Thom Deleuw's story reflects dedication and a father's love. After a 34-year career in law enforcement, Thom found his true purpose when his son, Jack, had a serious motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Thom became Jack's full-time caregiver, viewing it as a "willing obligation" that highlights their strong bond.Thom's journey has been marked by resilience and adaptability. He prepared for the “new role” by taking online courses and utilizing the VA caregiver support program, ensuring he was equipped to provide the specialized care Jack required. Despite the challenges, Thom maintains a positive outlook, emphasizing that the work doesn't "seem so bad" when you're caring for someone you love so deeply. His willingness to take on the role, rather than outsourcing it, speaks volumes about his unwavering commitment to his son's well-being.Throughout their journey, Thom and Jack have faced setbacks, including a second motorcycle accident that left Jack paralyzed from the sternum down. Yet, their unbreakable spirit shines through, with Thom expressing pride in Jack's determination to regain his mobility and independence. The duo's shared sense of humor and camaraderie have been instrumental in navigating the ups and downs, demonstrating the power of a father-son relationship rooted in unconditional love and support.About Thom:Thom was born on December 8, 1954, in Norfolk, Virginia, and was raised in a middle-class family where hard work was valued. After spending his early years in Virginia, he moved to Florida for two years before returning to North Carolina, where he graduated from high school in Greensboro in 1973.With aspirations of becoming a police officer, Thom joined the Army in November 1973 and attended military police school. His first duty station was in West Berlin, Germany, during the time the Berlin Wall was still up, which proved to be a significant adventure. After three years, Thom returned home, briefly pursued a golf career, and worked as an assistant golf pro before becoming a police officer in Portsmouth, Virginia. In 1984, he moved back to North Carolina, where he began his long and rewarding career in law enforcement, eventually meeting his wife while on duty.Thom's life took another turn when he became a dedicated father to his son, Jack. Their bond deepened over the years, especially after Thom gained full custody when Jack was 12. Jack followed in his father's footsteps and enlisted in the Army, embarking on his own journey that included both triumphs and challenges.Support the showConfessions of a Reluctant Caregiver Sisterhood of Care, LLC Website: www.confessionsofareluctantcaregiver.com Like us on Facebook! Let's be honest: there are seasons in life when things feel heavy and hard and the thought of breaking through the noise and negativity seems impossible. But with a little retooling of perspective, you can shift the conversation to one that is more productive and more hope-filled. In this episode, Timothy Shriver discusses his lifelong commitment to promoting dignity and unity through his work with the Special Olympics and the Dignity Index. He shares practical steps (and real-life examples gleaned from guests of his brand new Need A Lift? podcast) to demonstrate how you can turn a difficult conversation into an opportunity to form a connection. And if that's not enough, Jen and Amy dig into some of their biggest fears – the ones they want to Bless and Release. *** Thought-provoking Quotes: “I was being invited into a world in which the pursuit of making the world better, more just, more hopeful was a joyful pursuit. It wasn't a burden. It wasn't a responsibility of commitment you had to keep.” – Tim Shriver "We need people willing to take a chance – on each other, on trying again, on their communities." – Tim Shriver “Without losing my passion, without losing my commitment to the issues, I can still treat people with dignity.” – Tim Shriver "Contempt for each other is the problem and treating each other with dignity is the solution." – Tim Shriver “We can't get legislation in most states or at the Federal level that embodies either of those majority opinions [border security and gun control] because the contempt on the extremes is so dominating the conversation that our political leaders find it in their best interest not to solve the problem or too scary to try.” – Tim Shriver Resources Mentioned in This Episode: The Special Olympics - https://www.specialolympics.org/ Fully Alive: Discovering What Matters Most by Tim Shriver - https://amzn.to/3NXAie9 The Dignity Index - https://www.dignity.us/ Tim's Need A Lift Podcast - https://www.timothyshriver.com/projects/need-a-lift How Michael and Nicole Phelps Unlearned the Fear of Losing - https://apple.co/3NGKiYI A Special Olympics Gold Medalist on Authenticity and Play: Loretta Claiborne - https://apple.co/4hhBbLF Simon Sinek Believes that Idealism Belongs In the Workplace - https://apple.co/4dXmjj0 Taking Off Our Masks through Confession with Fr. At this year's FreedomFest in Las Vegas, Matt Kibbe sits down with English comedian Andrew Doyle to talk about how comedy, and indeed art as a whole, has been impacted by woke identity politics and critical theory. Doyle is pushing back against a claim that a comedian's race or gender is more important than whether he or she can be funny. He's also firmly committed to mocking those with absurd ideas, and that includes activists who want to police speech and silence dissent. The unique advantage of comedy is that it can hold a mirror up to the society and expose the ridiculous and the hypocritical.

