Sobriety is an opportunity to fully accept and trust ourselves. We cultivate self-trust by saying “yes” to ourselves over a series of choices. Sobriety gives you plenty of opportunities to say “yes” to yourself. In this episode, Jenna Zaffino shares her personal story around alcohol and how it relates to motherhood, spirituality and running a business. Sobriety creates more opportunities to better yourself. Instead of planning your next drink, you free yourself up to think about other things like healthy meal planning, creative projects or having meaningful relationships. This work isn’t easy. We share resources and tips that will help you be successful on the sober journey. It all starts with unlearning the belief that giving up alcohol also means giving up belonging, connection and community. Amazing things happen when you align yourself with your true values. For us, being sober means having a deeper spiritual practice, finding our voice and finding our business and relationship purposes. Jenna is a dynamic leader who offers education for your brain, body and business through professional coaching, movement experiences, writing, and speaking. The balanced alignment of the brain, body, business trifecta is the platform from which Jenna helps hundreds of fitness and wellness professionals access mindset shifts, physical resiliency and empowered individuality in their business practices. Jenna is a seasoned Pilates Teacher and Educator and has evolved her small business from a multi-purpose movement center, to an online educational hub and support system for wellness pros. Motivated by her own personal recovery from professional burnout, Jenna hosts online support programs, tours internationally with her speaking and coaching courses and hosts her wildly popular podcasts, Pilates Unfiltered™ and Moving Experiences™. She currently runs a private coaching and teaching practice in Chicago’s North Center. https://jennazaffino.com/ https://www.instagram.com/jennazaffino/

Conversations where hands are thrown up in the air, tears are shed, snorts of laughter are abundant and the connection is strong are my reason for podcasting. My conversation with Kelly Kane was more like a rebirth of purpose and reaffirmed why I started Pilates Unfiltered. Kelly Kane studied Pilates with Romana Krazanaska & Hila Paldi, completing her certification with The Pilates Institute. She has studied BodyMind Centering™, Continuum Movement™, Iyengar Yoga, and has done extensive Crossfit training. She attended Massage School at the Florida School of Massage and her manual therapy repertoire includes Structural Integration™, CranioSacral Therapy™ and Visceral Manipulation. She further developed her perceptual skills through three years of human cadaver dissection. Today, Kelly directs the Kane School of Core Integration, which is the training program she originated in New York City. but currently resides in Rochester, Vermont where she teaches Pilates on her 57 acre farm and at Biscuit Hill Pilates in Woodstock, Vermont. There was this question as to okay if this body mind spirit thing is happening then where the heck is this spirit element. And I think that where it manifested for me was definitely in that area outside of the comfort zone. I would start to explore a concept that I found fascinating that had nothing to do with exercise proper. And in the exploration of that, if I could make it past the discomfort of nerves or ego or insecurity jumping in, if I could make it over that hurdle and drop in, then I could experience an embodiment of the energy that I believed I saw in Ron and others in my life; an embodiment of being in alignment with my voice as a teacher, my purpose as a human being, my role as a collaborator with my clients. And there is a groundedness that would happen for me that I couldn’t actually define but I know exactly what it feels like. I would say today that I know much better how to access that, but at the time it was kinda like a bonus that would happen and something that maybe I would chase after but I didn’t know how to pull the alignment together, regularly at least.About the ShowWell, it's happened...a collision of the Thinking Pilates and Pilates Unfiltered voices! KABOOM!And it's so perfect because we didn't get all nerdy and geeky and heady. We didn't go down the rabbit hole we could've so easily gone down (SO easily). We didn't go into OVER thinking. Instead we went into FEELING. In this wonderful (and I think quite brilliant and critical conversation) we went straight for the heart. We went all SPIRIT. We went all PRESENCE. We went raw and vulnerable and all the way in to one of the areas of our work as Pilates teachers that sometimes feels tabu to talk explicitly about -- even though we give it plenty (PLENTY...P.L.E.N.T.Y -- yes, all of that is necessary for the appropriate emphasis) lip service. Not this time. Jenna Zaffino is one of our modern teachers who has unabashedly held space for and cultivated heart and spirit in her teaching and in her teaching of teachers. It's part of WHO she is and WHAT she does. She lives it. Breathes it. Shares it. So there really was no more perfect person with whom to THIS conversation. As we begin to bring Season 2 to a close, coming into a deeper place of groundedness and presence is exactly what we need. James and I are sure that this episode is going to touch you, inspire you, and make you sit quietly and wonder: what do I hold in the palm of my hand that FEELS like presence but cannot be seen?Listen. Breath deep. Close your eyes. Put your hand on your heart. Let wonder surface. Let curiosity arise. ...And BE.About JennaJenna is an expert Pilates teacher with over 18 years of experience in movement education. We are filled with honor and gratitude to bring you this special Thanksgiving Day episode with a special conversation with Jonathan Medros, the author of the web article, "Why Are So Many Pilates Teachers Out of Shape?" Because this is a sensitive subject for most, we believe that this is conversation is all the more important to have. Pilates Unfiltered is all about engaging in respectful and empathetic dialogue and this conversation is no different! Also, Jenna shares a follow up story to her Pregnant Pig encounter (this time it's a monkey), and also shares her latest 'project,' Sounds of the Studio.
Our very first episode dives into energy of Pilates Unfiltered, with an interesting introduction where we find out why Jenna is taking on this project. Our first and very special guest, Taylor Lamanna takes us on a Pilates journey that travels from Chicago to Lake Tahoe with plenty of inspirational "obstacles" along the way. AND our first rant is featured with a studio owner who is fed up with her new teacher's lack of accountability. It's a chalk-full episode of mind-opening sentiments and a great start to a fabulous season! This episode is generously sponsored by: Pilates Nerd
