2026 June 7th - 9:00am Generations Sermon - Pastor Sam by St Luke's Lutheran Church & School
This week, Pastor Sam Gibson continued our FREED series with a sermon on rejection—opening by admitting he couldn't promise freedom from it. Rejection is inevitable. The real question is whether it will deform you or transform you. Pastor Sam unpacked the snare of recognition as rejection's dangerous shadow side, walked through the Greco-Roman context of adoption in Romans 8, and landed on this: in Christ, we are not rescued strays but chosen heirs—named, inheritance transferred, legally irrevocable. That is the spirit of adoption available to us, and it is what sets us free.
As we wrap up our City on a Hill series, we tackle an essential question: What motivates our outreach? Many people care, but not everyone acts. While guilt, religious duty, and judgment can all produce temporary action, none of them reflect the heart of Jesus. In Matthew 9, we see that Jesus was moved by compassion—a deep, inward mercy that saw people, understood their condition, and moved toward them in love. This episode explores why compassion is the necessary fuel for healthy outreach and how believers can become people who don't just talk about loving others, but consistently live it out.A city on a hill isn't bright because it's impressive. It's bright because it burns with the compassion of Christ.
Feeling stuck in the routine? This series dives into the idea of moving beyond just having faith and diving deep into a desperate search for God, like a parched land longing for rain. Learn to let go of control and discover real life through a fervent pursuit of God. Pastor Sam shared in this message that it's not too late to experience spiritual renewal.
Ruth and Boaz show that when we live for God, we bear the following fruits. We are fully alive in both work and play, we are emotionally expressive and physically self controlled in love, and we value both generosity and privacy.

Pastor Sam shared in this message that when you submit to God, you're helping yourself grow into the amazing person God intended you to be.
question: how do we get salty and stay salty? In John 15, Jesus teaches that fruit is not produced through striving, image, or performance, but through abiding in Him. Before we can reflect Jesus publicly, we have to remain connected to Him privately. This message is a reminder that connection produces fruit, while disconnection produces performance. The invitation of Jesus is not to try harder, but to remain closer.

Why are you here? Why now? Why has God placed you in this specific community, city, workplace, family, and season? In this message, we talk about what it means to resolve our location theologically. Through Acts 17, Jeremiah 29, and Matthew 5, we see that God is intentional about where and when we live. Our community is not an accident — it is an assignment.Jesus calls His people salt and light, meaning we are called to proximity, presence, and visibility. We cannot influence people we refuse to be around, and we are not called to hide the light of Christ in us. As followers of Jesus, we allow people to taste and see that the Lord is good through proximity, and we generate visibility for Jesus by reflecting His light.
Pastor Sam visits a house church and opens up the scriptures to show that for the vine to flourish, it needs biblical trellises to support it.
Feeling stuck in the routine? This series dives into the idea of moving beyond just having faith and diving deep into a desperate search for God, like a parched land longing for rain. Learn to let go of control and discover real life through a fervent pursuit of God. Pastor Sam mentioned that God may appear distant because you've drifted away from Him, and He's patiently waiting for you to return.
Rachel only begins to experience rivalry in chapter 30 because she gets starved of the attention and affection she has long taken for granted. Rachel competes by playing dirty because she's so desperate to regain her status. But as she goes from assuming she's better to becoming bitter and even monstrous, until she finally learns to pray as one who knows she needs grace. Because her understanding of living as a child of God is incomplete, the sibling rivalry continues and is only resolved through the work of Jesus. Jesus calls all who consider themselves nicer and more righteous than others to repent and builds a church that can welcome all, including the black sheep in all our families.

