Tonight, we'll read the section on baking cookies from “Woman's Institute Library of Cookery Volume 4”, written by The Woman's Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences. The Woman's Institute was founded by Mary Brooks Picken in Scranton, PA. Born in Kansas in 1886, Picken wrote the first dictionary to be published by a woman in the English language, beyond the over one hundred other books she wrote. The word "cookie" comes from the Dutch word "koekje", which was Anglicized when the Dutch brought cookies to America in the late 1620s. The old fashioned spelling for cookies has the word ending with a “Y” instead of “ie”. The “ie” spelling became dominant in the 1950s, except where the older “y” spelling was still used in some prominent titles, such as “Betty Crocker's Cooky Book”. This was likely a result of the colonial revivalism happening at that time, with greater interest in old-fashioned recipes and colonial culture that lasted from the 1920s to the Bicentennial of the 1970s. — read by 'V' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! Bright on Buddhism - Asian Religions Series - Shintō Part 2 Hello and welcome to the Asian religions series. In this series, we will be discussing religious traditions in Asia other than Buddhism. Buddhism never existed in a vacuum, and as it has spread all across East Asia, it has developed, localized, and syncretized with local traditions in fascinating and significant ways. As such, we cannot provide a complete picture of East Asian without discussing those local traditions such as they were and are. Disclaimer: this series is very basic and introductory, and does not and cannot paint a complete picture of these religious traditions as they are in the present or throughout history. Today, we will be discussing Shintō, a very historically and culturally significant religious tradition in Japan. We hope you enjoy Resources: Azegami, Naoki (2012). Translated by Mark Teeuwen. ANGELA'S SYMPOSIUM 📖 Academic Study on Witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, magick and the Occult
This episode offers a scholarly exploration into the ancient Japanese spirituality of Shinto, or Kami-no-Michi, to understand Shinto's core principles and rituals, unravelling its place within historical contexts and modern esoteric traditions. We address pivotal questions central to Shinto's spiritual narrative: * How do Shinto practices integrate into the daily lives of the Japanese? * What are the historical origins of Shinto rituals like Misogi and Saisen? * In what ways do Omikuji and Omamori embody the intersection of faith and practice? * How do the ceremonies of Shinto reflect Japan's cultural ethos and the broader animistic worldview? We delve into the Misogi ritual of purification, the meaning behind the traditional offering of Saisen, and the significance of bell-ringing in shrine visits. We demystify the Omikuji practice of fortune-telling and the role of Omamori as protective talismans, examining their relevance to both adherents and curious scholars. This video not only shares vivid images and descriptions from my recent visit to Japan but also embeds these experiences within a framework of peer-reviewed scholarship. It is an indispensable resource for those studying comparative religion, Japanese culture, or the diverse expressions of the sacred in daily life. CONNECT & SUPPORT

Craig's clients include well-known aircraft OEMs, aircraft operators, leasing / financial organizations, and Maintenance / Repair / Overhaul (MRO) providers. With a track record spanning over a decade, Craig has personally concluded hundreds of successful executive-level searches across a variety of disciplines. Craig outlined five essential steps for recruiters looking to elevate their game: Invest in Yourself: Craig emphasized the importance of self-investment, urging recruiters to spend some money, go to conferences, engage in level-up conversations, and continuously seek opportunities for personal and professional growth. Follow the Right People: Recognizing the challenges of talent acquisition, Craig advised recruiters to connect with industry leaders to enhance their credibility and reputation as go-to experts. Following the right people will help you become a destination of choice. Know who you are working with: Success in recruitment, according to Craig, hinges on understanding your clients, delivering value, nurturing relationships, and adopting a long-term perspective. Choose Your Battles Wisely: Drawing from his experience and insights from the Naval Top Gun program, Craig shares a valuable lesson: “If you can't win the fight, don't fight. Go away and come back. Live to fight another day,” which is a great philosophy in recruiting. Differentiate yourself: Craig encouraged solo recruiters to carve out their unique identity and differentiate themselves from the competition. Whether through thought leadership on platforms like LinkedIn or showcasing their authentic self, it can significantly impact their success in the field. Ultimately, leveling up in recruitment involves positioning yourself as a trusted industry expert, promoting your voice, and leading by example. Positioning Yourself In The Market Craig shares the importance of positioning oneself in the market not merely as a transactional recruiter but as an invaluable resource, an expert dedicated to adding tangible value. By prioritizing value over closing deals, recruiters can elevate their status in the client's eyes. Rather than seeking short-term gains, they should aim to build lasting relationships grounded in trust and mutual benefit. According to Craig, the last thing he wants to be in his life is transactional, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Positioning yourself in the market is about relationships and being with your clients every step of the way. It's about maintaining a client-centric approach throughout the entire engagement process, being present, reliable, and supportive at every stage, regardless of the challenges or obstacles. This commitment to the long game ensures that clients and prospective clients feel supported and understood, strengthening the bond and attracting more business. In addition, Craig advocates for prioritizing integrity over immediate financial gain. When recruiters focus on delivering exceptional results, monetary rewards will naturally follow. Don't succumb to desperation or compromise on your principles for money; this can lead to dissatisfaction and ultimately damage the client relationship. Be willing to walk away from situations that don't align with your values to ensure you can pursue mutually beneficial partnerships built on trust and respect. Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Brian heralds this episode in with a very royal fanfare and there is much merriment and delusion filled laughter as we hail the British King of fuzz. Brian hasn't been sleeping because he's been coming up with a multitude of crazy new ideas and he tells us about that as the guys trade age and caffeine based tales.Richard tries to give the episode a Halloween theme against a backdrop of mild protestations and we discover that Brian has been out gigging on the Chickin' Picken' circuit. Brian tells us about the scary movies he has seen and the guys talk about scary music and wax lyrical about John Carpenter's musical chops. Richard discusses "Diabolus in Musica" as the discussion on spooky music threatens to become intellectual but the guys quickly rectify that. Have you ever struck your elbow with a telecaster? It really hurts and the guys talk about guitar related mishaps before discussing a recent controversy in two parts starting with a discussion about "mojo" components and then the evil practice of dressing up newer components to look exactly like vintage ones. Meanwhile Brian has some unhygienic plans for the holiday season and makes a proclamation that has both his co-hosts questioning reality. Ai Gandalf reads the credits.
