The Government is planning to put forward new laws to ban under-16s from having online accounts, with age verification tools. Cabinet ministers are understood to be prioritising the proposed legislation ahead of Ireland's EU Presidency in June. Last December, Australia became the first country to restrict teenagers from social media, with others planning similar bans. However, Fianna Fail TD Malcom Byrne, who's chairperson of the Oireachtas Committee on Artificial Intelligence, thinks the Government should wait to see what impact Australia's ban is having. To unpack what this could mean in practice — from technology and enforcement to privacy and business impact — Alan Morrissey spoke with Pat Clarke Browne, Technology Expert with Munster Business and Garrett Greene, Lecturer in Law at the Technological University of the Shannon. Nur, was kann ich dafür, dass partout kein Zielgebiet, kein Veranstalter und die wenigsten Anbieter wenigstens eine klitzekleine Werbung schalten wollen. Dabei ist das doch erschwinglich. Das Klima Die Klimakrise führt zum ersten inhaltlichen Highlight und zum Podcast-Talk, den ich auf der Tourismusbörse in Berlin mit Harald Zeiss führen konnte. Er ist Professor für Tourismus an der Hochschule Harz und – vermutlich hört er das nicht so gern – der „Umweltpapst“ in Sachen Tourismus. Wir haben im März ausgemacht, dieses Gespräch jetzt jährlich zu führen. Gründe dafür gibt es schließlich genug. Die Tatsachen holten einen dann schon selbst auf den Boden der Klimakrise zurück. Schaut man auf die Zahlen, ist der Niedergang des Reisens in die Vereinigten Staaten nicht mehr abzustreiten. Perspektivisch wird es eher schlimmer, als besser: Besucher müssen sich im nächsten Jahr darauf einstellen, dass auf dem ESTA-Einreiseantrag die „Social Media Accounts“ abgefragt werden. Ein Schelm, wer das Zutreffende denkt, denn ESTA ist ja keine Einreisegenehmigung, sondern nur ein Einreiseantrag. Ganz nebenbei: Der Urlaub in den Vereinigten Staaten ist sauteuer geworden. Europa und Deutschland Also hab ich mich auf Deutschland konzentriert und auf Europa. Da gibt's reichlich Entdeckungspotential. Das habe ich auf meinen Recherchetouren genutzt. Hier stieß ich aktuell gerade an meine Grenzen. Ja, ich war auf Usedom. Ja, ich weiß, wie hoch der AfD-Stimmenanteil dort bei der letzten Bundestagswahl war und wie hoch er schlimmstenfalls bei der Landtagswahl im Nordosten werden könnte. Hört die Story im Podcast. Leider ist es ja so, dass diese Stimmenanteile überall wachsen. Deshalb möchte ich aber nicht die halbe Republik aus der Berichterstattung ausschließen, so schlimm wie gefährlich ich diese Entwicklung einschätze. Bessere Arbeitsbedingungen für Journalistinnen und Journalisten, nicht nur, aber insbesondere im Reisebereich. Auf dass nicht Alles den laufenden KI-Bach runtergeht. Gesundheit und weiter Spaß an dem, was ich da mache. 2026 wird das Jahr sein, wo ich zum 40. Mal auf die Internationale Tourismus Börse (ITB) in Berlin fahren werde. Hoffentlich ist sie so produktiv wie immer. Und dann wünsche ich allen Reiseradio Hörer:innen und Website-Lesenden ein ähnlich gesundes, schönes und erfolgreiches Jahr. Vergesst nicht zu reisen. Das ist gut in Sachen Erfahrungen, Toleranz und (auch) politischer Erkenntnis und hilft gegen Rassismus, Hass und politischen Rechtsruck (hatten wir, war Scheiße und hat Millionen von Menschen das Leben gekostet!). (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark 2,000 Christians in India protested persecution Around 2,000 Christians gathered in India's capital of New Delhi last month to protest persecution. Speakers at the event noted that attacks on Christians in the country increased 500% between 2014 and 2024. However, police investigated less than 20% of the cases.  One organizer said, “This is not a political movement, but a constitutional dialogue among Indian citizens from the Christian faith, exercising their democratic rights. The systematic and egregious violence and hostility, coupled with police inaction and lack of access to justice, requires solutions.” India is ranked 11th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult countries to be a Christian.  Australia banned social media accounts for kids Australia became the first country in the world to ban social media accounts for children this week. The government now requires social media companies to deactivate the accounts of children under 16 in the country or face serious fines. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese released a message, calling on young people to invest in real-world activities and relationships. Listen.  ALBANESE: “Make the most of the school holidays coming up, rather than spending it scrolling on your phone. Start a new sport, learn a new instrument, or read that book that has been sitting there on your shelf for some time. And importantly, spend quality time with your friends and your family, face to face.” Supreme Court allows Texas county to ban objectionable books In America, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed a Texas county to keep its ban on objectionable books in public libraries. The issue began in 2021 when Llano County in Central Texas removed 17 books from libraries at the request of local residents. The disputed titles included multiple books for young adults with themes on sexually perverted lifestyles. Sadly, other residents favored access to such indecency. The Supreme Court's ruling on Monday leaves in place a ruling by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. That ruling noted, “From the moment they emerged in the mid-19th century, public libraries have shaped their collections to present what they held to be worthwhile literature. … Public libraries used to exclude most novels, which were thought bad for morals.” Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” 15th county bans abortion Motley County, Texas became the 15th county in the nation to ban abortion. On Monday, the county's Commissioners Court unanimously adopted a Sanctuary County for the Unborn ordinance. Motley County is the 13th county in Texas to pass such an ordinance. It is also the 22nd political subdivision in the U.S. to pass such a measure this year. Wikipedia's #1 2025 article: Charlie Kirk's assassination Wikipedia announced its most-read articles of 2025. The online encyclopedia reported that the most popular article on English Wikipedia this year covered Charlie Kirk. The Christian activist was assassinated on September 10th of this year while speaking at an event for his organization, Turning Point USA, at Utah Valley University.  30% of U.S. adults took political/spiritual action in wake of Charlie Kirk's death The Barna Group released a new survey last week on the spiritual impact of Charlie Kirk's death.  The study found that nearly 30% of U.S. adults took action since Kirk's death. While some said they took political action, most said they took spiritual action. This was especially true among younger generations.  And nearly half of Americans said that Charlie Kirk's death will have a positive impact on Christianity among younger Americans.  Isaiah 41:10 most popular verse on YouVersion app And finally, the Bible platform, YouVersion, announced the verse with the highest international engagement this year.  That verse was Isaiah 41:10. It says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. Fianna Fáil has published the combined findings of its Parenting in the Digital Age survey and its Youth Online Safety Workshop in conjunction with Foróige and Crosscare, revealing deep concern among parents about children's exposure to online risks, alongside new evidence showing just how young children are when they first enter the digital world. The survey of almost 1,000 participants, carried out by Fianna Fáil's parliamentary party working group, shows that families are struggling to keep pace with fast-changing digital technologies and the online environments their children inhabit.