Joshua 8 Why do we love the accounts of underdogs? Or stories of redemption? We don't need to look any further than the Bible. The theme of redemption is inextricably linked to our humanity - The idea of being restored or forgiven. Well how does God perform this work? We consider one of His works of redemption in Joshua chapter 8 this week as Pastor Sam points us to God's wonderful redeeming power.
Technology isn't inherently bad—but it is shaping you.In this episode, we talk about what it means to live in a world of constant noise, endless scrolling, and algorithm-driven attention. Why do we reach for our phones without thinking? Why does it feel so hard to be still? This conversation explores how digital habits are forming our thoughts, emotions, and spiritual lives—and how we can begin to set boundaries that actually lead to freedom. Jesus doesn't compete with noise—He calls us out of it.If you've been feeling distracted, overwhelmed, or spiritually distant, this is an invitation to reset and refocus.Because attention isn't neutral—it's directional.
2026 May 3rd - 9:00am Generations Sermon - Pastor Sam by St Luke's Lutheran Church & School
In this episode of the parenting mini-series, Hayden and Molly interview Pastor Sam and discuss guarding children, raising children in technology driven world, and practical lessons Sam has learned with his children.
This Sunday, Pastor Sam continued our FREED series with a teaching on freedom from sin, drawing from 1 John 1:5–10, 2:1–2. He opened by naming what sin actually does to us: it separates, stains, sensitizes, steals, and spreads. The heart of the message, though, was not diagnosis. It was invitation. Through the lens of both guilt-innocence and honor-shame frameworks, Pastor Sam showed that Jesus doesn't just declare us innocent; He restores the relationship. Through the practice of honest, specific, and confident confession, we can walk out of the shadows and into the freedom that is already our inheritance in Christ.
For all the bigness of the gospel, for all the grand proclamations that Jesus is drawing all things to himself, his way of sharing that news is surprisingly small. Jesus is at work in the local. The Church that is committed to the Jesus message and the Jesus method will be deeply committed to local. As my (Pastor Sam) grandmother once told me, “A pastor should smell like his congregation.”

Pastor Sam 1 Corinthians 1:17 - 2:26
Life is a journey, not just a race to the finish line.We often get so focused on the destination that we miss the miracles happening right in front of us. In this series, we are exploring the "in-between"—learning how to embrace the abundant life Jesus promised us today, not just someday. In this message, Pastor Sam shared that Jesus knows you and invites you to know Him!
Relationships are powerful—but they can also be distracting. This week, we talk about relational distraction: how the people in our lives can subtly shift our focus, influence our decisions, and sometimes pull us away from what matters most. What does it look like to have relationships that actually lead you toward truth instead of away from it?This message brings clarity to that tension.

What if distraction isn't just about being busy—but about being emotionally divided? In this message, we revisit the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38–42 and uncover a deeper layer that often gets missed. Martha wasn't rebuked for working—she was gently corrected for being worried and upset. Her issue wasn't activity; it was internal agitation. That hits close to home.We live in a world where emotional overload is normal—constant headlines, pressure, fear, and noise. We're physically present but mentally and emotionally somewhere else. Like Martha, we can be in the room with Jesus and still feel distant. But Jesus' response reveals the antidote: “only one thing is needed.”This episode explores:Why emotional distraction is more dangerous than busynessHow internal division affects your peace, clarity, and connection with GodThe subtle ways culture shapes what you care aboutWhy humility is the gateway to freedomHow to actually “cast your cares” instead of carrying themThe world demands your attention—but Jesus invites your affection. And what you give your affection to will shape your life.
Joshua 6 As the Israelites approached Jericho God had a peculiar plan for the - walk around the city 7 days in a row without engaging in battle. That's a hard battle plan to legitimize! It didn't make much sense. However, it did require faith. And God was faithful to bring about miraculous victory. So, what does God want you and I to see as we consider this account? Listen this week as Pastor Sam helps us answer that question.

What if the breakthrough you're waiting for is on the other side of one step of faith? ABOUT THE MESSAGE In Part 1 of Believe, Pastor Sam Muyaka reminds us that faith isn't built on what we see, but on trusting what God has said. Through Peter's story in Luke 5, we're reminded that one step of obedience can lead to breakthrough and deeper encounters with Jesus. Joshua 5 Have you ever thought about your identity. In other words, who do you identify with? Is it a person, a social movement, a genre of music? Well, for the Christian there can really only be one answer - God. But what does it mean to identify with God? And how can you tell if you're actually living according to that identity? We consider the topic of identity this week as Pastor Sam continues his study in the book of Joshua.

Matt 5:27-32 Why is lust such a problem in our culture? Perhaps we think of all the media sources that promote sexually charged minds. Or, we look at the way that people dress or dance. But are we truly the first culture that has promoted a high level of sexuality? Did people during Jesus' day struggle with these same things? And if so, what did Jesus say about this issue of lust? We consider that this evening with Pastor Sam.
Have you ever had a moment where you knew—you blew it?This Easter message follows Peter's story of failure and restoration, revealing a powerful truth: Jesus doesn't leave us in our shame—He meets us in it.The resurrection isn't just that Jesus is alive…It's that He comes back for you. With grace. With purpose. With an invitation.
This week in part 2 of Pastor Sam's message from last week, we see that emptiness and need are conditions of seeing Jesus. Through the blind beggar, Bartimaeus, we discover that the posture of desperate need is precisely what opens our eyes to who Jesus actually is and what it means to follow him.
