Your co-hosts Tom (aka Mr. Tee) of A Couple of Putts, Pat of The Putting Penguin and fellow American Mini Golf Alliance organizer, Aaron Kaminski of O-Street, hosted a AMA player's meeting over Zoom. The quality of the recording turned out well and we wanted to make it available on the Puttcast to our listeners who are interested in developments in competitive mini golf in the US. We had a Q & A section and at the top of the episode, Tom explains what we included from that session. There were a lot of specific questions about the details of an upcoming tournament in January that didn't feel as relevant to a larger audience as the other some of the other broader questions about the AMA. Mike Reaver of Adlerhorst K9 has been involved in police dogs for most of his life. The son of Dave Reaver, founder of Adlerhorst K9 and the father of "police dogs." Mike and I finally got a chance to sit down and talk about police dogs, buying, training and selling them and most importantly the lives they save. Adlerhorst has placed thousands of police dogs, military k9 and personal protection dogs over the last 50+ years. We discuss the critical topic of CA Assembly Bill AB 742 - the bill that aims at eliminating police dogs as we know them. This is dangerous for police officers and deadly for citizens that are protected by these dogs every single day. This chat is one of the longest podcasts I've done and I think you'll agree that it could have gone on for a lot longer. Mike is a man of great character, a guy who loves dogs and speaks from his heart and soul. California Assembly Bill CA AB740 is being presented by California Assemblyman Corey Jackson. This bill aims at eliminating the use of police canines (k9s) in many situations including apprehending potentially dangerous suspects. He claims the bill will help right the wrongs of the past - a "carryover from a dark past." He uses inciteful language such as: "The use of police canines has inflicted brutal violence and lifelong trauma on Black Americans and communities of color," and more. This type of language will create knee-jerk reactions among policymakers and place many people, especially those in under-served communities in great danger. We've seen the problems things like defunding the police does to communities and I hope this video will open people's eyes to the true benefit of police canines. Michael Goosby is a decorated LAPD police officer, he served as chief K9 trainer for the LAPD and has been a police officer for over 30 years! I can't imagine a person better qualified to talk on this topic than him. This chat will give you great insight from a man of the highest character, a police k9 expert, and a man of color who cares about people. I hope that Assemblyman Jackson will watch this video and rethink his position or at least sit down with someone like Michael to educate himself on this topic. I'm assuming he didn't before proposing / writing this bill. Please contact Assemblyman Jackson here to voice your concern: 1021 O Street, Suite 6120, P.O. There are many people who have been prominent in our history yet have been hidden from textbooks, from conversations, and from praise and appropriate adulation. Tayo's guest today, H.H. Leonards, got to know one of these people, Rosa Parks, in the latter years of her life and has now written a book shedding light on this amazing woman. H.H. opens the episode by telling us how Mrs. Parks came to live with her in The Mansion on O Street after being assaulted in her home in Detroit and how H.H's vision for the mansion made it the perfect place for Mrs. Parks to recover. She also explains that she didn't know then who Mrs. Parks was (and wouldn't for three years) because of a lack of education about civil rights and how she's now driven to make sure people get to know Mrs. Parks' heart and soul.Next, Tayo asks H.H. what Mrs. Parks might have thought about the divisions we see in society today. H.H. shares Mrs. Parks' prescient belief that the laws would roll back if we didn't spend time meeting with people who don't share our beliefs and how she put herself out there to try to change people's hearts and teach them that love is all that matters. Together, they also discuss Mrs. Parks' belief in education and lifelong learning before H.H. closes the show by sharing that she uses her difference to make a difference by following Mrs. Parks' wise words on forgiving others and yourself.Episode Highlights:How Mrs. Parks came to live with H.H. Tom and Pat deep dive into the results of four popular US tournaments that happened in August: The Red Putter, Maine Open, O-Street $1,000 and Farmington Miniature Golf. Between them, they putted in 3 of the 4 (Maine being the only exception) and talked about not only thier personal accomplishments but the success of the tournaments as a whole. They gushed over the variety of styles seen in the courses and the tournament formats. Tom even begrudingly gave Pat his due on winning Farmington. After a quick check of what this all meant for the American Mini Golf Alliance (AMA) rankings after 5 tournaments, they turned their eyes to a quick list of upcoming events. H.H. Leonards purchased the O Street Mansion 50 years ago as an art space, but the impact it had helping Rosa Parks is a story many may not know. Leonards got a call from Brother Willis Edwards of the Beverly Hills branch of the NAACP asking if Ms. Parks could stay in the mansion until she was able to heal emotionally and physically after being attacked in her Detroit home. Leonards, who said she didn't know who Parks was, agreed, and a beautiful 10+ year friendship between the two women was fostered. And to that end, Leonards has written "Rosa Parks, Beyond the Bus: Life Lessons and Leadership." This is truly one fascinating conversation that will simply blow your mind!