Do you like tea? Sure, maybe. But have you ever tried (or seen someone else try) yerba mate? Mate goes beyond just a drink. It goes beyond the English tea time or that of other cultures. It's something which is almost... spiritual, you know?Having started as a tradition among the Guarani people and then adopted by Spanish colonizers, this drink has spread across the world and is now seen consumed by European athletes, Hollywood artists, and even... U.S. presidents?!The story behind mate is quite a fascinating and interesting one, and it's a story we dive into in our penultimate episode of the third season of the Learn Spanish with Stories podcast! Enjoy the episode, and make sure to prepare your favorite drink before diving in!Transcript of this episode is available at: https://podcast.lingomastery.com/listen/1269

We are encouraged today to seek this Joy that depends on much more than what the world can offer.
"Fa'afafine is such a part of our culture we don't feel the need to explain it. It's a coming of age story as opposed to a 'coming out' story others in the rainbow community have."These are the words of Jaiyah Saelua as she details what it means to be fa'afafine and the first ever transgender athlete to play in a World Cup Qualifying match back in 2011 for American Samoa. Though, Thomas Rongen received all the headlines when he lead that American Samoa team to their 2-1 WCQ victory over Tonga, there was another story developing at the same time. Though it was covered in the 2014 documentary 'Next Goal Wins', it's featured much more prominently in the 2023 film based on the documentary of the same name and it's brought Jaiyah back into the discussion. In this episode of the podcast, Jaiyah shares her perspective of that 2011 win, her fa'afafine identity, and how we can continue to unite people through football.Enjoy!*Humans United FC is proudly brought to you by Hayworth Athletic*Humans United FC is a multimedia storytelling brand committed to sharing the human experience through the lens of sport. Ryan Deiss is the Founder and CEO of The Scalable Company, where he helps entrepreneurs build operating systems to scale their businesses. He is also the Founder and CEO of DigitalMarketer, the Founding Partner at Scalable Equity LLC, and the Founder and host of the Traffic and Conversion Summit, North America's largest digital marketing conference. As a serial entrepreneur, author, and investor, Ryan is a digital marketing expert and the author of Get Scalable. In this episode… Some entrepreneurs can build businesses that thrive without them. What separates these entrepreneurs from the rest who struggle with overwhelming challenges and growth stagnation? How can you transition your business from a self-reliant operation to a scalable enterprise that can function without constant founder involvement? A digital marketing titan and a master of scalable systems, Ryan Deiss once struggled to manage his cashflow and felt trapped in the “founder's paradox,” the concept that entrepreneurs must decrease their operational role to increase the company's growth. To build, scale, and exit your business, you must identify its value propositions before creating strategic processes to maximize them. Your business can function independently when you establish a dedicated fund for business expenses to manage cash flow, prioritize strategic planning, become proactive in your personal and professional life, and embrace the “founder's paradox” to enable scalability. In this episode of Destination Business Freedom, Pat Mancuso welcomes Ryan Deiss, the Founder and CEO of The Scalable Company, to discuss the perspective shifts needed to scale. Ryan explained how he overcame significant business challenges, the importance of aligning personal values with business ambitions to set goals, and the delicate balance between family life and entrepreneurial endeavors.

No matter how old we get, there is always a part of us that wants to feel the way a baby feels in a mothers arms - I'm safe, I'm protected, I'm loved. Basically that feeling of someone genuinely going “I got you, no matter what.” Many people still get that from a parent but if not, along the way in our life we come across people who make us feel this, who make us believe in ourselves more than we knew we could just by how they believe in us. We forget about this feeling especially if too much time has passed since being around them or maybe because of distance or maybe because they are no longer here on earth but I recently realized that the impact these people have on us leaves a permanent imprint on our being, and we can tap into it whenever we want. It's always there. Give this episode a listen to see how I unpack this and did this. Want to unpack a topic or something you are going through with me? After a big re-election win last year, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Florida is “where woke goes to die.” But the slew of culture-war policies he pushed, from restricting instruction about sexual orientation in schools to cracking down on drag performances, aren't a top issue for many voters in the presidential race. While Republicans were generally supportive of DeSantis's policies, they still said they preferred former President Donald Trump for the White House because of his stances on immigration and his record in the White House. WSJ political reporter Jimmy Vielkind travels to central Florida to speak with parents, activists and long-time Republicans about the limits of the culture war and what role they might play in Trump's re-election campaign. Hot off the heels of WWE's Elimination Chamber, we are getting a better vision of what will headline WrestleMania this year, but questions still loom over some key performers and matches - most notably the involvement of The Rock. Are they going to continue to rely on North American stars to fill the holes being left by some of their veterans? The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer is back with a look at the 10-Man Dog Pound Cage Match from NJPW a couple weeks ago - and together he and Mike discuss their feelings about the match. Plus, Dave gives his thoughts after the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards has come out. Does he agree with the picks? Do YOU? The final show before Christmas, we hope everyone has a great holiday! In the first hour, SKOR North's Phil Mackey talks about the Wolves' win over the LeBron-less Lakers last night to tie the NBA's best record in the league and shares with Tom about the two very different paths remaining for the Vikings this season, KSTP's Chris Egert shares a warning about flu and COVID cases being on the rise this time of the year but the good news is that gas prices are down across the Midwest. Plus more top headlines from the day! Hour #2 has Bob Sansevere who talks about about the Twins making no moves, the Wolves atop the NBA, the Wild turning things around with back to back OT wins, and the Vikings path to the playoffs. In hour #3, it's the last segment of the morning show before Christmas, so we talk about movies. You know the kind of movies we're talking about. Murderfests, of course. Jack Ryan, Reacher, and various other "muscular man shoots people" fare. Tim Lammers is personally a fan of Reacher. Then Kristyn Burtt brings things home with the other kind of movie you talk about on Christmas: cowboy sex movies. Okay, we also talk about Christmas movies, and the cowboy one itself is in fact a Christmas movie. On the Family, Josh Arnold discusses the merits of movies that are too long. Maybe that's not the best way to phrase it, but you know what I mean. We also discuss the merits of learning how to fix your own stuff. Sure, you might cause some Tim Taylor shenanigans at first, but the net result is generally positive after you've figured out which wire goes in which slot.
