A recent open access article in the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization reported on results from research comparing the effect of (the same) opinions expressed by visibly senior, female versus male experts. Common wisdom might hold that women suffer from an “authority gap” compared to their male peers, but is that really the case?To explore the findings of this research I am delighted to be joined by one of the authors of the study, Professor Hans Henrik Sievertsen.About our guest…Hans Henrik Sievertsen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Bristol, and is also a senior researcher at the Danish Center for Social Science Research and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics in Bonn. Man müsste mal...seine Komfortzone verlassen und seinen Horizont erweitern! „Bei manchen Leuten ist es so: sie gehen in den Ruhestand, renovieren dann erst einmal die Wohnung, machen vielleicht eine Reise und dann kommt der Moment, in dem sie sich fragen „Was nun?“, sagt Almut Lüpkes, Repräsentantin des Senior Expert Service SES in Schwerin. In ihrem Büro in der Industrie- und Handelskammer zu Schwerin führt sie zahlreiche Gespräche mit Menschen, die kurz vor Ende des Arbeitslebens stehen oder schon eine Weile im Ruhestand sind und sich genau diese Frage stellen. Der SES ist die größte deutsche Ehrenamtsorganisation für Fach- und Führungskräfte im Ruhestand oder in einer beruflichen Auszeit (Weltdienst 30+). Der SES unterstützt den Know-how-Transfer in der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit. In Deutschland setzt er sich vor allem für den Nachwuchs in Schule und Ausbildung ein. Zurzeit stellen dem SES mehr als 14.000 Experten aus allen beruflichen Richtungen ihr Wissen und ihre Erfahrung zur Verfügung. Seit 1983 hat der SES über 60.000 ehrenamtliche Einsätze in 170 Ländern durchgeführt, etwa ein Drittel davon in Deutschland. Der SES hat seinen Sitz in Bonn. Er wird bundesweit durch Vertretungen und weltweit von rund 200 Repräsentantinnen und Repräsentanten in 90 Ländern vertreten. Eine von ihnen ist Almut Lüpkes aus Schwerin. Vom Wissen des SES profitieren im In- und Ausland vor allem kleine und mittlere Unternehmen, öffentliche Verwaltungen, Kammern und Wirtschaftsverbände, soziale und medizinische Einrichtungen und Institutionen der Grund- und Berufsbildung. Einen besonderen Schwerpunkt in Deutschland bildet die Förderung junger Menschen in Schule (Schulprogramm) und Ausbildung (VerAplus – Verbesserung von Ausbildungserfolgen). In this episode of the All Things Sustainable podcast, we're taking listeners on a whistlestop tour of several big summer events in Europe that will shape sustainability discussions on the road to COP30, the UN Climate Change Conference in Belém, Brazil in November 2025.  We cover key outcomes from the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France — including progress toward a Marine Biodiversity Treaty.  We talk to Beth Burks, Director on the Sustainable Finance Markets team at S&P Global Ratings, about her takeaways from annual climate meetings in Bonn, Germany.   “If COP is like the big show every year, then Bonn is the dress rehearsal,” Beth explains.   Beth also shares highlights from London Climate Action Week, which in 2025 grew significantly to include more than 700 events and more than 45,000 attendees.   In the episode we also speak to Tom Beloe, Director of the Sustainable Finance Hub at the UN Development Programme, or UNDP. Tom shares big takeaways from the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, or FFD4, in Sevilla Spain. The conference took place for the first time in a decade this summer and centered around financing for the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs.   A unifying theme across all these events is the importance of multilateralism to address sustainability challenges that transcend borders, like climate change, nature loss and ocean conservation. These meetings, which take place every year, constitute the only formal space for negotiations ahead of the COP, and are therefore very important.   In this episode of the Climate Briefing, Anna and Ruth speak to Alden Meyer (Senior Associate at E3G) and Catherine Abreu (Director of the International Climate Politics Hub) about what the main outcomes of the conference were, what the key sticking points were, and what it all means for COP30.

Die 1983 in Bern geborene Künstlerin Sophie Hunger wuchs am Fuße des Gurtens auf, dem Hausberg ihrer Geburtsstadt. Aber nicht nur dort, es ging viel hin und her in ihrer Kindheit und Jugend, London, Bonn, später Teheran und zwischendurch eben die Schweiz. Mit 10 spielte sie auf dem Klavier ihre ersten eigenen Songs, Musik wird jetzt zur festen Begleiterin. Nach der Matura macht sich Sophie auf die Suche, studiert mal dies, mal das, bricht immer wieder ab, singt in verschiedenen Bands und arbeitet in der Gastronomie, bis sie 2006 im Eigenvertrieb ihre erste CD veröffentlicht. Endlich kommt dieser Schub und diese lang ersehnte Bestätigung, zukünftig als Musikerin leben zu wollen und auch zu können. Wenig später performt sie als Vorband des höchst erfolgreichen Stephan Eicher im Pariser Bataclan und tritt beim Montreux Jazz Festival auf. Seitdem gilt die zweifache Mutter, Sängerin, Songwriterin, Filmkomponistin und nun auch Romanautorin Sophie Hunger als eine der innovativsten und außergewöhnlichsten Künstlerinnen Europas.
