Die Bundeswehr wird 70. Am 12. November 1955 überreichte der damalige Verteidigungsminister, Theodor Blank, den ersten 101 Freiwilligen in Bonn ihre Ernennungsurkunden. Es begann ein neues Kapitel deutscher Geschichte. Heute ist die Bundeswehr wichtiges Mitglied innerhalb der NATO. Einen scheinbar undurchdringlichen Schleier haben die islamistischen Taliban über weite Teile Afghanistans gelegt. Frauen und Mädchen haben sie aus der Öffentlichkeit verdrängt und die ganze Zivilgesellschaft mit einem dichten Netz aus Überwachung und Einschüchterung überzogen. Und “der Westen” scheint Afghanistan immer mehr aus dem Blick zu verlieren, obwohl doch viele westliche Regierungen, auch die deutsche, dieses Land einst auf einen demokratischen Weg bringen wollten. Jetzt aber rückt Afghanistan vor allem dann ins politische Blickfeld, wenn es darum geht, afghanische Straftäter dorthin abzuschieben. In Absprache mit den Taliban, denen die Bundesregierung gerade die Übernahme des afghanischen Generalkonsulats in Bonn gestattet hat. Und wo bleiben die Menschen, die in Afghanistan von den Taliban unterdrückt werden? Finden sie aller Überwachung zum Trotz noch Freiräume, in getarnten Schlupfwinkeln, hinter ihren Haustüren, unter dem Radar? Vidcast:  https://www.instagram.com/p/DQdpWA_kS0y/Age-Related Macular degeneration is the leading cause of adult blindness, but Stanford University research ophthalmologists have developed an electronic retinal implant that promises to restore sight to millions.  Their device, nicknamed PRIMA standing for photovoltaic retina implant microarray, includes a subretinal wireless implant and wearable video camera.  The camera, mounted on an eyeglass frame, detects an image.  That image is converted by a pocket processor into infrared laser light signals that are directed through the lens of the eye to the implant under the retina.  The implant, in turn, creates the neural electrical  signals that restore sight. James Beevers is a PhD student at Westminster and he has an interesting personal history. He comes from a WTS family in that his father is an alumnus from the PhD program and his mother from the MAC program. But his reformed roots go potentially so deep that he may be related to Theodore Beza himself.
