part of the family! Is this adaptation a clever deconstruction of heroism and myth-making? Or just an excuse to get Beowulf naked on an animated dragon? Zemeckis, Gaiman, and Avary take some bold liberties with the source material in this one, and we're here to guide you through it all from the perspective of two curmudgeonly middle-aged medievalists. As always, this episode of Hwæt a Movie includes a thorough summary and discussion of the film, a brief Q&A, and our final ratings: how well the film handles Beowulf, Grendel, and Grendel's mother, plus our ever-important scores for faithfulness to the source and overall entertainment value. Beowulf (2007) was a wild ride to discuss, and we hope you enjoy it half as much as Beowulf enjoys shouting his own name. Or at least as much as Zemeckis likes cleverly blocking Beowulf's bare bits from view with conveniently placed objects. Once you've listened, let us know your thoughts. Is this the definitive Beowulf for the 21st century? Or just a fever dream in a damp cave? And do you forgive us for being grumpy when it comes to Beowulf movies? The 19th season of the original HW franchise kicks off by refreshing our memories of multiple issues from last season, too many of which involve Katie and her Bravo "blogger" besties. Gina and Travis moved their families back in together, Shannon paid her slimy ex and feels like a different person, Jen and Ryan are in wedding preparation mode, Tamra is in therapy, Emily is dealing with family and legal issues, Katie shops for a $100k car but won't show DM receipts to clear her name, and the Dubrows are listing the mansion they just bragged about buying last season. Gretchen and Slade pop up in the previews so we'll enjoy their antics next week. All opinions are personal and not representative of any outside company, person, or agenda. Information shared is sourced via published articles, legal documents, press releases, government websites, public websites, books, public videos, news reports, and/or direct quotes and statements, and all may be paraphrased for brevity and presented in layman's terms.Wanna support this independent pod?