Secret doors, hidden rooms, a mansion that's also a hotel where literally everything is on sale to take home with you? It's time to visit the Mansion on O Street and become characters in the young adult fantasy novel we always dreamed about. Musician, computer dude, and crust punk cleaned up JACOB CUNNINGHAM joins us for this journey into incoherent maximalism as we discuss whimsy, curation, and John Lennon's worst review of a local laundry service. Plus, Jason and Jacob were in a band together back in high school and we revel in their mutual embarassment by playing the studio recording of their 2003 Rockville basement "hit" Killing Me. Is The Mansion on O Street something you have to do before you die? Listen and find out! If you've been to Lincoln, Nebraska and driven past 33rd and O Street, then you're probably familiar with our next guest. Andrea Champoux, now Andrea Trail, is a Real Estate agent with LH Real Estate. She's been in the investment world for over 5 years now, co-owns 25 doors with her father while She and her husband, Brenden Tail, owns and additional 10 doors together AND she self manages her properties. Get this, She had her first rental property at 17! Interestingly, this was also her Failing Forward which teaches us about the negative impact of splitting your focus, time and energy into too many things while trying to invest in real estate, which in itself as we all know requires a lot of dedication. Andrea is a living example of an important part of Owen's and Ted's WHY and it's evident in this Episode 34 of REIA Radio.

When you know what you do best, sticking to your guns—as artist PJ Morton writes and sings—is how to get your life’s work done. Today’s guest is N’Namdi Olufemi Bryant, a singer-songwriter and host of the podcast “For the Love of A Cappella.” We get into some themes of his latest album during this episode. So N’Namdi and I had been talking about doing a podcast together for MONTHS, but as usual, life takes on its own plans. We were going to have him on before an album release earlier this year, then tech difficulties took over his project. But the idea was still in both of our orbits. So—lookie here—I saw on Instagram that N’Namdi was in Washington, D.C. I said to myself—GIRL…..let’s make this happen! If you don’t ask him if he’ll have time for an interview—it’s an automatic no! I asked if he had an hour to chat. He said yes, and here it is! It all worked out. So we met up at the Mansion on O Street. It’s a tourist destination located just off the bustling Dupont Circle, and has a fascinating trove of history tied to it. It’s also where N’Namdi sometimes performs. There are so many themes to this podcast, and to preserve the integrity of the conversation flow, I tried not to do too much lifting and pasting of interview parts. We talk about negative self-talk, and what N’Namdi does to overcome that hurdle. Also—a discussion on imperfection and about the different ways he stretched his vocal range. During our talk, I learned something I didn’t know in the decades since we last saw each other. There was a period in time when N’Namdi was homeless. So let’s get right to the conversation, where we start talking about his podcast “For the Love of A Capella,”and where he got the idea for his program. ========== 07:55-Why it took him more than 10 years to complete one particular song arrangement 11:05—The makings and stories behind his current project “If We Could Only Talk” 21:30—How Kermit the Frog came up in our conversation 26:06—The road to vocal range 31:51—The time we talked about skylines and smog 33:39—Homeless in Huntsville, Ala. and Nashville 49:59—The part about albums, hilarious singing telegram and touching ride-share driver stories ====== Read more at https://planetnoun.com
